  1. Picked up a 310 Esso Station recently and got round to building it. It's in really nice condition for it's age, probably around 55 years old.

  2. Picked this up while breaking my keyboard ordering 75192. Thought I'd share some pictures of the wallmount that I did. Ended up taking down my support structure for the UCS Tie Fighter and harvesting those pieces and a few others I had lying around. The bottom support bears the entire weight of the set while the upper support is purely for stability. Both are on Stage 1, so playtability and "show and tell" are not adversely affected. Next step...lights!

  3. Toysrus.com has many sets marked down 20% - 30% off, some off RRP and some off TRURP. I hope these prices hold out for TRUTH. It appears all Speed Champions are 20% off. Here are a couple highlights: 60098 - City: Heavy Haul Train - $139.99 (30% off) 70912 - LBM: Arkham Asylum - $104.99 (30% off)

  4. Just sold a 75192 UCS MF for $1400 on a CL sale. I really wanted to build this, but figured it was worth posting at $1,500 and seeing if anyone bites. It wasn't up less than 24 hours. I can wait for my own.

  5. Recent FBA Sales: $56 - 75080 AAT ($11) $40 - 41131 Friends 2016 Advent ($8) $42 - 60078 Utility Shuttle ($5) $50 - 60118 Garbage Truck ($12) I also sold a 2013 dented Friends advent on Ebay for $50. Who said the advent market is dead I wish I had bought tons of these garbage trucks from Target last Christmas, but there was so much else to buy I only grabbed a handful.

  6. Via our Friends over at The Brick Fan: As we know by now, Toys R Us has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy but what will happen with the company and all the LEGO exclusives we could get from them? As an employee of Toys R Us/Babies R Us, what I’ve been told by my manager is that we’ll still be running normally like we’ve been running. No stores will be closing in the short term but may close poor performing stores after the holiday season. As for reports that a lot of vendors have refused to ship products, those are only for the smaller companies. I believe the larger companies like Mattel, Hasbro, and even LEGO are still getting products to the stores. There won’t be any “going out of business” sales because this isn’t a Chapter 7 bankruptcy and TRU is not going out of business at this time. So what happens with all the LEGO products at Toys R Us? There shouldn’t be any change with the selection. For those here in the US who are waiting for the Bricktober 2017 sets, you should still be able to find them in a few weeks. There will still be various sales going on and TRU does price match Amazon and other retailers. The Toys R Us bankruptcy comes just weeks after LEGO reported lower profits and layoffs themselves. It looks like that the whole toy industry isn’t doing well as a whole as more kids are gravitating to electronics and video games. We’ll see what happens after the holiday season but this is scary news especially since I’m an TRU/BRU employee but I feel that things will work out slowly, hopefully. 9. The writing is on the wall, I decided to get out now while market prices are still (marginally) profitable. Feels good, and the free’d space in the house is a plus. From here forward all LEGO sets will be those we actually want to build.

  10. Just sold a 9678 Twin-pod Cloud Car & Bespin on eBay for $10.88 free shipping! Bought 2-1/2 years ago on clearance for $2.88... after fees and shipping, almost doubled my money... woo hoo!

  12. That's why it's tricky to gauge the value of these sets off of eBay sales. Sold listings are one thing....Completed and PAID listings are another. eBay doesn't let you know if it was PAID for.

  14. Let's face facts...If everyone could walk into the store or order one online, who would be talking about it? The buzz has been building for months (even years) and it's done. The 75192 is a great set that was built to impress, but so was the 10179. They are not so different as to create some never ending dialog as to how wonderful it is. The buzz about the set itself is over and has been factored into the various LEGO forums for a long time. It reminds me of the stock market...Certain thing are just factored into it. By creating a shortage of sets, people will complain and moan, but they will still be talking about the 75192. Even bad publicity is good publicity...

  16. I never had Playmobil as a kid, but I'm tempted to buy all of the Ghostbusters sets and put them away for when the kids are older. They are on sale and I can't find any "hard to find" lego sets in stores to burn my gift cards on.

  17. I'm sure Playmobil, Lego, Fisher Price, etc. are all of the same mindset.

  20. Bought and rebuilt a Queen Anne's Revenge (4195) with the thought to flip it. This is my first ship from Pirates. But now that I've built it I don't want to part ways with it. Such an awesome ship! [emoji21] In fact now I want the Pearl.... ugh lol

  22. ...AND...all of those $100, $150, $200+ sets suddenly don't seem so expensive. I don't think 75192 is a true "loss leader", but it damn sure checks a lot of boxes as if it were.

  23. I agree. It's a devious tactic in marketing. What's even funnier is that people aren't even talking or complaining about an $800.00 LEGO set. Normally, there would be a huge backlash around here about the MSRP. Not with this set. It's possible that some perceptive LEGO employee knew by creating this issue, combined with the limited early VIP release and signing event (which resulted in exploding values on secondary market sites), the $800.00 price tag would seem like a bargain.

