  2. I don't mind answering. These are good things to be thinking about for me anyway. 1. I'd say the most important thing is to know where your sets are and what condition they are in. I've spent a while reorganising and double-accounting all my stock and checking the condition over the last few months. If I list as very good condition then it needs to be that way and I need to be able to find it at short notice to have it packed and sent the next day. I don't often put photos on unless people ask or there is some visible issue, but I'm trying more to have sets that are for sale in easy reach to get more photos if there's a lull in selling. I'd say about 90% of my sets have sold with stock photos, just listed as very good condition (which they are) and I've never had complaints about the condition. 2. The biggest challenge has been to stick to my one working day dispatch time. If I know I'm going away somewhere, but have listed sets due to an eBay promo (e.g. a £1 max final-value fee), I bump up the prices to unreasonable levels and dispatch time to try to discourage people from buying, since you can't stop a listing temporarily and then restart with the promo. Only one person has ever bought when I've done this, and thankfully it was before I went away and I got extra money for the set! Another big challenge is to not worry about unreasonable complaints or things going missing. 3. I've not noticed any changes in the reselling market over the past two years really. There's certainly more knock-off mini figures which is likely pulling down the value of Superhero sets (I really thought these were winners when I stocked up but I have barely sold any in two years, mostly due to them not hitting heights that make it worth my time to sell them), but I have so many other themes that it's not impacted me. I think there probably are more resellers now and there was one month where the lowest price for most sets was much lower than before due to one seller seemingly trying to clear a lot in a short while, so I just took a break that month and I guess he cleared all his stock. 4. Knowing what I know today, I would have kept shares in Apple and Facebook and Amazon instead of buying Lego. But hindsight is a wonderful thing. I feared a stockmarket crash that should have happened but never did and I had spare money and liked Lego and got a thrill from chasing Lego bargains and spending money. I was not enjoying my job which took up most of my time and needed some addiction to keep the dopamine up and the Lego investing was it for a while. There are certainly worse things to get a thrill from and the returns from this have been great (as opposed to blowing money that you can't get back). 5. My strategy from here will depend on whether I end up with an office job again. While I work from home, I can keep going like this. I wait for eBay to offer me a promo and then I list about 40-70 sets (any unsold from last time and an extra copy of any I sold recently). If I go back to work away from home, I will have to put slower dispatch times and offload sets more slowly, but then I won't really need the money so desperately because I will only do that to get back to my decent salary I had three years ago. Side-note: It's worth trying being self-employed or having no income at all for a while, living off savings (or Lego reselling) for a while. Even if you have a wife and three kids! Once you've done that, the fear of losing your job security and income is not as big in future. I would have quit my office job much sooner if I had known I would not keel over and die without it. Almost all the biggest "success" stories I hear seem to come from people who hit rock bottom or just started with almost nothing. The effort to get back to parity (or just survive) drives you forward and then you don't lose that momentum when you hit "normal" - you keep going up. If you've only ever been at normal, then you can get stuck and don't have the momentum. Two of my biggest idols are Tony Robbins and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson - both started with so little, but they had good attitudes and determination and commitment. I think I've generally had a good attitude but have never been particularly self-disciplined to be able to stick to specific goals/projects. This Lego selling has helped a lot with that kind of thing, as I'm more of an Ideas Man who starts lots of projects and never takes them anywhere.

  3. The biggest rule that I have stuck to is to only play with house money. My selling started with 5 sets I picked up at Walgreens for $5 a piece. I ended up flipping them for $50 a piece.(4x 75015, 1x 75002). I paid myself back that $25 investment and started buying used sets in bulk. Hit the jackpot that year right after Christmas with a large bulk of used sets for $400. Ended up selling them for $2500 after splitting. At this point that $25 investment has turned into 30k (MSRP price, not current value) of sets sitting in my basement that didn't affect my normal household budget. To this day I still don't break that rule (have a separate account for investing). I've taken money out of the Lego fund for home remodeling and various other things... but still not spending anything outside of profit money for Lego sets. Keeps everything grounded, has saved me from many bad investments because money wasn't available in that account, and it takes away the wife's ability to complain about the purchases I make. Taken me 3 years to get to this point, but I couldn't choose a safer route here.

