  3. The Architecture Sydney Opera House I found a few months ago was pretty good, but I think this might have it beat for my relic of the year find.

  5. Created this from a 16"x20" front-loading shadow box and white foam core from Hobby Lobby and bricks ordered from LEGO Bricks & Pieces. Cragled 48 1x2 plates to foam and clicked on other bricks to build Minifig stands that can be modified for a variety of figs and accessories. Since it is front-loading, figs can be easily swapped out.

  14. Not that Coupons work with it, but Ronix R.E.X. was 9.98 at my closest TRU. Shelf spot had 19.98, scanned half that. Hobbit Witch King's Battle? Still 16.99.

  16. I think I'm going to ride the hype-train on this set. Take the day off work, be first in line at the Lego Store, go home and start building right away. I'm setting my expectations high, but still trying to be a realist. I just want: -Numbered first production run -Same size/scale as 10179 -Some added reinforcement and external detail -A few interior features (not expecting much) -Printed pieces -Exclusive mini-figs -Premium packaging and instructions -Nice to have: engine light bricks and/or a display stand

  17. I think that after 10 years as an investment it was the best lego had to offer , and to think that it was going to last forever was foolish and greedy... Most of us in the lego game , ( the ones still holding 10179 NISB) knew this was happening with plenty of time , if they still have it , is because they choose to lose on their investment.... I choose to ride this second wave than complain that the first one is over ....

  18. I think this is a deal site more geared toward women/mothers. My wife was familiar with it, even had an account. She says they're legit, but her judgement is forever suspect since she married me.

  21. I doubt that I will be stockpiling these anytime soon. If my Death Stars ever decide to move out of the house, maybe we can talk.

  22. I think people are highly overestimating the amount of buyers who are looking to spend $1k+ on a set. Obviously a lot less people will be able to afford scooping up UCS Falcons to resell compared to most other sets, but there will still be enough that this will be no different than any other set where people will be fighting for the slimmest margins possible in no time.

  23. Agreed. I could see going there for their mini-builds. However, the last few have been sub-par at best. My kids could design something more creative than their latest builds. Only other thing might have been exclusive sets. However, last time I asked a LEGO store manager about exclusives, he said they were ending all store-specific exclusives as of this fall. I.E. he specifically mentioned the the new A-wing, exclusive to TRU, will be one of the last ones. Otherwise I'm tired of seeing jacked-uped prices for sets I can get much cheaper at LEGO@home, Target, WM, or Amazon. No point in going...

  31. For anyone thinking about quick flipping this set, even beyond the challenge of achieving a price above sales tax, shipping cost, insurance, packing material, giant sturdy shipping box, fees, risk of damage inherent with such a heavy item, etc, please know you will be the target of scammers more than any Lego set ever. Scammers don't waste time on my small sets. They hit buy it now on my biggest sets. They will snap these up at your highest buy it now, and they will do so with highjacked accounts that look legit. You'll think you've scored, and you'll ship it out quick, only to get an automated notice that this was a fraudulent purchase. They might freeze the funds, they might just refunds the buyer, even if you both get your money back, we all pay more in fees and you've just aided a criminal. The money they make off this crime may go to pay the rent or feed their baby, or maybe it goes to drugs, terrorism, and human trafficking. Overdramatic? Maybe. I'll I'm saying is, just wait till I post that I've sourced my copy, then go crazy you QFLL's ?

  35. I went to TLS Tuesday evening when they got the Ninjago blind bags in. I was told they sold out instantly. Well, I can't visit Mecca and not spend money! This is me showing restraint and just picking up some staples: milk, bread, and eggs. Needing something more exciting, I picked this for a personal build/fig flip for $23.78 at Target.

  40. It won't be out on Force Friday. That's when we'll hear the announcement. The Sept 14 release date is from the store calendar. It doesn't identify the set, but conventional wisdom says it will be one of the two mystery VIP early access sets that day.

  41. How is LEGO damaging its own collectability? Do reprints of classic comic books hurt the collectability of the originals? Do new versions of a Darth Vader figure hurt the collectability of the original? No. They're just as rare as they were before. What hurts the collectability of LEGO are people hoarding massive quantities of sets in anticipation of their "collectability." They're never truly rare hence not as collectable. When investors panic about new versions of sets and try to sell off their old ones, values plummet because supply is high and their true lack of collectability has been exposed a.k.a. the bubble bursts. I understand the draw of buying LEGO sets as investments (I bought a few as just-in-cases that I wouldn't mind putting together and putting on display if they end up with no value), but don't blame LEGO for what you've done to the secondhand market.

  43. These days I only go to TRU for something exclusive like certain polybags. Hardly a sale that can convince me to buy anything otherwise.
