1 - Children 2 - Teenagers 2 - Parents of Children and teenagers 4 - Investers While Lego do cater for the AFOL, their primary market is children and teenagers. This will be the third wave of Minecraft sets (4th if you include Microworld), Minecraft is clearly a lucrative line for Lego with the game having a huge worldwide fanbase. Amazon's Best selling building toys consistently show Minecraft alongside City, Star Wars, Super Heroes and Friends. It makes sense for Lego to release a large exclusive set for the theme and follows off the back of Super Heroes and Ninjago. Whether Minecraft transcends well into Lego bricks is debatable and doesn't represent a true reflection of what's a good seller and which will be profitable. As adults we view Lego in a different light to that of a child. It's no surprise that the most heavily hoarded sets are the ones that are most aesthetically pleasing on the eye. We tend to look at sets based on strength of theme and their displayability, a child views a toy as a way that allows them to engage their creative imagination as an extension of what they see in cartoons, movies and games.5 points

Not sure if HTML works on these forums (put picture in spoiler), but here's a quick picture of my bricklinked model. The worst yellowed bits are the 1x12 bricks on the top fin. I plan to de-yellow them like the good advice in some previous posts, but right now it's the middle of winter, so I'm lucky to see any sun at all! It actually looks better in the photo than in real life since it's harder to capture the slight color variations and such.5 points

But when Saturn is in alignment with Neptune and Mercury is in retrograde, Lord Xenu will rise up and smite every third and seventh Palace Cinema in your storage. Win Pet Shop. You can of course avoid this by scrawling 27 on each of your PC boxes, but most hordlings won't because doing that will affect resale value.4 points

@Bold-Arrow I like how you went to every thread and told us to resubscribe here. It reminds me of high school, when someone runs down the hall popping his head in to each and every classroom real quick to make sure everybody knows there's going to be a fight in the parking lot at 3:00pm. Thanks for the heads up.4 points

This is so true. I'm assuming many will continue to stock up on Pet Shop with the assumption that it's next in line to go. However Palace Cinema has been in production for three years which is easily a considerable enough timeframe to be considered for retirement. It's also a corner building and following the release of the BB it wouldn't be unfeasable to see Lego want to retire a corner. Plus if you factor in Pet Shop outselling the Palace Cinema it's not easy predicting which will be the next modular to retire3 points

So this is what you'd like: In a world without hoard-inducing speculation, graffiti cat bides his time waiting for PR to retire.3 points

What the heck are you talking about man? FO?? Is that First Order??? Why not FA for Force Awakens? I'm assuming you're referring to the Ep.7 sets right?? If so...where is this hidden inventory of which you speak...or where are the trucks3 points

This is a project I submitted to the Lego Ideas page. With this idea, literally existing or MOC can be "turned" into an active movie set/TV stage. The possibilities are endless. Check out the pic below and if you think this is something that deserves to "potentially" become an Ideas set please click on the following link and show your support. "Make Any Set a Movie" https://ideas.lego.com/projects/130691 Thanks for looking and kindly spread the word!3 points

A seemingly credible source on EB says that the 2016 Winter Village Seasonal set will be a new Christmas Train. We haven't had a decent real train in a while, and with last year's rehash set there are Winter Village collectors eager for something new. If they do this set well, it will be an investment winner due to the double category demand. If you are still hanging onto 10173's you may want to sell off any stock before the official announcement and pictures.2 points

