12 Airport Passenger Terminals from Shopko for $60 /each (40% off). 5 Sky High Battles for $15 /each (75% off) at WalMart. These are most likely a one off since they were the only WalMart in my area that showed that price in the app. I've been avoiding SH sets as of late, but at 75% off I'll take a chance on these. These might also be my first attempt at parting out, since the Wonder Woman fig seems to sell on eBay for about what I paid for the whole set.7 points

It will go up some and then flat-line for a long time, like most of the exclusives of the last 3 years. The data posted on the forums is showing it. It may even go up and then drop back down like many of the $150-300 exclusives of the last 3 years. You have to ask yourself, is it worth making $50 at the end of the day or possibly less, and competing against 50-100 other listings at any one time for that one or two buyers every other week? Just because an item is selling at $100 above what you paid and it looks like a profitable venture doesn't mean it is. You have selling fees, shipping fees, then what is your original buy in, and how long will you have to hold, and how difficult will it be to sell. The sandcrawler sold tons and will undoubtedly have tons of sellers looking to offload these in the next year. You may have to wait a year just to make $50 or less after all is said and done, if you're lucky. What if when you go to sell in say 4-5 years another bigtime seller from this site decides to also, then you end up in an undercutting war fighting over 1-2 buyers who are even interested at a $150-200 value above what you paid, so it's like pulling teeth for each sale and even getting rid of 5 could take a few months and cause alot of stress.7 points

And I have proof this one was still showing as Sold Out 3 hours ago (used a screenshot on bricks.stackexchange.com to answer a question there), now shows retired, so these Retired tags are brand new: EDIT: All Scooby Doo is retired (75901-75904), except 75900 (Mummy Museum Mystery) - still available for sale. Expect 50-75% off on that one soon.6 points

Sad, but true, many Corporations apply this strategy. Only ones making out are the Corporate officers. Creative accounting to hit target numbers, get bonus and fleece the investors. And we keep talking about how unscrupulous other countries are.5 points

My first ban! I feel all grown up now. Finally got the TRU online ban as well. Verified with a distinctly non-LEGO purchase attempt. Testing the fence for weaknesses now. Must have been due to me returning the security spider wraps to the store. BTW, here's how that conversation went: Me: "I'm returning this set because all the seals are popped and secured with scotch tape that didn't even stay shut through shipping." Local CS: "I doubt that. We're not supposed to ship out items that have been returned. It's against corporate policy. Our store would never do that!" Me: "Well, this set is being returned because it's the wrong item. I was shipped a LEGO set that's not even due to hit the shelves until Jan 1st, but I guess because they figured it cost as much as Livi's house, that they could substitute it. And since it isn't Jan 1st yet, I couldn't possibly be pulling anything." Local CS: "I'm not sure how we're supposed to process that since it isn't the same item. I guess I'll scan the one that's opened." Me: "And while I've got you, I was shipped three sets with spider wraps on them. I destroyed one of the wraps trying to get it off, but I have the other two in my truck if you want them back." Local CS: "Now I believe that. You can bring them in. We wouldn't do that. I know because my husband handles the online orders for our store." Me: "If I bring them in, it's going to set off the alarms, and if they are the triple-alarm types, which I believe they are, they have their own alarms that will sound and you won't be able to turn them off easily. How about you send one of your lost prevention folks out with me so they can deal with them." Later after I complete my purchase and have one of the LP people come out with me and hand them the spiders, "Ooohh! These are new models. We don't have any of these!" I really hope TRU goes public again. I need to buy some put options and quick flip their stock5 points

