I could fill the whole thread with pictures from this absolutely amazing LEGO Train display by PennLUG and Texas Brick Railroad, but will just post a few and a link to Cale Leiphart's Flickr stream which contains hundreds of pictures. It's got everything: beautiful trains, fantastic landscapes, wonderful buildings, great little vignettes etc...7 points

Built Berlin yesterday. It was a quick one. It's hard to shoot these short and tall little landscapes. That big tower in the middle poses issues when you have so little horizontal element to help balance the frame. I have a couple images where the entire frame is in focus. I stacked 2 images in photoshop and blended the focus so it appears as if the entire image is in focus. That's the photography side of me coming out, some would call that dark ages talk.6 points

Today is a great day. A great day that I wish to celebrate and share with You. All of You. Today is my two year anniversary as a brickpicker! Thanks for the laughter, the tears, the joys and sorrows. Thanks for facilitating so much LEGO accumulation at such great value. Thank you, for melting my mind with gift card wizardry, the truth of stacking the TRUTH and teaching me the difference between an incorrect correction and a babble bubble. Thank you for teaching me that one can always go derper. To you all-I love you. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand My wife hates you.5 points

Yes, let's all send money to the scammer. Then when he doesn't ship, eBay/PayPal can bail us out with other sellers' money (fees). Sounds awesome. Way to make crime pay!2 points

Unintended virality? I think they just made up a new term. This could be a game changer if other retailers start using this. Everything we do here could be considered unintended virality.2 points

SYW.com has a new promo: 30% back in points when you spend $25 or more on Marketplace purchases (which includes Target and TRU) - excludes Sears and KMart as usual. Promo details here. Funny part is in the language in the "see details": We reserve the right to cancel or modify the offer at any time in the even fraud, abuse, unintended virality, or if technical or other issues arise.2 points

No it doesn’t. 17,410,742 voted leave. 16,141,241 voted remain. That’s it. Done. To suggest that every time there is a democratic election / vote the results could be overturned and a new vote cast is truly terrifying.2 points

Not a day I'm proud to be British i have to say. I live in an area where 60+% voted Leave and I guarantee you that the reason for such a big margin had nothing to do with the economy or European meddling, they voted Leave because they don't like coloured people. How they think leaving Europe will get rid of British born Pakistanis and Indians I'll never know but hey ho. On a brickvesting note. All my forays on to European Amazon sites for cheap sets will probably stop now with sterling dropping.2 points

If you are trying to catch up on the books, you might want to check out Barnes & Noble. They have the new SW Chronicles of the Force for $11.56 (same as Amazon). DC SH is $13.66, though. SW Character encyclopedia is $13.94 (Amazon is $13.67). If you get over $50 in books, coupon code BNJUNE30 will subtract 20%. The coupon code will increase to 25% at $100 and 30% at $150. Now if you want to get super kick-ass, it would appear that the coupon code is doing some funny things... LEGO sets are excluded from the discount. No surprise there. Nor do they raise the purchase amount used to determine the discount level (i.e. $50 in books and $100 in LEGO set gives you the 20% discount, not 25%). But it appears you can get the discount to apply to your total order, including LEGO sets, with some careful sequencing (I didn't complete checkout to see if it actually carries through). If you work quantities in your cart, it will disqualify the promo code. I suggest channeling the zen required to hunt for SYW discounts online if you are trying to get this to work. To get it to the images below, I did the following. 1. Add the book to my cart 2. Go to cart and increase quantity to 5. (Raise the cart about the $50 for the promo code) 3. Enter the promo code. See about $10 in discount in the cart and indication that promo code BNJUNE30 was applied. 4. Add LEGO set to cart. See the discount increase commensurately. 5. Change quantities and the discount goes poof. Drop the LEGO sets, leaving only the books, and the discount still cannot be applied to order. You might need to clear history or go Incognito to make it work.2 points

You folks just can't help yourself can you? Ed is putting a lot of faith in this thread - more than I would have - so can you folks posting the inflammatory crap give it a rest? Maybe, just maybe, we can have an intelligent and adult conversation? So just to be clear .. - no name calling - no insulting other members - we don't need to label groups as smart or stupid to be smart or stupid - we don't need to be bigoted to talk about it - we should occasionally try to talk about what this all has to do with LEGO Can they do this that easily? How much autonomy do the member states with respect to trade/tariffs/etc?1 point

Well I'm deeply sad that I am about to stripped of my European citizenship and the rights that it bestowed on me - not least the freedom to travel, live and work in any one of 28 nations across the continent. That's thanks to a needless referendum called by a Tory Prime Minister to appease a far right of his party terrified of losing their seats to the little Englander UKIP. Those on here who seem so keen to see the break-up of the EU and celebrate giving Johnny Foreigner a kicking would do well to note that if it does happen, it will have been caused by the rise of the far-right nationalism espoused by the likes of Wilders and Le Pen and their acolytes across Europe. Both my grandfather and father were called up to fight on European soil in wars that cost millions of lives. The fact that I, at 63 years old, and my son at 33 have lived our lives within Europe at peace and generally in harmony is thanks largely to the European Union in its many iterations. As for Lego investing, frankly I'm too sad (and angry) at the outcome of this referendum to even care about the effect on sales of Star Wars lego sets.1 point

Why do you need to be so emotional in all of your responses? and why would you background check fellow European citizens who want to come to the UK to study, work or live? If you talk about refugees, the figure is far far below 50.000 in 2015 for the UK. Per capita, thats a very small number. I agree that the EU bureaucracy is very, if not too extensive at time. However, from a consumers perspective it is often benefitial for us (e.g. cell phone roaming fees were significantly lowered over the last couple of years only because the EU made pressure). One of the best things about Europe in my eyes is free access: for all EU citizens and companies. If the UK cannot stand eastern European workers (I guess that is the 350k you are referring to?), well then you cannot have access to the biggest single market in the world either. I respect the UK's decision but it's certain that it comes at a very high price. Just today 5 trillion Dollar in stock value were burned. 5.000.000.000.000.000.000 ! That is an insane number. In a more and more globalized world, which is politically dominated by the US, China and Russia, relatively small countries like let's say the UK, France or Germany do not have such a strong voice as if they stay united - in form of the EU. The time of the British Empire is long over. The UK is not a super power anymore (I am not saying Germany is either) and quitting the EU does not put them in a political or economical pole position. Instead, it will put them in the second row. I doubt that this is in the best interest of the youth and future generations. As for Lego I think that import customs will have to be beared by the consumers, a falling GBP will lead to higher Lego retail prices, and if the UK actually enters into a recession we could see values on the secondary market go down as more people than usually see a need to sell their Lego collections.1 point

Took a couple of days and finally completed Big Ben. The finished product looks amazing with the level of detail and finished look of the model. The build on the other hand was beyond repetitive - lots of x25 steps that you repeat over and over and over again - but I guess I knew that heading into it based on the images etc... but putting the clock part together was very enjoyable. Anyway looks great on display and price point seems decent based on how cool it looks.1 point
