Hey, you try dealing with my 4 year old, who gets mad every night that I've "stolen" the Death Star that hangs from his ceiling. And now I've stolen the MF that hung from his ceiling, too. He don't care nothing about entertaining you folks. I don't have enough yellow elements to make all of those numbers, without just Photoshoping them into one big pic. (I always intended the countdown to go until it's release day, September 15). I was so ready to jump on the "hide post" button...I had to take a second to look at that and realize what you did there. I hope so too! Maybe she'll be there to celebrate the arrival of the pics. I've got to find enough time to get out in that garage and dig out the minifigs.5 points

The countdown could be profit after shipping and fees - $34, $33, $32, etc.5 points

On the plus side, I'll bet they'll replace the flick fire missiles with spring shooters!5 points

I know that you are trying to find a bright side to this, but I don't believe (for re-sellers) that there is one. We have reached the point in the LEGO life cycle, that without the influx of new blood, we may be looking at a total collapse (from which we may never fully recover).5 points

Theft, wholesale discount, shipping contract, fell off a truck, his Mom bought it for him.5 points

Finished up the Rancor Pit with my son to add to Jabba's Palace that we built a couple weeks back. Looks great. I really wish that Lego would do more SW sets that could connect together to make an even bigger scene. That would be sweet. My daughter also had a pretty nice haul at her birthday party over the weekend. We are on bag three of the Heartlake Mall and she is enjoying it so far. She told me that she pretty much got all the Legos sets that she wanted except Birds, Death Star Final Duel, and the Ewok Village. Sounds like an excuse to set aside one of my Ewok Villages for a family Christmas present:)5 points

And that's really the crux of the argument these days. It's not so much of an issue of whether there is still money to be made in reselling LEGO - there certainly is. It's an issue for each individual seller to decide, Is the juice worth the squeeze?4 points

refreshes like the toy shop and 75159 (if it 10188 part deux) just makes investing more harder and extremely time sensitive. if anything, hopefully actions like "refreshes" by the TLG will make the aunt ednas of the world think twice about lego investing. weed out the clueless investors (ala dot com bubble)4 points

If this new Death Star is just a rehash of the old set, ala the Winter Toy Shop I think this is the end of Lego investing as we know it. I was planning on getting out this Xmas season anyway for a variety of reasons, but this just gave me an extra shove in that direction.4 points

I think it was a joke that they weren't even going to open but just to slap a label on for the new buyer. [emoji6]4 points

To be fair TLG did give resellers 18 months heads up on this one. Releasing the info on April 1st was a little cruel, but we are hardly in their good books at the moment.4 points

@Alpinemaps My wife and I went to the Discovery Center in search of some polybags. When we walked in the door, we noticed the Disney Castle sitting there on display. As soon as she saw it, my wife, who is now 8 months pregnant, looks at me says "You know you're buying that for me today, there's no way I'm leaving the store without it." ...... I know not to poke the bear, there was no discussion.4 points

I have been saying repeatedly on this forum that people should not mix DS with the other exclusives. 10188 was not meant to be retired. The new one is not a rehash. It is an update. Its continuous presence is a proof that people were buying it. No other set had its lifespan. Therefore don't expect rehashes of less prominent sets. ISD may come, but I doubt 10179 would happen due to inflated prices and Disney license. Modulars will never happen (Toy Shop fiasco). Metalbeard, Orthanc, Tumbler, etc even less chance. Just choose wisely. This panic about 75159 ending LEGO investing is ludicrous. It is not so hard to figure out what is potential rehash material. We can bet which one will pop sooner: Marvel/DC or Star Wars. It takes only 1-2 bad movies to ruin the party for a while.3 points

Lego investing is still a matter of 'Buy Low, Sell High'. It's just getting harder to do both [emoji6]3 points

The sky isn't falling...yet. I went through several obstacles with selling sport event tickets (annual SBLs, one-time SBLs, scamming buyers, postage increase, higher seller fees, bad US economies, replacement stadiums with more seats, being forced to pay full price for BS games like preseason). I had over 20 teams plus special events each year. I gave it all up except for 3 teams after 2011. Why? With the evolving Lego investment market (like with tickets for me) , it comes down to one thing : 1) Does the extra work, added risk and more BS still worth it knowing your profits will be lower than years past and likely decline each year? For me , the answer is no. My Lego buying had greatly reduced since 2015. There aren't easy home runs anymore in Lego investments. We all know that. I think if things continue the way they are, many newer and clueless resellers will exit the market , Aunt Edna will think twice about buying Lego since it's prob not better than gold and larger resellers such as yourself will need to rethink if it's worth it. So there is still money to be made but is it worth it? I don't think so.3 points

On that note I'd like to know how TLG's sales were for the Toy Shop (2nd release) last year as compared to the previous year (Santa's Workshop 1st release). Given the length of time that 10188 was available, there has to be an impact on sales for the "new version" esp if it's similar. Obviously at this point we know that putting a UCS label on the box is starting to lose some credibility.3 points
