  2. Buy everything that's either on sale and/or in a pink and purple box. Exo Suits are near the end of their life cycle, AND on sale. I'd buy at least 50-100 of those. Chima is being phased out. Now is the time to load up. Welcome aboard the money train. Next stop, Profitville. You'll be thanking me six months from now when all of these sets I just mentioned are selling for five times what you paid for them. Welcome to the club. Glad to have you.

  9. Started filling in the green plates and placing all the tress and such over the weekend. Still missing a lot of large leaf/tree pieces so what you see here is not the finished paddock interior. Also finally got the Goat figure and he will go where the horse currently is (along with a couple fence pieces and a chain around him). Instead of getting more expensive palm trees, i decided to go with brown 1x1 cylinder pieces and just pile them on top of each other with various leaves put on throughout. However piling these too high makes them unstable, so i just slid in some minifig wands/lightsaber blade pieces to strengthen it. Originally i was just going to do a little river/pond on the left side, but the paddock interior felt a bit boring with just trees. So i had these light trans blue 2x2 round Chima pieces from the PAB wall that looked great to make a waterfall. And then if i did a waterfall i would obviously need some sort of rock face. And luckily i had a generous amount of parts on hand to make a pretty decent looking build. Not entirely happy with it yet, but it will do for now. I also played around with somehow lighting up the waterfall from behind with some small brick LED's i have, but not sure i really liked the look. I'll also probably add the little Compy from "Gallimimus" trap to the inside of the cage (not movie accurate, but book accurate, someones gotta eat up all that dino poop :3) and maybe the Pterodactyl flying above the waterfall. Should have the rest of the pieces to finish up this week. Once the fences are placed and I've got the monorail tracks on the road.. it will all really come together and look awesome. This is the first time i actually picked the thing up, and it is just as sturdy as i planned which is great.

  13. First rule is to open every new set you buy and count the bricks, you must count the bricks. Also, when new sets come out, that's the best time to load up on them, buy as many as you can, future buyers will appreciate first runs.

  14. Some interesting info and no doubt some useful advice for Gazza. I've only been doing this for a year now and I'm pretty small fry but I am fairly business savvy (in addition to loving lego) and in my short experience Ive learned some lessons which I'd like to share. I did get some Dr Who sets from Myer during the sale and I was shocked at the speed at which they were gobbled up. Furthermore, on Facebook I see more and more (ad nauseum) lego fans posting "to build or store away?" (insert Iron Man eye roll here). I feel like to my mind sometimes I'm going from bull to bear in the course of one day. It's strange times indeed. A race to the bottom perhaps? Ideas and modulars are way too hoarded, and, while I believe that money will be made on them, I don't believe that 100% ROI will be achievable. Alucard has addressed this topic a few months ago and, while initially skeptical with beer-goggles on, now I believe him to be right. The days of doubling in value will not apply to these IMO. 12 month cycle? You can maybe tell that to my one Birds set, but not my 11 Ectos (which used to be a higher number before I liquidated a few at Xmas). Dr Who is almost literally flying off the shelves, so why would TLG pull the plug on it? Perhaps they got a 4 year licence for it? I've never ever known of a company that makes such strange business decisions as TLG so WTF knows. Maybe the Delorian has tripled in value, but what about the Exo suit or Research institute? They've made money, but they are really small sets and you would have to sell a few to make any decent coin. At the beginning of last year, my targets were Palace Cinema, Pet Shop and Ecto. All are still collecting dust. There's a lesson to be learned there. Dark Years has a point about international resellers. It is a real phenomenon that's a perverse form of globalisation as well as being a massive waste of fossil fuels. However, 11th hour purchases at retail price for just-retired sets has worked well for me. You need to do some legwork though. Even those sets haven't doubled in price yet but we'll see how they go. New listings seem to appear frequently even for highly-prized sets that were retired after less than a year. I can see many sets plateauing indefinitely. My biggest wins have been smaller sets which have flown under the radar and most of which do not have their own thread on this forum. I won't say what they are because at this stage in the investing game I reckon it's better to use the info you have and keep your cards close to your chest. I can tell you, however, that over the last year my return on investment (after expenses incl fuel) has been anywhere from 15-100% but no more than 2x RRP, with an average of 40% and a lot of time put in hunting, stalking forums/blogs, packaging, listing items and kindly telling GT lowballers that my price was specifically stated as non-negotiable etc...

  21. LOL, his initial post was something along the lines of "I don't care about this stuff, I think it's stupid. Tell me how to make money on it since I read in an article that you can." After that he got some "helpful" suggestions about sets to buy, including this one. If his attitude doesn't completely alienate people, his lack of interest in the product will cause him to follow fads and burn out on the product long before he realizes significant returns. Until then, I still think he should pick up Nexo Knights and Chima, get in on the next big thing at the ground floor and scoop up the last vestiges of a mighty theme in the clearance racks.

