  2. Hanging is by far the best way to display it. It has a hollow core, so we used a small piece of wood painted black with an eye bolt and picture hanging wire. That way its supported from the bottom. Merry Christmas.

  5. Maybe what I didn't get. I got my wife the VW van. She has always wanted that exact van, and I've been helping her build it. Sucks no numbered bags but I'm her piece finder, she won't even let the kids build any of it. Its her first Lego set. Winning

  6. Merry Christmas! I'm excited to share the 6 "nanoscale" architecture models which I submitted in the Advent calendar contest at Brickset. 6 "nanoscale" LEGO Architecture models based on designs in The LEGO Architect book.Creating what I call "Nanoscale" LEGO models which meet the constraints of the advent calendar contest is a really interesting challenge. Specifically, the parts need to fit easily in the small compartments of the official LEGO Advent calendars, and the model should use 20 parts or fewer. Nanoscale Prairie house on right, More detailed LEGO model from the book on left.I'm also excited to share instructions to build one of these models as new bonus materials for LEGO Architecture enthusiasts, and readers of my book, The LEGO Architect. (Admittedly, this model uses 21 pieces to achieve the preferred design, but you can easily modify it to use 20 bricks.)Detailed instructions show you how to make this tiny model using only 21 common LEGO bricks. It's a pleasure to share these directions with other LEGO enthusiasts, especially around the holidays when people have some time to build LEGO projects. (I also hope that The LEGO Architect was part of your holidays.) Visit http://brickarchitect.com/book/extras/ to download and print directions for this model, as well as a tiny Neoclasssical monument.Merry Christmas and a Happy LEGO-filled New Year!---tom

  7. Yes, instructions I bought online. http://www.brickbuilderspro.com/queen-anne-victorian-instructions/ I wasn't totally satisfied as there were some odd arrangement of parts inside and no spark of creative build techniques. I think the designer builds only in LDD and not physical, so there are some nuances that would be done differently if you had actual bricks in hand. Looks good on the shelf though!

  8. This really isn't going to be a fluff article about how awesome Brick Classifieds is, but more of a small message that people are starting to take notice of it. Launching any new site is not easy at all. Google and other search engines don't even know you exist, so obtaining new customers via organic traffic is tough. Vendors that do list products don't have a lot of feedback so it's hard to show history and trust. So you might say, ok, what is so good about this? Those that have stuck it out and continued to post new quality listings with solid descriptions, real photos and priced their listings right have done well, real well. Brick Classifieds has been live for just about a year now and a little over 500 vendors have registered, listing a little more than 1,200 items for sale (there are more than 5,000 items in the system that are waiting to become active). Sales actually are strong for a new site, exceeding greater than $200,000 with an average sale price of ~$350. This shows strong interest in vendors listing high valued sets and taking advantage of the zero commission fee structure. Overall, Brick Classifieds has saved vendors over $20,000 in commission fees if comparing to a few structure like that on eBay. There have been a lot of enhancements on the site over the year and we continue to work on new features and tools. This week we will be updating and releasing price lookups to all the other marketplaces. This feature will show you what your item is going for on those sites and allow you to price your listing accordingly to take full advantage of the zero commissions fees but yet make more money. We are working on a few things for 2016 that could lead to a breakthrough moment for the site. I am in talks with a few developers to help build a native mobile app for the site that will allow for easy posting of new sets, minifigures and other LEGO related items. I have also had a few talks with Huw from Brickset.com to get Brick Classified's listings in front of that large community. I gave him access to an API to search for sets via keywords to appear within their LEGO database. We believe 2016 can be a breakout year for Brick Classifieds. Even though this new site may virtually disappear when put up against monsters like eBay, Amazon and BrickLink, but all sites need to start somewhere. There are some fantastic deals there to be found. Use the feature at the bottom of each listing to compare Brick Classified's price to those that might be found on eBay or Amazon. We will continue to plug away and making the site better, hopefully with the support of some of our fellow LEGO communities and our great vendors, everyone will learn that Brick Classifieds should be the first place to look when going to buy LEGO online! Both have been quiet for the last 5 hours, occasionally shouting "I'm on book/bag X" to compare progress Daddy got a 250 page book by two first-time authors, not sure if you guys ever heard of it: something about collecting LEGO sets for investment purposes or something ... Will let you all know if it is any good once I finish it ;-)