I know I bought the First Order Snowspeeder in order to get the C-3PO polybag. I wasn't exactly excited about the looks of this thing before Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens was released, but I assumed it would get more interesting to me once I saw the film. I figured I might review this LEGO set with added appreciation once I had seen it in action. So I stuck 75100 on a shelf to age like a fine wine. The First Order Snowspeeder did not make a triumphant and exciting appearance. The enclosed Snowtroopers didn't battle valiantly against anyone. 75100 sat quietly on my shelf, waiting for a time that didn't seem likely to come. When I review a LEGO set, sometimes I have to hope that what I get is more than what I see. Let's see if this set wound up being more interesting than it first appears. REVIEW: SET DETAILS Set #: 75100 Name: First Order Snowspeeder Theme: Star Wars Parts: 444 Price: $39.99 Before we get to the build, let’s talk value. At 39.99 the price per piece works out to about $.09 each. This is on the low side of pricing for a licensed set. There are 3 minifigures. The minifigures are 2 First Order Snowtroopers and 1 First Order Snowtrooper officer. The only difference is a red shoulder pauldron and the weapon that you give the officer. The same Snowtrooper is available in the First Order Snowspeeder microfighter 75126 without a skirt. BOX CONTENTS Some people may wind up picking up a set that is open box or, want to verify the box contents before beginning a build. For this set, there are 4 numbered baggies, a large sticker sheet, and an instruction book. THE BUILD AND EXECUTION BAG 1: You start the First Order convertible pretty much like every other ship in the universe, layering stuff to give an approximate shape. It does make me wonder sometimes, why do we get stuff like these grills that are just going to be buried in the build? Is it just to give MOCers something to use? This convertible is starting to look like the finished product. Sadly, it hasn't really been terribly interesting to this point. There's a couple hinges to help shape the chassis. With this number of brackets, we're obviously going to be sticking stuff to the outside. I hope it's not just panels. Hey, look, it's a panel with a sticker. . . yay. The most interesting thing of note is that they went SNOT on the edges. So we know that we are done building up the walls of this jalopy. First Order Snowtrooper Officer has the red shoulder pauldron that you also get with the First Order Officer in Kylo Ren's Shuttle. Plus you make him a special gun by adding a white lightsaber handle to a blaster pistol. BAG 2: The stickers awaken. Fr people who love putting stickers on LEGO, this is the bag for you. 7 additional stickered panels get added to the outside of this thing. We start adding something to the underside. I was surprised because I thought the body was fairly skinny. but obviously we're adding something tall to the underside of the structure. Oooo, it's clear wheels in a bunch of Technic pieces. Now it will give the impression of floating as it sits in the background of scenes. Attach the Technic construction and start to try to disguise that the whole thing is there. (A side note. I have no idea why that light bluish Gray Technic pin gets put in there on both sides. Nothing attaches to it.) Turn it right side up so that it can hoer and disappoint the way it was always intended to. BAG 3: What's this? 2 Axels stuck together in a box? now it gets crazy up in here. I am not a fan of the single stud shooter, but this crazy 6 stud shooter has a charm that I can't shake. I mean, who doesn't want to rapidly fling 6 studs as quickly as they can into the dark corners of a child's room? Attach the knob do that you can most efficiently launch your projectiles. Snap that bad boy onto the structure. So, now we've got 2 little pea shooters on the front and a big honking gun on the side. And replicate it for the other side, and we should be all gunned up, right? We need to greeblie up the back a bit, so here's your plate. And another one for the front. Cushy seats for the cushiest job in the First Order, plus 3 boxes of laser bolts. Why do we need 3 boxes? Well, as soon as your kid loses the first 12 studs, you need to be able to quickly replenish the stock of studs for them to lose. But, why 2 more on the deck? I bet you think we need one more gun. Of course we do. another gun with another stud shooter. Now our Space convertible with the reclining seats is ready for inaction. Plus, the officer just picked up 2 of his buddies to go grab some beers. Probably, he'll use the storage boxes as coolers once he's lost all his laser bolts. My daughter did ask if these were girl Stormtroopers since they had skirts. The minifigures look excellent with lots of detailed printing and sweet new helmets. REACTION I was whelmed. I got exactly what I expected out of this set. No more, and no less. The build was routine with no interesting surprises. To me, the fact that LEGO added floaty wheels to the bottom of this thing says that even they knew it was dull. 3 Snowtroopers make this an armybuilder's dream. You can take these guys who did nothing in the movie and pit them against the Resistance ground forces that did nothing in the movie. I am not sure, but this build may have made me accept the First Order Transporter a bit more. Apparently the First Order goes in for dull, utilitarian vehicles that have floaty wheels. FINAL THOUGHTS So, this vehicle was used as set dressing in a few places in the movie. It has the distinction of being mostly forgettable and almost entirely forgotten. If JJ can somehow add the chase scene back into the movie, interest in this piece will finally take off. An indication of its performance is that it got an early 20% discount that it still maintains. The price point of this set did not break the bank. It was the cheapest Bad guy set when it came out. It did sell out at Christmas, unlike Kylo Ren's ship or the Transporter. I think that was mainly due to the price point and not fan demand. Unless this vehicle shows up in the next movie, or the scenes get added back into the film, I don't see a big upsurge in demand later on. A deleted scene extra is hardly likely to excite long term growth. Kids and adults like to see their toys in the media that they are watching. If the Snowtroopers had done anything interesting, they might have given this a boost. I spent an hour looking for pictures of the 2 occurences that I remember of this vehicle in the film. I could not find them. No one cares enough to point it out, as far as I can tell. I forecast low to no growth on this set. I'd be happy to be proved wrong, but nothing about it says "Buy me for a premium." Find it here on Amazon EXTRA PIECES You get a couple extra backpack pieces and an extra white and black lightsaber hilt. The white is much less common, although not incredibly rare. BONUS Check it out concept art, cut scene and promotional still. Now you can feel like you saw these in the movie - ish.2 points

