Good looking kit. 32 bags, numbered 1-8 + motor, battery box, and manual. Love me my Technic flagships. Also, the B-model instructions are now up on Lego's site. The B-model looks super on the back of the box, very tempting to order a second kit for that build7 points

I travel a lot for work, so tonight instead of sitting in the hotel, I decided to venture out to some of the more rural Walmarts of central Florida and found the following: snow man, a series 15 minifig, 3 mixels for $2.50, and a Brave set that was $9. Nothing amazing, but I've hoped to find a snowman lurking for a couple months.6 points

I'd like to point out that while we've been posting, @emazers has already acquired 5 copies of the new Death Star as part of his plan to buy 1 or 2 a month until this retires in 2023.5 points

They were showing all kinds of old stuff on the app without aisle numbers, like monster series minifigs, wheel bike, Phantom, and Iron Man Malibu. I definitely had visions of an @exciter1 level haul.5 points

Couldn't pass up another NISB 10210 off eBay with the 10% promo. I blame @BrickLegacy for this4 points

Piece count is irrelevant for the most part. The weight of the ABS plastic is the primary factor in pricing sets, with minifigures playing a factor as well.4 points

If... 75159 is too much similar to 10188 with just updated figs I will stop buying lego and quit investing.4 points

It will be interesting to see how much longer lego can raise their prices on sets, before people stop buying or their profits begin to decline. If the set is 500, it needs to be absolutely worth something i'd be willing to pay 500 for. It can't be something that feels like a 300.00 set from a few years back, because that's not going to fly anymore. Lego is now overvaluing itself, and I think we are starting to see those cracks in the wall. Just look at the recent UCS Tie as a prime example. They can't sell it off at 199.99, but when it hits 139.99, they can finally move them. This shows that these sets are initially overvalued by the suits, and this seems to be an increasing phenomenon, and it's going to bite them if they keep that mentality going, because a majority of consumers will drop out. There's quite a lot of things I could spend 500.00 on, and so this set will have to blow me away in order to buy it at that price. If it's even a menial attempt and isn't the greatest star wars set of all time, and sets the bar so high then I don't think i'll purchase it. I bought the Sandcrawler at a little under the 299.99, and don't get me wrong, I like that set, but I used VIP points on it, so in the end I didn't pay that high of a price. 300.00 for that set was ok, but I felt like 250 was what I wanted to pay for it and that was about what I bought it for. So, that means this set better be twice as decent and twice the piece count of the Sandcrawler. I look at Assault on Hoth the same way. 250.00? I think i'll wait until it's in the 180 range. I've been noticing that this summer prices haven't increased on many themes and sets that have retired a few years back, and in some cases certain themes values have declined.. I'm starting to think that lego's popularity is starting to wane a bit, and those of us that also dabble in reselling can see some of those cracks in the wall. A lot of older star wars sets have lost some value, and other themes are beginning to wane in popularity. Lego needs to step up their game, IMO. I think sets like this come with some risk. And for all those saying they are going to already invest in this set... I just got to laugh a bit because this set could very well kill the market for 10188, and there could be a lot of people that will lose hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on that set to get rid of them, especially if a bubble does begin to pop. By then, if this set is overvalued by a hundred or so dollars, it won't be an investment winner either. Especially if the luster starts to wear off and the intrinsic value of a lego set declines in the eyes of the consumer, which could very well happen.4 points

That was 10 years ago. It will be a $300 set by today's standards, compared to what a $500 set was 10 years ago.3 points

Yesterday in the Lego Store I bought a 75913 F14T & Scuderia Ferrari Truck and a 41069 Treasure's Day at the Pool. Wanted to get a London Bus and an Olaf promo. Also had the calendar coupon for a Nexo Knight minifig. Went to pay using some VIP points and a credit card. Guy rings it up and hits the "Cash Paid" button by mistake. Get the manager and do it all over again. On second try, guy does the same mistake. Ring it up a third time. For the troubles I ended up with two London buses, three Olaf polys, and three Nexo Knight minifigs. After the 2nd fix, the manager went to throw more free stuff in the bag but the cashier told him he already had me covered. I couldn't argue there, but was hoping for another bus or two into the bag.3 points

