  1. I didn't want my 10179 buyer to have a terrible time hunting for bricks during his build. Thus I created a MS Paint app inspired drawing. It tells what sections of the ship are in what bag. While helpful, my 7 year old said he can do better note; the tear down took 1 hour (did it carefully) which is a tiny fraction of the length it took to build and filled 12 UPS envelopes. each bag was 1/4 to 1/3 filled. The 2 masts were sandwiched between 2 pieces of hard poster-board.

  7. It's all about the quality and variety of the sets. Harry Potter had a wide variety of sets that included creative vehicles, landmarks and characters. LOTR sets were more based on rocks, bushes and wood. Vehicles sell and appreciate well in any theme. The LOTR sets have few worthwhile vehicles.

  10. But when they were given the possibility for a vehicle, they didn't take it. I'm looking at you Oliphant and Fell Beast(no cars in Middle Earth). They were in the latter two movies and shown prominently in the largest battle of the movies but hey, at least we got that boat with Peter Jackson on it ?

  11. Most people here are not amateurs, they'll need full set lists to take you seriously, if you want to move in bulk. Provide a full list and a price and you'll move more quickly. List like this, and you'll hear mostly from people trying to pick the lowest hanging fruit for the lowest possible price. It'll take a while. The more sophisticated your listing, the more sophisticated offers you'll get.

  13. It's funny that anyone thinks TLG would be releasing sets that they aren't making sufficient margins on. I'd go the other way and say that sets like this show you how much they overcharge for most everything else.

  16. Hi everyone! I'm new to the world of Lego investments but have been a lifelong fan. I used to compete in Lego speed building competitions in CA. I have many sets from Bionicle and Star Wars Ultimate Collectors Series that were my initial childhood collections but I'm trying to expand and sort through bulk to rebuild used sets and sell them for profit. Also it would be great if I could get advice from anyone on how to list and display my sets for sale online. I have an ebay and amazon store, but no clue on how to describe products to a professional standard. Is there a place here where anyone might be able to list products for sale? I'm open to any and all suggestions!

  17. I stopped using Smartpost several years ago. It takes away frustration from the buyer. I'll eat the $3 - $5, no biggie.

  18. No joke. How a version of Sauron was never made is beyond me. Lego really screwed up LotR with the sets that they made and we've seen countless lists of wants from fans only to get crap like Pirate Ship Ambush which is in the regular film for about 5 seconds.. Outside of Unexpected Gathering, Hobbit sets were pretty bad as well. Lego did very will with Harry Potter sets but I feel they had more to work with there as well. More building locations to work with and vehicles to make. Even then they had lots of remakes. 3 trains and 4 castles(5 if you count Battle for Hogwarts).

  19. I took advantage of the 10% eBay bucks promo to move some new but damaged box sets and some used sets that I'd recently acquired on CL. I posted about one of the CL hauls a couple of months ago that included mostly Winter Village sets and Creator houses - after selling the odds and ends from that lot (keeping the Winter Village and houses) and a second used collection I picked up on CL, I'm now $1.38 away from paying for both hauls with some more sets and a lot of used parts and mini figures left for BL, so thats nice. Anyway, after a pretty slow late May / early June on eBay, I definitely had an uptick of sales during the %10 buying window. This was the first time I've had a lot (by my small timer standards, about 15 items) listed during a promo, so I'm curious if any of you veterans keep track of the percentage increase of sales you have during promo times? I imagine there is usually a small but noticeable increase, but then again, when there is a selling promo as well, competition definitely increases.

  20. Sold another tumbler for £250 with £1 FVF fee, so clearing about £80 after all deductions. This will probably go much higher in years to come but need to clear out inventory and also not so keen on really long term holds now due to cloners and stagnation in market

  21. So Walmart brick and mortar had it for $20 at clearance and some Target's recently had it for $23 on clearance

  24. Yes, asking about selling. But I just realized that I'm mostly selling sets on BL, and not parts. Makes sense that parts are going to be far easier to determine a shipping weight. And that makes sense for the picking for the order. I wouldn't want to pick parts under I was paid, either. Sets are bit easier to deal with.

  25. This is one of the old LEGO Star Wars builds where the usage of odd colors (in this case blue) looks stylish in a way. Being a good design to begin with also helps.

