We're talking about company leaks this around. Not KOs. Nearly every leaked image of Lego, Apple, etc... product I've seen have been from camera phones in manufacturing plants or warehouses. Nothing hacked. 60 mins did a nice piece on this. Factory workers get paid more for one leaked photo than 6-12 months of salary.3 points

Hey Folks. Here is the write up of my first show. It covers a few different topics. I will put summaries of the shows in blog form once the new site is up a running. --------- Big Lego Boxes Welcome to How Big Is It. Are you a Lego Collector? Are you a Lego investor? Then keep on reading. Have you ever picked up a lego box and thought, wow this is big? Have you ever tried to wrap a lego box and thought, I can’t believe it takes a whole roll of wrapping paper? Of course, kids will always want the set in the biggest box, but adults can also be swayed by a big box. It is a key marketing decision. For the most expensive adult oriented sets, Lego has started to make a few smaller and denser boxes. Why? I don’t know. Some possible reasons are shipping costs, display space, or using less packaging. The last 4 modulars are all about the same piece count and weight, but the box has been shrinking. This is good for the investor since they are easier to store. 2013 Palace Cinema (10232) 0.89 cubic feet 2014 Parisian Restaurant (10243) 0.78 cubic feet 2015 Detective Office (10246) 0.78 cubic feet 2016 Brick Bank (10251) 0.70 cubic feet I started thinking about box size when I received my 76042 SHIELD Helicarrier in March 2015. I opened the shipping box from Lego and couldn’t believe how huge the box was. At that point it was the largest set that I owned in the largest box. I didn’t realize the size before ordering it because I had never seen it in a store. I had only seen it online. I would guess many of these large sets are ordered without the purchaser really knowing what they are getting. To prevent more surprises, I have collected a variety of sets for comparison. So how big is it? How big is the SHIELD Hellicarrier box? Helicarrier (76042) - 52041 cm3 or 1.84 ft^3 Star Destroyer Microfighter (75033) - .027 ft^3 - 69x smaller Star Wars Battle Pack (7655) - .038 ft^3 - 49x smaller Avengers Quinjet City Chase (76032) - .427 ft^3 - 4x smaller Indomindous Rex Breakout (75919) - .701 ft^3 - 2.5x smaller Ewok Villiage (10236) - .885 ft^3 - 2x smaller Sydney Opera House (10234) -1.67 ft^3 - a little smaller Taj Mahal (10189) - 1.34 ft^3 - a little smaller Death Star playset (10188) - 1.72 ft^3 - a little smaller Death Star II (10143) - 2.20 ft^3 - finally a box bigger than the Helicarrier Now I am am really curious. What are the all time biggest Lego boxes? I have done my research, and now I present to you: The Top 10 Biggest Lego Boxes Before I start, you should write down your list and see how many to get right. Top 10 Largest Lego Boxes by volume (cubic feet)* 10. 1.72 - 10188 Death Star 2008 6. 1.84 - 10221 Super Star Destroyer 1.84 - 75827 Firehouse Headquarters 1.84 - 76042 SHIELD Helicarrier 1.84 - 75195 Death Star 2016* 5. 1.86 - 3290 Scala Big Family House 4. 2.13 - 10179 Millennium Falcon* 3. 2.19 - 10030 Star Destroyer 2. 2.20 - 10143 Death Star II 1. 2.46 - 4785 Duplo Black Castle *Data taken from Brickpicker.com if I didn’t have the box. Not all online data agree with my personal measurements. My personal measurements take precedence. Side Note: 10030 online data 58.8 x 50.5 x 21 (cm) my measuement 58.7 x 50.2 x 21 10143 online data 58.7 x 50 x 21 (cm) my measurement 58.7 x 50.5 x 21 Here is a photo of the top 10 minus the Millennium Falcon (waiting for sale) and Death Star 2016 (morally opposed) in 4th and 6th place respectively. Well, were you surprised? How many of the top 10 sets were on your list? If you have any other cool comparisons you want to see, let me know. According to Lego, the new Millennium Falcon (75192) box will be 96228 cm^3 in size (3.40 ft^3). That is the same size as the Helicarrier box plus the Sydney Opera House box (see comparison above). seeing all the new sets in the new catalog and how much money these are going for i've been unloading them all. jw and scooby doo are the unquestionable winners in the last year. The only set that might not be remade would be Irex. pretty much a guarantee you will see another T-rex and raptor, pteranadon. maybe another diplosaurus. the demand for this theme is strong and you can sell through 4-5 Irex's in a day for $250 if you have the buy box. pretty good return for the irex's i was topping off with in January from TRU for $91. ended up with 30 at EOL. down to 12.2 points

