  2. At my store, anything I look at they say "it's retiring soon." It doesn't matter what it is. It's always "it's retiring soon"...

  4. This is a summary of the ads I found in the sunday newspaper, many of those deals have been posted before though, thanks to engaged BPs: 20% off selected sets at target, dimensions discount at best buy and TRU, flyer at TRU, 2-4-5 minifig at TRU, B2GO shipping supplies at office max depot.

  5. A year ago when I was a noob at this, a Lego store employee told me that Tower Bridge was retiring and that it would be their last shipment. Obviously, he was full of ****. As I look at the box in my storage, I find solace in the fact that it might make me some money in the year 2026. Never again Lego salesman, never again.

  6. "deceives office" sounds interesting. Today I built 41176 The Secret Market Place. The mechanism that allows the forges' hammer to strike the sword on the anvil is cool. Overall it's a really nice set though I think that the proportions of the green dragon are a little bit off. 41118 Heartlake Super Market I finished before is a good small set though it would benefit from having complete sidewalls. Also, I had some fun assembling the minidolls. As I'm always interested in adding cool printed pieces to my collection I wasn't disappointed with these sets. 41118 offered a new biscuit/cookie tile (the one with jelly), a sushi tile and a chocolate bar tile (upper row) while 41176 offers a grass/moss tile, a dragon banner and a book with dragon print and a dragon-print tile inside (lower row). The new food pieces are more interesting to me as I love LEGO food.

  8. So you went to the Lego store, with no intention to buy a Pet Shop. You inquired about it, and the manager gave you a sales pitch, and you bought 4? I don't get it......The store manager changed your mind, and you bought 4????

  10. Just making our way through the MF. Trying to have my 5.5 year old help with as much as possible. Pretty nice build so far, we're a little over halfway through.

  11. I'm a victim again. Sold all of my 9515 - Malevolence last year, but my son wanted one, so here we are. Got a decent deal on a used one.

  12. This set is very close to done IMO. Of course the supply on the secondary market is massive so we can expect plenty of " well at least it beats savings account returns" posts in the future. Time to take the modular market behind the barn.

  13. I absolutely think you did the right thing Ken. I was hoping you would stand strong and let the case play out. There was nothing to worry about here. A buyer made you an offer, you accepted, and then they failed to pay. If buyers are issued an unpaid item strike, they are not allowed to leave feedback. The system automatically prevents it. Think about it, how in the world are they able to leave feedback for a transaction they did not even pay for? As a seller, if it's not likely to cost you $100's of dollars, it's usually better to just swallow your pride, give the other side what they want, and move on. I really, really disagree with the above statement. I have always provided excellent customer service but I have never believed that the customer is always right. In this case, they were not. They failed to pay for the item they made an offer on. No problem with that, but I would not have cancelled this transaction. Again, if they do not pay, eBay will give them a strike. There should be no fear of negative feedback b/c they will be blocked from leaving feedback. I refuse to give in to customers that think they can do whatever the hell they want and will not contribute to further enabling buyers to think this way. This is exactly why some customers do this kind of stuff; unfortunately some sellers feed their habit. Great job Ken!

  15. I really miss the excitement over the VW T1. It really is awesome and most of what we hear nowadays is loathing over the fact that it is still around.

  17. My target the 20% off in today's add worked on the sets previously discounted. Not great but I got the hot air balloon for 15.00 as it was marked down to 19 then 20% off and elves sled with horses for $23 as it was marked down to around 30 from 39.99 then 20% off.

  18. Looks like it's $20 off your eBay purchase, whatever you choose that to be. If you need time to think about it, buy $100 of eBay digital gift cards

  19. Seriously? The longest released, most over-hoarded modular in Lego History? I take your post as jest. Your request is counter to any objective investment goal from any serious player in this game.

