Sold another Rapunzel Creativity Tower FBA: $80 Purchased Jan 16 for $20 Originally I thought the new one would hurt the value of these, though I'm beginning to think the new one being smaller and much worse is helping...let's see if we can get to $100 by Christmas6 points

I did some on the office supplies. Clearance clothes were 100% back in points at kmart the other week. Somehow wound up with $10 more in points than I spent? The deal on Levi was actually on all pants. Then I used my VIP benefit for 100% back on one item to $50. We were buying a fridge and stove anyways and got $350 back. All in the last month I've gotten ~$800 of lego for free from kmart buying regular items we normally buy anyways.2 points

You can say about this set what you want, but this video is pretty neat.2 points

I think that article about trying to slow down business is really part of their plan. The new death star, rehashed star wars sets, leaving modulars skip a retirement - all show some signs that they are trying to do a minor undermining of the reseller business which at times must overwhelm their production capacity. I've seen it happen too many times over the last few years to realize it has to have an effect. Just look at all the people that sacked the sandcrawlers when it was temporarily sold out for a minor period of a few days. I bet many many thousands, if not 10,000+ were sold in just a couple days around the globe. Things like that have to create bottlenecks. So, undermining and upsetting the reseller market so they don't buy as much the next year and keeping business sales a little more natural, if that market is slowed seems like a solid concept.2 points

Don't worry. Exclusives don't go for 3x MSRP any more. If SSD and TH haven't made it yet nobody else stands a chance.2 points

I answered a Facebook group posting for a used, some sealed bags 10188 Death Star last night Before I could finish typing the response, they had lowered the asking price from $50 to $25. I'm super-skeptical at this point, but I take a chance and drive an hour to meet them this morning. 19 lbs of Lego: Looks like the majority of the Death Star is there, including some of a Hogwart's Castle for $25 + $8 for gas. Oh, and I found a dime in the box.2 points

I think there are a few reasons. Overall, enrollment in Catholic schools is down across the country. I think the economy plays a large part in that. It's hard to come up with an extra $5000.00 a year to pay for a school when public is free. St. Paul School used to have well over 300 kids in it, but the old nun who ran it well retired and a lousy principal took her place. Many families left because of this principal. Also, the old head priest of the local church and school was not engaged. A new, younger and active priest has taken over and has done wonders for the community. We also have a kick ass principal now who sets high standards and busts his butt for the school. He is from a large public school system and has really instituted some impressive programs. Last year as a Kindergartener, my son Max had Spanish, computers twice a week, art, music, gym twice a week. Public schools don't come close in many cases. I think what has also hurt was that even with the new principal and priest, there was always a feeling that St. Paul was a great school...but it might close, so some people were afraid to make a commitment. We liked the school so much, we said screw it, we will make it work. A lot of other families feel the same way. We picked up an additional 25 kids this year, which is great. If we can increase it next year another 25, we could be in good shape. As for the voting, they have won many awards and their graduates finish top of their class in many cases. Bottom line...it's money. Anybody with experience in Catholic schools know that tuition is only a portion of what you are asked to "donate." While I am not a over the top religious person, we chose St.Paul because of its programs and reputation. There are kids from all walks of life in the school. All types of nationalities and religions. They teach manners and respect and there is a sense of goodness that permeates through the school. It is worth fighting for once again. Believe me, the school community prayed last year for a miracle and the LEGO raffle delivered. They.....AND I...are grateful.2 points

Hi Folks. I'll do the same as last year (copying Mos' original idea) to support the children of NJ's St. Paul School. For each "LIKE" THIS SPECIFIC post gets, I'll put $1 toward the raffle. Thanks, JA Is Online2 points

Similarly after Birds became an official set the designer sent in another project with 3 additional birds in the same style. That project didn't even reach ten thousand votes. But even if it would have reached the required votes, I severely doubt Lego would have turned that into another official Ideas set. I don't think TLG allows (unwritten rule?) multiple connected sets from the same fan-designer become official Ideas sets. So once a submission by a designer actually becomes an official set, the other submissions by the same designer that are similar in style to the approved submission can be scratched from possible approval, even if they reach those coveted ten thousand votes. So with "Old Fishing Store" by RobenAnne approved to become an official set, I really doubt his next submission Boat Repair Shop will pass the next review round.1 point

Nintendo NES Classic Edition. I am cautiously optimistic about this one. Also watching the Anki Cozmo AI Robot. At the very least, I'll be grabbing one of these for the family. Looks cool!1 point

I agree. Perhaps they will also review the 6 month returns policy. If SC stays another year, more than a few people will send theirs back. They also use the retiring soon tag to move stuff they have too much stock of or is not selling well. The Exo Suit fiasco could well have been one of the instigators - another reason to hate that set. I´ve stopped trusting SAH tags and data as it is even less credible than what in-store employees say.1 point

So we just walk into his house...look at his personal collection...grab something we want from it and then leave? In for 7 more tickets!1 point

I agree that Dr. Who is nowhere near as popular as BTTF in most of the world, but Dr. Who is still running and BTTF is not. So there's more potential for new fans. Although in this day and age it's likely that there will be a BTTF remake at some point. It's not a bad set for non-dr who fans either, lot's of nice parts and printed parts. The minifigs look generic enough to use for other stuff too. I'm not going crazy with this one, but I can't see a reason not to pick up a couple.1 point
-
It's an odd set. AFOLs admire it more than your average 9 yo Ninjago fan. But we don't really give a crap about the minifigs (at least the ninjas). At $200 it's not a terrible value for it's piece count but it would have sold better had it been a $150 set to begin with.1 point

I ended up with 4 of that set and never bought one I think my son got them for birthday gifts and maybe we got one used in a lot. We built a really awesome daily bugle modular out of it. I'll have to post photos. The figures are great and some of the stuff inside like the desks and spider man signs are neat too1 point

I dropped by a Toys R Us on the way. They appear to give promotion items even when purchasing sets at 50%, they still had stock at 50% off, they still had the Musicians promotion set from last week (you could choose whichever), and they didn't mind doubling the promotions for a $200 purchase. Also, it was a terrible idea to stop by a Toys R Us while on bicycle to end up carrying 7kg of Lego in one hand for 5.3km. I don't recommend it!1 point
-
Maybe I just bought it from one of you lol...looked back at the SH sets and only 2 that I want that I don't have. This is one of them...I doubt we see Dr. doom in Lego again. I had like 58 dollars to use on eBay so I figured why not...1 point