I thought I was going to have an awful day as I had to go to the middle of nowhere for work today. I work outside and it is dumping snow/rain. Turns out it was a great day. I found 50% off spaceports, morrow dragon, city square, blue jet, and gorilla grodd, as well as 75%off some bionicles that are not even out yet or just released 71308. I have built all but city square and new bionicle guy and they are all great sets. My sons favorite is morrow dragon.2 points

I just finished building one yesterday and it is amazing. If you do the swap, bring a scale and weigh it. Make sure it has the 3 big engines(wheels) 2 small engines. (baskets) and the 2 shield generators. I don't know the cost in LBG but in LG they were selling for $40 a piece.2 points

Part of the fun in writing this was similar to what I hope is part of the fun reading: nostalgia Agree on the boxes, they were more fun and teased the imagination of kids. If you'll remember though, many boxes were plastic-sealed. The subject of this blog, set 1592, is an example of that. Indeed it's a lot of fun to finally collect and build the sets you'd always wanted to have. This set 1590 was owned by a cousin of mine and I have very fond memories of playing with it. Was always jealous... and now I own a specimen myself. Very happy about that. Also, as you say, it's very satisfying to finally receive that last brick or piece by Bricklink-mail and complete the set. To me that feels like I've done something important bringing back a set's former glory... most people will roll their eyes at this I know And you definitely have a point where you say that it's simply fun to get to build the set. As will become clear in a future blog in this series, most sets from e.g. the '80s were designed very well and very cleverly. It's utter joy building them once more / finally. @Tripling money: that's something that doesn't happen as often with these vintage sets I think; I can imagine you felt good afterwards. Having fun (more so than 'collecting' modern sets') and getting paid for it! Thanks, it has been my pleasure! Working on it, could take a while though. Good to read that it manages to inspire. Interesting to read that you had the Dutch version as a non-collector, as it was only sold in the Netherlands. Do you know how your set managed to find its way into the US? Yes the Chocomel and ANWB sets are true classics as well. In that time the Netherlands were a big market for TLG, although of course a petite country. Until 1998 we even had a Lego factory in Grootegast, a small town in the north of the Netherlands. Now many years later, they are opening a Lego museum there with the help of people who used to work there. That project is starting to get quite serious... see this Facebook-site: https://www.facebook.com/legiomuseum/ But now that TLG has left the Netherlands (there isn't even a Lego store here) there have not been any large Dutch promotional sets anymore. To illustrate, see this picture of part of 1590's instructions: It says "Produced under responsibility of LEGO Netherlands Ltd. (...) Grootegast". This says it all... Thanks Alpinemaps. It's an adorable set, for sure. Did you take a look at the modern take on the set by a MOC'er? Didn't want to use pictures because of possible copyright issues (and the blog was long enough as it was) so it was easy to overlook that link; take a look here... curious to know what you think of it. Same here! On the other hand it's sad that Main Street (6390) was never released here in Europe. That set is also very desirable and probably just as wonderful as 1592. I think even the Legend remake (10041) was only released in the US but I'm not quite sure of that. Ah TLG always has and always will find ways for us collectors and fans to long for certain sets. You're very welcome. I think many people don't know this set existed as it wasn't featured in any catalogue. It's a lot of fun but it also takes a lot of time and energy. I like to see it more as a hobby. It's always good if you can make a profit to go along. Will do!2 points

