  1. Stumbled across this at TRU when we were there for the free Nexo Knights build. 75157 - Captain Rex's AT-TE (Beat up, but complete) - $26.91 after TRUST. Now I can sell my builder I have set aside. The Architecture sets are from the 20% off sale at BAM.

  2. Built Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! (70816) today and it goes nicely with my Galaxy Explorer (497) and Space Cruiser (487). It was great to see how Lego kept the LL numbers in relative sequence - Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! = LL929, Galaxy Explorer = LL928 and Space Cruiser = LL924. As you can see I love the Lego space series! I managed to create own MOC on the crater plate with the campfire. And yes, the antenna on the Galaxy Explorer set is intact and not broken at all!

  6. I'm also sceptic about the whole Lego Again thing. TLG's business model is based around mass production. The rumors said something about being able to buy any retired set you want and you'd get it in 30 days. There's no way they can make that cost efficiently. I can however, see something similar to the Lego Ideas concept, where you can vote on sets that need to be re-released. Every set that gets 10000 votes would be considered by Lego and then possibly be re-released. That way they would have control over the whole thing and could sort of minimize cannibalism. This scenario would be a disaster for anyone going all-in on sets.

  8. Mystery Machine has been sold out at target now online for a few days where it was going for $22.99. supply is drying up nicely on this one with walmart also out of stock for shipping. rather then giving us more Scooby, I am hoping we get some more Hanna Barbera sets like Flintstones or Jetsons for starters.

  14. This is going to be gold. I finally sold all my Fire Bikes for a solid $2 profit per set (you know, 'cause cost was $0) after shipping, fees, etc. so I'm psyched to replace them with something equally awesome.

  17. This year alone, Lego had 808 different offerings, according to brickset. In 2009 for example, that number was in the 400s. Lego now produces double the output, and I think it's OVERKILL! I welcome them retiring over 600 sets, and only producing about 500 some different offerings over the next few years. There were so many sets they made recently that were unnecessary. I know that i've been writing my "wishlist for lego business practices" on multiple sites including this one, hoping that maybe some exec reads these forums, and that me harping that they need to produce about 1/3rd of the number of sets, and then produce better quality sets with a better stock of minis is maybe just maybe hitting home. The last two years have been just average in my opinion when compared to previous years. I know a lot more that agree with me. I welcome a mass retirement, and a pairing down in production, but an upscale in quality. Let's hope so.

  18. Yeah, but the point is they can do it for one set but not for all sets. The appeal for Town Hall is partly because of the fact that it's no longer available. Why would I buy Parisian Restaurant when I can get it at any time? There's the initial appeal of a set where it's new and people want it NOW and they are willing to pay RRP or more, but after that there's no rush. TLG is interested in selling their new products first and foremost. They want to increase sales or at the very least keep them steady. If they made every set available just like that you'd just end up with an ever growing catalog of products and people would buy more and more different products. This is not what TLG wants. They want that as many people as possible buy the same product. That way they can maximize profits with mass producing the sets. They'd rather have 1000 people buying Parisian Restaurant than 100 Palace Cinemas, 200 Pet Shops, 200 Parisian Restaurants, 200 Detective Offices and 300 Brick Banks.

  19. Regarding the Lego Again rumors, I just don't see how they can pull it off. It would be some feat to be able to change production between hundreds of sets on the fly like that. Shortened lifespans on Lego's regular sets has been apparent starting from last year (Ant-Man, Ultra Agents, Raptor Escape). I just think that Lego has so many sets coming down the pipeline that keeping an inventory of hundreds of sets doesn't make sense for them anymore. If it's a stinker, get rid of it. Why keep a set around for two years if it only starts selling again when it's cleared out or slapped with a retiring soon label? I think they've discovered that pumping out wave after wave of sets, with each one creating a spike in demand, is the better strategy for them.

  20. Found sand plates, 10699, at a local target at $2.38, msrp $7.99. no other target around me has them at that price though. Confirmed through target inventory tracker. Snagged the whole box of reindeer too. 30 in the shipper.

  28. You could always make your own base plate. I'm not talking spray painting one. You could use the MILS technique to make a raised base plate. That allows you to use whatever base color you have available and then use white plates for the "top" which becomes the base on which you have the rest of your LEGO.

  33. People should just calm down. Doubt there is anything to worry about in terms of Lego being in trouble. They are simply doing what most successful companies do, which is to review their business, looking at margins and cutting things that don't don't hit a minimum margin threshold. Business school 101. Reducing the number of products they sell reduces costs across the entire Lego value chain, from r&d, marketing, sales, factory factory production cost etc. and focus on core products. Basically what Steve jobs did when he returned to Apple. What potentially is a concern for resellers is that by cutting 300 sets and replacing them with fewer sets is that they will have capacity to make more of the sets they keep.

  35. I don't think this list is vastly different than the amount of sets that have retired in the past--but in the past they don't label all of them. Maybe it's just a new policy, label all the retiring sets. Seems a simpler explanation that all the conspiracy/foil hat stuff. Occam's razor, y'know.

  36. Maybe hostile was not the right word. With hostile I meant a take-over by the competition. Like Mattel or maybe even Disney. But it is quite logical that if they sell the company they want to show high sales. So the more they are gonna get. Maybe Lepin made them an offer they couldn't refuse?

  37. There are no "weird" sets in the list. It´s all either old stuff or turds. Rationalisation.

  38. Have we ever seen such amounts of sets retiring? There is something fishy. Also the sales that happened lately (mainly in the UK). As a financial expert I hear the alarm-bells ringing. Sales must have been really bad this year. Or a hostile take-over is in the works?
