Finally picked up a 10143 Death Star (sealed boxes / bags - opened box). Been wanting the set since 2014 but never pulled the trigger. Wish I would have then. Would have saved some coin ($500). Just need to figure out if / when i will be building it.17 points

Kids and I had been "good busy" the past week. Personally, I've been so busy with the biz side of the Lego hobby & regular work that it felt good to build something. It's been months... 10198 Tantive IV (only missing Capt. Antilles. I've built a 10198 before but ending up flipping it 2 years ago) 75150 Vader's TIE Advanced vs. A-wing Starfighter 9495 Gold Leader's Y-wing Starfighter (originally built it 3 years ago. Then tore it done).7 points

Since my kids only worked on about 20% of each of these, I'm taking credit. 41067 Belle's Enchanted Castle 76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle6 points

I think the lego batman movie sets will far outsell and out perform the Lego Movie sets. My opinion, strictly, but I already see the "collect em' all" strategy here and it's brilliantly well orchestrated. I really didn't feel the "collect them all" with the Lego Movie line, but here the way this is setup it's hard not to want all of these. First, all the main villian characters have a variety of vehicle sets - all of them look great. Killer Croc, Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler, and Scarecrow come with a vehicle, and all of them are quirky and interesting. I especially like the Killer Croc vehicle, and the Penguins. Overall, the entire vehicle lineup is well done. Next up, you have a mini-playset if you buy 3 sets. Reminds me of the DolGuldur set from the hobbit a few years back. You get Joker, Mr Freeze, and Scarecrow part 1 in this one. You'll need the walmart exclusive to have the set. Then it's slated for a Two-face vehicle, Bane vehicle, Scarecrow copter, Haley Quinn will also have her own vehicle in a set.. Add in the clayface figure, and overall I give this entire lineup a big solid A++++. To me, this theme reinvigurates Lego. Yes, batman has been done before, yes many of these minis are in other batman oriented lines, but this lineup for this movie is just fun and I can see a lot of kids wanting all of these. I personally, will buck up and buy the theme. I haven't really bought many batman sets over the year, but this is definitely on my radar. I also think the collectible minifigure lineup is a+ too.3 points

Love this idea. Disney minifigs and 70900 Joker Balloon Escape And yes JBE would make a great addition to a fairground, even without the Mickey heads.3 points

There's alot of stories in this forum about getting lego on clearance but that is mainly in USA. In UK it's alot rarer to pickup sets in clearance as most places only do that if: -store is having a closing down sale -boxing day / new years sale -random wild goose chase reported on HUKD -rare instore miss price I've personally stopped shopping instore. Only time I go instore to buy now is when a set is close to retirement / rumour of set being a winner. Even then most of the time it's easier to get online. In UK the way forward is to come up with a list of winners, and purchase when 3 for 2 sales start. Or to pickup sets that workout to be >60% off in 3 for 2 sales. This is a simplified strategy buthope.you get my drift. I've wasted many hours of my life driving around shops hoping to pickup a deal and coming home empty handed, never again. If you add up all the time you spent driving around to shops buying etc, it's not worth it. Sure you might get a bargain, but that will be and exception and not the normal. My 2 cents.2 points

Today is the last day to use the $5 off $25 / $10 off $50 coupon at Shopko. It stacks with sale and clearance prices. I've been stocking up on Airport Passenger Terminals. They are on sale for $70. The coupon brings them down to $60, which is 40% off. I stopped at 20.2 points

It was readily available for 50€. The only inconvenience was that you had to buy a Death Star as well.2 points

Apparently the Euro currency is retiring soon according to some cut & paste image from 7 years ago.2 points

There's a really good explanation for that. In The Netherlands, unlike in most other countries, we can subtract the interest paid on our mortgage from our income tax. Which in turn causes the housing prices to be exorbitant, compared to our neighbours. The debt shown above is mainly caused by mortgage loans covered by the housing property itself. It's not consumer debt where people buy stuff they can't afford based on installments. So it looks worse than it actually is.2 points

@donbee Thank you for sharing. I think Brickpicker offers a great community to share sorrows and triumphs. Because of this business, I frequently find myself in a position of rage with no sympathetic ear or glory with no one to share it with.2 points

We already have this for sports cards and comics. I suppose other items are next. They will just network with the guy from Pawn starts and use all of his contacts to authenticate items2 points

Playsets are almost always investment "turds". Just look at the performance of 75052, which included a ridiculous number of unique minifigs, Luke's landspeeder, and some sort of giant green lizard, but still barely made it 50% over MSRP after a year. 75093 pales in comparison. Gray and ugly, with no vehicles and few minifigs. I would have bought at $30.2 points

