Even bought some sets on Friday night and sold them on Saturday. A few notes about the sale Friends were a hot seller. Girls really liked those and having a selection was important. Duplos also were another hot seller – could have sold more if I had them. I sold CHIMA!!!! - $281 worth. It was nice to move some of that. Enough to almost cover my sand crawler. Now that is an upgrade in my mind I ran for three days this year. Last year I ran for two and since it went so well I increased it to three days this year. Super hero sets did not sell this year. Last year they flew off the shelves. Never assume what will sell. Have a selection so they can go through everything. Collector sets hardly ever sell. Really, only sold two sets that reached “collector status” in both years I have done this. You can sell current sets if the price is right (falcon, shuttle, etc.) So, anyway I took my profit and put it towards the family vacation and started to reinvest the original investment. So far – I have purchased three brick bounties from a local mom and pop shop that still had them at retail (99.99) per, a sand crawler (which I bought for May the fourth), a Tyridium shuttle, a deep sea helicopter, a rhino vs. sandman, nether fortress, desert outpost, general Grievous, batboat harbor pursuit, helicopter pursuit (2), and a boulder blaster. My moral, if you can do it, those small sets do payoff if you can sell them en masse. My second garage sale allows me to do it. Not everything has to be sold as small sets but if you sell 50 of them then that profit and effort is worth it. My second moral, if someone is willing to buy Chima – Sell it!!! Sell it quick and when they come back to buy another $100 worth of chima don’t let them see you do the “I’m selling my Chima happy dance.” - JUST SELL IT!!!! In case you were wondering 60117 was given to my wife to give to a friend. I counted it as a sale but hat is why it is a Zero3 points

It's actually 30% off. RRP on the Lighthouse is $49.99. (I know Target is showing their regular price at $40.99 and then 15% off of that is $34.84). (No, I'm not doing the calculations to check and see that's correct. Close enough for gov't work).2 points

Well I obviously FAIL at LEGO. Putting together my bricklinked 10212 (so having to use printed out instructions). My excuse is cheaping out on ink but I've got to the stand and seem to have 2 4x1 dark grey bits left when I actually require black ones. Worrying thing is I also have 2 x 1x6 dark grey ones in my pile as well which i'm sure shouldn't be right. Will I be OCD enough to take apart the shuttle and see where I went wrong? Absolutely epic model though and HUGE - dwarfs tiny Jango Santa. I'd heard the thing was big but I reckon it'll be the corner stone of my display. Fun build and I didn't actually find it repetitive at all. I knew it would be up there but having one put together its firmly in my top 5 sets. .2 points

So annoyed. My wife wrapped up the hoth poster in cardboard to protect it since it was still completely flat with no bends. Now we can't find it and think she might have forgotten it was in there and put it in the recycling. That was actually my favorite thing they have out on May the 4th.1 point

Ok I'm not saying these guys don't know what they're doing but just after ToO went OOS I got a mail saying that they'd ship me one as soon as it was back. Got a call 2 days later to say the person sending the mail was confused and that there would be no more stock of ToO available (so bad luck to me). Just saying that this could be unintentional misdirection. There was so much chatter about this being a limited run to German speaking nations only I'm not so sure. But seeing as though this turned up everywhere in Europe I wonder if TLG just didn't realise what the demand for these would actually be and as soon as the penny dropped they fired up the factories again. Ahhh... the speculative joys of what goes on the TLG boardroom (hopefully not too OT).1 point

I use free shipping on everything. But, I know the costs and build it into the price. Being in the midwest, anything less than 6 pounds can be shipped anywhere for less than $14. (Though it may be with Smartpost)1 point