  22. They are not making a mistake for us. For prices to rise for the mid and long term holders the supply has to diminish.

  23. See, there's the big difference. You said that you come back every day to read more. Someone popping up saying, "I care nothing about this stuff, just give me your hard earned knowledge because I am following the flavor of the week." gets as much valuable information as they invest their time in. He mentions Funko Pop, Magic and Pokémon. It's pretty obvious that he chases the easy dollar with the fast turnover. Hell, Magic and Pokémon have their rarity already known the moment you open them.

  24. Oh and don't forget ... interest on a credit card is only 20%, and LEGO profits are easily 100-200% within 6 months, so raise your limits and buy as much as you can find. UHaul trucks are pretty cheap to rent.

  28. Yeah...whatever...instructions are the new pseudo proof of originality. Without them, you should assume it's Bricklink'ed and you are basically paying him for his time in getting all the parts. Not worth it if you have a decent collection of parts and are willing to put in the time and effort yourself. That's why it's been sitting for so long. Anyone willing to pay that price is a serious collector. Any serious collector that's OK with not having the original instructions would just bricklink it themselves since only a few parts are rare and expensive. It would be a different story for a green grocer since the correct sand green bricks are essentially impossible to get in the correct quantity.

  31. I kind of wished LEGO would have made the reissue of the Chicken Guy unique with say a recolor to yellow and maybe have a lady in the suit instead. She would fit right beside a box of Peeps for starters which is an Easter specific treat. The reissue is not surprising considering the holiday. I only hoped for something altered similar to how the zombie in the Halloween Accessory Set was wearing basically a different toned suit compared to the original Series 1 Zombie but at least something was changed for variety sake.

  34. I think your initial tone may be a little over the top for most LEGO fans here. Please try to be a little more positive concerning the product we support on BrickPicker. You may be able to come to your own conclusions by reading some threads and ask relevant questions based on what you discover. I understand you may have a been lurking on the forums since you read some of the recent news reports, but you really need to do some research, especially before dumping your money into sets that are now being hyped. There are always other opportunities down the road and you don't need to jump in head first.

  39. What people mean by creativity on 75098, is just the fact that it's so plainly detailed. If you can call that set 'detailed.' The problem is, it's a 4 in 1 pack of a bunch of smaller sets combined. That's where it falls apart for people. I'm sure if they picked like 2 main things, like the actual base and the ion cannon or something and added more stuff for an actual assault, I think you would be hearing a different tone. So yes, Assault on Hoth is lacking in creativity IMO. It's trying to be ok at too many things instead of being fantastic at one thing. The problems with Ninjago, Nexo Knights, Chima, etc, is the fact that it is primarily directed at kids. (Yes, I know ironic.) But you have to look at a sets viability years down the road when people come out of their dark ages. Are they going to want to buy all those sets for a theme they missed out on?? Maybe...maybe not. I know I was a big fan of the Aliens sets that were released in the 97-98ish era, but I'm not going out of my way to get them either. It wasn't as important as a theme like Star Wars, etc.

  42. One of the biggest pieces of advice you'll see around here is to be mentally/emotionally/physically invested in the product you're selling. Maybe with Funkos, Magic, Pokemon you don't really need to like or know the product... but with Lego this is certainly not the case. Market research is key to succeeding in this reseller market. Not all Lego is created equally. You have to know (or have a good gut feeling) about the popularity of one set versus another, and use that to your advantage. Stocking up on a bunch of stinkers that nobody wants to buy while they're on the shelves is not going to earn you "easy money" [the articles are all wrong, none of this is easy by any sense of the word besides perhaps the buying part, and even then finding the right sets and the right discount rates is tricky]. Picking the right sets, purchasing them at the right times, and holding them until the opportune time [their peak] to resell them is how you make great gains in the Lego business. Unwillingness to know or learn the product and the market you're selling that product to is a recipe for failure. You said you've been around for a couple of weeks. I can tell you with certainty that you haven't read enough on the forums yet. Two weeks simply isn't enough time to get through all the key pieces of information about this business. Keep the research up. You may quickly decide selling Lego is not for you, and sticking to the Funko's might be the better use of your cash flow. Not trying to discourage you outright, but yea.... do your research mate. This isn't easy money, especially when folks like yourself jump into the fold by the 10s every day....increased competition ramping up drastically due to all these news articles about 'Lego is better than Gold'. Be aware of this as well.

  43. If you look over LEGO's terms for past promotions, they specifically call out one promo item per household. However, most people do not seem to have a problem placing an order, and then placing other orders, and getting multiple promos. That could always change, and is probably subject to availability and abuse.