Greetings fellow block heads and firstly many thanks to you all for contributing to what is without doubt the friendliest forum I've ever lurked on. As somebody who has tended to exclusively surf on football forums (soccer for those in the states) with their overt and constant tribalism this place has been an absolute breath of fresh air and a real pleasure to read. I've been in the background for the last year and am one of those posters some of you have referenced on here in frustration, you know, the non-posting members who you fear snaffle all your hot tips without giving back. Why? Well, I originally joined this place simply in order to learn more about older themes and building techniques so I could help out my kids and nieces with their building passion. I never expected to get so interested in the bricks myself! You'll be delighted to learn I'm not here as a budding investor and won't be stepping on your toes in that area. Yes I have a number of unopened sets boxed up in the spare room but that's because I've gotten tired of Lego retiring sets before I get around to buying them so my policy these days is "buy it if you like it and build it when you can". (though of course if any of these rocket in value before I have the chance to build them.....) (... then I'll still build them!). Personally I'm a huge fan of the large creator expert sets, it astounds me how clever these are and what an absolute pleasure they are to build. Simultaneously challenging and relaxing (being a near middle age adult perhaps I shouldn't be admitting to the challenging part!). There's not much more I enjoy in an evening then putting a game on the TV and settling in for a building session. The Fairground Mixer is a particular favourite, I've had that one on display for the last half year and it still brings a smile to my face. I've become a regular visitor to the daily deals thread (huge thanks to the frequent contributors in those) as despite scanning Hot Deals UK for a couple of years I always seemed to miss the best ones on there. Dropping in on the daily threads I know why! You guys are seriously on the ball here and have helped me pick up several nice deals (don't panic, never more than a single copy of a set!) so again, many thanks to you all for your postings in this area. I've decided to finally post on the one hand to repeatedly thank all of youse and on the other to selfishly ask for some advice. My family and I are huge fans of all sets with action features such as exploding walls, trapdoors, falling blocks etc. The kids just love combining these sets into enormous adventures and though we have a decent collection of sets I'm struggling to find a good list of these across multiple themes. To give a few specific examples we've already gotten copies of and love the following sets: Indiana Jones - Temple of the Crystal Skull, 7627; Temple Escape, 7623; The Lost Tomb, 7621 Prince of Persia - Quest Against Time, 7572 Monster Fighters - Vampyre Castle, 9468 Lone Ranger (seriously!) - Silver Mine Shootout, 79110 Pharaoh's Quest - Scorpion Pyramid, 7327 Marvel - Attack on Avengers Tower, 76038; Jokerland, 76035 Disney Princess - far too many to mention! I'm aware there's a number of superhero sets out there that fit the bill and we do have various others in this theme but I was wondering is there a thread on this forum that vaguely covers this area? Some kind of "Best Action Feature Sets" or similar (both retired and current)? I've explored many of the nooks and crannies on here but am yet to encounter such a catch-all thread. Failing that are there any knowledgeable posters on here with some free time and thoughts to share? I'd greatly appreciate any input. I wasn't sure where to put this question and given I've learnt the protocol on here is to start a thread when you join I figured I might as well go for two birds with the one stone (albeit a year or so late!). I've never been the most loquacious with online communication (I spend all day at work on computers and try to avoid them in my free time) but given the vast amount I've absorbed from this forum I definitely owe something in return and will endeavor to contribute going forward. I'm not sure I'll be able to add much outside of enthusiasm and exuberance for all things Lego but I'll do my best! Many thanks for your time and I look forward to hot brick discussion going forward. Cheers, Jack.4 points

Here is the final project with most of the star wars family that I have currently. I feel pretty good about the top 3 rows with how I put the mini-figures in there. I can fit, if I squeeze them, at least 105 minifigures in here (21 per row). I don't think I'll be doing that though as it would look very tight. The 3rd row has 17 in it while the top 2 have 11. I'm trying to keep set guys next to each other which is primarily row 3 at this time. Hope you like it. I plan on making another one, when I get some time as I really enjoyed putting this together and love the results of it. My wife is even impressed with how exact the rows were with the plates put in. The bottom area I'm not sure if I like or not, but wanted somewhere smaller to lay in the excess guns, helmets, etc... or just leave it empty. It's not perfect but it sure as hell does the job and will look great on the wall. The pictures don't do enough justice to the depth you can see by having the 4 stud deep plates in there. another with glare on the top from flash4 points

I think they have a corporate strategy to sucker in the suckers the days before Christmas who have no other choice, but to buy at exorbitant prices. After Christmas, they take a month to soak up as many gift card suckers as they can who don't want to wait out a deal, or again, don't know any better. Shoppers are smarter now though, for the most part.3 points

I still believe the SW UCS sets are good hold and forget them for 3-5 year investments (remakes like 75159 are unlikely for most sets). but you can make more money flipping the small stuff in 0-2 years. so really just a question of your strategy and how you balance your time vs income.3 points

