  5. I think the challenge here is that you basically said we are all "greedy" ... like that was a condescending view. Most of the folks here are buying legos and then trying to make a profit. Your assumption that greed is bad is what set most folks off. Prices reflect a combination of supply and demand for any particular good or service. To blame a price on a "greedy" person simply conveys a particular bias and simply put, an ignorance, on how a simple market operates. Just because you assumed that this is a place for an "inside track" doesn't change the fact that you wanted something (greed) from the group as well. In the end we are all looking out for ourselves, our families, and simply put, our own best interests. To expect anything else is simply naive. I am sorry you had a bad experience, but my experience is that vast majority of folks in this forum are thoughtful and very interesting. I have grown to enjoy their participation and look to them for camaraderie and shared experience through our lego investing journey. I wish you much fun and happiness on your quest to find a Red 5. That is how many of us got started ....

  8. So with Tumbler done in the EU we have 7 exclusives gone this year - par for the course. My predictions for 2016: EV, SOH, PS, Sandcrawler, Fairground Mixer and Winter Toy Shop. Total 6 plus 1 more left-field that was not possible to predict. No TB or T1 in my list....

  9. Calling out "greedy resellers" in this forum may get you tarred and feathered... This should also be taken to PM.

  14. I appreciate the concern, I really do. I don't post pics of my other children on public forums because they're cute as hell and I don't want some sicko adding them to his/her wishlist. But she's 40 min old in this pic. If, later in life, she feels that her rights were violated or that she was somehow exploited, I will have failed as a parent because she would be an idiot. And you're right, in this day and age, I can, with a few hours of 'work', find just about anything about anyone that posts anywhere on the Internet. I've been hired by people to do just that. So your sentiment and advice is sound, if not misdirected in this case. Also, sorry to derail the thread, but I just wanted to let you all know that even if you received a 10179, I still had the best Christmas gift this year.

  15. This really isn't going to be a fluff article about how awesome Brick Classifieds is, but more of a small message that people are starting to take notice of it. Launching any new site is not easy at all. Google and other search engines don't even know you exist, so obtaining new customers via organic traffic is tough. Vendors that do list products don't have a lot of feedback so it's hard to show history and trust. So you might say, ok, what is so good about this? Those that have stuck it out and continued to post new quality listings with solid descriptions, real photos and priced their listings right have done well, real well. Brick Classifieds has been live for just about a year now and a little over 500 vendors have registered, listing a little more than 1,200 items for sale (there are more than 5,000 items in the system that are waiting to become active). Sales actually are strong for a new site, exceeding greater than $200,000 with an average sale price of ~$350. This shows strong interest in vendors listing high valued sets and taking advantage of the zero commission fee structure. Overall, Brick Classifieds has saved vendors over $20,000 in commission fees if comparing to a few structure like that on eBay. There have been a lot of enhancements on the site over the year and we continue to work on new features and tools. This week we will be updating and releasing price lookups to all the other marketplaces. This feature will show you what your item is going for on those sites and allow you to price your listing accordingly to take full advantage of the zero commissions fees but yet make more money. We are working on a few things for 2016 that could lead to a breakthrough moment for the site. I am in talks with a few developers to help build a native mobile app for the site that will allow for easy posting of new sets, minifigures and other LEGO related items. I have also had a few talks with Huw from Brickset.com to get Brick Classified's listings in front of that large community. I gave him access to an API to search for sets via keywords to appear within their LEGO database. We believe 2016 can be a breakout year for Brick Classifieds. Even though this new site may virtually disappear when put up against monsters like eBay, Amazon and BrickLink, but all sites need to start somewhere. There are some fantastic deals there to be found. Use the feature at the bottom of each listing to compare Brick Classified's price to those that might be found on eBay or Amazon. We will continue to plug away and making the site better, hopefully with the support of some of our fellow LEGO communities and our great vendors, everyone will learn that Brick Classifieds should be the first place to look when going to buy LEGO online! 16. In all seriousness, why not jump on it at $250? That's only a few dollars more than MSRP. If you are worried about it disappearing now is the time to pick it up. Some of my compatriots may have been joking about their costs, but they aren't far off. $250 may sound like a lot, but when you factor in all those things that they are doing for you, you are just putting an actual cost to what you would have had to do for yourself (gas, time, etc).

  17. The contrition is appreciated, but I'm surprised you feel like you were flamed. Not one of the responses above called you a name - I was actually expecting worse. Feel free to stay and grab some good deals, just please avoid the name calling.

  18. Thank you all for supporting the Keep St. Paul Strong - Lego Raffle! Our son is only 3-years old and attends St. Paul School. He can now write his numbers and color in the lines! Everyday we witness his growth and it is amazing. We attribute his successes in no small part to his strong teachers and the small class size at St. Paul's. Our family would sorely miss the school if we can not raise the money this year. Thanks again for the support.

  19. Made this this morning. I am sure it's been done before but I wanted to try it myself and with only things I had on hand. The only goal was to fit the Haunted House onto the modular footprint without changing the HH. I used 16x32 baseplate and 4 8x16 baseplates so it still opens up. I did not use any new parts so it had an older look and love the differing shades of tiles I was able to find. The last image shows the placement and my original plan. I had to improvise due to colors on hand but wanted to post this in case others wanted to do their own. The black is the HH house, gate, and 2 bushes so you basically have to fill in the rest. I placed it next to PS so the back door was completely unobstructed. Next to GG, FB, and DO would also work. Edit: forgot to mention, I did have to commit the unholiest of unholy acts and cut a single stud (8A) out of the back left baseplate so it could open up. 9A is not covered with a tile due to the hinge. As you can see I used green baseplates. I realized at the end I should have used gray due to the inside having an exposed floor. I may go back in and tile the inside floor to make it more modular, but since it will likely never be opened it's not a priority. http://imgur.com/a/EQ1lX

  29. I spent the whole day building this set and I have to say I'm extremely impressed. The "displayability"; mainly the expanding wing design/engines are fantastic. After building it I have more faith in this set. It was much more enjoyable to build than the Tumbler and newer ISD. If the Red Five hasn't retired it may take a while to appreciate but I do like the set regardless. May just end up with a fleet of x-wings

  30. It sounds like you weren't around for May the Fourth two years ago...the horde was in full form with this set that day... edit: It's definitely unlikely to be made as a UCS ship unless it's featured in a future movie.

  35. Birds is much more rare in Europe than in the States. Birds are at every damn retailer in the US. I was buying them from Kmart for $30 a few months ago. TRU stores near me still have a bunch. I just got back from Lego store and they had stacks of them for 20% off. This set is going to do much better in the EU.

  37. Well, do you have kids? If not then be quiet. Can't stand people w/o kids giving parenting advice. If you do have kids then how do you handle taking them out into a public place? Do you shroud them? What about a school event where everyone has a camera? Based on your comments in another thread I would focus on getting along with your wife first before having kids. You think it's stressful now wait until you have kids and money is tight around the holidays. You can't just run off to the office to balance your check book.

  38. My step-daughter and her boyfriend got me the city monster truck, 60055, and...two tickets to a monster truck rally in February. Never thought I would be going to something like that, but my wife said she wanted to go to one a while back.
