I just picked up a used, complete 10179 from a trusted seller and forum member for ~ $2500 USD without manual or box. I want to build this set as it is my grail and have no intention of flipping. No regrets.6 points

Just putting a note out there that I am waiting on an updated data for the US from last month+. File was way too small to be accurate, that is what is holding up the price guide update. I will let you all know when I started processing it all.4 points

In my mind it is even simpler: During busy times they drop the limit to a low number, as they want to serve as many wanting customers as they can. During slow-times they raise the limit to get higher sales volume from a lower number of buyers. Come time for the next promo or buying season and those limits will go down again.3 points

We'll c. I just don't believe the Lego Group's production scheduled gets changed because of last minute increased purchasig of a certain set. That would be a nightmare to manage production that way and would delay the production of future (new) sets. Or maybe that is exactky how the release of 75098 Assault on Hoth came about. That that would be pretty bad is that were the reasoning3 points

I feel like, since it is a show that takes place in a variety of times and locales, pretty much any abandoned idea for most themes could be repurposed for Doctor Who. It would only involve a little bit of research to figure it out. 4th Doctor set with Sarah Jane and an Anubis headed minifigure, throw in some Egypt themed stuff and you have the Pyramids of Mars. Tribal warriors and a disused Indiana Jones set, you could add in 1st Doctor, Susan and Ian and you'd have the Aztecs. Reissue it in a limited edition in black, greys and white, and you'd be printing money. Basically, since the Doctor can go to any time frame, they can use space, castle, western, or any one of most of their properties. All they would need to do is create a few new molds for some of the aliens. They could even reissue just the tardis with some different decoration, or create a new console room or three to attach to the existing TARDIS.2 points

See I'd go with the opposite line of thinking. If you have a new playset that's not selling well, retire the alternatives to push customers towards your new product that you've invested in.2 points

Kids' bday today - Got executive permission to build something too, so we built: 41122 Adventure Camp Treehouse (still unfinished), 30398 Adventure Bridge (both my daughter's projects), 75102 Poe's X-Wing (my son) and 21303 Wall-E (me, yay!). My son, ever the charmer, wanted to give his sister a present too so he bought the Rey constractible from me that I got during the May the 4th sale at LEGO.com for $6.50 (no, I did not upcharge ). She built it immediately (Rey is her favorite SW character). Here's our breakfast nook during these festivities:2 points

Yes it is an app for meijer called mperks and you load in coupons maybe like Kmart shop your way. It targets coupons sometimes but I think the 20 % off now is for anyone with the app1 point

Another quick WM run off Cape instead of chores while the lady is a work today. Came home instead of my usual circuit just to be safe from the wrath. Back to chores. Also got a whole bunch of free He-man figures from one of my regular bar customers today too... I think there are some 80's Transformers in the box too. 4x 75103 FOT at $45 ea 4x 75112 Grievous at $17 ea 6x 76029 Iron Man vs. Ultron at $5 ea.1 point

Thats intresting, i dont think i have seen any hard to find products at a limit of 5 since september. Maybe TLG has decided that people with 5 children deserve the right to be able to buy 5 ewok villages etc, without being banned.1 point

If they have the licence surely the best approach would be a minifigure series. There's certainly enough characters to do so.1 point

Lego is buy one get one 40% off this week at Fred Meyer. If you're looking for Disney minifigs there were 10 cases at the Kirkland store (I-405/116th St) as of 12:30 today, didn't appear to be picked over much.1 point

I thinks that won´t make a difference - the "cheapskates" who bricklink sets like these are not the target market as it costs less than 5000 to bricklink a 10179. The buyer wants the full unopened MISB box experience and that is what they pay the premium for. Interesting to see that any sets listed for less than 1000 euros on ebay are getting sold quickly but the 1k barrier is proving hard to consolidate.1 point

I love how they built the whole MF in it's entirety instead of using CGI. This is what made TFA feel authentic. The number of sets, vehicles, and aliens they actually built/made is incredible. They cover a lot of this on the TFA blu-ray.1 point

