1x 41095 Emma's House, for €60. Buy-in was €25 which was a really really lucky find back then and in hindsight I wish I had bought more then. A general store that would go bankrupt just a few months later had a "2 for 1" offer, and on top of that also €10 off when purchasing above €50. Emma's House was priced at €60 (from €75 RRP). So 2 for €60 minus €10 became 2 for €50, or €25 each. Even though two years after retirement there's still not a big demand for this set, and sold prices are still below RRP, at such a hefty discount it's just easy money as long as you have some patience. Will always remember that deal fondly, and my lesson learned was: if the deal is really really good, do an armsweep and get as many as you can!3 points

1x 60083 Snowplow Truck Amazon FBA for $53. This was my first buy for "investing" two years ago. I'd been reading the forums for awhile and I thought it was a cool set, and I remember seeing @exciter1 (who, after my reading, appeared to basically be a LEGO deity) post about it being available at Toys R US, so I took the plunge. It was also my first ill advised purchase as I got it for a total of about $18.50 with taxes. I bought a couple more for cheaper not long after, and then fellow BPers bought a lot more for a lot cheaper after that. I realized I didn't know as much as I thought, and learned a great lesson in the process. Thanks for the all you taught me Snowplow Truck, may you enjoy your new home...2 points

Honestly, that's an issue if people are making uninformed purchases and going deep. I would do some more research on the sets you have, keep some that have the best chance of being profitable, and return the rest. It's humbling to do that, and it may make you more cautious as a buyer in the future.2 points

To be 100% Transparent, all said and done for the 30 with cost, currency exchange on credit card and shipping to US I am in these at roughly $10 each. It seems padded envelope, USPS First Class 1-3 ounces through paypal is $2.61. I have padded envelopes (amazon leftovers) so no cost. I would like to make a trivial amount for time and effort. With paypal as goods and services (with fees) at $15.36 shipped to you, I would make $2 after fees. If you paypal as friend/family the cost would be $14.61, again I would make $2 For now I will sell 20 of these. I think it would be easy if you message me and I can reply with my email to send paypal, unless you have other thoughts Thanks 1-exciter1 2-stackables 3-fleck 4-Alpinemaps 5-Huskers1236 6-Thanos75 7-B1ueseven 8-Rubysue74 9-Mr coat 10-Phil b 11-Legowalker 4 12-Thelovemachine 13-Thecollector 14-sharkbait 15-pstebbing? 16-Legoedison2 points

I've had BB8 built for a while now, but i finally finished up "rounding" or "anti-studding" him to better match my rounded dome R2. Didn't turn out as well as R2, but still happy with it. Mostly involved adding small tiles everywhere, but in some cases i did need to take the panels off and modify them a bit to hide some of the bigger studded pieces.2 points

If I am seeing correctly you have a White House in there. Those will sell fast if can list with amazon. Even on eBay should do fine. The brickheads in my opinion are garbage. Great gifts but I personally want nothing to do with them. I have bought many many sets over the years and have only lost on a few. The problem you have is time. If paid cash no big deal but since you do the credit card (unless paying it off right away) you are eating big into your profits. Figure out which sets you can sell ASAP and get some return and return the rest. Trust me there will will be many sets that go on sale and tons of winners ahead. You don’t need to jump all in with a hope and a prayer it works.2 points

To answer your questions about the LEGO Batman movie sets: some of the sets aren't bad, but there are just so many of them out there, at such a high discount. Interest in the movie is waning, yet LEGO continues to churn out new sets. All the while they keep churning out new Super Heroes sets in other lines. How many Batmans does a kid need? Once these retire, people will be sitting on large quantities of all of these sets, and what will the demand be? Will the kids of America suddenly NEED the Killer Croc Sewer Smash at a higher price when they can probably get Killer Croc elsewhere? Will adults NEED to complete their own collections of LEGO Batman movie sets? You've got a lot of outstanding advice so far, more so than a lot of new "pickers" usually get. Most everything I would say has been said. My best advice is to just have fun. I've been at it for 2 years now, so I can't comment on the "good ol' days", but with an established Bricklink store and an FBA account I make a good return, add to my own collection, and mostly importantly, I've been enjoying myself. Don't use money you can't afford to lose (or credit you can't afford to pay back). A lot of the FBA folks talk about what it would be like to get booted off of Amazon one day, but what isn't often discussed is the overall impact on the secondary market. If or when Amazon takes action against 3P sellers of LEGO on Amazon, it would damage the entire secondary market as all of those players (big and small) return to the other places like eBay to get rid of their stock. No reason to expect it, but the secondary market could in theory crash at any time. Until you are seeing reliable returns from your planned style of business, I would echo the advice of being very careful with what you buy and how much you spend (and certainly credit you use). Oh, and if you want to rely on the local markets like Fbook and Craigslist, you want to start figuring out your market quickly. Some folks have strong demand on local markets; others have very little demand. I've put some sets on Offerup here in my urban area at below market value, and my only interest over months came from what I think was probably a competitor checking in from time to time feigning interest to see if I had in fact ever managed to sell my sets...1 point

Just recommendation: Don't think investing in Lego will give you a fortune. You have to sell them to get the money and profit back. For most of us, it can be only like a hobby, it can't replace your job. It at most gives you extra cash to dine out some place nice. I have sold 700 sets but still have 1300 sets in inventory but I have stopped buying more. Yes, it is still reasonable return but it has declined since three years ago. Sometimes, I still have the urge of buying more "appear-to-be-profitable in the future" sets but I have killed my desire again and again not buying any because I don't know it worths my time anymore. I am kind of surprised that there are still lots of newcomers wanting to dive in collecting/investing in Lego. Is it some sort of fashion?1 point

