The Mystery Box could be a big winner, if people participate. The more they participate, the bigger the prize and the more generous I become. It's as simple as that.6 points

Really? I guess so. Back then, people would have the patience to sit on a set for a few years and see what develops before making asinine comments. Today, this site is filled with impatient children crying about sets that don't appreciate before they are retired. That's the difference.6 points

I think this is the last set with Slave Leia no? I think that will make it matter at some point...5 points

A long time ago I said on this very same forum that people are trying to make themselves to believe that they are making a good decision by doing whatever. By saying all of these they are attempting to make their doubts to disappear by seeking support on their comments. Cognitive dissonance, just gotta love it seeing it at work. This forum is a prime example.5 points

The more things change, the more they stay the same. If this site was around back then, the conversation about the 10179 would have went like this;;; "Oh, the 10179 was discounted $100.00. Must be a bad seller!" "It's been available for months on Amazon after it's sold out on LEGO Shop at Home. It will perform poorly. A giant loser!" "It's too big. It's too hard to store!" "There are just too many grey bricks. Boring!" "It has no playability. It doesn't move. It's just not fun." "$500!?!?...Are you kidding me? I could buy 50 sets for that!" "STAR WARS? Been there, done that."5 points

Is it odd that the Tumbler doesn't tumble at all, but the bike inside it does? - Deep thoughts.4 points

My analysis is that we are far behind were I thought we would be. We are not even at 1/2 a percent of our users. I told Ed, "oh i think we will hit 500 supporters with no issue at all", I guess I was wrong. I really thought this would end over a thousand people but it will be interesting to see if we can get 300. I am open to suggestions on what more we can do to get people involved in this. Maybe it's time that the site changes the way things have been done. It's amazing to see people who just signed up 3 days ago offer support and people that have been members for years still haven't shown up. $10 for a few years worth of what could have been money made or money saved is a good deal in my book.4 points

^ You're right, there are two camps: (1) People who think this is going to be a huge hit and (2) people who are going to wish they were in the first camp six months from now. This isn't going to be Orthanc or Red Five or Sea Cow. Once it is gone, it is going to BE gone. It isn't going to become available again every week or so for five months on Amazon (I'm looking at you, 10237). Lego wants this one done. TLG made the decision a month ago never to produce another Tumbler. What exists in the world is all that is out there. No more runs. I'll tangle with anybody on this site who feels like having a go about this one, and here's my opening volley: 1) Shortest shelf life for an exclusive in recent memory. 2) It's an iconic vehicle and not a play set. Vehicle > Building > Play set (with some notable exceptions). If AA is your reason to steer clear of the Tumbler, you're wrong. 3) It's from the best Batman series that will probably ever be made. They're going to keep trying, but Nolan's trilogy will remain the king, at least in my lifetime. See #5 below. 4) Heath Ledger's Joker. 5) Batman is.... well, Batman. Whether he Begins, Returns, is Forever, Rises, or faces off against Superman, he is never going away. Ben Affleck is going to make people long for the Dark Knight Trilogy and the 76023. Get them while you can. If you pass, you'll be sorry you missed this one.4 points

It is a selling point if you want to make sure you're not getting a counterfeit one.3 points

No offense but if you don't want others to build it, don't put it out there on the internet. So what if the builder looked around for ideas and even borrowed some? All the OP said was he built his own, not that he designed and built from scratch.3 points
-
Took the words right out of my mouth (fingers?). I'll add... 3) It's not just the best Batman series, it's the best movie from the best series. 4) Ledger's performance as the Joker will likely never be topped—he won an Academy Award, for Pete's sake—and I'd put him up there with Vader and Hannibal as one of the greatest movie villains ever. Ledger's untimely death magnifies his legendary status (James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, and River Phoenix, anyone?) and it means that there is no danger of his Joker being watered down by a lousy sequel. He was one of a kind, the performance was one of a kind, and the minifig will remain one of a kind.3 points

Marx I imagine you would. One for one is obviously not a good business decision for me. Current values suggest a ~4.5 tumblers to one SSD.3 points

I just wanted to say thanks for all the time, effort and Legos that are going into this fundraiser. My son goes to St. Paul School. At his last, larger school he would come home with stories of teachers yelling, out of control behaviors from other students and very little about what he was being taught. Needless to say, my wife and I were truly disappointed by this first school experience. We found St. Paul School and haven't looked back since. The class size is smaller, the teachers are more structured and the learning is abundant. We are hopeful this fundraiser and others will get us through to next year, and then on to increasing enrollment. It boggles the mind as to why others haven't discovered this gem. Thanks again Lego Lovers for the support.3 points

So far, it looks like more takers than givers on the site. Sad that people can't donate $10 to a school or as a way to say thanks for the site and effort put forth by you and Jeff.3 points

It really beggars belief. I rarely post but I've visited this site almost daily since I came across it because it's an outstanding resource for the Lego collector/enthusiast/investor. That's due to the hard work and enthusiasm of its founders, who take nothing for the services they provide. Now that they've asked for our help and support, it's to buy tickets in a raffle where we still stand to gain if we're lucky enough to win! Come on guys, please show your for appreciation for Ed and Jeff's unstinting work and support a very good cause at the same time.2 points

If the box appears to be open I would ask the store clerk or manager to open it and verify the contents. If Smaug is missing you lose half the value of the set ($60-70 USD). I did this with a suspicious Jabbas Palace at Walmart a few years ago. It was worth the piece of mind, and sometimes they will even offer a discount if you ask politely.2 points

I never expected The Tumbler to appreciate so explosively like the Red5 and have since the beginning felt that it would gradually appreciate very similar to ToO. Both are iconic sets within their themes. Both have unique parts that can't be found in any other set. And both will very likely never be remade. And unlike 10240 these two sets are not surfing on a (movie) hype but will do well over time. They just need patience, which is sometimes in short supply with certain people here.2 points

The new rating system is pretty much a do whatever you want, as long as you resolve the problem later your fine (a complete reversal of their past restrictions). It is always best to sell items that you actually have. It could happen on occasion (inventory errors, etc) - but I would expect that it shouldn't happen often enough to have much (if any) impact.2 points

There is really no way to say this without sounding like an ahole but here it goes, and this goes for all sets.......if you dont like the set or think it has no potential to make you money then simply don't buy it and don't talk about it. What does it acomplish by saying stuff like that? Absolutely nothing. Focus on what you like and what you think will be a good investment. Bottom line is no one should care what anyone has to say about any set.......I know I don't. Arguing if a set is going to be a winner or not doesn't do anything.2 points

I wonder what happens when this thing is completely wiped out in the retail market. There are two camps as I can see. One camp of non-believers that the Tumbler will not rise. Argument is that this isn't the batmobile, this is costly, this isn't an iconic set, this only lasted through 2 movie. The other camp says short lifespan, big set, lots of rare pieces. etc.... Would be nice to have a poll to see what the predictions are for the price of this in July 2016. Some will be caught off guard. A lot of people forgot that when this came out, it went to around $500 or near it, then oos. Now that it has only been out for a year and a bit, it goes sold out at SAH. Then retirement. I don't think this can be compared to the AA. The AA is more of a playset than a display set.2 points
