LEGO has been lazy, and cutting corners 9 times out of 10 lately, regardless of the theme (not just limited to Star Wars). With a never ending series of SW movies coming, it is still the theme to be in. Now if LEGO (that is LEGO, not the designers who I am certain would love to be creating beautiful sets) decides to continue making crap, that is on them.4 points

I think most of these conversations in this thread are emotionally based. My original thought on the 10188/75159 was that it is ONE set...The longest running production set of all time. It must have made money for LEGO...a lot of money to be around so long. It is special. So special that LEGO decided to freshen it up a bit a roll it out once again. We all get it. We understand why LEGO wants to give this set another couple of years. It's a quick refresh and repackaging and thousands more will be sold. I think it is a wasted opportunity though. LEGO really could have done something wonderful...a true showpiece. It could have been a massive 5000-6000 piece set that would have displayed beautifully in every LEGO store across the world. People would have paid $500-$600 or more for something special. Now, many (...and I mean many of the true LEGO fans with money) will blow off the new set and rightfully so. Why? They have it. Personally, I will move onto other sets and themes...less and less STAR WARS sets by the way. With the exception of a handful of sets in the theme, the sets are just not that interesting or well done. Flashy boxes don't hide weak designs. LEGO is getting lazy with this theme. There are so many vehicles and characters that could get UCS treatment and are ignored for retreads. The future of LEGO investing does not lie with the STAR WARS theme in my opinion and that is coming from a guy with thousands of STAR WARS sets. What's next? Another Snowspeeder and Falcon? Another Imperial Star Destroyer? How about a UCS C-3PO? An AT-AT? A Venator? A Landspeeder? Mos Eisley Cantina? I can go on. There are a lot of smart people on this forum and many of us feel disappointed in this ONE particular set. I won't be disappointed in another UCS Falcon. I expect it. I just hope it is BETTER than the original...way better. That's all that I ask.4 points

I just got the most recent BLOCKS magazine with my monthly article in it. Great magazine...My article "looked" great. It was about the 10188 and was written several months ago. I wrote about the 75159's possible influence on the 10188. I assumed that it was a completely different set. I sure look like an a s s now.4 points

This took longer than I expected because I'm color blind according to my kids and don't know the difference between black and grey. Only had to partially dissemble 3 times to do a swap out. I will building the b model.4 points

So I went full Star Wars geek and did some research. Apparently Eclipse I SSD was destroyed about 5-6 years after the Battle of Endor in ROTJ. The Eclipse II SSD was destroyed a few years after its sister ship. The events of TFA take place about 30 years after ROTJ. I guess it's possible that the First Order builds another ship of the Eclipse Class SSD, that might get featured in Episode VIII or IX. ________________________________ I'd take any of these previously released sets if given the UCS treatment.3 points

Star Wars may perhaps be the center of your Lego universe, but it is not the lynchpin for the entire Lego universe by any stretch of the imagination. Why exactly do you think the City, Technic, Princess, Friends, and Juniors sets will "fall" if the sheen comes off of the Star Wars theme?3 points

"When my grandfather designed the 10188, they didn't have the advanced building techniques and elements we have available today. Please keep in mind that we didn't take advantage of either of those things, but at least they were available to us."3 points

I am no longer confident in long term holding of this company's products. After the Toy Shop and 10188 fiasco it is clear nothing is out of bounds. This company is either hell bent on destroying the secondary market or is completely clueless. In either scenario the risk of long term holding just went through the roof. I will be selling my UCS Falcon. Grand Carousels, Tajs and Eiffel Towers this shopping season. I love my collectibles, but I love my money even more. Already scaled back my buying this year to just 10% of what I did in 2015 and 5% of 2014, and it will be even less in 2017. Once I sell my 2014 stash in a few years I dumping that into rental properties and sticking to scummy quick flip practices within the return window for Lego products. There are quite a few here in the Northwest who are cutting back big time as well. I will still enjoy building a set from time to time but as investment material it just got downgraded heavily by me. Lego is printing way too many pieces these days for my liking and is clearly out of touch with the secondary market. They will still make their billions, just not at my expense.3 points

Trying to say this is nbd because Star Wars is an old property seems a bit naive. Look at the bigger picture. LEGO has shown they have no reluctance to rerelease an exact set that retired 9 months prior. That means anything in your inventory could be rereleased at anytime. Of course this won't happen with every set, just the good ones that people WOULD BE willing to pay a premium for if the set weren't otherwise available. Some are too entrenched to see the big issue though.2 points

Yes, by policy, but sometimes the cooperativeness and manager discretion varies store-to-store. YMMV2 points

I can't help if that's how you take that. As I said, he's looking for a piece he dropped. I have no idea what you're talking about.2 points

If they keep up their letting down of fans, they're going to slowly lose their fanbase and their dominance in both the toy and the building block industry. It will happen, albeit very slowly. If 75098 and 75159 have set a new precedent for creative design quality, then the primary thing LEGO currently holds over its competitors is the physical quality of its parts, themselves. This is in addition to its well developed infrastructure. Practically any franchise would rather have sets based on their product, produced by Lego rather than say Mega Bloks. Lego is much more widely available, and held in a higher regard, and therefore can produce the most profit. However, again if the creative quality of their sets continue to stagnate, eventually some other brand will rise up and usurp their dominance. The only thing that needs to happen is for Lego's rivals to increase their part quality and diversity, and many of them are indeed slowly approaching LEGO's level. I mean, take Mega Bloks for example. If you're really into HALO, they've given you everything you could want. But with LEGO and fans of Star Wars, (and as an example, this set), so much more is to be wanted.2 points

Again... coming back to the discussion of our footprint in the lego sales. I really believe we have a significant share. When I read many people are scaling back investment purchases or like myself quit buying and sell 90% of my stash I cannot avoid concluding that lego will notice it in their sales. Just take your average investor here and check out their storage rooms. That is alot! Many non-investors do not buy at such scale. Some people here might even buy only clearance items. And stop buying at RRP. So if enough investors do that Lego will feel it. I made my decision to stop buying from Lego directly and only buy if 50% off or less. I will sell 90% of my stash. Already started with that proces end of last year. Maybe keep some Town Halls and R2's. But if I smell the slightest odor of a remake on the horizon I will sell everything. Maybe this is all very drastic. But Lego just went a bridge too far this time.2 points
