"Well I have about 20 Emails and 3 phone calls on the New Death Star and what am I doing about the 10188.I was going to wait a while to post but with my name poping up everwhere well he is my thought. "Do I have the blues on this on the 60 DS I had sure who wouldn't. But you guys with just a few act like the world has ended, and Lego investing is dead, Well I have sold 15 DS, $550-600, most on Craigs List, and with the Double VIP Points a few weeks ago and I had a few hundred dollars VIP Points I took the $5000 grand and so and went out and got Sancrawlers, Ferris wheels, More Simpsons sets, Ewok Villages, PR, Etc and with all the VIP points I had I got 2 Sandcrawlers Free. and I got Most of my DS for $262 from B&N and alot for for $285 with the Toys R US Buy 2 get onfe free, and that was twice a year for years, and others I got were $300 or so on Amazon. so I have 45 DS Left, I see these taking many many years on being worth $800-1000 unless the new one is not made long. "My Theory is I am waiting for Christmas to see how much these are going for which I don't see much, I look at it this way now after Christmas if there are 100's on ebay I will unloade 25 more even if I can get a $50 profit I will do it so I look at it me having $12,000 grand put away, having lost nothing but these would have been a $1000 set in another year or two. so either way I am still living on wall street, I still have 40 POTC Pearl and Queen Sets, 40 HP 4842 & 10217 Sets, 45 SSD, 58 HH and thousands of more great sets and exclusives. and as I said before I would like to stop buying when I am 70 and thats 2 yrs from now, now easier said than done. "Now I will sail if Lego does the HH, TH, and other great Exclusives basically the same way well then giving up on investing might be a thought, So here are my thoughts and what I am doing, and you guys that have 5 or under and don't need the money I would hold on to them, you guys with 10 and up if you can make your money back I would sell about 5 of them. and whoever thinks the new DS will be a poor seller I disacree. So if anybody wants to email me or even call me I have talked to hundreds of you guys on the phone. "So Don't Crack and give up the ship" Ed28 points

Soon. Due to lack of sales. No point in buying that terd. I have 10 of them. The 75159 is not an iconic set. It's an old retread. An embarrassment. I guess that hokey gold UCS emblem will make it worth $100.00 more. Sorry, whoever is in charge of producing the Assault on Hoth and this tired set should be fired. I know about 20 competent MOC builders that could have done a stellar job on this. This is an outdated set. People expected much more. They deserved much more. You are now going to see a company that grossly overestimated consumer interest in a set. When the reseller dollars dry up, good luck selling it LEGO. Feel the wrath of LEGO resellers and pissed off :LEGO fans that expected more. When consumers see they can buy a MISB 10188 for $400.00 on eBay and Amazon, see how many of your high priced boxes of ABS plastic you will sell. LEGO has indeed jumped the shark with this set. I thought LEGO could never screw up THIS set. They did with a dud. This is supposed to be their "flagship" STAR WARS set? I guess its new nickname on this site will be the UCS TITANIC...27 points

If someone can't find the pics on their own, they are just lazy and should apply for the LEGO Star Wars UCS design team.22 points

Don't buy a Lepin set to get even, buy a new LEGO set like a Disney Castle or the Technic Porsche or Excavator to show LEGO that it pays to produce quality and fresh products. There are literally thousands of MOCs out there that would make great sets. There is nothing wrong with tapping the creative LEGO fans of the world for their ideas. Put their damn names on the box and people would sign over rights to any MOC set...for free. The 75159 is a joke. Hell, I could have designed that set and I suck.17 points

It's really baffling how drastically out of touch TLG seems to be with their adult fans. There was a huge backlash over AOH, and they double down with this. It's not just the resellers that are upset--you can go to any of the major AFOL-centric sites and see that the vast majority of the comments about this set are negative. Everyone can see that this is just a money grab, and they are offended by it. And it's not just about the money--they see this as a waste of a UCS "slot" (one of the two designated SW UCS sets that gets released each year). It's perceived as lazy, and as you've said, cocky. I don't know what the R&D costs were to put out this set, but TLG probably should have spent a little more than they did on researching fan reaction to this decision.13 points

