New VW Beetle. Very enjoyable build. Some inventive building techniques. Highly recommended. Last picture shows comparison to the previous version which I know is disliked by many but I still love it cause it's a big bad MFer.7 points

I really like the new dragons as well. Are you talking about this castle @Alpinemaps? I saw it at Target tonight. It's a really good looking set. As an added bonus, I feel like this set has a Maleficent's Castle sort of vibe to it. I think the recent Disney CMF would look great if Elves mini-dolls aren't your bag.6 points

Couple of things that usually bug AFOLS about playsets is 1) key characters missing and 2) too small/doesn't capture the entire scene its trying to replicate. This one knocks both those on the head. I know I've preached it before but as a playset this entirely captures the entire scene/lightsabre battle pretty well - heck its even got handcuffs for luke. When its gets put on sale at £45 (~35% off) its wiped clean pretty quickly in the UK. Without a literal remake no other set (ok lets ignore the up coming DS) should include these figs in one pack. I think once this wave is done its going to be some time before we get a ROTJ selection again as they cycle through the films. I still think the Cantina is a better set but as a small display piece this one is great. And with the figure selection IMO this catches up to cantina prices pretty quickly. With Vader in the new "tie vs A-wing" set this one does lose some of its luster. If we don't get any royal guards in the next rogue one wave then they're an added bonus to this one too. But as with a lot of sets now a-days whether its a dud or not depends on your buy in and I'd only get this one at >30% off (although for a personal one I'd say just buy it )5 points

Yep. I have no inside info on pic release. I'm just counting down days until Sept 15 when (we assume) it will be released. We still don't know officially what the two Sept 15 VIP releases are.3 points

Some interesting thoughts about this weekends 2XVIP. Tower Bridge, Santas Workshop, Sandcrawler, and Ferrari all were knocked out to Will ship in 30 days. Out of all of those, I think Ferrari still has time, and the others might be jittering with the dance.. I know it's not october's 2xVIP when the signs become more prevalent, but these all could beginning their last dance as 2016 fleets away. It will be new years before you know it, and i'm guessing we will see at least 8 exclusives go into retirement. T1 also got knocked out to will ship in 30 days but that changed to august 21st today. I think that one will begin dancing too. One thing that becomes evident to me as the years go on, and more cars are added beyond just T1, is that the exclusive creator cars theme has big legs. If any of these sets begin to retire, I think good things will come to those that have the patience to wait it out. The Bug, and Brick Bank also will ship in 30 days, but I suspect they'll be back for many years to come. For those that care, the Tie Fighter is discounted by 40.00 on amazon, so, in my opinion that's the best deal out of all right now. Tie Fighter could jump the Sandcrawler and Slave 1.....maybe.3 points

It irks me to think about how that place used to be a worhtwhile spot to buy legos. Now it just plain sucks. Now, the only good that place serves is if you miss a set, you may find it there, a year after retirement.3 points

Picked this up to get some minifigures to fill out my town. I'm not too impressed at $40. I really like the baby and wheelchair, the rest is pretty plain. What can I do with only one section of fence? I threw the park together but it's just a placeholder, the brick bank will go on that corner eventually.3 points

Family trip to the Lego Store. My daughter saw Ghostbusters and wanted the new set and I needed a bus. I brought my wife to try and sweet talk a second bus. Instead we spent enough for 2 buses. Her charm did get us the parrot though Also loaded up on 1x1 sand green bricks and 2x1 sand green plates3 points

I started building my $48.94 Amazon TIE. So far so good. It's will be interesting to put this set next to the UCS MF, X-Wing (once built) and Slave 1 for size comparisons. 18 bags (3 unnumbered) with elements.3 points

Having a unique hotrod for the LEGO line will make their selection more interesting simply on being something else than another Volkswagen or some other small car entry or even a more obvious popular choice. Great model for a cool car, and if the set number upon reveal is different the topic title can be fixed easily.3 points

I bet you could really nicely pair this with ToA to create a nice display. Hmmmm.... Thanks for the idea Dean-3 points

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who talked to the LEGO rep last night. Disney minifigures aren't coming back. I guess it's pretty serious.3 points

I'm watching the replay of the opening ceremonies as we speak. Camping all weekend so I missed it. My wife did show me the replay of that gymnasts' fall. That was brutal to watch.2 points

I guess it will depend on how xmas train is received and whether a new train is released in 2017. Eventually supply is soaked up by the new AFOLs that missed out and with no better alternative to spend money on, it´s this or nothing.2 points

I was thinking in a similar way. Those gates are just screaming "entrance" and with the layout of ToA....yeah it gets the wheels turning.2 points

I was thinking the same thing I really think my daughter will love that set with the maleficient figure. It can go next to the 50% off Cinderella castle I picked up the other day2 points

So, just finished. Missing a few bits, roof mostly, but nothing terrible. A bit disappointed if I’m honest. Finished product looks good but the build is meh. The later modulars are just so much more fun to build, more interesting techniques, fun interiors etc.. PR still may favourite. If this were released today I doubt it’d have anyway near the attraction. In fact I don’t think it could be release today as it is.2 points

Speculation. 10188 will be fine. My opinion is anyone who invested in a 400 set and had an inclination to try and sell within a year or two didn't think it through. Ssd is hanging out at the current price, it will be there for a while. I sold 12 and got all my money back, my other 18 won't be sold for quite some time. Patience is the rewarder for big expensive sets. This year has been a relatively flat year for growth. But the previous three were stellar. If there were no movies to keep interest in Star wars then I would be worried. I'll get out of these netting a double after expenses of my basis, not before.2 points

The playsets tend to have a slower growth rate than the vehicles. Just looking at some of the recent examples - Duel on Geonosis, Palpatines Arrest, and even the Cantina have shown a slower growth rate, than some vehicles that were released during the same time that retired. Looking back, it was better to stock your money in Gunships, than to buy an equivalent amount of Duel on Geonosis, even if it has a very well done Count Dooku figure. Same can be said of Palpatines Arrest - a great set with awesome figures, but for some reason, the money would have been better put in X-wings back then. Last year, Cantina's haven't shown the same growth rate as AT-AT's and ISD's. So, I'd suspect something similar here. The IST will more than likely grow faster than the Final Duel's, and while I think investing in a few is a good bet, I think it will just be a moderate investment with very slowth growth. It will eventually double, but other sets will double much quicker.2 points
