I just finished the Silent Mary and really loved building it. It was a very satisfying building without the premade hull. Most of the ships using the big hull pieces are so stubby and cookie cutter the same. This ship felt like a UCS Star Wars build with the internal technic frame and partial cladding and a lot less tedious than the Death Star II. This allowed the designers to make a slender tapering ship that seems to have much better sailing ship proportions. Obviously none of the sailing ships are to minifigure scale, but on this one nothing is minifigure accessible except the deck. I think that is ok since is allows the other features to be smaller and more to scale. I love all the gold. I have uploaded a comparison with the Imperial Flagship which is the biggest Lego sailing ship. You can see the Silent Mary is much shorter, especially since so much of its hull is out of the water by comparison, but it is only a few inches shorter. The real questions is whether it can eat the Imperial Flagship. As you can see, I think the Imperial Flagship is little to big a bite. Maybe just a bit off the flank.10 points

Probably the 40% off sale + R2-D2 was enough incentive to drive sales until it sold out entirely. Speculation about retirement seems completely premature.4 points

Found batman movie sets 70901 and 70902 for $10 each at costco. (been$16 the since they popped up in march there) Also batmobile for $40 was $46 I left them on the pallet and will go back next week to see if they are 50% off. I went to the other two costcos near me and I couldnt find legos so YMMV P.S. Funny that people were giving me weird looks for buying in bulk at costco4 points

I think a reveal for Thursday is quite likely. Release? Nah. Logistically, it would have been in production at least a few weeks ago. And then it would have to be distributed. No chance that it's made it this far along without some store employee spilling the beans. There's also the Snowspeeder. If this set is released on Thursday, sales on the Snowspeeder are completely cannibalized. People will by this instead of the Snowspeeder. I'd even venture a Force Friday release date but not before.4 points

Just wait until you're out and about and they tell you they need to poo RIGHT NOW which yeah, is RIGHT NOW... you'll be praying for a bathroom with the disposable hand towel paper instead of the warm air hand dryers because you inevitably forgot the backup supplies at home... if you remember them, you won't need them.3 points

To continue the parenting theme to the complaint thread... I had one of my most boneheaded parent moments over the weekend. I dressed my currently potty training two year old Saturday morning to go out shopping. While we were at Michaels, my son grabbed his crotch and indicated he had to pee. So I checked his diaper to see if it was a future or past event. No diaper. I picked him up and rushed to the bathroom...as he started peeing his pants. So close! I then had to clean him up and stuff paper towels in his pants to dry things up until we could get to the car to clean up properly and change pants. Luckily they were pants with a liner and it wasn't very visible from the outside what he'd done. How did I put his pants on without realizing he didn't have a diaper on?3 points

@Pedilego lets just hope none of those nice sets fall down onto the foyer. If so, it will be like a Home Alone movie scene.3 points

For anyone in Meijer country, the larger SW sets are on sale with $20-$25 off per set. Sets included the U-wing, AT-TE, and the Resistance X-Wing.2 points

These things spiked to above $60 on Amazon when they went OOS last Christmas season. Worth picking up a few on sub $30 deals even with retirement possibly far off.2 points

I've discovered it's something about 5 year old boys. He's been potty trained for a couple of years, but I still have to buy diapers twice a year for nighttime. Other friends we have with 5 year old boys report the same - they just don't wake up at night. I think they play so hard during the day that they're too tired to wake up at night.2 points

That 8x8 trans medium blue plate on top is rare and $$. Was in a couple Winter Village sets to be on the lookout for those if you're lucky.2 points

My almost-5 year old is in the same boat. I keep hoping one night he'll magically wake up dry. The nighttime pull-up purchases are eating into my Lego funds!2 points

I use eBay to sell use sets, damaged box stuff, expensive sets that I do not want to FBA or FBM, as well as items that I am gated in. As others have said eBay is very good for selling one offs and other random stuff, Amazon FBA excels at selling 150 of the same identical item. About 90% or more of what I sell on Amazon is FBA, I usually only FBM time sensitive items, last years Oregon Trail game comes to mind. As far as total split I'm roughly 70% Amazon / 30% eBay.2 points

Has anyone heard about a surprise reveal tomorrow and a release on Thursday? Someone on Brickset Forums said they heard it from an LBR employee. Which, yeah, I know, yeah right, but the reason I ask is because I heard a similar thing. I just don't think it can happen.. so don't get your hopes up and be disappointed when nothing happens tomorrow.2 points

Where there is adult trying to relive their childhood through Lego we will be there. Where there is some one who missed out on a set we will be there. Where somebody wants an exclusice set from an event we will be there. Where there is someone wanting a set on pre release we will be there. The reseller mantra.2 points

It's so nice to hear such positive responses. I must say, whoever led the design team, needs more projects. Put them in charge of UCS1 point

Just stick it somewhere discreet lol. I had the same issue with my Sandcrawler(exact piece too, except brown) and just stuck it on top as a hood ornament. I remember, that is a fragile beast.1 point

What people should keep in mind is that ... 10 years ago, bogus bricks (and other similar Chinese knock-off brands) did not exist! LEGO could afford to retire an exclusive set and not respond to the MISB unopened boxes creeping up in value on the aftermarket. They already earned money on the original sale, and TLG could focus on developing new sets. The high profile collectable sets were even a blessing for LEGO because it gave the brand a label of quality and desirability! But ... With Chinese knock off brands now copying and cloning original LEGO designs and making good money on that, they had to do something... These clones, simply by existing and putting out clones of retired sets, are both diminishing the exclusivity of those LEGO sets, and making people (the average buyer) see original LEGO sets as overpriced. Releasing a remake of a highly desirable older set hits two targets with one stone: it destroys the demand for (poor quality) clone versions of the original set, and it lets TLG get in on the apparent demand for the remade set.1 point

LEGO is a toy company, who benefit from their toys being collectible, but in the end want to sell toys. Yes, they are re-releasing some "classics", but only those which they think will have immediate, broad appeal and will sell past their production targets. I doubt they will start re-releasing more obscure sets as mentioned before. SW is hot right now, and unless LEGO has a commitment to resellers (which they don't) they would be stupid not to cash in and release a flagship set based on the flagship of the franchise. I often get the impression many of us here think LEGO is making short-sighted decisions, but I don't think they do. They have obviously factored all aspects of their appeal (both to kids and adults) into their product development, plus they are obviously aware of their status as a collectible product, and have many examples from other brands to look at and learn from. If LEGO thinks the time is right to make another MF UCS, I bet they have data to support it will sell well (compared with their targets). The "old" MF UCS will still have value, after all, it was the holy grail for so long, and if you collect you need that one. There might be a small bubble popping for those who bought at $2-$3k with the intent to resell, but for those who bought at retail there remains a nice amount of profit (granted, smeared out over many years) to be had. And if anything, the next holy grail is already out there, be it Taj Mahal, Grand Caroussel (though rumors on its replacement are also swirling), Green Grocer, etc. The thing is, the more people sour on investing in the larger sets (which is what I sense is happening right now), the more likely it is that in 5 years from now one of the currently retiring sets is the next UCS MF. Especially if TLG has to downsize their portfolio since the whole TLM surge in popularity is by now gone - some sets just won't be made again for a long time. Net, this is not the end of the road, just another inevitable change in the marketplace. Adapt or else ....1 point
