To lighten the mood, here is a finished picture of mine. To get the colors of the engine plume correct, the four outside engines use a trans-orange plate while the center engine uses a trans-light blue plate. This was achieved using Brickstuff pico LED lighting system (http://www.brickstuff.com - cannot recommend enough. A little pricey, but great to work with and the end result is fantastic). 5x pico LED's, some adapter boards, an IR Lighting Effect Controller, and a small battery pack. The four outer engines (orange) have a flicker effect, the center engine (blue) is solid on. To get a clean install, I cheated a bit and used a 7/8" drill to go through the 'stud stack' so that the wire would be routed on the inside.31 points

Just wanted to share some pictures of my finished UCS Tie Fighter. Lighting by Brickstuff pico LEDs. The laser cannons are on an 'pulse fire' mode in the Lighting Effects Controller while the engines are on a 'Flicker' mode. Mounted on the wall using a TV mount and a bent L-bracket. This inserts into the bottom side of the model and gives it the angle of attack.8 points

I got excited seeing the $25 gift card offer for $100 purchase coupon in my inbox today. Then I remembered that TRUTH will not work on LEGO. Then I read the coupon's fine print and saw that LEGO was excluded. Then I decided I would do something else on my lunch break today.6 points

You came on very strong in your post about how you couldn't believe that people got excited about double-VIP (with no qualifiers). You then proceeded to say that you get all your sets from factory workers who get theirs for 50% off, in a manner that made it sound like this was something available to everyone (instead of only local to people close to a LEGO plant). You even illustrated this with the Silent Mary, which was listed for 35% off on a local marketplace. Then, a mere minutes later, you called out one of the other members here on their statement that they sold hundreds of Saturn Vs, going as far as calling them a liar. There are better ways to make the, otherwise valid, point that for set with general availability there are better discounts to be had than double-VIP.5 points

imho I disagree. I don't think you can come into a forum trashing/challenging people and bragging about yourself. Who makes introductions like that, whether it's in a forum or in real-life. We all have a main common goal here, but we all have different objectives, look to get different things out of BPing and are also in various parts of the world where the market is different in each. To ignore any of those things and to make generalizations is just ignorant. There is a ton to be learned in anything, and a little modesty can go a long way. Just like you said, "instead of questioning, should have befriended"3 points

I do believe that someone with very little prior involvement on this site could display a bit more modesty in their posts. Call me old-fashioned ....3 points

A few things... 1. I can vouch for her selling hundreds. 2. The days of everybody dropping their jaw over Emazers buying 25-30 sets is so 2015. 3. If you can't stack 100 of a set at one time it's because you have Low-T. 4. Instead of questioning her you should've befriended her and learned from her. Too late now. It really isn't difficult getting Saturn V's I had 71 before the release date. Wan't to know how many Women of NASA sets I already have? Shhhh! It's a secret.3 points

that used to be the case. Pretty much every single promo or freebie has been cross sold down the road. Holding promos is pretty risky these days especially in volume. Like I said above this one is a bit different with the VIP badging but it could be sold directly through LEGO down the road. VW Beetle avoided it so far but London Bus did not. Just the potential of them coming back out has also kept values lower as more people do not want to hold. Kiss Kiss Batman is a great example. Probably the hardest one to get for a long time with very limited availability and then boom 75,000 of them available at Target. Point is nothing is as special as it used to be with LEGO.2 points

Couldn't agree more... starting to get annoyed with retailers non sale sales... they jack the prices up to the extent that its no longer a good deal. Had stuff in my basket for a couple of weeks and every time I have checked again the prices have been creeping up. Only good deals I have seen recently mean you have to be in store when they clearance stuff because if you aren't, someone else will arm sweep the lot and poof it's gone... getting tired of seeing empty rows of clearanced sets... not tired really... just envious2 points

Promos are an excellent example of a typical market with supply/demand and pricing. When they're new, like right now, there's high supply and sellers keep trying to undercut eachother to move it fast for their $20 (198 sellers on BL worldwide, 470 quantity as of this post time, 10/26/17). Not to mention the actual supply from Lego, so many people that wanted one... just got it as a promo from lego. The real market for these are people that missed them, so 6+ months down the line. Avg sold is $25, a few listings for sub $20 at the moment, many in low 20's, avg list price is $29, though some do move at that list price If you don't care about moving this asap you can probably get more for it if you wait some months or a year. Freebies generally sell for more once supply goes down, as one might expect. Right now is highest competition. This is a great promo imo - large in size, 2 figures (an official monochrome), mini lego set stickers are very desirable, white tiles2 points

This beast would struggle on UK roads but plays a part in a bucket list must do of mine... get a massive RV/Camper and tour the States... And No... I'm not a singer, performer or have any apparent talent haha... Just love the idea of Doing the States this way. Until that happens this set will have to do I see so much negativity about a lot of sets and reading some of these forums genuinely started to bring me right down... it's nice to actually not only enjoy a set myself, but see some positivity from others2 points

These 2. Well... the Ferrari was actually built 2 weeks ago, but three pieces were "missing", in the sense that they were either the wrong color, or replaced by another piece of (I guess) approximately the same weight. New box, bought online from Lego with double VIP. It's been a while since I encountered a sealed box with missing parts. The replacements arrived yesterday, so finally I could finish it. Looks better in real life than on pictures. Too bad of the visible blue technic pins. Have to have a look at that sometime. And then there is Rey's speeder that I actually fixed a bit (IMNSHO). I don't fancy stud shooters, the front grille looked too square to me, and there were too many studs on top. So I experimented a bit.2 points

