Definitely my favorite build so far in 2016. My 7 year old son and I built a couple bags a day for about a week. Looks fantastic in the display cabinet + a lot of quality time with my little guy which is priceless. I don't have any for investment purposes, but the current promo(s) tempt me to grab one for a rainy day. Doesn't appear overly hoarded + it's super unique.2 points

Lego store $50 plus 10% IL tax. NEXO sold for $15 and shipping, castle knight sold for $20, also got 5% VIP back. with castle promo and my NEXO coupons I'll be buying plenty of $50 sets in next couple days... Plus Ferris wheel few days ago, I really like this set and personally think it will be an investing winner...2 points

By that time, there will be another 8 versions of the Tumbler or Bat Mobile. This particular one is safe in my opinion.2 points

You can interpret that as either they are producing less SOH and running down stock or the horde have made up their minds that SOH is retiring next and buying the set hand over fist, hence its OOS status. There was a time where one of the sets would have just sold out. These days however I think Lego milk the late surge of interest in sets, Pet Shop, EWOK Village. I'm sure SOH or Tower Bridge will be no different, kicking around for longer than expected. Even retailers are taking advantage, Smyths clearly saw an opportunity in the Tumblers retirement, buying up huge amounts of stock so they could push them all out long after everyone else had sold theirs. I expect this is behaviour we may end up seeing a lot more of now as retailers adapt buying and selling techniques to take advantage of the late surge of money for retiring sets.2 points

was in my local walmart, and noticed all the force awakens sets were reduced at least by 30%. 119 MF's, 64.00 Poe's X-wings, 55.00 Resistance Transporter, Mazy's Castle was 47, 15.00 Rey Speeders, 55.00 FO Ties, and after I cleared out the FO Transporter at 40 something a few months back, they had a new case sitting there at 71. Signs on the wall. These are all gone by christmas, IMO.2 points

You need to refer to the sales and use tax laws of the state in which you reside. The fact that you haven't set up a formal legal entity through which to make your sales doesn't matter at all. Up until this year, I have done all of my sales as a sole proprietor and have been collecting sales tax for several years.2 points

Oh man, and I thought I was good with the obscure references. Haha.2 points

Investing in LEGO sets is the best idea around. Either the sets increase by huge multiples in 6 months after retirement, or you just unload the whole lot to a BPer for what you paid. You can't lose.2 points

Sounds like a serious case of "I thought I was going to get rich from selling LEGO but it's too much of a hassle".2 points

I currently live in Japan and visited a merchant where I picked up the Carbon-Freezing chamber. I visited the store on a Sunday where a stock person was pulling around a cart with all of the new sets. I asked if these sets were for sale and he said "no, they will be for sale tomorrow". So I returned to the store the following day to find the sets available. I only purchased one, kicking myself now. There are currently no more for purchase. I have asked other employees by showing them a picture and they claim that they will not be getting or selling that set. I have also heard rumor that the United States may not get many or will be late to get them. Does anyone have any additional info on this set and if the merchant was just early to release? Thank you all for the input.1 point

Amen to all the people saying you need to look into this. I looked into the Sales Tax requirements about half a year ago ("Use Tax" is the proper term) and came to the conclusion that I had 2 options: 1. Not sell to anyone in my state 2. Do it properly and register as a Reseller. I went with 2. It was painless. Haven't had a sale yet (Ebay, BL/BO) where I had to charge tax (because I only need to charge sales tax for customers from my own state), however, setting up EBay and BL/BO to administer Sales Tax for me was a breeze. I have semi-annual reporting duties (first half year is due now) and I can just report $0. Plus, I have a nice Reseller certificate that I can use with Amazon.com and Walmart to make tax-exempt purchases (as long as they are for reselling - if I buy for myself I either need to not use the exemption or claim a sale to myself ). My motto: If you do it, you do it right.1 point

+1 I don't think the JW line will last much longer. Same goes for Scooby Doo I don't see either at retail anywhere. i didn't buy any of these sets for myself but I did like the clear gyro bubble thing included in some of the sets. i might grab some of the bubbles off bricklink if the price hasn't gone skyrocketing on them.1 point

Love these. They're getting more and more whimsical with the vehicle design which fits the product line. Gotta have them all!1 point

I actually just finished building a bricklinked 10179 in Bley with some black accents. I didn't just go for bley because new bley parts are more available, I wanted to also stock up on bley to build more star ships, etc. once I take the 10179 apart. The entire inside of the ship uses wahtever bricks I had in any color. It's not as if the lego designers made the perfect pick for every bit on the real ship - so why should I. Having a good looking ship IMO is more important than having the exact parts, since I am not planning to sell or collect this. I already had about 15% of the bricks, bought another 80% new, and about 5% used parts on bricklink and the Lego store. In Europe the total cost ended up being about 900 Euros. Here is a pic: ]1 point

