Short story: I bought one Yellow Submarine with the Toy Soldier Ornament (to sell off) Long story: My wife was going to the mall today with our 1 month old to do some clothes shopping so I asked her to pick up a Yellow Submarine for me with my VIP points (seemed as good a time as any to use them up). I sent her a text pic of the Yellow Submarine set and a pic of my account with the VIP # in big numbers to make it easy for her to pass the info along to the cashier (my e-mail is too cumbersome as I have a very long last name, so I try to simplify it by using the VIP #). I explained to her that I have over $70 in VIP points and so she won't have to pay anything out of pocket. I then get a phone call in the middle of the day, with my irritated wife saying "They're telling me I have to pay $15.00. You don't have enough points and I need to go nurse our daughter. What should I do?" So I told her to just pay whatever they want and I'll sort it out tonight. I get home, look over the receipt, and realize that they messed up one number in my VIP account (a 4 instead of a 7). Someone named Elijah. I feel awful because I picture a little 7 year old who was saving up his VIP points for something very special and now they're all gone because the cashier messed up 1 number. I ended up calling Lego customer service and they were able to take the points out of my VIP account and credit it back to Elijah. Looks like it's all settled now and the appropriate amount of points were removed from my account. Peace and love, peace and love.16 points

Not sure if you guys are into this sort of thing. I always keep a hefty stock of candy on-hand in my office for my engineers and technicians, so I stocked up yesterday at Wal-Mart at 50% off. Well, today, KMart.com has a bunch of assorted 50-100-200 piece Halloween bags for pick-up and some for shipping at 50% off plus 100% back in points. Here is a link to several that are marked clearance. http://www.kmart.com/food-grocery-gum-candy/b-26396?offer=Clearance&filterList=offer5 points

A good ending, well done! The story would have been much better if the points were accidentally taken from an account owned by Timmy though.5 points

Reminds me of the old story of the Navy and Army guy in a latrine together... Soldier walks out without washing. Sailor says "In the Navy, they teach us to wash our hands." Soldier replies "In the Army, they teach us not to piss on our hands."4 points

Kmart is simply trying to get you to spend money in their stores. They already know they are going to take a loss on out of season candy, so why not make y'all come back within 14 days? I've started to slow down my spending at SYW, they keep sending me $10 back in points coupons, but the threshold gets bigger and bigger. That's how they get you hooked. I have noticed an intresting trend however, if your getting lousy SP offers or coupons, try letting them expire or simply don't load them to your account. This seems to trigger something in their system, and you probably will get a better offer next time. (Eg, I let a $4 off $35 and a $7 off $70 expire without even clicking on the email, yesterday I got an $8.00 off $30 and a $10 back on $20 coupon) SYW is a great rewards program, but you gotta play the game so to speak. Just my thoughts, I know some of you veteran SYWers probably know this already.4 points

Built it last night. It's awesome. Regardless of the investment opportunity, this set is fantastic. The build was fun, not repetitive, and the end result is pretty spectacular. I ended up getting 2 at the lego store. I got the Christmas promo set and two ornaments...if I can sell those for $30 total it will put my buy in around $45 each which for me as my own build and for the other for pops for the holiday's I'm good on that...it really is a cool set. I will post some pics later when I can shoot em4 points

Say what you will, but I'm pretty psyched about Pet Shop retiring. I have so many plans for that 12 square feet of primo floor space. It's like discovering a whole new secret room in your house. Ok, more like a secret closet. Still, I can't wait 'till the end of 2018 when I have these all sold off, have finally broken even on a 2014-15 investment, and can finally see the actual floorboards again...3 points

Hi guys, here is a little MOC I put together. IMG_20161014_164521 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr I had a few spare bits lying around and had recently acquired a Tauntaun so I thought I would put it to good use! DSC_1899 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr DSC_1942 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr I wanted to make this as movie accurate as possible so that is why the colour palette on this build is more grey, to reflect the night time setting of the scene, rather than the traditional tan colours of Jabba's Palace. I should point out the gungan head isnt movie accurate but I put that in for a bit of fun! IMG_20161014_192613 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr However I did also build a tan version using parts from the Jabba's Palace and Mos Eisley official sets. IMG_20161009_221534 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr Which do you prefer, tan or grey? Hope you enjoy and as always any feedback, advice or suggestions for new MOCs are always welcome!3 points

Sold 41008 Friends HeartLake City Swimming Pool for $65+shipping on Amazon FBM. Had it up for higher but saw that it was going for $50 on EBay, but $78 FBA. As the curtain closes for me for holiday selling at Amazon at the end of this week, and I'll be out of the market until after Christmas or when they lift the FBA curfew, I figured I'd take my gains now and listed as the lowest FBM two days ago. Buy-in was $25 a few months ago via CL. Solid 100% ROI. Who said there's no money in Friends.3 points

If this is the new measure of how a set should do, then the Vampire and Bat set, anything with Harley Quinn and any Spider-Man set should be the best sellers around my area this year.2 points

With the right lighting to match the scene the tan version could look better but as is the gray provides a nicely well-defined contrast. That would be a goal to shoot for, only remember to have fun always. There are times where even if you are not in the mood to create, it can help yourself just to slap some random thing together. Also be careful to not find yourself creating designs just for a commission as the hobby you used to love can now become a grind.2 points

Judging future performance on past sets doesn't mean much nowadays with so many resellers + production runs etc, but looking at the previous ideas sets i came to conclusion that non IP sets are less than 1 year, and licensed sets are between 1-2 years All data taken from brickset for UK dates, for current sets not retired I've used todays date as an end date Non IP sets: Hayabusa - 21101 160 Exo-Suit - 21109 277 Research Institute - 21110 184 Birds - 21301 291 Maze - 21305 215 average duration = 225 days Mars rover excluded as that was actually a limited release, no data for first ideas set submarine japan release Licensed sets Minecraft Micro World: The Forest - 21102 837 The DeLorean Time Machine - 21103 429 Ghostbusters Ecto-1 - 21108 885 The Big Bang Theory - 21302 459 WALL-E - 21303 428 Doctor Who - 21304 337 562 average duration = 562 days Yes some of the values are obscured because of 1/2 sets, but this is hardly a detailed analysis I obviously waste too much time thinking about this.2 points

IMO this set is going to be a very, very slow climber. The landmark theme is not very collectible anymore after they decided to keep producing TB indefinitely. SOH is definitely the weakest in the entire theme. For me the poorest set in a weak theme does not inspire much confidence. I am expecting it to sit near RRP after fees/shipping/fraud for at least a few years. I hope you are right buy honestly I just don't see it at all. If TLG had kept to the 2 year life cycle of the previous landmark sets I believe TB would be doing very well (SSD well) and SOH would have had a chance just because collectors would have wanted them all. As it stands SOH is a set many collectors would pass on and now that there is no real motivation to collect all of the landmark sets I just don't see the market for it at a premium.2 points

Not a commentary on the quality of the set or the importance of the Beatles to music, but I just don't see these things being that sought after by the time the dust settles. There is no doubt in my mind that BTTF fans are more likely to be into LEGO than a Beatles fan of any age. LEGO is going to flood the market with these things... my local mom and pop store even got some on he first day which is highly unusual this time of year.2 points

Fingers crossed its a 3 for 2 with Asda...was just about to order a U Wing and Krennics Shuttle, glad I read this thread On another note I was in Tesco this morning collecting some of my orders. The customer assistant who served me thought there was a good chance Tesco would do another 3 for 2 before Christmas....heres hoping. Running out of storeage space and hiding places for my stockpile, girlfriends going to rumble me soon.2 points
