  1. This is my recommendation to every new investor rushing to the scene: Imagine a world without BrickPicker. One where people make simple decisions on their own. In this world, one would choose which sets to buy and when to sell them, without help. Are you going to make the right decision every time? No, but you aren't going to anyway. But what you will have every time is more experience. The people who have been the most successful at this had nobody to ask for help. Nobody to tell them how to do everything. You'll be far better off in the long run if you don't let the majority make your decisions for you.

  2. Alright, I'm selling likes! I've already bought some raffle tickets, but just for fun, for every "like" this post gets from members who joined before the time of this posting, I'll spend an equal amount on more tickets, up to $250. If it gets beyond that, I'll figure out how much more I'll spend. Let's set a like record!

  4. I hate to pat us on the back but the tone of this website is thanks to the MODs and ADMINs. We don't put up with the typical internet BS garbage that pollutes todays interwebs. Trust me there have been schmucks who have tried that crap and they are gone just as soon as they signed up. This is a great community with great MODs and the only people who complain about us are the people who come in here and think they are gonna do and say want. Not gonna happen sorry not sorry.

You shamefully admit that you left it in the garage as you were unpacking sets from your latest haul. Not like this has happened to me, just sharing because it could happen to anyone and you should be prepared when your wife flips out.

  15. Sorry to hear about your situation. The first thing you need to do is let your contacts know you are available. I am assuming that you have LinkedIn account. Networking is key in this darn age. Secondly if your resume and LinkedIn are not up to date, do it now. Make sure you put in looking for opportunities. Ask for Recommendations and Endorsements from contacts that you already know or have a good relation with (Assuming they have LinkedIn account). In my past experience your contacts are less likely to write you a recommendation than click to endorse your skills, but ask them anyway as you don't have anything to loose. I would also file for unemployment as it is a benefit you have earned, use it. Its 100% online so you can do it from home. The paperwork should show up in the mail 2-3 days later with your PIN and then you do the rest online every week until the benefit expires or you have found work. Certainly the amount is very minimal, but it is additional income you never had. Now comes the hard part.. If money is going to be tight, start identifying Lego sets to sell. Start with the ones that you think you can make a good return on. Don’t sell the ones that you recently acquired. Also, return any that you think are within the 30/90 day return policy as it will give you some needed cash or free up some debt on the credit card. Definitely cut off your unnecessary expenses, like HBO, superfast internet, and eating out. Call your cable companies and ask for a lower rate or speak to cancellations dept. I have had better luck in the past by threatening to cancel due to unemployment as they gave me a much discounted rate to keep me than loose me. I would take time to pursue a certification or any other training relevant to your as you might have a lot of free time. Reading books on professional development. I read “Knock em Dead” interview questions book. Wish you best of Luck!

  23. It should probably be noted that both R5 and Tumbler are outselling Sea Cow on ebay EU by around 5 to 1 since Jan 1st. I'm glad to see Sea Cow off to a good start, though I didn't buy any. I'm quite happy to have my money in R5 and Tumblers instead. The demand will stay high for those sets in the coming months and years. And probably more hoarded 10 to 1

  25. The extra pieces were not on the front end, they were on the roof. Two 2x4 while tiles to hold the roof together properly when it was lifted off. The change in piece count never affected the numbers on the S@H website.... Plenty of boxes have had minor changes or corrections and it never correlated to a new set number or a revision number or whatever. It appears that a change in box size did that.