While these sets are already officially retired, many can still be found for around MSRP. Here in Europe the Birds set is scarce and therefore has seen already a decent price increase. But in the US it's supposedly still widely found. This set pretty much flew under the radar of many investors, and only after it retired in Europe and the value went up people realised it. But as often said: Europe and the US/Canada are different markets and not every set behaves the same post-EOL in these two separated markets. Rapunzel's Tower and Heartlake Shopping Mall could still be found for around MSRP. Remains to be seen how these sets will develop in the coming years. My daughter likes Rapunzel's Tower and has one to play with. But I don't have any as an investment as I don't believe in the current Friends / Disney line as an investment series. City Arctic sets will probably do nice after a while. Arctic Explorers is a nice sub-theme in the City theme. Don't expect spectacular increases though. But one or two sets in this theme could be a hidden gem in the works... Brick Bounty is a pirate ship, and every single Lego pirate ship has done well in the past. On the other hand, the BB is not a really iconic ship and also discounted by Lego when it was close to EOL. In the long run (10 years, as you mentioned) this should do okay but for the same money invested there may be other sets that will offer a faster return. The mentioned Star Wars sets will do well for now, especially the ISD and the AT-AT. But Star Wars sets also run the highest risk of remakes. Even more so now Disney owns the Star Wars brand and Disney is all about milking their IPs down to the last drop. Of the newer sets you mentioned, there's a chance Poe's X-Wing may get replaced by the upcoming new X-Wing (75149) coming out this Summer which is more or less the same X-Wing but with different colours, different minifigs and a different setting. If that happens, then Poe's X-Wing might become a highly desired and collectable set. All speculation though. The Ewok Village has a good chance to go retired this year. If you can get it at a good discount it ought to be worth it if you are patient enough to let it (slowly) increase in value post-retirement. I doubt it will be a fast riser like the Tumbler or the Red Five. Regarding the Ghostbusters HQ and the Brick Bank, they have just been released and will be available for a long time yet. If you want to buy them for yourself (to build) through Lego LEGO Shop at Home, wait for a double VIP promo to get more discount on them. For both it's too early to already buy them as investment because they will tie up your money while you're waiting for them to go retired in 2018/2019, maybe.1 point

Don't ever underestimate the power of the Mighty Brick Bounty. I don't know what all the hate is for with some of the reviewers but this is a great play set, easy build for a kid, and if not for SW screams buy me for Xmas. It is almost same size as the BP and if you can pick it up in the low $60s it is a great buy IMO. I am going to grab another on TRUTH and MOC it.1 point

Pet Shop is the better Build in my opinion though thats probably because it reminded me of less fun build of my favourite set Green Grocer (it has quite a few similar technique though green grocer was better at execution petshop was about giving as much as possible for $150). thought Im going to say if I were to rank the current market modulars. 1. Parisian Restaurant (cuz its smexy, unique and rlly fun to build) 2. Pet Shop (2 Completely separate buildings great exterior petshop building is complete but the apartment is defiantly lacking interior wise except for floor 1 That bath was genius) 3. Detective Office (I liked this set but it was simple also wish they where separate buildings as well still love the water tower though great technique and the roof design on the hair dresser building) 4. Palace Cinema (Interior is really lacking, exterior is alright though It takes to much from the Chinese theatre in LA wish it was more unique. the build was alright as well)1 point

Lego Shuttle Expedition. A very strange build experience. I took this one on a business trip and quickly realized that the bags were not numbered. I scoured my room for ANYTHING to sort the colors in to, the ice cup (did you know there is the cup and then also a liner cup? Bonus!), the tray for the ice cup, the coffee pot tray, the ice cup liner... the build itself is very different and jumps around a bit to keep the techniques fresh. The landing gear was tedious but works nicely. The bay of mine for some reason does not open and close smoothly, you kind of have to manipulate the edges a bit, but it's mostly for display anyways. I don't get how both astronauts are supposed to fit in the cockpit with the roof closed so if any of you can explain that one to me... Stickers were scary, mainly because they are transparent and fingerprints came in to play. I think they came out alright though and this set is not going away any time soon. End result is great. New conversation piece for the work desk and can fiddle with it while on long meeting calls! Trying to convince my son that this was an actual space ship. He is trying to figure out where the lasers are!1 point

As we don't have a "What set did you take apart today" thread I'll put this here, today I disassembled and cleaned a 75% built QAR from a recent bulk lot, the rest of it is already sorted out. So I will put it back together tomorrow, take a few pictures, then take it apart again. I think this will be my eighth or ninth QAR, at this point I can nearly build it without the instructions. This is probably my favorite set that I have built, just a very well designed ship.1 point

Our five year old twins built Trevi Fountain this weekend. They love filmmaking and this is their third stop-motion video, but the first they have done with very little assistance!1 point