  20. That question is way too vague. Satisfactory to who and for what purpose? The goal of the individual investor is different and at different levels they reach satisfaction. The investment angle "How to make money" is extremely hard to quantify and determine how to make money .The At-At, Imperial Star Destroyer, Town Hall and Brick Bounty are all good examples of sets that have good one year potential to review, The Super Star Destroyer is also a good one. The Star Wars mini Sets - series 1 might be worth a look as well. Just some ideas...since you asked. But everyone is going to have different ideas. THe Mack's (they run this site) wrote a book on this and there is a lot of information there in a bit more of a concise presentation.

  22. Recent weeks, I've been building modular buildings one set per week. So far I've built PS, PC, PR and GE. I'm also working on a project to bricklink 10182, 10185 and 10190.

  23. The bags inside were new and everything was there. I don't really understand the issue. Being this long into retirement, there is a good chance this person popped the seals to make sure they weren't selling you a tampered box (you should appreciate that). I also don't understand the outrage if you're going to open it. Also, if you already have the playset why didn't you just buy the minifig?

  25. Well so it should be. I'd be disappointed if it said "used" at the prices they charge.

  28. They most likely were not tampered with. Rather they popped and then restuck.... poorly. Since all is there and you were going to open it anyway feel free to leave good feedback. Please do message him to let him know that the seals were popped. This will make him more careful in the future...hopefully.

  29. Finally had time to make the 2+ hour trek to Atlanta to one of the LEGO stores for double VIP and picked up the following: 1. 10240 Creator Tower Bridge for $239. Wifey says "the Tower Bridge is mine, and I haven't built it yet. Why don't you buy the damaged box one they have today for me to build and we can save the pristine box one for a rainy day" 2. 71006 Simpson's House for $199 (I decided my recent BN Kwik-E-mart acquisition needed a friend). I picked up an extra 1000 VIP points because the seals were loose on one flap of each box and the manager had to secure them with some extra clear tape. As they are both for personal builds, I welcome the extra $50 discount. No other box damage noted. 3. Complete set of 9 figures from Mixels series 7 for $45. I've only seen these in person at one store so far, with no discounts available. Double VIP seemed reasonable. 4. Pitates chess 40158 for $49. My boys want this this set for Easter, so wifey told me I was buying it. I know better than to argue. 5. Easter chick 40202 for $10. Wifey hands one to me and says "why don't I have one of these yet, they're cute?" (Of course I have 5 coming in the mail Monday). 6. 3 X Ninjago KAI's mini dragon 30422 for $0.

  35. Stupid question time! I'm new to this forum, so I just wanted to know: is there a forum thread concerning good/bad investments? Or do I need to ask that question here? I'm considering investing in some sets, but I need some experts' opinions. Thanks!

  36. Yup, double buy-in before fees would seem to be the expectation. You can get that on most SW OT stuff for a lot less hassle.

  38. Great review! Loved it, good detail, I enjoyed the side by sides. I am buying these for my son in the very near future, we are huge Batman fans. I am glad to see some micros builds other than star wars, two thumbs up! I will probably buy the Flash vs Captain freeze set, (even though I wasn't planning on that one) just for the plow car, & add Mr. Freeze from the upcoming polybag promotion, that will make the boy very happy, we are not Flash fans, just Batman for us!

  39. Opened a new ocardo account via TCB received £20 off first order + £6 cashback. Ecto1, found on Google symths were selling for £30 at some point, all sold out as usual, showed the page to a friendly check out girl at TRU, she was happy to price match!! Shuttles were via Very, again opened new account via TCB to received £14 back. Used a Amazon gift card for the Mansion using the £7 promo deal they was doing a few weeks back!

  42. Couldn't find one at TRU, or is this one of those "damaged boxes so here's 1000 VIP points" kind of deal that my teeny-tiny LEGO Shop never seems to offer?

  43. On a box that size you'd hardly notice

  44. Agree: 20% off + 2 x VIP + Chicken Suit Guy + Kai's Mini Dragon is the definition of a good deal in my book.