  24. Sounds like the "wait list" is just a "notify list" as nothing guaranteed except that the store should have some in stock at opening.

  25. Unlike the vast majority of sets since 2012, both 10179 and 75192 share one great thing. The buzz is about the set itself and not the minifigs. Like the Fishing Shop, Ferris Wheel, etc..., people seem to actually care more about the bricks & what they build far more than those 1.5" things

  26. I tried to talk to store employees about it last week. I think they might just be clueless at the Columbus store. They weren't doing anything else and I was like one of two people in the store, but they seemed really uncomfortable talking to me about it and couldn't answer any of my questions about how many they had, how many were lined up, etc. They may not have been there during opening, but they are always clueless at this store.

  28. Agreed. One of the contributing reasons, that I heard on NPR on the way home last night, was that 30% of all toy sales are done online. This is hurting the B&M stores toy sales. NPR didn't mention TRU's pricing practices, but did say that they need to accommodate shoppers better during the non holiday season (other 9 months) by allowing the demo of toys etc.

  31. It is not much, but I only have 10 of each retired sets , when I decide to sell , depending on the season , they probably all go on a Christmas season... And again , these are sold in Mexico, it takes a little bit more to go through expensive sets ...

  38. Lego is perceived as having a 'good value' in terms of a premium toy. The vast vast vast vast majority of buyers have no evaluation of resell value when buying their children's toys. No parent goes "hrmm.. which will have more resell 3yrs from now, xbox or playstation??" - They know Lego is a premium product and the value is in what they get from it as a toy. They know the product will be good quality, won't break, will be fun, and has lots of possibilities. They know the quality of the bricks and complete picture will probably be better than the competitor blocks and will pay Lego's premium because of it. Not because they think they can get 30% more for the used lego brick vs the Megablock. The affluent buyers of Lego are already affluent It's the same in every hobby, the heavily engaged enthusiasts far overstate their importance in the market. The folks selling MISB kits or "complete with box" used kits are not the center of the market. It's the enthusiasts who like to go through a lot of sets and the speculators. For these first group, knowing the sets have good residual value helps them justify the price because they know they will buy, sell, and buy the next set. These guys don't need increased values to be happy, they are just diffusing costs. The speculators only want appreciation or they are underwater. The resell market is still trivially small compared to the full retail presence of Lego - its why Lego retail has no price pressure from it. The 'bulk' and incomplete sets still dominate the non-enthusiasts used sales. I agree on the misses in many of the recent lines (I wanted to mention the SuperHeros.. but didn't have anything to back it up) but I think this is more localized to Lego's products. The 'super hero fatigue' is not as imminent as many would want you to believe. Marketing is one that is very difficult for many to evaluate objectively.... especially without the power of hindsight. I don't agree sets like the Saturn V would be household items if promoted on TV. At the end of the day it's still a 3' long display piece with limited play potential compared to sets costing less and taking up far less space. Be objective, the market is more than our individual preferences. Back to the topic of the thread - No I don't think UCS reissues and other snubs at the speculator's market are suddenly to blame for Lego's recent 6 month performance. The numbers are just insane. Even by the contributor here who speculated that there would have only been 800 75192 sets sold in the US at launch... look at the scales involved here. 800 sets at 800 dollars is only 640k in revenue. Lego does over 41 MILLION a month in revenue. So even at 130 stores at 10 each.. or roughly 1 million in sales revenue.. that's still only 2.5% of the total activity going on. So while it's a huge amount of money... it's still just a minor contributor to the bigger picture. So it's gonna take a WHOLE LOT MORE to have the 'hit on speculators' to magically be responsible for a 12+month trend that Lego has been experiencing in the US. Issues with expensive programs like Lego Dimension failing to gain traction, the long term outlook of Digital, and other items I wager are FAR more important to TLG leadership than worrying about the burn a few hundred Lego hoarders are feeling over the 10179 being reissued.

  39. The flaw in your posts is you are treating "customers" and "Lego investor" as the same thing - they aren't. They are motivated differently, they want different things. Lego isn't steering their business to "Lego investors"

  42. I can't give it to 2017, two UCS remakes disqualifies it. I like 2010 quite a bit. Imperial Shuttle, Imperial Flagship, Tower Bridge, Motorized Excavator, Grand Emporium, Hogwarts, At-At Walker, and Shuttle Adventure were all cool sets and great investments (except for immortal Tower Bridge) 2008 had Taj and GG but I think 2010 is deeper.

  44. I've been working on #71042 Silent Mary the past week. Enjoying the build so far as I'm up to bag #9 of 13. This is the first ship that I have built. I've got about 90% of the #4184 Black Pearl which is my next goal to build. Still got my eye out for a cheap #4195 Queen Anne though...