  29. Some good comments...A couple of points... Yes, St.Paul is a Catholic school. Jeff and I were raised Roman Catholic and by no means are we some religious quacks or pushing that on people. I am respectful of all religions and don't want that to affect this discussion and raffle. We are products of public schools and they were great. St. Paul is a great school. Period. It has kids from all religions and races in it. They teach respect and morals and if that is part of the religious aspect of it, then more schools should include it in my opinion. I am really the last person to preach about religion, so please don't let this deter you from giving. The chances of winning are pretty good, especially for a few of the sets. When I go to a charity event and a person asks me to buy a 50/50, I don't ask the odds, I just buy some tickets. That's how I roll. As for the "elite" section, I am going to be completely honest here. For years, we have discussed charging people to use this site. Many members have requested "elite" forums. I have always been the advocate to keep the site FREE. I have always wanted to give people MORE, for nothing. This site is not Brickset or Eurobricks. This site discusses LEGO bricks, but it has deep ties to MONEY. People MAKE MONEY from this site, yet we have kept it free. We ask for a few links to be clicked on to help support the site at no real cost to members. Nothing more. Go try to discuss these topics on the other sites and you will be banned from the site in time. They don't want to focus on such tacky topics. It's just the way that it is and I respect their views on the subject. Countless times I have defended the community here, saying that is was more than a bunch of hack resellers who took LEGO sets from Little Timmy, only to sell them for double the MSRP. I might be a sap for not making the site a pay site, but I am a giver. That being said, Jeff and I don't support ourselves with this site in any way, shape or form. We have real jobs. This site is a passion of ours and the thousands of hour we put into each year is not about money, because if it was, we would have shut it down years ago. The book we wrote was hundreds of hours of work for little return amounting to less than minimum wage returns. So what keeps the site going, growing and improving? Our loyalty and responsibility to YOU and the people that do support us, silly as it seems. I believe in Karma and Kismet (my two dead dogs) and believe that if I help people, it will come back to me. So far, I have been blessed by good fortune. So I ask the community of thousands to dig a little deeper to help some kids and teachers. I will add some more sets from our personal collections. I will also add some sets from generous members. I really appreciate those who have given so far and I look forward to thanking more people in the future....

  30. No quiet "moo moo" noises being heard regarding the 70810 MetalBeard's Sea Cow set. It's quite impressive when any set increases over 40% from MSRP ($249.99) within only 2 months of "availability" *. Currently, MISB prices are $350 on average (bricklink, amazon, ebay, brickpicker) * note: availability varied by region and retailer. While most Lego collectors and investments were buying sets such as The Tumbler, Death Star, Pet Shop and UCS X-wing in the closing months of 2015, 70810 was quietly going in and out of stock before disappearing. Not everyone was ignoring this set or quite by surprise of it's recent performance. Check-out the forum topic for this set (link below). So now that it's "retired", why the 40% jump in value in 2 months? "Supply vs. Demand" in my opinion. It appears Lego didn't produce as many 70810s as other Exclusive sets based on reported box tape seal codes. Maybe the set lost it's initial appeal. The Lego Movie debuted 2 years ago. Many of its features become available in cheaper sets such as 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! and Emmit's 70818 Double-Decker Couch. There was also a larger version of Metalbeard available (70807 The Movie MetalBeard's Duel) The $250 cost was deemed too expensive. We may never know why this set was ignored by many at retail. One thing was certain, the majority of online 70810 reviews were positive. Regarding the long-term aspects, only time will tell if demand continues to make this set rapidly appreciate. The upcoming Lego The Movie sequel will most help as well as if Metalbeard appears in other Lego movies (Ninjago, Batman, etc...). 35. You got more than 2 weeks of notice!! I guess that's my only advice. Stay positive, look at the bright side. I loved being laid off twice in six months early in my career with zero notice and no severance. Apply for unemployment as soon as you are allowed to. Brush up that resume and get it out there. Don't be afraid of moving if you need to. You got this.

  36. Ed, I have been a member of brickpicker for a few months shy of two years, and the work you and Jeff have put into making this a thriving community has meant a lot to me. I am much more of a collector than a reseller, but Brickpicker means just as much to me as the rest because it helps me afford my passion. My love for LEGO was rekindled when I first watched the movie when it came out in early 2014. That same night I found myself driving to Toys R Us to impulsively buy whatever suited my fancy, and I ended up with quite a stack of LEGO Movie and Star Wars sets. I quickly realized when the total came up on the cash register that LEGO collecting would not be sustainable if I didn't buy smart. So later that night, I found myself scouring the web about finding discount sets and clearance sets, and my search brought me here. I have been a member ever since, and while I am not a very visible member, I am on this website almost every single day reading the good word. Because of Brickpicker, I have been able to indulge my hobby as economically as dumping money into plastic bricks can be. What I am trying to say with all of this is that I have bought what tickets I can for now, and will be buying more when the next pay day rolls around. I wish you the best of luck, and know what it means to feel comfortable where your children are. Places that allow children to flourish are few and far between, and should be cherished. If you manage to work out something with exciter to where he is willing to let you raffle his walmart clearance time machine, my next paycheck is going into nothing but tickets. Geno