  9. There was an interesting thread thatI read on the seller forum the other day : Seller received an order for an expensive item that ended up shipping to a person whose name is different than the buyer ( most likely a dropshipper ) . Seller made the mistake of not getting signature confirmation and buyer end of opening an INR AZ claim . Seller was able to track the person to whom the item was shipped to and confirmed receipt and presented a written statement from said person to Amazon in his reply to the claim . Amazon still sided with the scammer and refunded from seller's pocket what a mess

  12. Another face palm A-Z case to report. I an Item sold FBM set $350 to a buyer. Shipping label shows the recipient is different than buyer. Alarms start going off. I research recipient and they are indeed owners of the home where is was being sent. Mind you they had quite a few payment issues in small claims court. I contact Amazon to alert them to a potential problem (Different names of Buyer and Recipient). While this does happen (drop shippers) I still felt nervous. I use USPS Priority with delivery conf, insurance and signature required. Set gets there and is signed for. Two days later I get a A-Z notice saying the set was fake. This particular set and all I have within my inventory were purchased directly from Amazon. Huh. One of the (14) I bought was heavily damaged so I opened it to verify contents. Yep All Lego in there. I used BA's methodology (thank you) to put together a concise point by point list defending myself. I won the case and was not debited any amount. Although I lost the amount of the return shipping. However even after all the detail I gave they still refunded the buyer. WTH! Amazon is only perpetuating the problem by doing this.

  13. https://legoideas.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/356076-license-conflicts-and-resolutions It's about time Lego drew a line in the sand about licensed property submissions. Far too many people have wasted their time just to get rejected. Additionally, those rejected licensed properties took up votes that other sets could have received. note: Why don't I see Jurassic Park / World listed? License Conflicts and Resolutions ← Project Guidelines Sometimes we have to turn down project submissions that refer to specific brands or licensed properties. We do this to avoid getting your hopes up for something we know we aren't able to make. In some cases, we already know that the LEGO Group can't secure licensing rights to produce construction toys based on a particular brand or property, due to a conflicting interest with a third party. More recently, we have also changed our guidelines to no longer accept projects based on third party licenses, which are currently produced or announced as official LEGO sets such as Star Wars, Super Heroes, Volkswagen and many more. For a full list of currently active licenses that we no longer accept please refer to the list below titled “Active Licenses.” This list will be updated on a rolling basis. If a known conflict goes away or a particular third party license is retired from the LEGO Group’s product portfolio, we'll then be able to accept projects based on a particular brand or license. In addition to the above, we no longer accept projects based on licenses that have been commercialized as official LEGO Ideas sets, even if the license is retired from the LEGO Group’s product portfolio. Please refer to the list “Restricted IP from LEGO Ideas” below. The Fine Print: If your project was previously turned down, archived, or deleted due to a licensing conflict that is now resolved or third party license that has been retired, you may re-submit it as a new project. 17. Another Joker Steamroller...only 42 left. In order to move this one I had to bundle it into a DC Superheroes bundle of four sets on eBay. Green Lantern, Sky High Battle, and Brainiac Attack were the other three sets. $135 shipped. Luckily my buy ins were low on the Sky High Battle ($15) and Green Lantern ($9), so I could protect some margin on the other two.

  18. I bought quite a few sets during the >50% clearance sales at Walmart last year, I've bought a bunch of new/open/used sets off CL that I've flipped for profit, I've found recently retired sets in out-of-the-way stores like Ghost & Phantom pairs, and I've bought full used collections off CL. For example, I bought 13 large, used Technic sets off an AFOL in October for $700 and sold them all before Xmas on BL for about $1,200. There's a guy in town that I've bought from a couple times who gets beat up sets from Amazon Warehouse, I believe, that he sells pretty cheap, I bought an open box, sealed bag Tumbler, a beat up, sealed GE, minty Avenger Tower, and minty Quinjet for $400, which I sold the Tumbler for $300 on CL, the GE for $290, the tower for like $50, and still have the Quinjet (surprise). I travel a lot, so when I'm on the road I check Wal Marts and CL where I'm staying. I also found a used Cafe Corner at a garage sale for $80, which helped a lot.