Barnes and Noble clearance that a very nice employee went through and checked on a list for me to see what else they had on clearance. She found a bunch in the back, including 5 Mines. She was very happy to help me get a discount on Lego, and was asking me if I was going to build or if I was going to be selling them. 75% discount + 10% membership 2x MInecraft mines at $27 each 2x Chima Ice Mammoths at $22 each 1x Technic offroad racer at $16 1x Chima Icebite's Claw Drille at $121 point

Picked up 7 40121 painting Easter eggs at my local Kmart today. I have no clue why they were there. I check monthly to see why they have and these appeared out of nowhere.1 point

Not sure if my pics really do it justice but i got my final bricklink order in to complete a Helms deep and uruk hai army lot that I got 95% complete. Also added another Uruk hai army and went slightly overboard on eBay getting a few more elves, orcs and wargs to flesh it out. Massive LOTR fan and these make a great display piece IMO - just wish i had more room to fully do it justice1 point

I was pretty damn sure they were gone, there were enough of the warning signs there. No, I wouldn't have bought them at RRP, but that's not relevant to my point, because I'm comparing what I could spend my money on versus buying an SSD for $1,000 and I didn't need to pay RRP. I was pretty confident a remake wouldn't come that fast, past form gives us a bit of a gap, also we are probably going to have a 6 month window between us finding out about remakes and the buying public knowing. Hindsight would be the perfect business model, but without it we also don't know that the SSD isn't about to plateau, which would be the big risk to @Fcbarcelona101's cunning plan. Obviously knowing that the set is retired and you don't have to worry about competition from stores is a great advantage, but at 150% above RRP already, way too much of the growth is already gone for me.1 point

My son picked up this over the weekend. It's quite impressive when a Kindergartener is determined enough to save up months of chore money and garage sale money to get a specific toy. He wanted the UCS Slave 1, but I convinced him to go with this for playability reasons. Anyway, we opened it up and started on it last night, and we are both thoroughly impressed. The build will be complex, but at the same time entertaining enough to keep a little kid engrossed for quite some time. The ship will be quite hefty, but considering it comes with seven mini-figs and opens up, it will provide endless entertainment for him. I also plan to keep the box, just in case it is worth something when he is grown, which I think may be possible with the Han figure, especially considering what happened in the latest movie.1 point

The growth over the last few years on the UCS class of sets is not likely to continue. While I agree that the SSD set has room to grow - to extend that general reasoning to other retired UCS sets is misleading. The graph (especially since most have been retired for more than 5 years) is based on circumstances that will not be happening again - ever. Investing in LEGO can be a safe, reliable, and profitable investing option - Adding unnecessary risk for what would likely be a very limited gain (and even a potential loss) seems foolish.1 point

well, apparently the MF spends some time again on " Ahch-To " and a cool new building set of some sort.1 point

Yep. You can go on eBay and pay a fortune for it from our American friends. We also didn't get double vip, free shipping, any discounts or a stinky poster from SaH. Bah, dull is too kind a word.1 point

Tricky situation, but IMO your best bet is to .. - in the title, list the sets for sale using the set numbers, i.e. LEGO X-wing Fighter and TIE Advanced - Mini 4483 - as your very first line in your description, state Only contains parts for the main model as displayed in the photos. extra pieces for the bonus model are not included! (and then obviously put up a nice photo or photos of what they are getting and nothing more) And then move on to your regular listing style such as "bricks are clean, good condition" if applicable, etc. If a buyer is going to read anything, it'll likely be the first line. If you keep claims of completeness out of the title and put that disclaimer in the first line, then there is no way any sane ebay representative wouldn't support you in a SNAD case. It's those claims of 100% complete or photos that show items not included that get sellers in trouble in the first place.1 point

Right, it's not like TLG would ever change the design of a box during a products life span; that would be unheard of.1 point