  37. Greetings all. I have been buying and selling Lego's since 2007. I have little inventory compared to most of you. I started when I was 12 or 13 when I decided to buy a 7654 Droid battle pack to sale rather than to keep. I am right now a college student and have amassed a collection of Legos that is near 70k, if I decide to sell all my parts on brick link, small time I know. I still keep the Lego set that started it all as a memento. I mainly like to builds sets and part out the one that I don’t like. I favor the clone war Legos for my battle builds because the clone wars is filled with a whole variety of land vehicles and space battles, to my option, its better battles with "A-Z wings" vs "Ties" in space, and "people" vs "people with tanks" that fills episodes 4-6. I invest in a whole variety of things but the backbone of my operations is star wars. I mainly follow the ends and outs of everything related to star wars and build my portfolio around it. I don’t like to buy more than 5 of any set unless it’s a star wars battle pack. I did have a dark age’s period, from 2012 to 2014 I got tired of Legos collecting and reselling. I decided to only collect thing I like, the at-te and clone gunships and clone battle packs for myself to use to build clone war moc if I decided to rejoin Lego. The reason why I decided to collect tons of at-te, gunships. Droid tanks, and troops was because of Disney purchase of star wars. I believed that 1 of 2 options would happen and I put my money where my mouth was and do my last major invest spree before my dark ages. 1 I was and still am willing to bet that Disney will not ever touch the prequels because they want to play it extremely safe and want to revise the franchise and they will not risk anything lower than a 98% success rating for their movies. This process would make star wars last for 8 to 10 years till that had exhausted all of the old star wars fan with the constant movies and merchandise. Like what they do with all merchandise is to suck it dry and move onto the next. And I believe to myself that Disney would suck the life out of the fans of Star Wars before they would to anything with the prequels. 2. Disney would redo the prequels if they ran out of things to do with the episodes of star wars and they were still earning enough money to prompt a revisit. Disney now may be willing to take more risks and redo a franchise, my best guess fans get tired at star wars episode 11 or 12 and after 15 branch off movies like some tie fighter squad and some random Jedi they follows after Luke Sky walkers death. Fans then want something else. This time they would try to cram as many star wars movies into the clone war era and plan to work around the time of the old Republic and Sith empires I believed and still do that Disney will release sets based on the prequels but they will never be is groups again like the Yoda boxes tie in with the clone wars. The only time that a mass group would exist with Disney is with a clone wars era movie. Disney will put all their eggs in the new line of movies. The thing that got me out of my Dark ages was when the SSD was retiring and the price on eBay was 750. I was now following Lego that much during this time but I knew there was a SSD available. I was shocked and then proceed to hunt one down in the summer of 2015. I really wanted one for my personal collection. I found one on craigslist but I had to drive a total of 6 hours to pick it up for 500. The trip was not all bad, I then went to a store along the way and picked up stack on storage places at a northern tool store for helping me sort my collection of parts for my builds. FYI if any of you guys want some some stack multi drawers for brick link. amazon has them for cheap if you don’t a coupon to a norther tool or you are not near one and you want some. http://www.amazon.com/Stack-On-DS-60-Drawer-Storage-Cabinet/dp/B000KKUSYS I will post the add in daily deals After missing a deal like that and losing money on something that I should have been on top of, I decided to rejoin. I did have some back up sealed boxes to sell and I used that to kick start my eBay portfolio during Christmas time. I wonder how old everyone was when they started and what made you want to start investing. I’m trying to find a page on that, if there is none then I might make a page. I will mostly be in the shadows and not post much like I have been, PM me if you have questions about Star Wars sets and I might have an answer or my personal opinion on a set if you want need another option on a star wars set. I know very little on anything other than Star Wars. PS. I am also going to help you ED with your Child's school, I sold my last Lego hero factory 7179 for 140.50 when I bought it for 8 at a Lego store. I would love to put all the profit I got into your raffle but I am in a bit of a pinch myself in needing money as well. I will just need to get something sorted out after my purchasing of my new books for the semester and I might have some more left over to donate. I will get at least 2 tickets before the raffle ends if nothing else, i can guarantee you that.

About 6 weeks ago I said the JW sets were in the 2016 Wholesale Form, now since the Raptor Escape is a Lego and Walmart Exclusive, that set would not be on the list, and it just shows the sets listed, it does not say All Year, Spring Only, which means Lego is not sure how long into 2016 they will be around for.