  19. I would, but I'm not a dog person. Dogs are basically felons with fur. Unlike cats, which are awesome, dogs 1) can't figure out how to poop in a hole and cover it up, and 2) chase cats up trees, a crime for which no punishment seems unreasonable.

  26. Built 75092 Naboo Starfighter (my first Naboo ship) tonight. I know everyone hates this set because its the 30th one and its basically identical to previous but for 50% off ($25), I thought it was one of the cooler cheap builds I've done when you figure in all of the minifigs + destroyer droids, fuel station, etc.

  27. I think it's complete BS that they don't allow every single attendee the chance to buy the exclusives. They should do a preorder months ahead of the show and make enough for each pre-registered attendee who wants to buy one. That way you can enjoy the convention instead of wasting hours standing in line or not even getting an opportunity to purchase something due to a lottery system. It's really absurd.

  30. To confirm that you actually had the item and aren't trying to scam them by adding it to an inbound shipment and then saying that they lost it when it is not received at the fulfillment center. I'm sure that there were some unscrupulous sellers out there who padded their profits by adding extra units to shipments and then requesting reimbursement when they didn't show up.

  31. What you're talking about is velocity. How fast the key pieces and even the supplementary pieces sell. Brickstock shows how many total quantity of each part and how many total lots sold in a month. I was looking at some pieces to see if there was a large number sold in the previous 6 months and seeing that more sold than what was showing as currently in stock. I tend to price at last 6 months by quantity as it is generally slightly cheaper than last 6 months. I feel like that puts it a little closer to where people shopping for bargains will see it. Plus it devalues the parts a little meaning that if you see 3x or more, you're getting a better value than 6 months.

  36. I don't even try to see the bigger events. We hang out on the show floor, autograph hall, and smaller panels. Much more to see outside the events, rather than standing in line for a panel, photo op, or autograph. I still ran into JJ Abrams, Anthony Daniels, Dave Filoni, and Ashley Eckstein last time without even trying. We learned clear back during CIII that you avoid certain events, but many other goers have a different idea of fun. Something for everybody, for sure.

  37. Sorry, been kind of MIA lately. Plate has been full. But I wanted to share how some sets are doing on BL these days. I flipped five Cindy Castles in one order for $60 each. Buy in $32 each. I sold three Speed Champs (899, 909, 910) for $30 each, buy in was around $11 each. An order for five IM vs Ultron at $10 each, buyin $5. And a shopping mall for $88, buy in $54. Tired of looking at them taking up all that space. Mystery machine for $40, buy in $20. Forgot I had listed one several months ago when they were selling in the high $20s. Dimensions starter pack, elements box for $35. Pure profit since I sold the super girl for $40 around Christmas. And another TC4 for $13 I am happy to announce that I sold my last Dimensions starter disc ($14.95) and platform ($20) on eBay this week out of about 14. Still have 10 of the element boxes left, but that's fine. I don't mind waiting if I can sell them for $35 a piece.

  41. Ok, one more time. Over the last year I have spent approximately $4k to purchase Lego sets for the purpose of selling them in a profitable manner. As of today, I have sold a portion of those sets that I bought. For the sets sold, I received money out of which I had to pay for shipping and sellers fees for sales on Bricklink. The money remaining after paying those fees was $4.2k. I now have completely recovered the amount of money I have spent on Lego sets and am left with $200 and all the unsold sets. The unsold sets have an approximate retail value of $3k. If the kid next door's millionaire granny went 6' under tomorrow and he offered to buy my remaining inventory for asking price I would have sold $7.2k worth of sets with a $4k investment leaving $3.2k of total profit. (PS this kid doesn't exist)

  45. Assuming its done (and it looks likely), I think this set needs to stand on its own. I do not see the Ninjago IP being a big booster of the set, and the movie may help clear inventory but likely wont have a big impact on the long term value. This set really does not fit the current Ninjago style, though we will have see what the new "exclusive", Nijago city set looks like. However I do think it can get some legs from the collector and AFOL crowd. I am fairly certain it is the best Oriental themed set ever produced, and is not likely to have much, if any competition in that area. That being said however, the larger Castle themed sets have not fared well recently (10223, 10193), but I would say this set is not really comparable to those...
