I didn't know where else to put this, but it's a great video taken inside the LEGO Archive Vault by Beyond the Brick. Just brilliant to watch all these old and in many cases long forgotten sets and themes:4 points

I'm an 11-year vet of the US Army. I have US flag representations in LEGO bricks throughout my city display. I don't find them offensive in the least, as long as it's represented with dignity & respect. As long as you're not depicting it on the ground, being burned, tattered, etc., it'd be pretty ridiculous for anyone to take issue.3 points

3/4 of the marketing and advertising industry in UK are down for maintenance because of ransomware, I'm off today because of the Petya virus which spread across the entire industry within hours shutting down entire facilities and companies leaving us completely unable to work or even use computers. Who knows what's behind this maintenance thing...2 points

Yeah, my sons were very put off by the different voices. Why not just use the original voice actors? How much more marketing buzz gets generated by having Fred Armisen voice one of the characters? I've never understood having famous people be voices for animated films.2 points

Little disturbing return came in today. Had a Nasa Saturn V come back UPS with reason REFUSED, RECEIVER DID NOT ORDER today. Only noticed it right away as it was a fellow member here who is quite active in the community. Box came back partially open and inside was a set far from what was sent. Little shocked as the user had purchased multiples from us and a few were drop shipped and one went to them. The one that went to them was the one that was refused. No email, no contact, no nothing just an unexpected return. The set box was heavily damaged and cut on the side and had loose pieces rattling. Luckily after taking the time to inventory everything was there so no huge loss there. Guess the the fact that no communication was made at all from an experienced seller and someone part of the group so to speak is what got to me most. Funny thing was the listing was for distressed box items which were actually not bad at all and were from factory sealed cases and I noticed the username before shipping and actually sent them ones that were not even distressed. The box inside still had the 40lb craft paper perfectly intact as shown and the shipping box was not in to bad of shape considering the distance it went there and back. Yet somehow the set I received back looked like this and had loose pieces. Who knows maybe it happened in transit. Maybe they forgot to change the dropship address like the others they shipped and never meant for it to go to them. Maybe they didn't need it anymore after getting more of there own to fulfill there orders. I'll go with one of those theories in my head seeing the person didn't make any contact. You would think though if it was along those lines they would of contacted saying the set was damaged and asked for a return or if we had replacements or better yet just fill out an automated return. Again the lack of communication leads the mind to think of worse things. Would hate to think a fellow member would intentionally do something like that. The close to 4 hour time it was delivered then dropped off to a UPS store for the refusal was a little strange too. 06/22/2017 12:56 P.M. Delivered 06/22/2017 4:42 P.M. The shipment has been dropped off and is now at The UPS Store®. 06/22/2017 7:57 P.M. The receiver states the product was not ordered and has refused the delivery. / The package will be returned to the sender. I've dealt with many members on here both buying and selling and never ran across any issues. Some orders very large and some very small. Everyone that I have dealt with knows how I pack and the time I take to do everything properly and the materials we use so to even have anything get damaged is a rarity. Think in last 4 years or so I might of had 1 or 2 items get damaged to that extent and they were small sets. Guess I am just shocked this happened from a community where everyone pretty much knows each other after all these years and there stores / usernames etc. It's a pretty small group in the big scheme of things that is active and partakes daily. I went back and forth to whether to mention it at all but figured I would share. The fact the user felt no need to contact me is what led to me posting without contacting them. Anyways you're refund has been done.1 point

Agreed. The 1st Amendment protects, not targets people (civilians)... however, if the person is military (as noted by@AirborneAFOL), the rules are different, as people are governed by the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice), which 'alters' a person's rights and don't have full 1st Amendment rights (i.e. Can't speak against the President / Commander-In-Chief).1 point

There is no such law. There's probably a few exceptions, like a military recruiter telling you not to serve could be a dereliction of duty, or helping someone burn their draft card could be an accomplice to a crime. But there's no law to the effect of what you're asking about. And to my knowledge, there never has been. 1st Amendment is pretty generous when it comes to "free speech". It's perfectly legal to burn flags, slander the military, et al. Even modest attempts to curtail those types of "speech" over the years have been unequivocally shot down by the courts. I suspect the context of the song lyric is it wouldn't be legal for YOU to not register for the draft (not that its illegal to merely tell you not to). Selective service requires all 18-yr old males to register. The draft hasn't been used since Vietnam, but registration is still required.1 point