I finally built one of these. It cost me about $50, which I'm not entirely convinced was the right amount to spend on it. I kind of liked the overall construction. The Rathtars were a little cubey for my tastes, but once you have them lurking in doorways, they look ok. (Mainly because most of the body is hidden. Bala Tik and the Deathgang are nice to have. I like that you could potentially throw a few more sets together to make one enormous corridor. It's got a very modular setup allowing you to make your own custom play area. The hardest parts of the Rathtars to get would probably be the whips if you wanted to make more of your own. I've got another one of these sets sitting around and if I get bored enough someday, I might wind up with a big corridor. It's too bad that they put Han and Chewie in this set, only because it leaves the only unique characters in the Falcon Tasu Leech and the Kanjiklub guy. Speaking of, I kind of wish there were more Kanjiklub gang members (Those freaks?) I'm afraid that if anyone invested their money in these sets they'd have a hard time recouping the money. Just too expensive for a set that basically looks like nothing that was in the movie. open sides and narrow pathways makes it look more like a bridge than the inside of a ship. It's going to be hard to make anything on this investment. (Kanjiklub also wants their investment back.) Looking at them now I really do like the Guavian Death Gang minifigures. even though their masks remind me a great deal of an evil Target. What I really don't understand about this set is why a set that retailed for $79.99 gave almost every character a stud shooting weapon. Only Han gets a real blaster, Maybe it's because it is a playset instead of a vehicle or something collector oriented, but even kids have to know that stud shooters are dumb. (Tell that to Kanjiklub.)1 point

I second this. A great strategy to get started is to go with used retired sets. Listings appear daily where someone is just quickly unloading their collection, or someone's kid is done with Lego and the parent just dumps it. I haven't bought too many used lots this year since the baby was born (no time to sort and build), but I would pick something like this up 3-5 times a week in the years before. It was by far my highest profit and lowest risk. Plus you got to enjoy the building experience. The few examples from this year: Contained a complete (remainder of parts in the basket) 75054 (AT-AT), 75050 (B-Wing), 75092 (Naboo SF), 75105 (MF), and 75094 (IST) ^^ Contained: (3x) 7595-1 Army Men on Patrol, 7667-1 Imperial Dropship, 7668-1 Rebel Scout Speeder, 7676-1 Republic Attack Gunship, 7751-1 Ahsoka's Starfighter and Droids, 7914-1 Mandalorian Battle Pack, (2x) 8014-1 Clone Walker Battle Pack, 8018-1 Armored Assault Tank (AAT), 8083-1 Rebel Trooper Battle Pack, 8084-1 Snowtrooper Battle Pack, 9488-1 Elite Clone Trooper & Commando Droid Battle Pack, (10x) 30071 Army Jeep _________________ Another highlight for $125 shipped: 6212 X-Wing Starfighter, 8128 Cad Bane Speeder, 75084 Wookie Gunship, 7930 Bounty Hunter Gunship, 75145 Eclipse Fighter, 75024 HH-87, 75091 Flash Speeder, 75167 Bounty Hunter Speeder Bike Battle Pack, 7914 Mandalorian Battle Pack, 75131 Resistance Trooper Battle Pack, 75133 Rebel Alliance Battle Pack, 75164 Rebel Trooper battle Pack, 7957 Sith Nightspeeder, 75022 Mandalorian Speeder, 7965 Millennium Falcon, 8016 Hyena Droid Bomber, 9498 Saesee Tiin Starfighter, 8085 Freeco Speeder, 75180 Rathtar Escape, 75148 Encounter on Jakku If I had more time I would go back to doing most of my business with buying bulk retired used sets, separating, and flipping them. You can make a good surplus this way to save up to start clearing shelves off without going into debt.1 point

The advice always given is to start small, practice selling, and then decide how to proceed. I got my start 2+ years ago flipping Jurassic World before Christmas 2015. I learned about shipping, selling on ebay, and started buying in the post-holiday Walmart sale. Some have done well and I've sold through (Ghost, Phantom, B-Wing), while my AT-DPs don't even move on Amazon. It's easy to get caught up in the buying frenzy you see on here, but you will learn there is some new clearance sale on sets you like every few weeks. Other than a few rare instances of pricing errors, you won't be missing much. Here is one opinion, but there are many: Keep the X-Wing/Kylo Shuttle (if bought 50% off or better) and try to sell this year once stock dries up at retailers and prices start climbing. Keep the Elves and HL Riding Club. Sell the White House now. Everything else goes back except: keep a few things you got for 75% off and try to part out the vehicle/figs. You need ebay feedback and practice. Also, open a BL store and practice selling there. This is low-profit/time consuming, but you need to figure out if you like doing this and if you can find a niche that you enjoy. But don't keep anything that has to stay on a credit card. Credit isn't evil, but it is a profit-killer in your stage of the game. Also, don't try to learn about every theme at once. Pick a few you like or think will do well, and start tracking them. Look at previous sets and how they performed. I still don't even watch every theme and rely on others to help me pick sets in areas of Lego I don't understand (looking at you, Technic and Minecraft). Good luck and most importantly, have fun! Edit: Oh, and find someone in your area who has more money than time. I'm sure they would pay you to buy up extra sets while you go hunting for the sets you want. I did it and still do for bigger fish in my area sometimes. And I have other people who do it for me. We help each other out here1 point

Just because it is cheap, doenst mean its a good investment, buying on credit without the cash is a sure way to financial ruin. This applies to most bad debt. I did that early on as well and returned everything to Wal-Mart 5 to y years ago. Since then, my average realized return is 105% net. So this game works but requires due diligence like any investment approach.1 point
