Can you wait 4 - 6 years for prices to rise above disappointing levels while every other LEGO investor is clearing out there stockpiles of Slave 1's, Sandcrawlers and Ewok Villages? If you think everyone else (especially the avalanche of new investors/speculators) hasn't gone heavy on these particular sets also you are certainly in for disappointment. We can see from recent UCS retirements - Red 5 / R2D2 - that everyone chasing the UCS 'sure thing' has ensured that surety has become unsure. The exception is SSD. That can be attributed to not as many people finacially able and brave enough to go deep on such a pricey and space-taking-up set. But the €200 sets are at the most enticing price point to deceive the plucky investor/speculator.One assumes that they are expensive enough so they won't be majorly hoarded, while being affordable enough to take a punt on themselves. Also boxes aren't as massive as €400 sets,7 points

Bought a 17 lbs lot of bricks from Goodwill the other day. For some reason, they shipped FedEx overnight, so I had them right away. (Go figure, I didn't pay for that). Total price paid for the lot (with shipping) was $60. I bought it because this was in the lot: That's a yellow Train Base 6 x 28 with 3 Round Holes Each End. It has appeared in only one set - 10133 - Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) GP-38 Locomotive. The part alone has been selling for about $30 on BL lately. I haven't had time to look through the lot, but even if I just sell that one part I'm still pretty golden on 17 lbs of bricks for $30. I've got a feeling it might all be there, though. I've already spied wheels and the magnets sitting near the top of the box.7 points

Stopped into my favorite Walmart on my way home today. Found another indominus Rex 75919 for $30 in the clearance section. App and tracker show the $30 price but no stock. Of course it was stuck in between about 8 of those Maula's Ice Mammoth Stomper still in the clearance aisle for $89.97.6 points

3 Sydney Opera Houses's from walmart's $249 blowout last week showed up in surprising mint condition at site to store pickup in tax-free Hinsdale NH. All 3 had nice and stale 06R6 seal codes.5 points

I think it is becoming very clear that there are way too many people investing in Lego on the whole at the moment. Even when you think you should have a winner there are just so many people willing to undercut as they need the money at that time or whatever else (maybe some people have access to free shipping etc). The stock that you have from before the media exposure of Lego investing is probably good to go in some/many cases, but afterwards, I think you're/we're struggling a bit on the whole. I've seen it mentioned many times that there are still wins to be had, and that's true, but on the whole it must be getting to the stage of people wondering what is the point of the effort of buying, storing, selling, posting for lower rewards or none at all. I was looking at the prices of Disney Minifig full sets earlier on Ebay and some dude in Germany was selling something like 80 sets at £7 lower than everyone else shipped into the UK (compared with UK internal prices). That wouldn't be too bad if the person was just selling a few and then the market could get on with it, but it will take absolutely ages to get to a point where the market starts adjusting upwards. I'll admit that due to my love of Lego as a child I noticed the article about 'Better than Gold' at the end of 2015 or whenever it was, so I admit that I am part of the problem to some extent. However, I'm not envisaging being in a position where I would be going lower than the lowest asking price on internet sites. Doing that is the main problem for everyone else involved. I work full-time and live quite happily with my parents so have a good expendable income each month which I have been putting into many sets for the last 10 months or so. It's comfortably within my budget and I still have room in storage. I don't NEED to sell anything and I'm prepared to wait a while to see how things go. The only things I've sold so far are easy quick flips like AntMan sets picked up at RRP several months ago and other sets and minifigs/mixels reduced to ridiculous prices in-store at supermarkets. I've done well on that front. I've got around 11k of stock at the moment at RRP, but I've paid a lot less than that as I've used the advice to wait for promo's etc. I would probably be a good case study for you guys to show what an average new brickpicker since late 2015 looks like. I can't do it tonight as I have to be up early tomorrow, but I could share a list of the sets I've picked up and the prices paid. Obviously, most of the sets I've bought are still awaiting retirement but the signs I've seen in the last few months and the amount of other sellers is slightly alarming. I can hold on to my stuff for as long as it takes (as I really do see the bul of my stuff as investment firstly), but I'd be worried if I was spending money I couldn't afford to and hoping to see a lot of profit from it in the near future. There are too many people at this at the moment. That's not to say that there isn't money to be made now and in the future (sure there is), it's all about playing your cards right I suppose. I'm just wondering if it's worth it for most people at the moment.5 points

This is one of my simple but fun projects that I have my wife for Valentine's Day. Our last name starts with a B. All lego and it has two 5x5 (actually are 5.5x5.5) plaques from Shutterfly in it. Yes I superglued it (almost a sin I know). Found the lego minifigure bodies to match what we were wearing and our son. Then had heads 3D printed.3 points

Up on SAH now. No TLG tax for Spain and 50 GBP confirmed in the UK. Amazingly the Dutch get it for 54.99 and the Italians for €49.99 but that´s just to stop them getting free shipping. I can see @Ciglione changing nationality again.2 points

Is it poll time? Can someone do a "How many of <UCS Tie, Slave-I, SC, EV> do you have" so we can all have something to talk about. DD has been slow and I'm ignoring all people and threads who talk about knock-offs...2 points

You guys no I spend thousands on 95% Exclusives, as for the Doctor Who I don't have any and will not be buying any, just don't see this set being big bucks, the Who has its own Fans, and 90% of lego people who go in the Lego store are not buying the Doctor Who set, now when the real fact that its retiring which should be this year then panic buying will kick in, but not by me. They should only give us whatever Vader (if any) is needed for the story. Once they go down that road of trying to check all the boxes, they inevitably sacrifice the story.2 points

I showed the trailer to my sons before they headed off to school... (they didn't move during the trailer) Afterwards, the oldest turns and looks to me - "you're going to take us to see it right?" .. I refrained from giving him a big "Hell Yes!" One teeny tiny disappointment ... give us moar Darth Vader please.2 points

This looks like it could be great - I really hope they don't f it up.2 points

since I live in the good old Europe, I discovered that the book is shipping here after 11/25/2016. I read on google books a preview, and I was very excited: there was one of my pictures on the first pages... I bought a PDF version, because I wanted to read it whole without having to wait a month, but my copy on amazon.it is also already in the cart. I wrote about the book on my LUG forum (itLUG) and spread the news in all italian speaking lego pages on facebook: a lot of people seems to appreciate it and preordered a copy :-) well done!2 points