I started dumping most of my Super Hero sets since last summer/fall, including my Milanos. I bought in at decent prices, so I'm still making money, just not as much as I had hoped when I initially purchased everything. DC, Marvel, Batman, GoTG, etc. Everything must go. Super Heroes has become a tough theme to get behind in my opinion. They are mini figure driven, and rehashes and counterfeits aren't helping the matter. There are still a few hidden gems, like Ant-Man, but even that set will only go so high before it comes back to Earth. As always, it's good to diversify, but I'm not going crazy on this theme any more.2 points

Just when I thought I'd seen the most bizarre way a Tumbler can arrive (Amazon dog food guy)... I arrived home today to find my Walmart order from a week ago in an oversized box on the doorstep. Picked it up and it was WAY too heavy to be a Tumbler. Lifted inside, cut it open, and found an old Dell computer monitor that looks like it was dug out of a dumpster as well as an old metal monitor stand, both crammed into an opened ASUS (???) monitor box. Sure enough, this ASUS box (containing an old DELL monitor and metal stand) was sitting haphazardly atop my Tumbler. I removed the debris to find the Tumbler box in surprisingly decent condition (some creases) given the weight of the old monitor and metal stand, but with the seals all popped on one side. After I stood there dumbfounded for the better part of a minute, I found humor in the situation and had a laugh. Called my wife over and showed her what happened. (Deadpan tone): "oh, so you bought more Legos?" she announced. Me: "Well, yeah, but... look at this!" Piper: "Did you order that monitor?" Me: "Definitely not." Piper: "Cool, well I guess you got a free monitor." (more deadpan) Me: "It looks like it's been in the garbage. And look at the Lego box underneath it - it's popped open and creased." Piper: "Looks fine to me... (pause) ... don't you already have that Lego set?" (more deadpan) Me: (eyes narrowing, quickly assessing whether or not she knows there are 11 of these already lined up in the top shelf of a closet in the guest room. I determine she doesn't or a much more hostile reaction I would have probably just received)... "just one for Jason to open when he's older and gets into Batman." Piper: "Well, that's pretty weird. What are you going to do with the monitor?" Me: "Throw it away I guess? I doubt it even works." Piper: "You should call Walmart and see if they want it back." Me: "It looks like someone in their shipping department said 'that's it, I quit!' then unplugged his monitor, threw it in this box, taped it up, and went home." Piper: (now turning to walk away and head back to the living room, calling out over her shoulder): "Maybe you can put it in the guest room with the 11 other Tumbler sets you hid up there." Me: ........ EPILOGUE: I called WM customer service later in the evening and was given a 20% discount on the Tumbler. CS rep was very pleasant and expressed surprisingly little incredulity at my description of what sat atop my Lego set in the shipping box. Just another Monday evening at the Walmart.com customer service phone center I suspect...2 points