  26. They look in a decent condition. You must have been lucky as my last delivery from John Lewis turned up like this: Getting back on topic.... Lego Stratford Westfield had at least a dozen in stock this afternoon, with no purchase limit.

  28. Probably not a good idea, because I've been burned a few times (wasted time), but I generally will pick and pack, then send an invoice so I can provide an accurate shipping cost. It's burned me a couple of times when the buyer doesn't pay or cancels because of shipping costs. You have to remember the marketplace you are buying on. On eBay, my pricing includes additional costs - eBay fees, included postage. On BL, I can charge a lot less, because the fees are a lot lower (10% vs 3%) and I make the buyer pay shipping. That's the downside, as a seller though. Because you could order sets on Amazon and not pay for shipping and you're ordering sets on BL and suddenly paying $50 in shipping costs. But you definitely need to even the playing field to compare pricing.

  29. I'd like the 10% all items (sale price included) rather than the 15% off RRP items, which sometimes only bring down to MSRP.

  31. Luckily, all of my orders were coming from folks with lots of feedback, I negatives, and a history of paying quickly on big orders. One thing I enjoy about selling on BL is the chance for some extra communication between buyer and seller. Whether generated through the quote process or invoicing. Usually it's to complain about shipping costs, lol. But it all works out in the end.

  32. I have quite a few sets that I have recently built and still in the queue. The most recent build is the new Snowspeeder and I was happy to get a refresh of this set for my collection. I built two-to-three bags every day for 5 days and I really enjoyed the build because there wasn't a lot of greebling. My favourite part is the ass end; it looks fantastic and the designer did a great job on both that and the sleek appearance. I put the stickers on but the only ones that add aesthetic value are the front orange one and the side window white stripes, the others are a complete waste. I would like to see a little more work on the underside (or how about a functioning tow cable) and two tiles on the back 45 degree 1x2 bricks instead of loose studs but it's an overall great piece and I don't really like the Snowspeeder to begin with!

  33. Finished building this today. Very fast build since there aren't a lot of pieces. Still love the design and I think it displays very very well. Can't believe it's 15+ year old set.

  34. First attempt at using rebrickable and brick link. Should have really stuck to building 1 model at a time but complicated life by ordering for 4 different models to save on postage. Finding some parts of both brick link and rebrickable more hard work than they really need to be. Here is my first moc, Anio's ST19 Sith Infiltrator. Still waiting on a few final printed parts and the sticker but happy with the result. Roskolnikovs large AT-AT is next up then the upgrade pack for 42056 and thanks to @thoroakenfolder I'm busy collecting parts for a 10134

  38. Bittersweet sale last week. Sold my used 10179 for two bills. After fees, profit is $400. So basically, I was paid $400 to build and display the set for a nice amount of time. It Probably would have fetched closer to $2,800 if sold near the release of The Force Awakens. Some pics...

  39. Recently I got back from a duty in Nigeria and bought some retired sets for myself (thanks to the allowance). One of these sets is set 10027 "Train Engine Shed". After I received the set I dismantled it, washed the bricks and base plates and started building. During the building I found several parts were used which are not original and some parts were missing. Still need to order those. Nevertheless I am very very happy with this set. A great appearance and it looks great on display. One day I will use it for my future City. Luckily I found out the Emerald Night (another set I bought after my duty) cannot pass it due to the width. A major crash has been avoided . Cheers!

  40. Saw these sets tagged yesterday when picking up a Saturn. The grain of salt would be that this is the same store that had a 'Retiring Soon' tag on Ewok Village at least 9 months before it actually happened, and well before it had the tag online, so this could be in the everything-but-the-Death-Star-retires-eventually category.

  41. I bought one of these ages ago and stuck it in the loft, hoping to sell it after retirement and make a little profit. Built the new carousel (10257) this week and just had to build the Ferris Wheel as well, so out of the loft it came! I have no willpower! Both of these fantastic sets complement each other superbly. I'm looking forward to the next release in the "theme", hopefully it will be some sort of roller coaster.

  42. i would agree that any large rebels set post series has a high probability of being a ghost remake. its basically the mf of rebels.

  43. I don't know, The Ghost is starting to become a real fan favorite and if they can make an AT-TE which was only in 1 or 2 episodes, I don't see why they wouldn't release another Ghost. They even release obscure sets like Anakin's Custom Jedi Starfighter which afaik was only featured in a cartoon from 13 years ago.
