  2. Built this over the last week. Only my second Technic build so far. I really do enjoy how well the gears, chains and different linking elements work in congruence with one another. Although the builds aren't quite as enjoyable as standard sets the end results are really intriguing. (Street Motorcycle 42036) I opted for the Retro Bike build and there are ample pcs left over but it still looks bad a$$.

  12. Sure, it's not Zuvio, or Maz's minions, but I think it will add to the first order trooper count.. You should have heard all the crying last year when they announced Admiral Yularen. The amount of tissues being used in this forum took down many hundreds of acres of forest.

  13. Sold an Ant man final battle for £30 after fees. Buy in was £10 with TRU gift card. Also sold 9 Chicken Suit Guys with a total buy in of £4 since some were free from SAH and they were on discount at £1 each in Sainsburys and sold for £45 after fees.

  14. The average consumer who is blindly buying sets at retail is not the person who is buying expensive, retired sets. The people who are dropping $800+ on retired sets are well aware of what has been made before and are going to be much more aware of sets that are rumored to be coming out in the near future.

  15. I used a cardpool giftcard and the 20% coupon to get the TRU Sith Infiltrator and Spider Droid for $98. Good for a couple future reviews.

  17. I still feel all the doom and gloom is just being overdramatic. I honestly doubt there will be a huge crash in the lego economy like the recession. It'll be more of a correction in the sense that profit margins will get so thin, that it will naturally thin the herd or those casual investors, or those that don't know what they are doing. Eventually once those people that have no idea what's going on and all fire sell their stuff, and those that can weather the storm will be just fine. Yes I understand people's fears of remakes, but honestly, out of the thousands upon thousands of sets Lego has produced, they are still releasing cool new fresh sets. (This year being an odd one, only because the last 3 exclusives IMO suckkkkk major you know what.) Look at the new technic sets, possibly Big Ben, etc. We already had fantastic models in the GBHQ and brick bank. I feel the worry should start happening when everything becomes a remake or a direct copy. The Death Star, could still be significantly different enough to not hurt any value from the previous two iterations. If the Carousel is true, I doubt, that no matter how different it'll probably hurt the value of the old one. (I differentiate between the two, only because Star Wars fans will pay a price to have a complete UCS collection no matter who you are talking about, and I don't think the people who generally buy the fairground theme are going to exactly be clamoring to have both version of a carousel.) With the snowspeeder, just like the X-wing, I expect that one to take a hit a bit, but I don't think too much, only because of some of the parts and rarity of them will keep the prices high. You guys are also going hard on the speculation as if you know exactly what's coming out. I think you guys need to calm it a bit and just wait until more information trickles in and go from there. One thing I can say about this site, is that even though it has quite the significant amount of members, you know a bunch aren't active, and as far as the entire country/world is concerned, we're smaller than a drop in the bucket. The normal person doesn't follow the news and rumors and everything like we do out here. Most people will just walk into a store, and see a set they like and buy it. I will bet you anything that most people, probably don't even know that some of the 'remakes' are even remakes at all. I know when I first got into this game, I never realized the sets that I had missed out on in the last decade until I discovered this site and did more research. Mainly because I became a fanatic again like when I was a kid. So without knowing, the first few times I walked into a Lego store, I never would've known if anything had ever been released before.

  18. I'm like you. I buy any sets that are for my personal collection on the front end so I know I won't be caught short ( I made that mistake as a noob in 2014 with the Haunted House and Town Hall and ended up spending probably an extra $90 over RRP to buy the pair on eBay). Once I've purchased what I want for my own use, then I start picking up things for reselling purposes. Sure it screws with the theoretical CAGR, but I'm not likely to sell my personal copies anyway.

  20. Got this set on its way from TRU I'll also be opting for the second build rather than the main race bike build. Lots of MOC bikes use this set too.

  24. You need to request a pickup directly from UPS unless you have a regular pickup (or a vehicle that can haul your stuff to a dropoff point). Depending on size and bulk I either drop shipments off in the course of my normal day or schedule a one-time pickup (which can be up to $10-15 if you live in a "remote" area). Worth it when they're getting half a dozen 24" cubed crates, not so much for a medium-sized tower of smaller packages. Even with the added pickup charge the low overall fulfillment cost and knock-on price increase effects make FBA worth it to me.

  25. Likewise very surprised, otherwise I would have taken the other 50 that were left on the shelves. Didn't think they would move so quickly since it was a freebie and Sainsburys had literally shelves piled high with them in the run up to Xmas.

  27. I am just going to send my wife to pick this up, & I am going fishing. Lego has hosed us with this "VIP" set & my interest of even going to the event. And we have already complained about the bum polybag figure, perhaps the poster is the highlight this year? Cause we know sales prices wont be.

  32. Chima Flying Phoenix Fire Temple 70146 €75 cash (9 month hold, buy in €50) Arkham Asylum Breakout 10937 €238 shipped on ebay (11 month hold, €150 buy in) Only bought the Chima because the buy in was so cheap on a huge set, didn't think it was worth holding long term, so freed up cash flow there. Think it says a lot about the appeal of Chima, this was a €120 RRP set. I am now the proud owner of zero Chima sets, feels good. Arkham Asylum was one of the first exclusives I bought when I started investing last year, I might have jumped the gun on this, but there's so much negativity around this set that I decided to cash in early. I already have other purchases lined up of recently retired sets that I think will do well, so rather put the money into them.

