Did find these at a TRU closing. $221.98 is not a bad price. Really surprised to see all of these at a store going out of business but when they are not selling any for the inflated price of $369.99 on their website, I guess its not surprising. What they need is new ownership or someone who has some common sense running the operation.6 points

I don't know what LEGO is doing with the special black card. I was banned from Shop at Home over a year ago and I'm not entirely sure why, but I won't go into those details here. Regardless I still get e-mails about promotions and catalogs in the mail asking me to buy stuff I can't. My VIP account and points still work in store only. I never ordered the UCS Falcon and I've only purchased sets from my local LEGO store about 3 times in the past year. Having said that I received the black card in the mail this week and I have no idea why.4 points

Edit: as a consolation, when scanned it looks like all LEGO is 10% off, at least in my store.4 points

Maybe you didn't hear me. They haven't made an Indiana Jones film since 1989.4 points

Spoke to a manager at a store closing and she said they were told all LEGO is going back and won’t be on sale unless it’s already on clearance. I also tried to buy the LEGO displays and she told me they were specifically told not to sell any of these and LEGO will be picking them up. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker Forum3 points

Here is a 6 month update for those that were curious. The ship has weathered quite nicely. The only thing I'm worried about is the sails, they look great now, but I don't know about long term. It has not been a maintenance nightmare, as a matter of fact, our cleaner fish and snails do an excellent job!! We get more comments on this display than any of our other displays....people love it!!! I'll post a one year update just for sh*ts and giggles.3 points

I would say for me there is a large element of nostalgia involved, for some reason LEGO is the ONE product that brings back the most vivid memories as a kid. It allows people of all ages to create practically ANYTHING. I also really admire the infrastructure they have created as a "building block" system. It is seemingly a perfect balance between minimalism and detail that has me loving everything they create. Couple that with popular themes / pop culture and you have a recipe that just works and drives a collector insane trying to fulfill their collection.2 points

Lucas was successful because he tapped into universal archetypes of mythology. There are various books and short films on the topic. http://www.starwars.com/news/mythic-discovery-within-the-inner-reaches-of-outer-space-joseph-campbell-meets-george-lucas-part-I I'm guessing Kennedy is saying B&B have demonstrated they can do that too, not that the new films will focus on mythology in the sense of old stories from Star Wars. Just my opin. Also, I would say that George Martin was the one who demonstrated he understands the power of Mythology, and B&B have merely shown that they can take insanely good source material and make it visually compelling. B&B without GRRM, who knows what the results might be?2 points

Makes sense, TLG (and certain others owed $ by TRU) may have some sort of agreement to recover their assets due to the bankruptcy proceedings. The LEGO brand is worth more than to cheapen it and allow TRU to liquidate.2 points

Received my ordered DB from Amazon UK yesterday. And thankfully in perfect condition! Sealcode was, if I remember correctly (not at home right now): 03S18. Funny thing is ... I had ordered it, received a shipping email from Amazon, then the next day an apology email came from Amazon stating something was wrong with the shipping and it got returned. A colleague who had ordered it as well had the exact same thing happen to him. But someone on a Dutch forum who had ordered it on the same day as me did receive his order last Saturday and complained the box looked like a truck had run over it, and he was contacting Amazon CS about it. Glad my resent shipment arrived without a scratch.2 points

I have 1 built and one for 45% our RRP, which is 185 euros! Ninjago is hard to sell here apart from one or two very specific sets so I am happy with that number for now. I agree that this set has been on horde radar since day one and it will make sense to wait until EOL and possible clearance before going deeper. That the Germans love Ninjago yet can´t have it sell out at 95 euros says a lot.1 point

Has anyone on here who buys sets for investment NOT bought into this one yet?1 point

If he didn’t relist as Lego , it might be an honest mistake and they took accountability for their actions and fixed it .1 point

Prices about to tumble if they have them in big quantities again. On Amazon some fun packs are 10 to 20 dollars now and team and certain level packs anywhere from 15 to 30. This will change all of that for a while. That and the dimension system going bye bye makes it a bit of a gamble this time IMO. With that said...in for 10k. Bring it. Semi serious.1 point

Just a quick shout out to the ebay sellers who miss a digit in their listings (6.95 instead of 69.95, etc) - yet still honor the deal (without questioning), while also packing well & shipping quickly.1 point

The black card worked wonders for me. I was in line at the local coffee shop and I reached in my wallet and picked up my LEGO card by mistake. A few young ladies saw me whip out a black card and instantly their interest me tripled. I could feel their gazes and hear them licking their lips at the thought. Then my thumb moved and they spotted the Millennium Falcon, and not the Mastercard logo. Not only did their interest drop, but it fell in half compared to the original interest level. My wife had quite the laugh.1 point

The Australian and New Zealand markets are the bane of LEGO's existence. Our proximity to their major distribution warehouses and the diversity of population, lack of physical or corporate presence here either through B&M stores or an Australian based call centre makes us a sitting target for inventory reduction. I believe, in line with their new stance of inventory management, AUS and NZ will see a lot more of an online only presence of the full range of stock that LEGO has to offer (as we seen with Red Creatures, etc). Our retiring soon will expand with not coming back to your local store again.1 point

Amazon hasn’t helped certainly, but it’s PE all the way down for TRU. And they’re not the only ones. https://wolfstreet.com/2018/01/22/the-private-equity-firms-at-the-core-of-brick-mortar-retail-bankruptcies/ Toys ‘R’ Us shows how this was done: PE firms KKR, Vornado Realty Trust, and Bain Capital Partners acquired the publicly traded shares of Toys ‘R’ Us in an LBO in 2005. In 2004, Toys R Us had $2.2 billion in cash and short-term investments. By Q1 2017, this had collapsed to just $301 million. Over the same period, long-term debt surged from $2.3 billion to $5.2 billion. In other words, “cash minus debt” was -$112 million in 2004. By 2017, it had ballooned to -$4.9 billion. While the PE firms were busy extracting cash, the company, cash-strapped and focused on cost-cutting, failed to create an online presence that could compete with Amazon and others, didn’t successfully make the transition to electronic devices, video games, and apps, and let its physical stores deteriorate. It should have spent the last decade investing heavily in its future. Instead, it was forced to borrow large amounts of money just to enrich its PE-firm owners.1 point
