  1. That's in honor of one of the very first police minifigs, from 1978's set 621. If you look at his hand, you can see him holding a copy of that set.

  3. Next stage complete for Lego / office / spare bedroom. 3 metres of Lego shelving will go on the left. I'm only allowed 40cm depth because of the narrow room. Got to accommodate work stations opposite as a digital art area for the Mrs. Shelving going in next week.

  5. The whole point of blind packaging is to have consumers spend more than they normally would to get what they want. If TLG wanted everyone to pick the ones they wanted they could have made them individually labeled foil packs with the character on the front. Sure, some people can feel what they need and it's easy for them, but the average person has no idea how to do this and they just buy them blindly.

  6. The ultimate troll I've decided on this set is giving it such a similar set number to the previous one. Thank you to whoever added a year number to this thread title.

  8. I think liar is a strong word, but I don't think she's being completely honest. Go back and look at the figures that are 5x in the series and tell me those are the ones you want most. There's a reason they are the stragglers when the box is about empty.

  10. Not investment worthy but still cool. This could mean we will get more anniversary sets. Some 80s space stuff would be phenomenal.

  12. Oh I also liked all the minifigures, have multiple graduate degrees from ivy league.... and regardless of their marketing intent... they can...

  13. I watched the video posted. You are free to disagree with me, but I'm calling bull on her stance that they make "perceived popular" figures more abundant.

  14. These are all absolutely brilliant. The nod to the very first Police set with the Officer is a nice touch, the brick couple is perfect, the birthday kids are adorable, the Balloon Artist Clown reminds me of the Mad Hatter character in general, Dragon Suit is awesome, and Cactus Girl is Cactaur from the Final Fantasy series more or less. Each series of Collectable Minifigures could always double as costumes for Halloween or themed parties and stores but it's interesting here to see deliberately designed costumed characters. And oh yeah, Brony Knight for the win!

  15. Thanks to "The_Collector" for helping me see the light with this forum and other sites to find deals. My main intent for now is to expand my personal collection since now that I can actually afford larger sets and feed my Lego addiction. As for possibly reselling, we'll see how things go. This site and others have opened my eyes to a whole new world. (cue Aladdin music)

  16. Yay, you went to MIT. I have plenty of math edumacation. Heck, I've even had to use it in real life to add some numbers a few times. Until these latest series, it's always been exactly 16 unique figures and 60 figures to a box. If they wanted it to be even, they could have just put 3 full sets in a box ... that's 3 x 16 = 48 for those who didn't go to MIT. Still would have made a nice shaped box with 3 rows of figures per box. They could have also been a little more even if they wanted a box of 60 for whatever strange reason. 12*4 + 4*3 = 60 (sorry, that math is a little more complicated, remember your order of operations https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_operations). So how long have you been collecting CMFs and following LEGO as a company?
    1 point
  17. But, if it just comes down to math, why not try to make it as even as possible. In a series with 16 figures, why not have 4-each of 12 figures, and 3-each of just four figures? Instead they do 5's, and even 6's. Maybe they're really trying to guess which figures will be most popular...but I'm thinking TLG is smarter than some of those "guesses" they've made.

  18. It became very obvious very early on that the costume characters were popular. Whilst the distribution has improved over the series and it could be that they load based on the production cost of the figs / molds. It's still obvious they don't distribute based on popularity. Take a look at the distribution photos over on Eurobricks.

  21. You can do an Ebay CS chat and discuss what to do. At least that way you have it on official record should they tell you to ship and it turns out to be a scam indeed. This will help you get your money back and any negative feedback retracted (no guarantee though).

  22. the receiving address looks like a freight-forwarder. you can check with Uncle Google to confirm. never had that situation myself, but its possible they have ebay bucks or coupons expiring soon that would prompt multiple accounts to order at the same time. Update: never mind. after rereading the thread, the 'hacked accounts' theory sounds more likely.

  25. I really like a lot of the anniversary stuff I've seen, but I think its mostly just a feeling of nostalgia. I imagine tons of these will be snatched up by collectors and re-sellers that the market will be too flooded to make anything on them.

  26. I wonder if the red and blue brick costumes will be interlocking. I am conflicted on all the new elements they are releasing. It's starting to feel less "LEGO-like" and more Mega blox.