That's excellent advice. I'm already looking at the Rogue One sets, and seeing a lot of similarities to the Force Awakens sets. When you do an apple to apples comparison 4 of the 5 sets are equivalent to 4 sets that are currently being discounted at walmarts. This does make me realize that buying those sets at 50% off shouldn't be an issue, but I don't know if there is going to be much profit for those that start purchasing during the final days when the remaining sets of that wave are sitting at TRU for 110% RRP. Especially when the Rouge One sets will be out, and most of them are too similar to the sets that are retiring, except for the minifigures. This is also the problem with the new death star in that it's just a too recent refresh. This is where a lot of us could get burned quite quickly if you start investing to deeply into some of these sets. It's almost like these yearly films are going to just dilute the line very quickly. While we probably wont see many rehashes of these same vehicles and sets, the similarities to other sets being released will be close enough that it will almost be like a rehash. So....it's definitely a new phase, I think. I just look at half the sets from this year in the Star Wars wave and there wasn't a lot of creativity. Disney can ruin this star wars line quickly, and I don't know if I want to be holding a lot of stuff. I've seen this happen many times before and I think we are starting to see the downside to the lego star wars line as it becomes oversaturated and overvalued. This death star will be a defining moment in more ways than one.2 points

Indeed. It has been stated before on this wonderful forum that weight is also a good, if not better metric. That being said, I really hope Lego knocks it out of the park with this one.2 points

Over saturation and over evaluation of sets is a huge problem at the moment. The star wars and super hereos rapid release of content seems to be bringing out the worst in Lego. Releasing tons of content at inflated prices with little creativity. Granted there have been some great sets (outside of those theme's) that i have really enjoyed. I anticipate a lot of older/newer sets aren't getting the attention they deserve because of the sheer volume of options and peoples limited buying power. I believe in order to be successful the next couple of years you are going to need to be lucky and very diligent. Find the clearance deals, guess the correct sets (sets that aren't rapidly recreated, sets that are quickly retired, sets that have a lot of show time), and be very disciplined at not buying everything under the sun. Personally, I am going to tip toe my way through the next few years... Being patient... Let people realize the sets they really want is the Haunted House, Sea Cow and Red 5. And no matter how many 80 dollar play sets they buy will bring them the happiness my haunted house will.2 points

Although, it's not my cup of tea, I think they met the objective with the Disney Castle Set. The set is a gem, and as a collectible, I can see it have a base price at 350.00. However, there are some sets this year I think are overvalued. I'd say the Ghostbusters Firehouse, Batcave, and Attack on Hoth are about 20% higher than what they should have retailed for. I'll give them a pass on Big Ben, the VW Beetle, and Brick Bank. Although, the Brick Bank maybe should have retailed for under 150. I guess the point is, that the more they overvalue their sets, it makes me think harder about the purchase, let alone as an investment.2 points

So in other words, the only way for LEGO to win is not release it at all.2 points

@fossilrock I cuncur with your statements. In those statements lie the problem. We (AFOLs, resellers, collectors, etc.) are really expecting this thing to deliver for $500, but there is almost no possible way they can meet everyone's expectations. 1. It will be too much of display set, or too much of a play set, or too much of a hybrid 2. Someone wants a dozen minifigures minimum, while someone else will complain that it's too much like ewok village or 10188 if that's the focus. 3. Some will think it's too big, others too small. Too many pieces vs not the biggest set evah. 4. If it's too much like 10188, people will complain. If it departs too far away from, people will complain. I could go on and on, but I gurantee the moment the photos get released the bitc**ng and complaining will start a nanosecond later. It will probably make the comments on the Disney Cinderella's Castle look sane.2 points

But in all seriousness, at that price, I'm going to be really bummed if it only comes with like 5 minifigs and not 2 dozen+ like the last one.2 points
