  1. This is a great project that we undertook with our 6 year old as a way of making him a part of our "sales team." The map represents about 160 sales from 2015, starting with our first Lego sale in March. Each customer gets a pin on the map and then as we ship to a new state my son gets to use the computer to look up an interesting fact about that state, and then write it in a journal. That way he is learning cool facts, and practicing his handwriting and computer skills. I bet he is the only kid in his class that knows what a peninsula is (Florida), or what the state song of Connecticut is (Yankee Doodle). Ive been waiting for a sale to Alaska so we can learn about archipelagos, but that may just be the geography nerd in me coming out. Multiple sales to a city get a larger pin, and we have them for the cities you would expect like New York, Chicago, LA. Some surprising ones too like Chattanooga Tennessee. Wouldn't have guessed that one but we ship quite a few items to multiple buyers there. I wish now that I would have sprung for the bigger world map, as we have had 15 international sales that could have been added on that I was not anticipating having made. Besides being a great learning project for my son, it has been useful to me to validate our shipping fee practices as I can easily see where most of my customers are from, and although it is skewed towards the east coast, I still have a fair amount headed out west. I know this wouldn't be practical for some here as their volume is much too large, but for a small timer like myself this is a fun way to involve your kids in your hobby. And have something cool on your wall that people will ask about. My thanks go out to everyone here for the advice and insights over the past year, and I wish everyone a great 2016!

  2. I'm glad I went deep into the hood tonight to Walmart. Saw some Jabba Barges for $49, but passed on them. Then I ran across some City Square sets (60097) that I didn't even realize Walmart carried in store. They didn't scan with a price so I took one to the guest service counter. Cashier couldn't get it to come up with a price either, so she called over the assistant manager who took it over to the manager. A few minutes later she comes back and she's on the horn with the manager. I can hear her talking, "Yeah, it's the big one". She tells the cashier, "Okay, department 7 ... twenty-three ninety-six." I thought that was some kind of price code, so I asked her politely what the price ended up being. "$23.96" was her response with a smile. "That's a good deal I bet." "Yeah, that's a pretty good deal. Are you sure that price is right?", I said. "Yup, that's what the manager says." "Alright, mind if I grab another one?" "Go ahead, if there's any more left!", she said. I ran back and grabbed one more and left two of them on the shelf. Checked out and then prayed on the way back to my car that I didn't get jacked with those two sets in my arms.

  5. Both Ed and I would like to thank each and every one of our members and guests for allowing us to have the best year ever. It was an amazing year of new opportunities and expansion. We launched new products and hit milestones that the two of us joked about hitting not too long ago. Brickpicker just celebrated its fourth full year of existence and we couldn’t be happier that early in our fifth year we are oh so close to registering 55,000 members. Because of the success we have had, Ed and I were honestly blown away when I received an email through our contact us form that I honestly thought was a joke at first. I couldn’t believe that someone was contacting us to write a book. I remember messaging Ed saying “Hey, you want to write a book?” Ed laughed until I did a little more research and learned that this was indeed a real inquiry. We really didn’t know what we were in for, but in November, our book The Ultimate Guide to Collectible LEGO® Sets: Identification and Price Guide was released and we are both very proud of the end result. The publishers of the book have been pleased with it’s success and invited us to write another about minifgures which we are inviting the community to help us with and be part of. If you haven’t been to the site in awhile, please read the following post and see how you can be part of the book. If we head back to the beginning of 2015, we launched a major new product called Brick Classifieds. Brick Classifieds is a LEGO marketplace that has been in the works for years and had many different versions as our thoughts of project changed over and over. Was it going to be more like eBay, more like BrickLink, maybe both and maybe neither. In the end we decide not try to reinvent the wheel but just create something that was pretty simple. Overall it is more of a mix of eBay and Etsy. In case you have not visited Brick Classifieds or were not even aware of it, it is a FREE marketplace. List your LEGO products for FREE and if you sell something, you keep all the profits (not including Paypal fees). That isn’t too bad right? I am very happy to say that like most new sites as they hit their first year in business, it is finally starting to get noticed and business is picking up. New vendors are signing up regularly, sales are happening daily and the feedback I am getting is very positive. Give it a whirl and post your items or buy from the 500+ vendors that are already selling on the site. You have nothing to lose! Throughout the year, Brickpicker itself is always being tweaked and updated. The forum received a major upgrade that is never very easy and always has a few hiccups, most of which should be behind us now. The upgrade, while a pain to perform, was necessary for growth and expansion in the future. The forum mobile app is catching up now and just released a new updated version on iOS with an update to Android coming as soon as next week. We launched a very popular Stock Tracker that checks major retailers relentlessly to let us know when hot sets are back in stock via Email & SMS and our Target Inventory Tracker is probably one of the most used features on the site. Where do we go in 2016? Who knows, but the sky's the limit they say. If you asked us a few years ago if we would have more than 7 million visitors with over 20 million page views, I would have said you were nuts and tell us another joke, but that has become a reality which I guess we need to try and top now. I can tell you that a major focus will be on revamping the Brickfolio. That is a necessity that is long overdue. Mobile expansion for both Brickpicker and Brick Classifieds is on the list as well. There will be more announcements throughout the year on a few other projects we are working on, but we are not ready to jump into any of that just yet. So one last time, we would like to thank all of you for being part of the Brickpicker family. We would especially like to thank our mod team for keeping an eye on the site when we can’t. If you are a member that hasn’t check in on the site in a long time, visit us again and see what you have been missing, there is always something fun or crazy going on in the forums. It is the place to be!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! ED & JEFF MACK View full blog article

