while i agree with your sentiment, i have since learned that sometimes it is better to sell at 10$ less and use the proceeds to make 50$ more on another item than to wait and recoup $20 on the original item . it is really a complicated scenario and no answer is totally right or wrong.4 points

you forgot about additional storage fees which specifically increase around the holiday season. amazon doesn't let your park stuff in their warehouse for free. coming up with a selling price is multifactorial equation which includes buyin that you can never fully know what your competition buyin was , understanding that the sales volume is here now and that you could sell 10x your sales volume if you are able to compete on price, not when your price gets here and that after the holiday season, most overstocked sets on amazon take a price hit even further than what they are going for now when there is drop in sales volume/demand that won't recover until tax refund season and people need to move inventory so they don't lose profit to storage fees as well as have cash on hand for after holiday clearance. 86 sellers on raptor rampage - that equals too much price competition. still the price has risen 20-25% in the last 3 months because of great demand. 106 sellers on 75094 - too much competition to expect any price increase. seller count was in the low 90s back in september. look at juniors police helicopter chase - a set that was clearanced for $5 back in may at walmart.com 50% off msrp - i posted it in daily deals. now only 8 7 sellers (dropped as i wrote this) under the main listing on FBA. i can't keep them in stock - they sell instantly for buybox which is $29.99. 6x my buyin with so few sellers of a set that has a high sales rank, then you can set your price and sit back. not so much with more than 6 dozen or over a hundred sellers with a relatively lower sales rank set. there you have to compete on price to make a sale. the price on this set literally rose by $10 while i was editing this - now only fba seller is $39.88. time to send some more in.4 points

I saw few sellers from Zgorzelec/Gorlitz (border City between Czech, Germany and Poland) with ridiculous large quantities available, highly likely they get their sets from Kladno as well as WH in Germany. I Know "Kladno capabilities" .. trust me, its virtually just next door. Its impossible that they would get it somehow "officially" (i mean truck loads). Each employee is awarded among other incentives a certain (limited) discount that entitles him to buy .. umm. let say 10-20 average sets (1000-2000 pcs) per year at half a price. You cant steal anything from the factory - not even a single brick that fell on a floor hardly an entire box.. so they have to have their source elsewhere.. I have come across truly disturbing facts that while the ppl in the Kladno factory itself are guarded like prisoners (more or less), the 3rd party Logistics partner with warehouse in other part of "greater Prague" obviously not.. and that might be where they could be getting their loot from.. I mean.. if an avg employee buys something at 50 % of local RRP, he certainly doesnt sell it to you at the same price - where would be the profit? now these Logistics ppl.. if they are willing to sell the same set for 35 % of the local RRP.. I think everybody comes to the specific and exact explanation how did they land their hands onto it..2 points

Amazon Selling Accounts comes with price matching. (It sucks sometimes and doesn't do its job, but for the most part it is good.) Pricing > Automate Pricing1 point

Prices on select current items tend to spike around now due to Amazon coming in and out of stock, but for most retired or retiring sets, prices hold just about as strong after Xmas as before.... sometimes even better. As a small seller, I tend to use Xmas for quick flip opportunities, and to unload current items that I regret buying. I wait to sell retired stuff til after Xmas... A lot of kids got Xmas money to spend.1 point

Let me clarify, I'm assuming the person purchased the 75192 set from SAH or Lego Store. What I'm saying is having the physcial card doesn't unlock anything that your VIP number wouldn't.1 point

I learned that lesson with the gingerbread house. It was at around $200 when I mentioned it, then it dropped to 150 within the week and now it's down to 70-80 on eBay.1 point

Amazon sales rank first week of December 2017, = 161,280. Am I reading that right? To be expected? Is that a daily sales rank? or average1 point

True. But the cost of getting that giant robot is high. He'll need to have 1000 sets of these to recoup the cost and maintenance fees of his robot. " Not joking at all. Let me clarify... By "buy-in" I mean costs associated with acquiring the sets including car/van costs along with parking and even the large 390g bar of Galaxy that always seems to fall into the basket at Tesco! Of course, I combine most pick-ups with another trip for a different purpose. " You need to factor in your own labor cost too. If you are not making more than $20/hr on this, I suggest you better go to McDonald's and flip some patties. This isn't surprising, my TRU and lego store have tonnes of these. This set is ready to collect some dust.1 point

I think Lego's plan was to retire these earlier but reasonable sales has kept them going as stocking fillers. Some have been tagged as retiring since mid-summer. The cheapest I've ever seen these is 3 for 2 at RRP. Some models (e.g. Sparrow) have not been as widely available. Also they have thinned out in supermarkets near me, which is promising. Ebay sold prices are around RRP but Hulk, Robin, Joker and Sparrow are above RRP. We don't know how much stock Lego has and whether they will flush it away to one of the big retailers in January. If we avoid £5 clearance sales, they will do very well.1 point

Well they are hardly likely to say they have 20.000 in the warehouse, are they? Working hard for their Xmas bonuses.1 point

Option 2 would be highly unlikely given the 100% perfection that is the SAH website. Only the best is good enough - and if not, it´s also good enough.1 point

FWIW, I ordered both the Train Ride and the Town Square to build/display with my kids, and they absolutely LOVE the train to play with. The spouse likes the snowman in the other set however. So perhaps Town Square has more "Adult" appeal, and Train Ride has more "kids" appeal.1 point

All European countries share the same shop/inventory, only the pricing is different per shipping destination. A set retired in the UK will be retired in Hungary as well.1 point

I'm working on the "2018" edition of this thread. I'm going to keep it "clean" - no discussion, just posts stating that a product is retired. This is what I believe we need for a post: Set Name, Date Retired, Region retired, and screenshot of the set name with "Retired Product" Sound good? Anything else? I'll take care of having an index thread stickied at the top, with links to the posts and links to the discussion threads for each set.1 point

Not that many would care but... Whoever will put "retired" and a picture for one EU or NA LEGO Shop at Home that I do not remember seeing before will get a "Thanks" medal from me1 point
-
Folks, calm down. You are getting your statuses all wrong: - Normal product, "Sold Out" -> means there is no confirmed backorder date (yet) - Normal product, "Backordered" -> means a new shipment has been planned, the reported date is when it's supposed to arrive - "Retiring soon", "Call to Check" -> part of the dance - "Retiring soon", "Sold Out" -> Almost done dancing - "Retiring soon", "Retired Product" (EU version) -> Likely retired, unless we find some more in the back or Tabby sends back a shipload, in which case it goes back to "Available" - "Retiring soon", "Retired Product" (US version) -> Done.1 point

Yeah, EOL Architecture sets usually take a long time to sell out at B&N. I just can't remember a set that was EOL that had such crazy volumes available from 3p sellers.1 point
