The thing is, this 'hobby' thrives on the fact that people come out of their dark ages or become able to purchase sets they've wanted every day. Similarly, a child who loves LEGO discovers they love dinosaurs or a child who loves dinosaurs realizes they love LEGO every day. If you're a parent of either of these children, what are your options for LEGO dinosaurs? What will those options be for the next year or two?8 points

New VW Beetle. Very enjoyable build. Some inventive building techniques. Highly recommended. Last picture shows comparison to the previous version which I know is disliked by many but I still love it cause it's a big bad MFer.8 points

We finished our used, complete 10188 Death Star over the weekend. Turns out it wasn't complete, as it is missing the Luke Skywalker Tatooine mini figure. On the other hand, it included 8 extra mini figures and a couple of extra spy droids. Looks like its all the mini figures from the 7676 republic attack gunship, An older Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker, an Imperial Officer from 6211 ISD, and an Anakin with Black right hand from 2005 with the wrong legs. Overall, its a pretty impressive set and my son loves the play features. It took a while to build, but the finished product is nice. Now that I finished building 10188 and am posting pictures, Lego will likely release pics of 75159 and it will be the coolest set ever. Lol.5 points

First - Amazon France, and Hothbricks are not official sources. LEGO still has not released the photos in an official capacity. Stop posting the photos prematurely, or we will start issuing warnings. Second - if you have a complaint about something being posted, alert the mods. We'll take care of it. Despite our appearance of being omniscient, we do have jobs and lives. Give us a more than 10 minutes to hide posts. Bottom line - we don't want to kill the chill vibe we've got here. I know we're all excited to see this stuff. So, be cool, okay?4 points

I just hid a post that linked to rogue one sets... these pictures have not yet been released by LEGO so please do not post them in the forums. (for what, the third time now?)4 points

They don't have the capacity. Hence sets constantly in and out of stock, stock held back, stock put on temporary hiatus etc. A few years ago you could use out of stock notices as clues to what may be retiring. Nowdays it is meaningless. If I had a dollar for everytime a newbie referred to the "dance" as proof of something retiring only to have it hang around for a few more years I wouldn't need to resell lego to supplement my income.3 points

Agree with the poster above. The modular buildings are fairly different from one another so its good having the choices. Plus, having 5 buildings available at a time allows for people to build a semi-respectable street at retail, which I think is a good sales pitch if you were to start into this theme. If there were just two available, that's just not a lot of choices or options. As long as the buildings are different and variable from one another, I don't think having 5 avaiable at anyone time will make them cannibalize one another. I'm just speaking on my own behalf here, but last year we were strictly into mostly Star Wars, Architecture, and LOTR. Then we went to a lego store, and my wife insisted we start a street, so I caved in and bought a pet shop and after we built it, I realized that the theme was pretty awesome. So we've went and accumulated palace cinema, then Parisian restaurant, and just picked up a detectives office over 2xVIP. If all those sets weren't available, I doubt id have bought 4 in less than a year. By the end of the year, we'll probably up that to 5. We also are planning on adding fire brigade, and GE to our collection. If we come across town hall, and can bricklink GG or Cafe Corner, we may do that too. But, I liked the fact that the options were available for me to pick up a handful of sets. My opinion.3 points

Well I got sick and tired of waiting for a fire sale in Canada I could take advantage of... I bought one over the weekend from S@H for 2x VIP and London Bus promo. I'll let you know how new my seal code is when it arrives later this week.3 points

My wife just found one in a smashed box, but still sealed at Goodwill for $2 last week. I promptly thanked her for keeping an eye out for me.3 points

Retail cannibalism is a real thing and can diminish the brand. If more modulars = higher revenue for Lego, than by all means... but longer product lifespans and too many products on the shelf can dilute the brand. There's a reason Lego has traditionally used terminology like "retiring soon" and "retired product." Those terms drive the desirability of their products and create a sense of limit and urgency (buy it now!). My worry is Lego has started to rehash so many lines too frequently and will have the same effect as too many products on the shelf at one time. Where's the urgency for buyers? Brand diminishes... and so do sales. Lego cannot continue with such growth and expansion forever.* *I'm looking at you, Chinese economy.3 points