One of the reasons that Amazon gated textbooks was because they were sued by textbook manufacturers over counterfeit sales back in January. I don't have any insight into what has come of that litigation, but my assumption is that the recent gating is a response to it. The same thing could certainly happen in the Lego market if TLG took a similar step as the textbook publishers, but they don't have the same incentives to be as aggressive given that their business model is so different than textbook publishers. Those companies have a vested interest in destroying the secondary market for their products because every textbook that is resold is one less sale that the company will realize...that's why they refresh textbooks every few years with new editions. For Lego, the secondary market is fundamentally different...retired sets don't function as substitutes for sets that are currently available so Lego doesn't have the same inherent incentive to destroy the secondary market. And Amazon is, I think, keenly aware that imposing a hard brand gate on Lego would effectively destroy the market given the restrictions that TLG places on who can become an authorized dealer. If they weren't, I don't think they would have been as generous with the grandfathering last year.1 point

I took a chance through a local FB virtual yardsale and picked up a lot for $200. She wouldn't budge on the price. The loose mixed lot has parts to 7261 CTT with beat up box, some random other older SW parts and minis. Plus various pieces from older HP, older City, Exo-Force and other parts from early mid 2000's era. I've picked about 2 dozen various figures so far with some mixed matched and loads of parts and accessories to go through. I'll probably just sell this off after cherry picking and picking out any non Lego stuff. Also in the lot is a open box sealed bags 8289 Technic Fire Truck and a open box sealed bags 10174 AT-ST. I gambled on these 2 hoping all the bags are there. Both Instruction are good along with a nice 10174 UCS sticker. These were literally thrown in a closet in 2007 with other toys stacked on top of them and never touched. Boxes are beat though. Now the hard part of confirming if both sets have all the bags..... That Hippogriff is $10....1 point

Great, another thing to ponder. I'm never going to get anything done. I'll take it as a milestone. I've been here long enough, and posted often enough for you guys to be curious. This is a badge of honor. I will seek out an appropriate picture. I may test a few before settling on one. I can assure everyone, there will be no cat involved. I apologize to the feline lovers out there. But it ain't me.1 point

Why is everyone talking about seal codes already? This set isn't a limited edition / numbered edition set etc, it'll be out just like other idea sets for at least one year.1 point

I think the Lego designers based the UCS set on one of the original scale models used in the A New Hope. There is one so called "superhero model", which is an incredibly detailed model used for close up shots. This model has battle damage and oxidation, both of which are very hard to replicate using Lego bricks (except when using prints or stickers). Another thing is that the scale of the UCS model is a bit off on some of the parts. Namely the tubing is way too thick compared to the rest of the model. The actual model has thin copper tubes, which don't stand out as much (they are more of a yellowish copper). Now all of this is about the original model used in A New Hope. It was given to someone named Alan Jadd who helped Lucas get his movie released. It looks like this: More pictures over here: https://propstore.com/blog/top-5-star-wars-artefacts-in-prop-store-ceo-stephens-personal-collection/ From what I've read there is a LOT of difference between different models used and especially between different films. One good example is this model: This model was made by Bill George (ILM) and if I understand it correctly, was used in Return of the Jedi. More pictures here: http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=2722 Now the pictures are kind of dark, but it's pretty clear that the copper tubing is way less pronounced on this model. It's very thin (which is not possible to replicate in Lego unless you change scale) and the colors are more muted. Here's an interesting video about the background behind the original superhero y-wing model: As you can probably tell I'm a big fan of the Y-Wing. I can understand why some people might not think much of it, but to me it's appearance fits perfectly with the role it has to play in the rebellion. I think the line Luke has about the Falcon, fits the Y-Wing just as well. It might look like a piece of junk, but it'll kick your a** any day.1 point

I remember the yellow castle - it was one of the first Lego sets I owned as a kid. I got it for a birthday, spent all day building it, then distinctly remember a friend coming round to play, then I went to the toilet or to get a drink or something and when I got back he had broken it up into a million pieces. I went nuts and him but all he kept saying was "it wasn't me, it was this crazy knight!" while holding a knight on a horse. Scarred for life I was.1 point