Today, we are going back in time to almost three years ago (time flies!) and taking a look at one set that had the forums and the entire LEGO community talking almost non-stop: the LEGO Technic 4x4 Crawler Exclusive Edition. Unlike the majority of LEGO sets released throughout the years, the Limited Edition Crawler was designed through a fan base contest, with one of the conditions being that the creators utilized the chassis of the 9398 Crawler. The winner model was to be selected and produced as a limited edition of only 20,000 copies. Even since the winner was announced, investors and collectors were excited about the possibility of getting their hands in what many saw as a highly collectible set. Whether it was for resale, long term holding or just for personal collection reasons, the expectation was that such a unique set was bound to be extremely hard to acquire at retail price ($199.99). Months after the announcement, on August 1st 2013, the set was finally released to the public on LEGO Shop at Home and brick and mortar locations. As many expected, and worried about, 41999 sold out online the very same day, forcing customers to either hunt the set at retail location or source it from the secondary market. As one would expect, the hype surrounding the set meant that most brick and mortar locations sold out as soon as they put the set on the shelves. In turn, prices on eBay and other online platforms rose to close to $450, with sets selling within minutes of being listed as collectors worried about it becoming even more expensive, investors hoped for the next $1,000 set and, as some of you might remember, some even attempted to corner the market by acquiring dozens of copies a day. While I will not get into it, it is also worth mentioning that the circumstances surrounding the set generated a lot of controversy, and ethical/moral discussions popped up almost daily on some of the forum threads. In theory, it all made sense; LEGO released a set that was not designed by your traditional LEGO design team, limited it to 20,000 copies worldwide and, to top it off, included a number of rare and unique elements that increased collectability (first Technic set to use dark blue, chrome elements and a uniquely numbered license plate). Furthermore, the box and instruction manuals were both higher quality than average and added a little bit of value to the set. It had all the potential in the world to become an extremely sought after and expensive set in the long term, but as you can see from the chart below, in the end that was not the case. The set has almost completely stagnated at around $360, the price it finally settled at a couple months after the hype died down at the end of 2013. That’s a close to 0% gain for anyone who has been holding the set for the last 2 or so years! Clearly, the weeks after release were the most profitable times to sell the Limited Edition 41999. I sold some of these within this timeframe and took advantage of the hype surrounding it, but at the same time thought that the set had a lot of long term potential (as many others did!). Looking back though, the performance of the set has not been anything but a disappointment. While it is always hard to pinpoint the exact reasons a set is not as popular as expected, I think that there are some generally accepted factors that contributed to the Crawler not doing as well as expected. Technic has always been a niche market. While there is definitely a following to the theme, its popularity is nowhere near as close to some of the licensed themes, reducing the customer base. The set on which 41999 was based on, 9398 Crawler, was readily available until 2015. Given the similarities between the two sets, having a much cheaper version in the market could have definitely impacted the performance of the Limited Edition. The set simply grew too fast, reaching maturity shortly after its release. All the circumstances surrounding the set allowed it to reach its ceiling way faster than the average LEGO set, explaining the lack of growth since. So, knowing its past, what should we look forward to? Honestly, I don’t see how the trend can be reversed. I would not expect to see any significant growth out of this set, as I believe that if its unique characteristics have not generated any more interest in the past couple of years, there is no reason to believe they will in the future. Don’t get me wrong, this is still a cool model and a very interesting piece of LEGO history, so there is definitely a value in owning it. But if you are still holding it with the expectation of above average result, I would definitely take a few moments to reconsider and compare it with some of the better options currently available. Thanks for reading!1 point

In random order: Statue of Liberty because it was the first of the big landmarks Taj Mahal UCS Millenium Falcon Cafe Corner because it started the modulars. Prefer Green Grocer because better interior though. Green Grocer. Best modular in my book although Parisian Restaurant and Pet Shop come close. Black Seas Barracuda. My favorite set as a kid although only my cousin had it. Did get the reissue though. Emerald Night. Nicest train. Tower Bridge. Battle of Helm's Deep. I have tower of Orthanc too, and it's amazing. But Helm's Deep just depicts a better scene from the movie. Nr. 10 undecided.Haunted House, camper van, another modular, Orthanc, all good candidates.1 point