  30. There are usually several indicators that show gender specific minifigs. Eyelashes for one of course. Sometimes there is extra make up like lipstick would typically be female. Facial hair like beard stubble would be considered male. Then there are times when the face is just a simple smiley face like the police officer which could be considered gender neutral and you can choose to do whatever you want with it. Even if those features weren't enough, there are hair, torso, and costume options that can relatively determine gender. Head piece is not the only factor. In the end, a minifigure is not male or female, it is a collection of pieces that presents a view of the creator's vision. What does the phrase "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts" mean? It means that there is such a connection among the individual items that it is better than what each one would be individually. This is known as synergy.

  38. Wow, really nice figs, except for the generic police officer

  39. Yeah, that makes a lot more sense. I contacted them offering them both options, paying incrementally OR just refunding and invoicing. In retrospect, I should've just done the refund right away. If I don't get a response in 24 hours of my contact, I'll automatically refund them.
    1 point
  40. Best practice is to refund the original payment, and have them repay in full, not try to pay the incremental amount separately. This avoids issues with NPB/NSS claims, and if for some reason you needed to claim seller protection reimbursement from PayPal, they would likely only pay one of the amounts.

  41. Finally got to put together 21018 UN Headquarters, which I picked up for £10 from a charity shop a few months back. Used, but the box was mint so had every chance - happily it is complete with no yellowing and absolutely mint! Not my thing generally, but it looks rather good ??

I'll post some progress photos over the next couple 2 or 3 weeks. Day one: batons, insulation and plasterboard.

  46. Stolen from EB, who stole it from the Brick Show: Here are descriptions/names for all 17 of the coming LEGO Series 18 minifigures. One cool thing to mention, all of these come on an orange baseplate, not black as they typically do. Red Suit Brick Guy – in a red 4×2 brick, holding a blue 1×1. Police Officer – old LEGO style, exactly like the one in LEGO set 600. He’s holding a printed 1×2 tile picturing LEGO set 600. Elephant Suit Girl – female wearing elephant suit, with a pink tutu and holding a mouse. Rocket/Firework Guy – male wearing a rocket/firework that is blue, top of firework is red and his pants are dark grey. Star/explosion printing all over in yellow. Red Dragon Suit Guy – cool looking red dragon suit with black spikes on his tail and horns. Red wings attach to the back. Your going to love the head mold, the dragon looks tough. Birthday Cake Guy – guy in a birthday cake wearing a light blue suit, gold hat and bow-tie. Pink icing splattered print on his torso. No legs, all cake. Race Car Guy – guy wearing a blue and white racers outfit as a molded red race car is attached between his torso and legs. Pretty cool look. Race car has a white fin and some printing on it. Flower Girl – girl dressed as a dark pink flower. New mold that fits over her head with face coming through the middle of the flower. Green torso to match coloring of the stem. No legs, she attaches to a clay flower pot. Blue Brick Girl – in a blue 4×2 brick, holding a red 1×1. Blue Unicorn Knight – male dressed as a blue unicorn. lol. Comes holding a gold sword and a white shield with a white unicorn printed on it. Orange Balloon LEGO Fan Boy – not a costume at all. Boy with short legs, green glasses. His torso is white but printed with light blue minifigure heads and a multi-color tie. He comes with an orange balloon and 2 LEGO Series 1 minifigure pack printed 1×1 tiles. Also comes with a printed birthday present. This one is going to be easy to feel for with all these accessories. He is wearing shorts using a multi-tone colored legs. Spider Suit Guy – could actually be female, can’t tell. All black suite with white spider web printing on torso.Head mold has 4 molded and printed spider eyes on top of head. Also two fangs colored dark grey molded into head piece. Comes holding a black spider and an eight-legged mold attaches to back of figure. Purple Balloon Girl – the compliment to the Orange Balloon LEGO Fan Boy. However, this girl doesn’t like LEGO. Here torso printing is just multi-color square on a white shirt. She is wearing light blue shorts using a multi-tone colored legs. Wearing a purple birthday hat. Accessories are a purple balloon, donut, cookie and a birthday gift. Cactus Girl – girl wearing a new molded cactus piece. The arms on the torso are also new, as they look like an extension to the cactus with no hands. Green legs. Cowboy Suit Guy – Cowboy with white hat. A horse attaches between his legs and torso so it looks like he is riding on a horse. Horse mold does no carry through to the back. Brown legs. Balloon Artist Clown – Fun clown! Wearing a light green top-hat with a purple flower printed on it. Orange and purple torso printed vest. Orange coattails attach to his legs and carry about an inch off of him in the back. Red bow-tie attaches to his neck. Light green legs to match his top-hat. The best part is he comes holding balloons that he has twisted into dogs. Cat Suit Guy/Girl – I cannot tell if this is male or female. Looks almost exactly like Slyvester the Cat. Comes holding a blue fish.