  35. Carousel is 7+ years old. UCS Falcon is going on 10+. They're obviously going in a theme park/ride direction and STAR WARS is experiencing a resurgence. It'd be bad business for them to NOT remake these....particularly if the buying public/AFOL/people who have come out of their Dark Ages are asking for cheaper alternatives to the secondary market.

  38. I don't have really old sealed sets squirreled away so I don't have a dog in the reissue "Beetle/Grand Carousel keep for many many years because it will grow no matter what" fight... but I would be really surprised if anyone here really hadn't expected a company to reissue successful products in addition to new ones if the market spells clearly that it would be good for the bottom line. If they wouldn't do the appropriate market research and see the blatant gaps in the market they could serve, especially if it is a product gone for many years, I would consider them incompetent. That is something I consider with everything I buy that may have some sort of niche collectible value; doing it for LEGO sets I am squirreling away as well is not different in any way. The perceptions here I am sure are influenced by the fact that we scrutinise every little action, keep records of all past sets, see the similarities in the things that a consumer that views LEGO as just LEGO wouldn't care about. And all of us "prey" on the impulsive desires of people who want that set NOW no matter what the price. If it were that they just had to be patient... they wouldn't have even cared to buy something at those prices to begin with. How many of those people would rather hold out for months or years sniping on eBay or chasing things down on Bricklink, second hand shops etc in the off chance that they will be lucky enough to find one instead of just plopping down the money? In fact I would say it is more likely they would buy something else instead of the set they originally wanted to tide them over. P.s. Cue the bubble thread. Amazed it hasn't been brought up yet.

  39. This debate is a remake of the Series 15 debate. And the Series 14 debate. And the Series 13 debate. (Not the Simpsons series though - nobody actually cared enough to smoosh those awful angular heads.) Here's the bottom line - if you're smooshing to buy the figures you don't have, good on you for knowing how to feel for them. If you're missing one figure and you just keep buying $4 packs each day until you finally get lucky enough to get the one you're missing because you think smooshing is somehow unethical, then you're being a stubborn fool. And likewise, if you've already got them all but you stand in the Lego aisle at 11:00am on a Wednesday feeling up foil packages so you can clear out all the costumed figs or rarest figs or the ones selling for the most on eBay, whilst leaving the riff raff for little kids who will never get the figs they need because you took them all to resell them, then you're a tool. So find your middle ground. Don't be a fool, don't be a tool. There, it rhymes so it's the new rule. EOD.

  42. Some more information re: " From your experience, can you find retired sets from big box stores like Walmart and Target? " Different retailers have different practicies: For example, Target - corporate-wide has a pretty strongly regimented product life cycle on their shelves. They go through 2 major clearances a year (Feb/July) - and in general, they move out product even before it's "retired" from shop at home. Wal-Mart has a lot more freedom, and it can vary store by store, so OCCASIONALLY (especially in backwoods Wallies) find a retired set or two. Walmart also has a tendency to pile clearance items in storage, and then unload them onto the floor at various times, which allows the occasional old set to surface. Target does not do this. Other retailers, like K-Mart - have stuff on their shelves a lot LONGER. For example, at some K-Marts you can find things like Brick Bounty, The Ghost, even wave 1 Chima - All of which are "retired" on shop at home. And the ever popular Mechdragon, which just recently retired from Shop at Home. Toys R Us is the same way in that they have a lot of flexibility, and since they tend to overprice a bit - retired sets can linger on the shelves a while. "Retired" simply means the date it is no longer available at Shop At Home. Sometimes these sets can linger at other retailers for quite some time. A good example would be the Toys R Us exclusive "Hydra Fortress Smash" which I believe retired in November officially, but didn't get cleared out of TRU finally until a couple weeks ago. One of mine had a couple Black Gates 8-9 months after retirement on their shelves. And your own regional stores will have their own policies and gems.

  43. A lot will be coming in the coming weeks. Both of us have been pretty quiet lately. Getting away from the book, regular work has just been non-stop, but now I am moving into working towards an overhaul of the site. I always said this year would be the year for the Brickfolio. It will become a lot better.

  44. LLCA has two stores outside of the park - one at Sea Life Aquarium and another in the hotel. The selection in both is pretty limited, and as far as polybags are concerned, I don't think they ever carry polybags in either. LLCA doesn't offer a shopper's pass or entry into just "The Big Store." You have to buy admission. However, if you exit the park in under 60 minutes, they will give you a full refund. (They do that as their shopper's pass). If you buy $20 worth of product, you can a refund on your parking ($15), too. There are three places to find polybags - on the map below, they are "The Beginning" #4 (The Big Shop), #5 (Minifigure Marketplace), and Fun Town #34 (LEGO Clubhouse). Those are the three spots that I troll for polybags. Occasionally I find something at the LEGO Clubhouse that I didn't see at the other two. But otherwise, the two at the front usually have everything. The last couple of months they've had polybags there that I haven't really seen anywhere else, though. Plus there are a couple of small exclusives there (holiday sets, wedding set, etc).
