Yeah, it's pretty sad. No deals get posted & yet every time I post, it turns into a debate. Either buy it or don't buy it. Sad...9 points

Why are people comparing an exclusive set to collectible minifigs? CMFs are a massively overproduced $4 item, of course you're not making money off of them.5 points

Get out the flowers and chocolates. 25% off at Disneystore.com with Promo Code HOPDAY (assuming you order the limit of 2). Free shipping over $75. Works out to $63.72 each since their original price is $84.95. Just over 20% off by a fraction of a percent. I didn't check anything else, since I followed BP rule #1. (Get mine before taking the time to report).4 points

So your girlfriend tolerates Lego? She lets you indulge in your collection? She doesnt mind that you like "putting tiny bricks together as a grown man?" She doesn't draw frowny faces ): in permanent marker on every brown cardboard box she finds on the doorstep? And she even wants to build a 2,000+ piece exclusive on her own? And your biggest problem is ... which set she wants to build? .......... On an unrelated note, I am looking to unload a dozen used 24x20x6 boxes. They're in great shape but each one has a massive angry face /; drawn on it in black sharpie. Some faces are angrier than others.4 points

The Proposal Looking at one and done themes, both in terms of one wave and an availability of one year (and change), can an investor learn anything? Short answer: maybe. Long answer: maaaaaaybe. I'd like to spend a little time talking about the Castle theme. Availability from brickset.com lists May 28th, 2013 to December 22nd, 2014. Yes, I know this might be stretching the aforementioned 'one and change' but actual production was likely much closer to one year with the later EOL date the result of stock being depleted after the final production run. Let's get started... The Forums The Castle 2013 thread was essentially a discussion of why the 2013 was inferior to Kingdoms and other earlier iterations. Little talk of investment potential or future projections, and not too much chatter even as EOL approached. Many liked the dragon in Dragon Mountain. Some didn't. The 70404 King's Castle thread was similar. It started with a bang – a divisive set from the get go with some forum 'bantering' about the overall 'kiddiness' or 'juniorization' of the set as well as 'discussion' in the form of wild speculation (even before the set was released!). I was pleased to see I posted in that thread! Go me! It wasn't my best post, but certainly not my worst. I give it a B- grade. (See it on page 1 of 3 in the 70404 thread). The best information that can be gleaned from the paltry three pages came courtesy of J-Mack, who (I'm paraphrasing) thought King's Castle would hit $200 tops. Amazon has it at $199 as of mid-February 2016 so it turns out the guy might have a pretty good understanding of the Lego secondary market. One factor that might prove him wrong – well, not wrong, per se, but perhaps too conservative, is the lack of a similar replacement on the horizon. Nexo Knights doesn't seem like much of a direct competitor, so perhaps Christmas 2016 will see prices somewhere between $220-240? The CAGR (US) Data taken Feb. 2016 Set # Set Name CAGR% (BP Data Feb 2016) MSRP (US) 70400 Forest Ambush -0.06 $11.99 70401 Gold Getaway 2.98 $19.99 70402 Gatehouse Raid 8.95 $29.99 70403 Dragon Mountain 10.7 $49.99 70404 King's Castle 25.57 $99.99 I think the Gatehouse Raid got a little boost from the fact that it can be used to expand 70404, and was a little surprised that Dragon Mountain wasn't a bit stronger. King's Castle hit the sweet spot. While 70404 was probably harder for most folks to get on clearance, I think it is reasonable to assume that many got it with a solid discount and have had the opportunity to double their initial investment. As for the smaller sets, I think I take away from this that money could only be easily made with deep clearance sales. I recently passed on some of the smallest set from the Pirates theme at nearly 50% off, but did end up biting at 75% off. Of course, smart investors can always bundle some of the smaller sets with 70404 but my personal experience selling King's Castle over the holidays was 9 solo sets to 2 bundles. What Did We Learn? The forums didn't really provide a lot of useful information. In fact, the forums might have dissuaded folks from buying these to their own detriment. I think we also learned that the largest set in the theme provided the best total profit as well as the best CAGR%. It tells me I should probably get out there and get the last of the Brick Bounty sets still in the wild, for one, and that I can probably pass on the other sets in the Pirates line (no good comparison to Dragon Mountain or even Gatehouse Raid). It also helps me look at other themes more critically to try and maximize profit. Veegs3 points

Target has their exclusive Friends Jungle Tree Sanctuary 41059 20% off ($24). May have to pull the trigger on that. http://www.target.com/p/lego-friends-jungle-tree-sanctuary-41059/-/A-15282885?clkid=d064283bN2259910a90152e8ef7a240c6&lnm=78775&afid=Brickpicker&ref=tgt_adv_xasd00023 points

Prob a couple of things. 1) friends was the only girls theme in 2013. By the holiday 2014 months, Disney Princesses were plentiful on the shelf. 2) Lego prob increased production to not repeat the holiday 2013 debacle parents not being able to find the Dolphin Cruiser. 3) the DC was a year older so interest was lower in 2014 and kids wanted other sets.3 points

Went and tried out that Blue Render app. Very cool stuff. I ran into a problem with my MOC; the 1x4x5 arches only come in light tan, and the 1x2 masrony bricks only in dark tan. I wanted the masonry brick effect, but I didn't like the blocky chunks of different colours. Went in and did some plate bricking, I think the effect is much nicer, but still not sure I'm satisfied with it. The renderer really makes it look pretty though! Projected cost via BrickOwl: $550 CAD for 1843 pieces. And back around the time I joined up, I was working on reverse engineering a MOC I'd seen online. Tried getting in touch with the creator to no luck, so went into LDD and built my own. Pics were posted before this thread existed, but I fired off a render of it today for fun; probably lots of new users who never saw this. As more work gets done to BluePrint for Mac, I'd be happy to generate instructions for this little guy when it's ready if anyone was interested. Happy to share my .lxf as well. Comes in at 298 pieces, and is quite a fun micro build with some neat techniques.3 points

I have a bit of a polybag obsession, in that I buy about every one I see that I don't have (2 or 3 copies). My stash has outgrown it's storage. Been selling them right and left on BL. I rope them in with poe xwing Polys and sybiotes, and the leave with city, friends and even a kai drifter3 points

The Thing that gets me all the people who say a set will be a dud and will not get any, but as soon as the set is getting ready to retire thats when at least 50% of the ones who said they weren't getting any really start to panic and scramble to get some, its just the way it is. If you can afford it at least get a few of each of them.2 points

Leap Day deals are coming in via email. I haven't been to thinkgeek.com in a while... looks like they hardly carry Lego anymore. But they're having leap day special 29% off orders over $29, today only, with online code FROGGER. Haven't tried it, but looks like you could get a couple 41035 Friends Juice Bar for $22 each, or 79014 Dol Guldor Battle for about $50 each (need to get over $75 for free shipping).2 points