The B-wing was another star wars exclusive that also had a shelf life of about 11 months.. Last year, 6 exclusives retired that I can remember, and please correct me if i'm wrong (Maersk Line EEE, Tumbler, Red 5, Tower of Orthanc, Death Star, & Sea Cow). 2014 had (Super Star Destroyer, R2D2, Soapwith Camel, Winter Village Market, Horizon Express, Town Hall, & Grand Emporium) So, 2014 had 7, and 2015 had 6. I think this year will at least have 7, and could possibly have 8.. This is my list of speculation.... 95% convinced: T1 Van, Tower Bridge, & Pet Shop 80% convinced: Ewok Village, Santas Workshop, Simpsons House, Kwikee Mart 50%: Tie Fighter, Hellicarrier, Temple of Airjitzu, Fairground Mixer 20%: Sandcrawler, Palace Cinema, Sydney Opera House Would be shocked of any other exclusive not on this list disappears this year. And for guys like me that like to add investment stock slow and steady.. i'd say all on this list go, along with Winter Toy Shop, and the Mini Cooper by early 2018.. So, that's mostly my list that i've scratched together.3 points

By the time Christmas rolls around this set will be out for 19 months. So allow couple months into the new year for people to cash in their gift cards/cash and this set should linger close to its 2 year mark. Lego store still have these with 50R5 sitting on the shelves! They want products to move, not to have them sit in a warehouse/retail stores. If Walmart and Amazon are blowing them out, they probably got the go ahead to mark them down. If you are an Lego executive will you axe a product that is not selling or axe a product that is selling like EV (22R6) or SC. Now that doesn't mean Lego will not axe more than one set either, if production capacity is to be taken into account. I am not surprise to see Tie Fighter and EV go towards end of this year as we await for the next UCS.3 points

And Jet did this without a single warehouse, right? Pretty brilliant, if you ask me.2 points

Good point. Now that you mention it, amazon.fr also used the leaked series 16 minifigure photos for their product page, so I guess they aren't a reliable source at all. About the sets: I guess most people already know what is coming and what is not. I think there are some people with leftover X-Wings, AT-AT's and Y-Wings who are going to be very happy this christmas.2 points

All losers, by 2018 kids are going to ask for Luke & Rey related sets and by 2020 Rogue One is nothing but distance memory2 points

Retail cannibalism, and I think another thing at play here is consumer hyperchoice. In marketing, it just means that there are too many choices, you can't decide, and you leave. Have you ever walked down an aisle thinking, "hm, maybe I'll get some cereal this week." You are overwhelmed by not only the number of brands, but the number of subsets within each brand. "Eh, I'll just pass." I've definitely had the feeling walking into any Lego store. Sometimes, it's just too much to take in. "Wow, so this is a modular? Oh wait, what's this. This is also a..modular? What are modulars? Wait, why are there 3..no 4, wait 5 modulars? Wait, so there are other Lego lines as well? How many different lines are there?" I think this has a more noticeable effect on newcomers, but I'm sure everyone has had a feeling like this before.2 points

I think the JW hype is over. May have to wait till the next movie and hope Lego does not get the license to make the next movie. Then these sets will go $$$2 points

This set was knocked back into "Temporary Out of Stock" status from today's 2xVIP. Considering this set just came back a month ago on lego LEGO Shop at Home and was bounced back quickly, I think we have our first official retirement dance member. It will probably come back again, but I'd be shocked if these are around much longer. Great set, but overly hoarded....2 points

I've never seen both from TRU. Unless it's sealed in the TRU packaging, I don't believe it came both ways.2 points

Picked this up to get some minifigures to fill out my town. I'm not too impressed at $40. I really like the baby and wheelchair, the rest is pretty plain. What can I do with only one section of fence? I threw the park together but it's just a placeholder, the brick bank will go on that corner eventually.2 points
