I keep wanting to bug the orthopedics guys at work to borrow the fluoroscopy machine (it's like a real time X-Ray scanner hooked to a TV monitor). I'm convinced you'd be able to see all the details inside the bags in an instant. WHAMO!3 points

Fine, call it a statement. Why would LEGO made a statement to give people hope of future availability and not deliver ?3 points
-
Disagree. S@H said to check back in late fall. Why would they promise something they cannot deliver?3 points

I totally agree based on history. I predicted that for the Sandcrawler, Sail Barge and ISD before the refreshes were made public after seeing what happened with the original 7778 batcave which was night and day better than it's replacement. Now for refreshed sets like the original Batcave and Sail Barge, their values did slowly appreciate again but it took time. plus their appreciation rate wasn't now where like before. based on history, even original sets that were much better than their refreshes didn't rebound quickly. ISD, Sandcrawler, Batcave, many batmobiles, the original sopwith camel, etc... took a while for values to stop decreasing, stabilize and appreciate.3 points

BTW, thanks for all this people. This just reminds me I still have to get that box sorted. Is it just me or does it seem that these pieces in these bags are getting tinier and near impossible to decipher. Is that a gem or a head?2 points

I only analyse the market. There are very large supplies of 10188. If 75159 is a close and improved version of 10188 then that takes away the vast majority of customers in the market for 10188. Not many are going to choose an outdated 10188 if 75159 is basically the same set with highly detailed figs and improved build. It will also encourage the quick dumping of 10188 which is going to cause a very fast spiral downward in prices. Most resellers will be happy with break even or small loss rather than holding stock for 5+ years hoping for an eventual rebound. There are some collectors who must have every set of a certain theme but I don't think there are enough of them to absorb the mass exodus early on. If 75159 is not up to par with 10188 then you can be sure 10188 is going to the moon and I will be along for that ride as well.2 points

It's got a few quirks still but it works better on mobile devices. That said, the design wasn't the problem most encounter with the site. Responsive or not, if they can't handle the load, continue to mix and match out of stock messages and throw around retiring soon tags like its candy it'll be the same old experience.2 points

Thanks for this. Didn't look back far enough to find it. Also, I will ensure I include a number if I start a thread in future. Cheers2 points

Town Hall price continues to rise nicely - last 2 sales on ebay in the last 3 days were $595 and $592. ebay is a little ahead of amazon guessing because of international exposure on ebay. get with the program amazon sellers - bump your price up $30. under 100 sellers on amazon so we should see some nice price appreciation coming up.2 points

Don't know where to put this, but it does mainly apply to Star Wars. I wish in future UCS sets, they include duplicate sticker sheets. It can be frustrating building a $300+ set, nervously applying stickers, knowing if it gets messed up, you have no extras.2 points

i watched one of my local walmarts on app and waited for prices to drop 50%. This morning I woke up checked again, prices slashed, so I raced there. 2 x Kylo Ren's shuttle @ $59 each 1 x tie fighter for $35 1x super heroes set and 1x Jurassic world at $9 each. Plus few sets for a local fellow brickpicker (couple ties, one JW and few micro fighters FO snow-speeders at $5 each )2 points

I think a few things are at play. The Rogue one movie is a stand-alone but the center of the movie is the Death Star and the plans around it. Even if no one remembers that movie they will remember the iconic look up the Death Star and everything surrounding it. The other thing at play is the fact that this takes us back to the original Star Wars movie. This will pull at the heartstrings of the older fans of Lego right around the holiday season corresponding with the time that this set comes out. Everyone will flock to get their hands on a Death Star as Star Wars frenzy picks up again during the holidays. Disney has been around for a long time and while they make some mistakes they are not a stupid company. They will learn from the UCS Hoth and work to restore the value that UCS has as a branding on a set. My guess is a $500 "Cinderella Castle" style remake of 10188 with a 10143 side to it. Cinderella for the girls and Death Star for the boys. AFOL folks remember the New Hope days and recent Star Wars fans play off Rouge One. It's gonna be big, especially for holiday.1 point

Couple things. I'll reply in more detail later tonight. 1) read what I typed in my previous post in this topic about what refreshes / remakes do to the vast majority of sets. Yeah, people give me the UCS X-Wing refresh as the outlier. Look, the latest x-wing set greatly reduced the demand and sold auctions of the original UCS set. However, at least the original set still had a slow steady appreciation (very slow). 2) 10144's growth / value was still appreciating until the new Sandcrawler was announced. It's growth was not fully realized. Please see my posts in the 10144 and new Sandcrawler topics for pricing info to see what I mean. It was still going strong. 3. Despite 10188 being available at retail for many years, it's prob not as hoarded as you think. The set was very expensive and wasn't discounted for the last years of retail availability. If anything, I would wager (w/o proof though) that most investment 10188s are probably owned by 2 types of resellers : A) big-time sellers with 20+ or sellers with 1-2 each. I think people like me with 6 (or less) prob control a small % of the current and future 10188 market. 4. Buyers seem to always like refreshes better for various reasons. "Keeping up with the Jones", newer sets are either better or cheaper than the originals, etc..1 point

EU does not tend to be left out of major promos. I guess we will get it in September and US gets this... and yeah, it sucks major. The whole thing does not make sense. If you want to win you hit the car so hard that it flies across the room and breaks apart on the wall while destroying the cardboard base.1 point

Friendly reminder that your eBay bucks will expire soon if you don't use them. Just bought an eBay gift card with mine so I didn't have to make an unwanted purchase.1 point

Soon every city set will include a helicopter they even got one into the going under water line the only part of city not to have one is space.1 point

Now that I look, you're certainly right. At 1277 pieces, this is bigger than everything but the city square. I guess the RRP is fair. Honestly I wouldn't know it had 1277 pieces though if I didn't do the research. Also, as you were saying, it's the 2nd helicopter set in this series alone.1 point

May be as a non death star owner I am trying to reduce the price so I can get them cheaper by inventing this rumor1 point

I am not usually a complainer, but this set is a huge disappointment. Could have been an amazing set if they had put the time in to make it look anything like the source material, especially if they added a couple hundred pieces. So disappointed that this is what was produced...opportunity missed by Lego. I'll be buying it for $35 on clearance at Walmart in 12 months bc my kids want the minifigures. They haven't missed a Rebels episode and they didn't even recognize the ship...1 point

Had a pretty good weekend, for me. Probably best since I started a couple months ago. Sold a used Atlantis Neptune Carrier for $25 on BL, a new Batboat for $25 on BL (threw a couple of my WM clearance items up to see if I could get a little cash flow), and a new, opened Tumbler with a beat up box that I picked up a couple weeks ago for $300 ($175 buy-in).1 point

Just found this on a euro bricks thread might be a hybrid of both DS best of both worlds? Open fire on the Rebels with the UCS Death Star! This massive model has loads of great features, such as a spring loaded turbo laser, rotating turrets, a trash compactor, and meeting room! Close up the flaps for display, or open them to play1 point

I vote this down in favor of TLG producing Voltron sets first but I understand there are 68 million or so Power Ranger Millennials that disagree. #PokemonGO1 point

Very Lovecraftian, as Dr. Strange has always been. I'm looking forward to this and the movie. I could give a darn-diggity-darn about this as an investment. I want it for me.1 point