So Timmy's mother goes to the Lego store & buys the new Death Star set. Brings it home, wraps it up & gives it to Timmy for Christmas. Timmy says "I have this one, it's the same one I got last year." Timmy's mother says "The woman at the Lego store said it was brand new." Timmy says "Why would Lego ruin Christmas?" How many variations of this story will there be...?12 points

They like to leak stuff for sets like this early, so the disappointment seems less abrupt.8 points

I guess you must think I sit and surf the internet all day and get paid for it. LOL. You might sell stuff, but I also personally deal with customers...thousands a week. I resell tens of thousands of gallons of oil annually...to tens of thousands of customers. I know what the American consumer is willing to spend. Money is tight. I have been in the service and sales industry for 30 years and know that many rich people are cheap...or to be politically correct, they appreciate the value of a dollar. Dishing out $500 for a toy is a lot for any parent. People are looking for value today. The 1% might not care, but the 1% will not support LEGO. Taking away the LEGO collector/reseller from the equation will hurt. It's not like there are hundreds of thousands of these sets being sold. You saw the European inventory last year for many sets. Hundreds. A few thousand. There are tens of thousands of the 10188 in people's Brickfolios. Funny how LEGO's recent success has worked hand in hand with eBay's and Amazon's growth and the success of the secondary market. Coincidence? Maybe, but it is my guess that resellers have made more of an impact on LEGO's sales than many think...especially the 10188 and other large exclusives. The 10188 was easy money for years...or so people thought...over and over again. It was a guaranteed winner, only if it retired after 3,4,5,6,7....8 years. The set had multiple runs of renewed interest as a LEGO collectible gold mine and we were fooled each time. Now, the 75159 has to compete against MISB 10188s for less and Lepin knockoffs. That, plus the fact it's based on a 40 year old movie, with old building techniques and dated design. The 75159 is a loser IMO and that is really sad. It will hurt us all in the long term.8 points

This thread is a riot. So much intrigue! Conspiracy theories and phony photos and the fate of the entire Lego world as we know it hanging in the balance... Reminds me of the opening act of Cyrano de Bergerac. In how many ways can I describe it all? Obvious: Is that the new Death Star displayed in the window? It looks just like the last one. Optimistic: The cheese slopes actually give the new DS more of a finished look. Also Han Solo has blow-dried hair. It won't hurt the 10188. It's a classic! Hyperbolic: I'll never buy another Lego set as long as I live. Disney has destroyed that which I love the most and investing is forever finished. Rest in peace, Lego investing. Numerical: Rest in 4,016 pieces. Vituperative: The new UCS sets are awful. Lego designers have gotten so lazy it's embarrassing. We haven't seen a good UCS set since Slave I. Everything released in the last year has been progressively worse. Toy Shop: sucked. Batcave: sucked. Assault on Hoth: sucked. And now this. Vulgar: All of this fussing over a pair of old grey balls. Like my grandfather at his urology exam. Grammatical: The horde of outraged hoarders hollered about hoaxes until they were hoarse. I could keep going but now I'm just grasping at straws.7 points

I want to be on the record to state, I will not accept $50 profit for 10188's. I'll eat them first.7 points

I'm on the record saying it's pretty clever if someone photoshopped in minifigures nobody has ever seen.7 points

After looking at the pictures again, it does look like a fake or a terrible job. Maybe the reason the LEGO legal team is not pestering people to remove the images is because they are not the images.7 points

Which means I have a 10% shot of guessing the right number the first time... lol..... HELLO? CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE DEATH STAR? Oh... I'm sorry.. wrong number....7 points

Given that CM4Sci is scurrying around the forums like a rat on acid asking if the "leaked" pics have been requested to be taken down i'd say we are in for an interesting time indeed. Buy button at Defcon 2.7 points

People don't cheese out on vacations. That is a proven fact. I just spent 4 days at the Hershey Hotel in PA. Spent way more than I should have. I wasted $30.00 trying to get a $2 plush for my spolied son...numerous times (like 20 plushes). I am addicted to claw games. LOL.7 points