I'm rather hesitant with the Creator 3 in 1 sets. While I myself am very positive about the Changing Seasons house it's hardly doing anything post retirement. So I fully agree with @TabbyBoy that these sets are worth it only at deep discount.2 points

interesting approach, to call out someone as a liar, just because it's incomprehensible to you. "you've shipped out hundreds of sets that have been out for almost 6 months, therefore you must have a crew or team", you're kidding right? oh yea, I forgot, you're the Mr. "Close to the Source" Guy who gets all his sets at 50% off, and called everyone else out on the forum a moron for wanting to take advantage of Double-VIP. "Close to the Source" Guy who has a whole 3 Snowspeeders at 30%+ off, please. I am 100% with you. been biting my tongue for a while but, I couldn't resist piling on.2 points

True, but on the other side of the coin you would think that people with hundreds or thousands of posts would also be more welcoming to people with little prior involvement on this site. That's why I took a two year break from posting on here.2 points

Although it does become effective for the sets we can't buy in superstores. For example in the UK, John Lewis exclusives (caterham, saturn v and winter sets) are worth getting with double/triple VIP because JL rarely discount these sets at all.1 point

You could buy whatever you wanted weeks before release on Walmart and they did all ship. Plus numerous times on target after they released. So yes you could have sold hundreds just from those 2 sources alone. Packing and shipping is the easy part.1 point

Hi.. the local price on CZE (Czech market) according to official LEGO shop-at-home website is 3299 CZK (approx 126 EUR). taking into account that there are roughly 3.000 employees in the local plant and those people ARE BY THE LEGO rules entitled to purchase / buy in local factory stores sets in amount equal to retail price of 3.5 MIL EUR.. go figure.. Im personally totally sure that the plant management SIMPLY HAS TO BE AWARE of this practice (therefore there are some limits as to what an employee can buy with discount).. but still.. 3.5 mil EUR per year??!!! Im not saying this gets totally "OFF" from the plant, but everybode "sane enough" inside is dealing with that on a secondary market.. and to answer your question.. I got 3 with 35 % off each.1 point

honestly.. such a thought never crossed my mind. and I understand your frustration.. for me.. (personally) is very frustrating to decipher WHY some (totally ridiculous) sets in official LEGO e-shop at the retiring moment get 33 % off.. and some 50 %.. and - based on the theme, piece count, BP / BS reviews - it has nothing to do with the "potential" or "popularity".. its very random and kind of feels like TLG is "testing the ground" - what they can sell for what price..1 point

No easy to see option to enable more than 25 sets per page Filter options sometimes get stuck / hidden and require cache resets or page reloads (if you inspect elements you can see where it messes up sometimes) Sometimes if you click buttons or pages your URL will change but not load the page (requires reload) Side filters automatically search on check/uncheck which causes page reloads automatically (bad) Sometimes pages get "stuck" when you hit next page, brings you to top of the page, but not the next 25 sets (have to clear all filters again) Edit: misleading flags for when things are TOOs too! I'mma add that. I was just a victim. I prefer simpler UI's - the trend nowadays seems to bloat UI to make it look fancy, but lacks some intuition and actual dependability. Lego is a great example of bloaty UI that looks fancy but sucks to use. I could go on and on, and this isn't even about bricks and pieces... but then again I'm a programmer so I'm hypercritical of technology. It should just be better for an established legacy company.1 point

My sixteen Saturn V's that I ordered from Target yesterday afternoon have all shipped. I was skeptical since they had a high order limit but were only in stock for about twenty minutes. Was expecting a cancellation.1 point

I finally sold off the very first sets I purchased when I started this Lego investing thing 4 years ago, back when I had no idea what I was doing (well, I still don't lol): 2 Star Wars planet sets - $13 ea (paid $11.64 ea, but used a gift card I won, so free I guess?)1 point

Ha, I honestly feel a little bad about it, because I'm not one who's "Bailing because the Lego world is ending", its just that this hobby got WAY too big for me and my life. I don't need the money now or anything, but I don't want to miss anymore family time staying up late packing 20 items in the middle of the night after working 10-12 hour days. That part I don't care for anymore, but I do have faith that this is still a worthwhile hobby that can help offset the cost of Lego as a collection. I'd rather pass the savings off to another BP'r, pay it forward and let them reap the ROI in a year or three. Or help someone complete their collection at a much better than Amazon or Ebay price. win/win. Oh and I have thousands of 100% feedback on ebay over many years of selling if anyone wants references.1 point

My wife bought a bag of Lego for $10 that has 75048 The Phantom and 75050 B-Wing, both of which seem to be complete and I can see some of the minifigs. I will investigate further as time allows and my cold gets better. The minifig with the yellow torso and purple head does not seem to go with either set. I would appreciate thoughts on what it may be. My wife may be a better Lego investor than I am because she scored an open box 6866 Wolverine’s Chopper Showdown with sealed bags set for $6 at a sale and a 76039 Ant-Man Final Battle set at Target for under $15, both back in 2015. The Wolverine’s Chopper Showdown was the set that actually started our small-time investments. We quickly learned it is not that easy and we happened two find two awesome sets. ? My best finds have been the 60059 Logging Truck ($15) and 7893 Passenger Plane ($65), both sealed sets.1 point

What we have here is failure to communicate, some sets you just can't find, so you get what we've had here today. Which is the way Lego wants it, well they gets it. I don't like it any more than you......1 point