The Lighthouse My story For this modular (creator) building was that the The Lighthouse is based for a creation to fit in the Sea front Village. I built this one on Lego Digital Designer (LDD). I really believe that this model could have a lot of genuine interest for fans of my Sea front Village sets. This is the fifth building that I will be submitting. Summary A lighthouse is a tower, building, or other type of structure designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses, and to serve as a navigational aid for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways. Lighthouses mark dangerous coastlines, hazardous shoals, reefs, and safe entries to harbors, and can assist in aerial navigation. Once widely used, the number of operational lighthouses has declined due to the expense of maintenance and use of electronic navigational systems. On a clear day you can see forever.. How often can you see a light house? Popular with tourists, get in early and enjoy the ambiance.. A short walk from the Lighthouse there is an Old Fishing Store down the road, which has bait and tackle. Or go around the lighthouse and enjoy a magnificent view. The Lighthouse is under some construction and is also getting painted. The following is a list of the Lighthouse items: Minifig: Carpenter, Fisherman, Painters and Lighthouse manager. Sealife: Crabs, Starfish, Sea grass, Seagull, And more Boat: Rowing boat The building consists of roughly 2380 parts and a boat, office, bedroom, kitchen, deck with a porch and outhouse, light room, storage room between the cliff. I used the colors sand blue and white glow, reddish brown for the building that gives it a realistic feeling. The roofs I used the color dark stone grey and reddish brown. The roof just sits on a couple of studs so it’s easy to take of and put on. If you like this design or the idea of the The Lighthouse – Modular (Creator) Building thanks for reading and Brick On everyone ! https://ideas.lego.com/projects/1638362 points

i don't sell on eBay, its very typical that some sellers use shipping as part of their item price. [ lower item cost higher shipping ] i would think that once you agree to what what there and paid for it. it would be expected of one to swallow it and digest. there is no point in throwing up or trying to bully the seller because the shipping cost has some build in layers. if one doesn't agree to terms don't purchase walk away.2 points
-
Why surprised about these retirements? The Lego group have showed you exactly what was retiring over the last couple of months by doing it first in Europe. What would be interesting and surprising would be if any decent sets that weren't already marked as retiring already in Europe had been retired in the US. We don't have the luxury of that in Europe though unfortunately.2 points

I agree with this. I have a MISB 10179 and a used one. Am I invested in this set, sure, but I really don't plan on selling it (like in ever), so I can try to be honest with my appraisal of the situation. The LEGO Group has to realize there is a point where the vast majority of regular people just will not pay $600.00 or more for a new LEGO set to make it a profitable release. Everybody likes to say LEGO sets are for kids, but honestly ask yourself, how many kids (or their parents) can afford a $600.00 LEGO set? A $600.00 LEGO set to LEGO has way more negatives attached to it, than positives in my opinion. The LEGO Group's profits are not as strong as they were and they might be less likely to produce another massive set like the 10179. Could they? Yes, for sure, but things are changing. The primary and secondary LEGO markets are weakening, so would LEGO invest so much in a risky behemoth of a set? I say it is getting less likely all the time. Maybe LEGO wants to make a statement and release an uber UCS Falcon, but they certainly under-impressed with the 10188 replacement. The 75159 is the test case for LEGO and if it sells, then maybe the uber UCS Falcon is coming. If the 75159 doesn't sell, well I would look to a smaller UCS Falcon that costs around $400.00. A lot of people say investors have little effect on the market, that regular LEGO fans drive the market. Well, are there enough regular LEGO fans out there to make an $600.00 uber UCS Falcon profitable? The old UCS Snowspeeder is hard to improve. Time for LEGO to build UCS sets that are based on new ideas, not previously done sets.2 points

Built a used 10212 UCS Imperial Shuttle that I picked up for $230 with shipping a couple weeks ago. What an impressive set. I knew it was a large set but it always seems bigger when it sits in the dining room table. Had all minifigs no box no instructions. I can cross this set off my list.2 points

The lousy pricing is great news. The last thing we want when trying to sell retired sets for 2 x MSRP is new sets that are $.05 per piece or something. I'd be thrilled if the new Death Star were MSRP $599.2 points