This whole situation draws interesting parallels to my career. As a software developer working at an insurance company, I see results like the Death Star every day. We were tasked with rolling out a new application. An amazing opportunity, to be creative, improve on past failures and make insurance applications great again. Project #1 Task 1 - The base :: Requirement - Structure it like the old system Task 2 - The laser fast functionality :: Requirement - We require the same functionality Task 3 - The diverse user base :: Requirement - User base hasn't changed. Use the old look and feel... Landphieran: Hey Project Manager, Yeah... soo none of these tasks are actually requirements. Project Manager: Oh yeah? Huh, the business just wants the same functionality so make it like that. .... Months goes by Project Manager: Hey Landphieran, I think we have a bug. Landphieran: What is the problem? Project Manager: Well, the app isn't doing what the old system did... Landphieran: How exactly is it not working? Project Manager: Well you know its not the same. Fix it. This is a result of bad management, who is unwilling to change, unwilling to take risks, and it will eventually kill a company.7 points

This set is made for all the people over the next decade that don't own a 10188. Parents don't buy Lego because they think it will hold/go up in value, they buy it for their kids. I know several kids that go to school with mine who are not affluent but do have a 10188. We are not as influential or important as we think we are. All the parents that aren't members here have no clue 10188 ever existed, all they know is that their kid wants a Lego Death Star and, oh look, here's a 75159.7 points

I've been thinking the same thing, my career involves graphic design and today I spent a bit of time studying the images. I agree the grainy one is crap so let's forget that one, next to the manual, again it just doesn't look right from a design aspect. Firstly the star wars Logo and TM symbol just don't look right, they are too close to the DS, it looks cramped and messy, plus the TM symbol can hardly be seen. Things look out of line, I think any designer would have lined up the flags with the Lego logo and Disney logo just to be meticulous, and as for the silhouette ships, I think they look tacky. Also the yellow glare from the fire looks odd, I'm not sure Lego would have wanted the actual image of the DS to be affected in any shape or form. Now for the shipping box image, at first glance things don't look in proportion. Half the SW logo has been cut off, but the entire DS can be seen, which means they is a huge amount of dead space above it not being used, I just don't think a designer would do that. Again, everything looks very cramped, the tie has been squeezed in, surely there is room to the left? The fire from the blast is touching the DS, again unnecessary and not consistent with other pic. The USC logo is literally touching the edge of the box, most designers would leave a minimum 3mm bleed around the edge, sometimes 6mm, with allows for movement when cutting and creasing, with the logo being that close it leaves no margin for error, fancy if the usc logo was cut off, you just couldn't take that risk, a printer would probably refuse it. Just my opinion, I may be entirely wrong but just observations.6 points

1. Yes many AFOLs tend to be passionate about the product. If you want to see some people really geek out over this stuff, go read Eurobricks or Reddit. Some posters there take hypercritical to a whole new level. In comparison, this group is relatively calm. 2. This crowd, in addition to the LEGO fan perspective, also voice their concerns regarding the financial impact of these type of set remakes. For you, this may just be a "hobby", and that's fine. For others though, LEGO represents a significant financial investment and possibly a steady source of income.6 points

Are you seriously suggesting we can't express our feeling about a poor product on a forum dedicated to that product? If you don't like the "whining" maybe steer away from this thread as it's blatantly obvious that this re release is going to leave a lot of people with a bad taste in their mouth and not just because of it ruining an investment opportunity. About as blatantly obvious as some holier than though person coming along and whining about whining. I can't stand people who come onto forums with the "shut up because i don't want to hear it" attitude.6 points

I feel like there is a direct proportion between the saltiness of a post and the number of 10188 sets that a person owns. LOL6 points

i'm sorry. there was at least effort in making ep 7. 75159 is to 10188 as 10249 (toy shop) was to 10199 (toy shop). i can't find the post i made last nov or dec asking why lego just don't put updated minifigs in newly made 10188 boxes. essentially, did that but could have just saved cash and put stickers on the 10188 boxes for the new minifigs.6 points