  25. So I finally finished reading DK's TFA visual dictionary. Honestly, it could be considered a prerequisite prior to watching TFA for true SW nerds like me. It see fills in storyline / plot gaps that some of us typed about. E.g. Note folks thought it was Luke's helmet. It wasn't I like R2's info..

  30. It´s all in good humour. Everyone knows AFOL´s who buy on the secondary market don´t care about design. They want what they can´t get. When the Playmobil clone doubtless becomes the hidden gem of 2015 and everyone is celebrating 5x RRP, I´ll be in the garage with a pipe from the car exhaust in my big mouth.

  31. The minimum thickness you're referring to is a requirement for sending first class package rather than first class letter domestically. Letter rate has some other restrictions like not being rigid, the package must be uniformly thick, etc.). You do not want to send LEGO parts by first class letter - they will end up in mail sorting equipment and may destroy the packaging, and/or the LEGO inside the packaging. Using bubble mailers with first class package (not letter) rates is fine - we use plastic poly mailers as they're far more durable than paper, and reinforce with a "package within the package" of another layer of bubble wrap around the bagged parts, so that the parts shift as little as possible in transit. Once you're past 13oz in weight (or 16oz after Jan 17), you need to switch from first class package postage to priority mail of some type. That's where the priority mail padded flat rate envelope that Dads' mentioned comes in. I have also found that about 20 ounces of almost all types of parts can be shipped in these safely. There is no flatness, uniformity, or thickness restriction to these -- "if it fits, it ships".

  35. This set is going to do just fine. It was the perfect set to buy in the current reselling environment for anyone looking to hold something a few years. Provided it isn't remade for TLM2, I expect this set to perform like the currently valuable sets did - a slow and steady increase.

  36. My son has one. It's an ok set, but nothing that stands out in my opinion. The canon on the front is fragile and breaks off easily. Kanan is in two or three other sets. And I'm not into wookies. Not a great set for investment IMO. But I'm just a newb on the site, what do I know.

  41. I guessed right! Looks like I'm not on drugs, which is reassuring. Honestly though, the left and right ships look identical save for the color schemes. It might be possible to make Sea Cow look good just by not adding some of the pieces. With the back lower and less crap in the middle, it would be ok. Two put together for a longer hull could be pretty sweet, but that's a steep investment and there aren't any instructions showing you how to do it. The lone ranger train could also be made awesome with a little customization and the addition of power functions, but that didn't save it...

  43. If this is simply based on the new movie's X-Wing design same as Poe's only with a different color scheme then technically the set should be considered a recolor than a remake and for such a quirky addition out of the blue I imagine it could be a Toys R Us exclusive.

  44. No matter what you do or who you use packages that size to the far flung US destinations will cost you $50 plus/minus. I buy all my boxes at ULine and fit them so I can bubble wrap them at least once before shoe horning them into the carton. That box size you are using is a major cost over run. Don't do it Lebowski!

  46. I bought the Ultimate Aaron set yesterday for my husband (whose name is Aaron and his favorite color is green) and daughter. The character's full name is Aaron Fox and it just so happens my daughter is absolutely obsessed with foxes. It is actually a cool little figure with lots of extra pieces (weapons, shields, etc) and some unique pieces too. I really like all the new interesting pieces I see in these sets. I'm not super into the theme itself though. We'll watch the show and maybe my mind will change.

  47. Just bought 70315 Clay's Rumble Blade, and my son couldn't wait to get it home and build it. I am very impressed. It is probably the coolest, funnest $40 Lego I have ever bought. Great minifigs, LOTS of play-ability, colors are a little shocking on the box, but in person, it looks "just right". A set that combines the main hero, robots, fire demons, swords, "power-up" shields, motorcycles, a flying ship, and a missle-firing ATV... that just has to be a winner. Of course, I think the key will be if the TV show can get a serious fan base like Ninjago, but so far, I really like this theme. I'm already looking at how to get a complete set of the minifigs... looks like Lego has split them up well so that you have to buy 4* sets or more to get the five main heroes and villain. And if I'm not mistaken, I think Axl - one of my favorites - is exclusive to the $100 Fortrex. *My mistake... I think you can get them all by buying Fortrex, Jestros Evil Mobile, and the Beast Master's Chaos Chariot ($100+$60+$30).
