Don't forget all announcements here are not for killer investments. There are builders here that may just want to build the sets. A discount is still better than full price.8 points

A joke is funny the first time it's told, and if it's a really good joke also a second time. But a joke isn't funny any longer when it's repeated over and over and over again.7 points

And if sellers were actually getting the $879 FBA - the $499's on ebay would be long gone.6 points

It would make no sense whatsoever as retirements for many sets are usually so closely scheduled in both regions it is advantagous for the region that experiences the retirements after the other to be forewarned This post strikes me more as an effort at trying to shut down the everything-is-not-awesome banter that has developed as a result of LEGO's recent stratagies of ramping up production & prices and lazy remakes, which thwarts resellers' cozy plans. A prudish US cyber-wall to exclude outsiders in order to make Brickpicker great again, if you will. There is a clear difference between American and European culture in their sensitvity to negativity in general. A determination for everything to be able to turn out to be a winner if only steadfast super posititivey is employed isn't natural to the European psyche. A more blackish humour is the norm in general. The difference is usually very noticeable in comedy movies where the hapless main character suceeds with happy endings, whereas often the European movies the hapless protagonist remains in their hapless existence, serving as the butt of laughs. This aversion to anything smelling of a negative attitude is commonly observed on this site. Positive forecasts of future performance of sets based usually on nothing more than wishful thinking are deluged with 'likes' from US members, whereas ones speculating everything might not be so rosy rarely receive anywhere near the same plaudits, even when couched in wit. It's clear those 'bashing' LEGO love the product itself and the 'distasteful criticism' is merely ribald humour at LEGO's clear efforts to ignore AFOL's wishes and deliberate shift in policy to combat resellers. Appointing oneself as czar for what is and isn't good for the readers of this site is more distastful, IMO.6 points

if you believe in the power of LEGO and your own ability to sell , negative posts are meaningless and possibly helpful if they discourage future newb's from getting in da game. just grow an abs layer of skin and let the turds slide off your frictionless smooth coat. as others have pointed out, europe retirements have been quite useful for directing capital allocation. in retiring soon news, i am wondering if minecraft skin pack 1 might be on the way out - back ordered for a few days now with shipping by June 19. was hoping to get these on sale before EOL.6 points

I think that they have resolved the issue of the collectible minifigs being of noticeably lesser quality - by lowering the quality of the regular LEGO minifigs. The problem has been solved.5 points

I imagine you're one of a thousand calls. I expect their greeting to change, "... for English press 1, for Dimensions please hang up."4 points

like i said sir, you are one lucky fellow. A quick look at my 2016 spread sheet , 51 customer damaged items for that year , 60% of it is lego. nothing that cant be sold on ebay as sealed bags moslty beat up boxes or broken seals. gotta find me a lucky rabbit foot or something . and i do agree that clothing and electronics are best left alone.4 points

Whether the news is positive or negative, it is always good to hear both sides of the coin. Sometimes sets retire early on this side of the pond so it is advantages IMO to have one thread and vice versa.4 points

Having lived in Sacramento, that sounds about right, Then again, any 99c store probably has its share of "People of Walmart" types.3 points

I only hit 1 store this morning, but there was nothing new. There's less on the shelves than I've seen before, if that's any hint it's winding down. Again, only 1 store though. Storage is so maxed out already at my home, even the dozens of Dimensions I've found have no place to go. It makes me wonder what the storage space looks like for those of you that have scored in the thousands. Need some pics in the Collection/Stockroom Pics thread of you guys swimming in your Scrooge vault of fun packs.3 points

Darn, just as we were about to start a new bidding war, you replied! Err, I mean, congratulations! I hope you and your wife enjoy building the HQ. Seems like a great project to tackle together. Maybe even add a little siren sound and lights?3 points

Or just stick the label directly on the LEGO box3 points

Sorry everyone, I was the slow-to-respond winner for the GBHQ. I'm thrilled to have won and humbled that I was able to. As with any smart decision, I asked the wife which set to choose because I love building together with her. Life is always busy, but when we have time to build a set, we enjoy taking turns of one person building while the other pulls the pieces. Our last build was the Winter Holiday Train and she loves it. She knows how much I enjoy Ghostbusters, from watching the movies often to having the toys as a child (I had the Kenner HQ and figures but they were garage saled as a pre-teen, terrible decision), she agreed that would be the set to pick. Plus I added maybe we should get the Disney Castle down the road (since this will hopefully entice toward that). The HQ has been on the wishlist for a year now and this will be a wonderful build. Thank you again to Ed, Jeff, and everyone involved. I attended a parochial school growing up so I'm thankful to those who can help out. Please know that this set will have a good home and we'll post some photos once we get building!3 points

Yep, 50% off today, picked up a cart full. There were some Droid Escapes and SW Advents left, thankfully. City Prison Island showed up this week too. 60%+ off after using $10 off $50 coupons. The Catalina printers for the gas coupons were gone today.3 points

At this point, I'm starting to buy up fun packs with as much restraint as possible....but then I think....50 to 60 pieces here for 99 cents a pack with a minifigure to boot. Moc pieces and parting out alone just have me wanting more. Like others have said....I think we'll be wishing we bought more not less when this is all said and done. Just my 2 cents.3 points

The first picture of Old Fishing Store surfaced on reddit albeit in low quality. There are only small differences compared with the original idea. Also, at least 4 minifigures are included.2 points

With such different markets and interesting characters posting (I am looking at you val-e and tabby) would it make sense for a separate US retiring soon and a UK/Europe retiring soon thread? These posts seem less and less relevant to US brickpickers and many of the posts are negative in nature and bashing the Lego product. This site wants to promote the Lego brand in a positive way and having this distasteful criticism is not good for the readers or the site.2 points