Thoughts Overall, it is a very solid build. Every thing locks in nicely. It is basically the gimmick mechanics surrounded by technic bricks with all of the sides attached. Head is attached with one technic pole. Contains mostly white plates of varying sizes. Has quite a few of the 1/4 circle flat tiles in the set in white. I don't have R2 anymore (otherwise I would have posted a photo), but this build had the same sort of feel, but was definitely more streamlined. I found the head assembly on BB-8 more solid than R2. Granted it is smaller but all of the pieces are locked in much better. The thumbs up gimmick is smooth and works great. I wish the blue arrow tip tilted just a little more outwards like it does in the movie but that is a nitpick. Head gimmick is good. Hard to control it since the dial on the side operates both rotation and up and down movement. I guess the idea is for his head to bob around a little like in the movie. Uses a single yellow elastic to achieve it. I am not a fan of the stand. It is basically a cross of plates with four slope bricks "holding" BB-8 in place. BB-8 is super solid standing on his own and the stand is really just decoration. No spelling errors on the sticker as far as I can notice this time. I always found display stands with name plates for anything to be quite silly. I mean if you spent all this money on the item, I would hope you would know who the character is. Would have preferred the specs in the manual like the other UCS sets in the last few years. The stand is probably only 50 pieces or so not a big loss, I won't be displaying it. Could have been cool if the made a sand Jakku base to go with it instead. As far as I can tell, it is the same BB-8 minifig as the Force Awakens set. I think this one is going to be very popular with kids and collectors. R2 was a great set, but this one is half the price and will be available at more stores (In Canada I could only get R2 from shop at home or Toysrus.ca). It also has the luxury of coming out in between two huge movies where as R2 was only riding on the Clone Wars cartoon at the time.2 points

Hello everyone I'm 45 yo and I've started playing lego again for 2 years now. I'm a minifigs fan too, so sometimes I like to create small or medium builds to display them. Here's a set I've just finished called "Weird Science" to display one of my favorites minifigs the Bee and the Man Plant (Plant Man?). You can see other pictures and other stuff here : https://www.flickr.com/photos/rsmbricks/ Hope you like it Happy to be playing Lego again and sharing it with lego fans1 point

They should have given them some of those $1 keychains! All I'm saying is that it'll be interesting. The internet is a great way to raise a stink over something so trivial as a free gift with purchase!1 point

So, I suspect one of the sets will be the indomiraptor or whatever it's called. Looks like I should hold onto the JW theme that I invested in for a bit... I will say the sets have skyrocketed up quite a bit lately, so they definitely have legs. I just wonder if we will just get Blue, and Trex again, as I suspect they will recycle at least a few of the molds, and maybe produce a few new ones. More than likely that will be the case, but hopefully there are a few more molds out of this. I think the IR set will be safe, and probably be one of the more valuable sets as time goes on.1 point

Maybe 75192 and 10179 would have been more appropriate captions. Funny how people are happy with their lot until a slightly newer/younger version comes out. Car manufacturers have been dining out on this for decades with their model year strategies by changing a grille or some lights.1 point

This set is rising faster than expected. Many didn't think it had potential as an investment, including me.1 point

Corporate espionage is a huge problem in china for all companies. Even a company's own employees in china can't be completely trusted with sensitive information. Such information is always sought after and if someone pays high enough a price then someone will always cave.1 point

Just bought 3 copies of 75170 (The Phantom Mark II). Might buy more soon. I'm currently in the US on holiday, so I bought 3 of them from Walmart for $23.97 (Thanks Oregon for 0 sales tax). Compared to the UK RRP of £39.99, that's under half. I'll chuck the boxes and take the sets home with me. Might split them, might sell them whole. Not sure, but since they're very hard to get discounted in the UK (Smyths exclusive), it should be easy money.1 point

Yeah. I will definitely buy one to build. I had 2 of the original 10179. I built one three times waiting until my boy was old enough to build it himself (he was 9. He built 90% by himself). Then I sold it used for $1500. I had another sealed original series one set that I sold a year later for $2500. So It's nice to have another opportunity to build this epic set.1 point

I've had the free MAX trial refreshing every three months for a couple years now, mysterious, but I dare not ask any questions. I see that now if you're a VIP at any level you get a year of free MAX trial level. I'm just wrapping up probably my winningest two weeks since I started, sitting on $30 in points that's all winnings from mostly the bonus games that pop up on the WinIt app. Now the question is, do I bother to go to the store to see if they have anything I want on clearance or just buy one of the new Creator Modular houses.1 point

PSA: Keep checking your SYW accounts for surprise points offers, even if not on Toys. Today I cached in on 3x $7 sp on $7+ KMart Apparel, a $5 sp on $5+ KMart Apparel and a $8 sp on $8+ Sears. I added $3 in points in total and got pants, t-shirts, socks and a nice bath towel.1 point

This is positive news overall for the LEGO fan and collector. A 7541 piece Falcon (if it is a Falcon) will be quite different from the 10179...almost 50% bigger. Quite impressive. This set will impress any fan or non-fan for that matter and will bring a huge buzz to LEGO once again. While a release of another UCS Falcon will hurt the 10179, one can hope that the new set will be limited and that the price will be restrictive to most of the buying public. There will always be people that want the 10179, especially to display next to this behemoth. Regardless, this set will be a flipper's dream this Holiday season...1 point

Oh Jar Jar and it's not even close. Assault on Hoth should not be a UCS, I think we can all agree on that. But for those that don't have the other sets, it's a great way to get everything in one shot. The Disney/Star Wars combo is making the new sets cost way too much, and this is another instance of that. Look at the new sets coming out and their alleged prices. They are all $10-20 more than I believe that set would have cost a few years ago. What are you going to do with a Jar Jar bust? I would just want to punch it, or shoot it as mentioned above. If another bust is made, it will be Darth Vader or possibly a Kylo Ren now with the new trilogy out.1 point
