I answered a Facebook group posting for a used, some sealed bags 10188 Death Star last night Before I could finish typing the response, they had lowered the asking price from $50 to $25. I'm super-skeptical at this point, but I take a chance and drive an hour to meet them this morning. 19 lbs of Lego: Looks like the majority of the Death Star is there, including some of a Hogwart's Castle for $25 + $8 for gas. Oh, and I found a dime in the box.12 points

This debate has thrived on BL since way before I started 7 years ago. Always mark it correctly. One tip I learned that I will pass along: for description use "plastic toy parts" not "Lego". Seeing "Lego" may tempt thieves in the postal/customs process to open the package. Also from time to time some customs agencies stop "Lego" packages to check for counterfeit items, although its been a while since I've heard of that happening. Definitely mark as merchandise. The HTS Tariff code is 9503.00.00 and supposedly adding that on the form helps expedite processing. As for the value, be accurate, but don't include shipping. Include any discounts or coupons you've given. if you are going to round, round down. In the case above, if the actual value was $380 and you put $400 on the form, the buyer had to pay import tax on $20 unfairly. So the amount you put on the form matters! Sadly the costliest limits are shipping to the UK. Any value over £15 (~$25) gets hit with a 30% tax PLUS an "administrative fee" of £7 to collect that tax. Unfortunately may buyers in the UK aren't aware of this restriction. Its been suggested for years that BL add a popup warning when a buyer checks out like "you acknowledge you may be responsible for customs duties upon receipt of this order". But typical BL, no action to improve it. EU threshold is supposed to be €100, but some countries are lax about collecting it, so its hit or miss. Germany and Italy are pretty consistent with enforcement. Canada is also $100 threshold, also inconsistently collected.5 points

A tad late with this annual monthly building theme topic (considering MaKtoberfest already is in effect) so I apologize for that but anyway let's go with the flow and see what this year has brought. There is a ton of designs to search for and through as usual therefore this thread will take a while to fill up. In the meantime here are some fantastic space cruisers with more to come. Sorry about that, I had assumed because they were IN THE FREAKING PICTURE it would work and didn't check them. Sounds like the promo is half-activated. Here are all the sets that have the 30% off tag, includes some big ones such as Krennic's shuttle, Wall-E, Maze etc. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/b/30-off-any-one-toy-game-item/building-lego/lego/_/N-2ktoZ2fpy3 points

Ended up ordering the tie striker for $10 off ($60 plus tax), then with the combined bonus points earned and the $10 off $50 ordered $60 worth of paper towels, toilet paper, etc and paid $4. Then finally figured out the clothing deal and ordered about $65 in jeans and t shirts and got another $65 in bonus points. Once those show up I'll probably get the Lego creator lighthouse. I love Kmart.3 points

I think there are a few reasons. Overall, enrollment in Catholic schools is down across the country. I think the economy plays a large part in that. It's hard to come up with an extra $5000.00 a year to pay for a school when public is free. St. Paul School used to have well over 300 kids in it, but the old nun who ran it well retired and a lousy principal took her place. Many families left because of this principal. Also, the old head priest of the local church and school was not engaged. A new, younger and active priest has taken over and has done wonders for the community. We also have a kick ass principal now who sets high standards and busts his butt for the school. He is from a large public school system and has really instituted some impressive programs. Last year as a Kindergartener, my son Max had Spanish, computers twice a week, art, music, gym twice a week. Public schools don't come close in many cases. I think what has also hurt was that even with the new principal and priest, there was always a feeling that St. Paul was a great school...but it might close, so some people were afraid to make a commitment. We liked the school so much, we said screw it, we will make it work. A lot of other families feel the same way. We picked up an additional 25 kids this year, which is great. If we can increase it next year another 25, we could be in good shape. As for the voting, they have won many awards and their graduates finish top of their class in many cases. Bottom line...it's money. Anybody with experience in Catholic schools know that tuition is only a portion of what you are asked to "donate." While I am not a over the top religious person, we chose St.Paul because of its programs and reputation. There are kids from all walks of life in the school. All types of nationalities and religions. They teach manners and respect and there is a sense of goodness that permeates through the school. It is worth fighting for once again. Believe me, the school community prayed last year for a miracle and the LEGO raffle delivered. They.....AND I...are grateful.3 points

Hi Folks. I'll do the same as last year (copying Mos' original idea) to support the children of NJ's St. Paul School. For each "LIKE" THIS SPECIFIC post gets, I'll put $1 toward the raffle. Thanks, JA Is Online3 points

That is tempting. At $175 that's a good deal. I wonder what the future holds for this set. Imagine the greatness if Lego had the rights and did this set...2 points

After some back and forth with B&N CS, applied the 30%. Be careful when they manually apply the 30% because the first time they tried to do it on the price with tax already included and THEN add tax a second time. Example situation would be $100 + $7 tax = $107. Take 30% off $107 and then added tax on the discounted amount. This results in about a 25 - 28% discount depending on the price of your item. Just explain it if it happens and they will correctly apply it.2 points

I wouldn’t have marked it as gift either; however, you did the right thing by writing the value on the customs form. I believe that it is a requirement, no matter what “category” (gift, sample, commercial, etc.) is sent. Each country is different, but in my experience when shipping international, there are taxes associated with certain dollar amount thresholds. The buyers generally are required to pay the customs taxes/fees associated with their purchase, not you, but it does help to have it in your store terms (like Phil said) so that they understand too. For example, I have shipped a few items to the UK, and each time UK customs will hold the shipment for as long as it takes till they receive their tax money from the purchaser. I had one item sit in customs for a month and a half till the buyer paid the fees. Understandably, the gov’t wants their portion that is owed to them. Your Spanish buyer more than likely had to pay some form of customs fee/ tax for their poly bags, not some bribe or fine, and is trying to be a bit dramatic. I wouldn’t sweat it. You did the right thing by listing the value.2 points

I dropped by a Toys R Us on the way. They appear to give promotion items even when purchasing sets at 50%, they still had stock at 50% off, they still had the Musicians promotion set from last week (you could choose whichever), and they didn't mind doubling the promotions for a $200 purchase. Also, it was a terrible idea to stop by a Toys R Us while on bicycle to end up carrying 7kg of Lego in one hand for 5.3km. I don't recommend it!2 points

Some people say this thread isnt as active as before, I think most people just want to keep quiet about what current sets their buying. So to follow their example I'll only list some "retired" items I picked up recently: 2 x 71011 Series 15 Minifigure boxes (67% off) 3 x 71012 Disney minifigure boxes @ RRP 1 x 42009 technic crane @ RRP 1 x 10240 Red 5 X-Wing @ RRP2 points

I would just like to point out the genius of discounting these exclusives for business users by Amazon. They know that the large majority of users buying these sets in such large quantities are highly likely to sell these on Amazon down the road... freeing up inventory space and making similar margins...1 point

Finally got around to building this. Built it over the past 3 days. I was initially hesitant to build another technic set, and the look of the Porsche wasn't exciting for me. Glad I ended up building it, very fun, especially the first 2 boxes with the motor and chassis. Happy with final outcome, it was much larger than I anticipated. Included pic of the 24 hour race car for comparison. I do have a couple of criticisms. The gaps/holes in some areas take away the look of the car, and lastly, the Porsche sticker logo is disproportionately small. You can hardly see it!1 point

That's actually my favorite idea yet. The bad investment lot. People can send in their shelf-warmers and someone will get a huge bundle of random sets. If it ends up as 20x Exosuits, even funnier1 point
