There was a useful post that I thought had been stickied but obviously not that explains all the Lego stock labels and how a set does the dance before retirement. Which is what this set is doing. However this kind of stuff should be kept to retiring soon speculation thread this one is literally for when a set is marked retired on LEGO Shop at Home2 points

Amazon has been awful this year. Several items packed with too much paper stuffed on topped, causing crushing to sets. Also, what is with all the stickers now? Almost every set has had some type of sticker, either on the bottom or side. They have even sent me sets that appear to have been returned after someone horribly removed a sticker, peeling the packaging.1 point

30% off stickers on Star Wars sets and Star Wars toys specify only 10% but I didn't take them to a register to confirm. There was another set of discounts that also seemed to be only 10%. And some full price sets, like the Old Fishing Store, didn't trigger the bonus membership discount. Brickheadz did get the double discount.1 point

115 USD on Assmazon and only the 3 sellers. That´s an easy 7.5 times RRP in a year. Something we are unlikely to see repeated. Meanwhile, in Europe you can only find it at Amazon.de for 100 euros. If someone has told me one year ago that a Bionicle and an Elves set were going to be the best performers of the year, I´d have laughed long and hard.1 point

Thanks for the heads up on this. Picked up some Duplo, Creator, and Elves for gifts. I was too slow to get some of the better Elves sets, but at least I came out with something.1 point

Or Walt Disney Only from a certain point of view. If you watch them in order (starting with Episode 1), you don't know that. You haven't seen the OT. You've just seen Obi-Wan take Anakin out to within an inch of his life. You see Anakin defeated, as he believes he has killed Padme. You see the "new hope" in Luke and Leia, being hidden from the Empire.1 point
-
Hey now, that's the plot of any trilogy. Or any movie, really. The good guys are always at their lowest at the end of Act 2, so they can overcome adversity and win in Act 3.1 point
-
I think you're walking too deep into the weeds, Jeff. You're arguing sub-points on sub-points without everybody understanding your broader position. Let me try to sum up your stance: OT was great all-around cinema. PT was conceptually great but poorly executed. TFA was conceptually un-original (but in my own words: pretty well executed). Most look at it from a cinematic perspective so OT > TFA >>>> PT. But you appreciate that Lucas aimed for Mars (despite his rocket exploding before it even left the atmosphere) whereas it disappointed you that Disney was content to return to the moon, so OT > PT > TFA. It's not an outrageous position like people are suggesting. Had Lucas been able to recruit other directors successfully (he tried) then I do think that the PT (same outline and all) could've been awesome (and better than TFA) for the reasons you've outlined.1 point
-
You have misread most of my post which makes me wonder how much you failed to understand about the movies. I am not saying the PT is better overall. I am saying it does some things better. I still prefer the OT but my enjoyment is not a blind cult-like obedience that requires me to hate everything that is the PT. I have serious problems with the PT but nothing that makes me think they are garbage or should not have been made. It's hard to take you seriously with your spewing hate and use of words like abortion. Criticizing the PT for clunky dialogue is pretty hypocritical given that the OT is notorious for it. It was all written by the same person. It was Harrison Ford who told Lucas on set "You can write this stuff but you can't say it". That's one reason why Alec Guinness thought the OT was rubbish and told a child to stop watching it. TFA copies the adventure from A New Hope. To paraphrase Princess Leia, if remakes are all you care about it, then that's what you'll receive. Disney will be only to happy to take your money and sell you the exaxt same thing again and again. Aim higher. It's more satisfying.1 point

Nothing ridiculous about it as it's true. I think you are viewing the old movies through very lived in rose coloured glasses. How am I forgetting Endor, Hoth and Dagobah when I mentioned them in my comment? What looked "lived-in" in a forest, frozen wasteland, and swamp? The Naboo swamps, the Mygeeto frozen wastes, and the Geonosis caverns looked just as lived in. We see very few living areas at all in the OT. Just a few places on Tattooine and the Falcon in the first movie, 3 rooms on Hoth, a Dagobah hut, and the very fake looking Cloud City in the second, and Jabba's Palace in the third. When you watch the OT the cheap FX are quite transparent. You could do a drinking game based on the bad matte paintings used in them. The prequels used more models, miniatures, etc. then the OT. It's a fact. You are going through confirmation bias where a few obvious CGI effects in the prequels colour your entire memory of the movies. I felt a lot was fake about Force Awakens. You should read some of the conversations with the FX people and how they used CGI all over the place. Starkiller base in particular never looked "real". It's more a matter of the CGI has gotten so much better in the last 10 years, similar to how CGI vastly improved on the old matte paintings. I assure you, there is CGI in literally every frame of Force Awakens. "Limited budget"? Star Wars cost $11 million to make, which was an exorbitant amount in 1977 and the cost was why it kept getting turned down by so many studios. FX alone made up more than 1/3 of the budget, more if you count set construction. http://io9.gizmodo.com/5875998/behold-the-1977-budget-breakdown-for-star-wars Them's the facts folks. That 40 year old movie stood the test of time because of how novel it was. Even then, most people rank it as at best the 2nd best Star Wars movie, with most people preferring Empire and a lot even preferring Revenge of the Sith over the original, and that was a CGI orgy-fest.1 point