And then there's this: I am however pleased to offer my Dutch buyers retired MISB lego sets on credit. Interest rates are competitive, but payment is accepted in dollars only. I don't want to be left holding the bag when the euro is "retired" in the near future.2 points

If you can swing it, ordering in quantity lessens the chances of you receiving your sets in a bag. Whenever I order battle packs or $20-$30 sets, I order at least 3 at a time. If you order 1 or 2, you're guaranteed a set that looks like it was smashed by the Hulk. Larger sets are less of a worry but I rarely get pristine boxes on anything that I order from Kmart. I'm fairly certain the overeager shipping clerk fist bumps every set upon packing.2 points

So I built a UCS 10212 Shuttle last week and had to quickly stash it away from the meddling hands of kids. I set on our bedroom dresser and left it there for the evening. Later on, after the meddling kids were gone I assured the wife that the lego would not be in our bedroom. We have established rules in our home where displayed lego is acceptable and the bedroom is no such place. Well, I was about to move it and she actually said it looked ok and to leave it where it was (for a bit). Now I know that you all don't know... but trust me when I say WOW! Now talk about a CEO/credenza test. This set is a winner! Happy Friday all!!! GO PACK GO!!!2 points

You are almost certain to lose the claim that way .. I understand your frustration but your goal is to keep emotions out of it and win the claim . Good luck though1 point

I didn't read all the posts but if shipping was purchased via Amazon u will need to quote that policy and hope for the best as Amazon doesn't always adhere to this rule . It seems that ur items was purchased by a dropshipper and they are blaming you for the mishap when their customer complained to them . Golden rule of thumb until Amazon is fully compliant with their shipping purchase rule : if you can't afford to lose the sale , add signture confirmation . ( it might leave u open to negative feedback if customer misses delivery )1 point

The best solution (most effective and by far quickest) was to purchase a dry-erase marker. Preferably a black one. Colour all over top of the existing sharpie markings... wait a few seconds for the dry erase to dry, then wipe it all off like magic. You mentioned slopes though.... I know many slopes have a very mild texturing to them.... I have never tested the dry erase method on these.... It might not work the same since the ink could get into the micro valleys on the texture. Excellent for any glossy flat surfaces though.1 point

The original 10179 was definitely a "dog" at retail. And from a resale standpoint it was viewed initially as a failure as well. No one wanted to store it. It was all grey bricks. And there was no precedent at the time. As someone who was buying and selling Lego's on the secondary market when this came out, no one wanted to buy it. The highest selling set at the time of it's release was the original UCS X-wing and it was going for around $600 New in Box. So no one thought that a $500 dollar set would ever soar. I didn't. I bought Clone Turbo Tanks, UCS Y-Wings, UCS Snow Speeders, RGS, etc. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES was I going to store a box that big, with the hope that someone would be willing to even pay $750 for it. The vast majority of it's lifespan it was discounted to $400 just to get them off the shelf. I will argue against the idea that the primary buyers of the a new one, are the people who already own it. The market for a $5000 dollar collectible versus a $500 dollar collectible IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. There are a TON of people out there willing to pay $500 for something, but REFUSE to pay the secondary market price for an item. Almost NO parent will buy a $5,000 dollar toy for their kid, but there are MANY that will definitely spend $500 for a christmas or birthday present. When 10179 was released the first time, the Lego market was nothing like what it is today. Back then there was a tiny AFOL market, and even less reseller's. Today there is a HUGE AFOL market, and even more reseller's. If they were to release 10179, while many reseller's like us would avoid it for a long time, if not avoid it all together, there is a HUGE market of people who would want a 10179 not to resell, but to actually build and own. Would the sales be "off the hook?" Not too likely at $500, but they would definitely be healthy enough in the current Lego market to sustain sales for many years to come.1 point

Stock-roomed my remaining stock of this when everyone started scrambling for it. A few people got lucky) Shadow Troopers x1 $10.98 ($9.90 BI :/) $300 worth of assorted collectable minifigures. I know the returns aren't as amazing as what some of you get, but with limited space I am quite happy with the results (My main selling point is pricing below RRP on a lot of my inventory. Buyers save money, I make money. Win win.). My personal savings account finally reached a major goal last week, my backroom of long term holds is almost full, and new orders keep pouring in. Saving up for the huge clearance bonanza post Christmas and only ordering from Kmart on already purchased giftcards (Which should be depositing 50K SYW points after Christmas). Yippie!1 point
