Past few weeks I've been dumping alot of sets for minimal profit / break even to free up space and capital, I bought alot of sets when I first started because i didnt do enough research and I thought getting a set at 20-30% off was a good deal. Some of the sets I also sold were ones which I bought way to early for minimal discount and they have not retired yet, I don't see point keeping capital tied up in sets that i can get cheaper now and will probably have another year to go. I will definitely not be buying sets now unless I know they are retiring soon, it's alot easier to miss afew deals than having to hold sets for 1-2 years as it wont retire. Also going forward Ive decided I'm no longer investing in Exclusives/ big sets as it just isn't for me. They take up too much space / cost more / need more boxes and packing items etc. I rather buy 5 small / medium sets than 1 big / exclusive. This plan isn't for everyone, but I've found out over past few months I rather make less money but have more space / cash available etc. Exception to this are definite winners i.e. Indominus Rex / Mystery Mansion. The reality now is that all sets are hoarded so you csnt just buy random sets and you have to limit yourself to a limited amount of "winner" sets each year and buy them only (only deviating from this when there is an insane price deal available or a random retiree / hot set appearing). It always seems good to buy a "bargain" set at 50-60% off, but when it comes time to sell you realise that even though you bought at very good discount, either demand isnt there or theres too much supply as other resellers bought at low proce aswell and it is a race to the bottom selling off the set to get rid of deadwood. I've learnt the hard way, but its also a blessing in disguise as it's still early days for me and i know now what to do right going forward (or so i think i do...)12 points

You make some solid points @TabbyBoy, but I thought you told us all a couple months ago that you had liquidated your entire LEGO holdings except for a few sets? I seem to recall you saying you were completely out of the LEGO game. How do you now still have "thousands of sets to clear" ?6 points

The best way to get Dr. Who, BTTF, or JW in any meaningful quantity (1000+) was to contact the store manager before the shipment even got to the store and offer to buy the entire pallet. That method is virtually closed now, so your best bet now is to swoop from the shelf, which is getting very hard to do, or ask the manager to bring out a box from the stockroom, if they even have it anymore.5 points

Such a drama queen, it's not that hard. Wasn't rocket science at the end of last year to invest in Jurrasic World, Scooby, Wall-E, Trevi Fountain for example. Hope I didn't offend you by calling you a drama queen, I'd call you a smartarse, but I know how offensive that can be5 points

Yep, its best not to get in over your head which is hard to do when you first start because you are excited and want to make money with a toy product you love. Everyone was right about selling.......its WAY HARDER than buying. Everyone has their strategy and what works for them. Glad you found a way that works for you.5 points

The Homer level pack at the going rate on Amazon FBA is selling 3-400 per day. The sales rank for this at the moment is 46. Similar with Portal and Scooby. The lowballers should be cleared out in a few weeks or so, and profit margins should increase accordingly. Of course, if 99 only store keeps pumping these level packs out in the next month, then that won't happen . . .4 points

I have been selling these in lots of 20 or more, so we agree there. But, I think in 6 -9 months most of us will be wishing we had more of these. Demand for a particular item is greater at a lower price than at a higher price. The fact that demand was much lower than anticipated at a price point of 11.99, doesn't mean there isn't sufficient demand to completely wipe out the supply if the price point is $5 each. I am staying away from the Chima packs of course, but I can't imagine there is going to be much of a bag to hold if you're buying packs like LOTR, Lego Movie, Ninjago, etc.4 points

I'm with you mate. Pretty much my exact feelings. I've started dumping some sets for minimal profit too. Seems as if the way forward is just buying certain retiring soon sets at a good discount, or grabbing crazy offers when they appear once in a blue moon and flipping them. Seems little point in grabbing a modular or large SW set or something now at large expense and holding and hoping to make minimal gains relatively over a longer time. Even if you do, too many people will be storing them away anyway. Plus the potential stress if you want to post large sets and the hassle that can potentially bring. I've learned a lot too over the last 12 months or so. I've still made a few quid and I think I've got some winners left in reserve, but the strategy is now completely different to the one I had even 6 months ago.4 points

Well I have to pour some water over the fire here. That's obviously not me, posting own selfie on "Investor" oriented forum would be like loosing a Russian Roulette with first try. Guy from reddit posted his picture on /r/Lego as his new work placement. Just spotted VW so decided to post it here since its been published within fairly open forum/community. So as far as I see availability of this set... Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Romania has it, I have absolutely no idea why Lego have decided to distribute those sets there completely skipping vast, broad markets in the europe such as Germany, UK, France... asked today at Lego Brad Store about this Mini. - Well Sir, with all respect, we have absolutely no idea what are you talking about. so no one knows nothing.3 points

I haven't shipped any yet, but have been strategizing. Four Fun Packs, in the original case stays under a pound, so you can still ship USPS First Class. I'm in agreement that selling individuals won't be the best strategy any time soon.3 points

People are acting like it is the end of the world. I posted just to let them know that it seems to be an issue at most of the stores, but people are really laying it on thick talking about how it ruined their days, etc.. Some people said they drive like an hour to get there for it.2 points

If I had any 99cents stores in FL I would have bought all the packs. Open them and just sell them as opened (keep them in the sealed bags) and just ship them in a padded envelope. Shipping would still be like 2.XX so would need to sell them for 5 to make any profit. Or do as people mentioned a value pack of 4 for like 15 or something. That would make more sense and less work.2 points

TLG ordering cancelling protocol (note 1) If the 5 sets are from turding themes (ninjago, nexo, friends, city, elves etc) then reseller scum = valued customer and order is good to go. It will be shipped in record time to avoid buyer remorse.2 points