  17. As a countdown to the Force Awakens, I will be writing reviews on Star Wars LEGO sets this week. I haven't really done an exclusive set before. I kind of wonder if the exclusives are the sets that people would be most excited about getting, or the ones that people wouldn't mind missing. Let's dive into the Hailfire Droid set and see if it's a can't miss, or a swing and a miss. REVIEW: SET DETAILS Set #: 75085 Name: Hailfire Droid Theme: Star Wars Parts: 163 Price: $19.99 Before we get to the build, let’s talk value. At $19.99 the price per piece works out to a bit over $.12 each. This is to be on the high side of pricing for a licensed set. There are 3 minifigures Clone Trooper Lieutenant, and 2 Super Battle Droids. The Clone Lieutenant is exclusive to this set. BOX CONTENTS Some people may wind up picking up a set that is open box or, want to verify the box contents before beginning a build. For this set, there are 3 numbered baggies, 2 decorated 10x10 trans clear radar dishes and an instruction book. THE BUILD AND EXECUTION Bag 1: You build your clone trooper and the central body of the Hailfire Droid. There's not really any interesting techniques in this portion of the build. You're basically setting up a solid chunk in the middle that you are later going to pin everything to. Bag 2: This bag combines with the 2 radar dishes to create the fenders and attach the dishes as the wheels. Shown below are the fenders and the new attachment points for them. You also build both of your Super Battle Droids. I have no clue why there's a trailer hitch on this thing. Bag 3: You finish out the build by creating external fenders and the missile racks. I'm usually not a fan of these spring missiles, but for this particular set, I feel like it works. A few greeblies to give a bit more dimension to this thing, and a tilt of the wheels, and off you go. REACTION I like the look of this set. It's a fairly quick build. It needed a small gun emplacement or something for the Clone Trooper. He's massively outclassed in the firepower department, and a small build for him, would have made this seem more like a $19.99 set instead of a $14.99 set. I'd say it fits in well with all of the Geonosis stuff from 2013. Too bad that means it has been out far too long without anything to pair it with. The Super battle Droids are standard. Nothing terribly exciting about them. They're nice to fill out a scene. I like the Clone Lieutenant though. The blue pops, and looks good when mixed in with all of the standard clones. He's got a standard trooper face, not a Clone Wars one, so that's a real plus. FINAL THOUGHTS This set is overpriced. It's a Prequel Trilogy set in a Sequel Trilogy world. There's nothing big to lift it up, and there are no main characters to draw in Timmy's mom. Scene builders, completionists, and impulse buyers are probably the target market for this particular set. It looks cool, but it's not instantly recognizable in the way that an A-Wing, Luke's Landspeeder, or the Droid Escape Pod is. If they had thrown in a main character or a unique Jedi, there would probably be more demand for this set. What I haven't mentioned yet is that this an exclusive set shared by Target and the LEGO Store. In the long run, it will be harder for completionists to get if they want to fill in holes later. I don't know if the demand will ever be huge, but I anticipate the value to climb modestly just due to the fact that it is an exclusive. I would recommend pairing it with the AT-TE or Republic Gunship. Shop for it on Amazon EXTRA PIECES:

  21. Found this on SAH by chance among Sandcrawler reviews. Guy is complaining about lack of plaque. Response from LEGO:By Allison Licensed Product Specialist , Consumer Services , March 25, 2015 We are so happy that you love the UCS Sandcrawler™. To answer your concerns about the plaques for the UCS'. In the past the plaques were ment for display models only, for example: 10240 Red Five X-Wing Starfighter™ and 10227 B-Wing Starfighter™ have a plaques because both sets don't have much of the play value as the Sandcrawler and 10188 Death Star™ have. However, in the future we at the LEGO® Group will be adding plaques to all of our UCS' as everything at LEGO should to be played with and we want our fans to have fun with their bricks and builds. Thank you for your feedback and it will passed along to our awesome Star Wars™ design team. Wonder what kind of plaque they will come up for Hoth if it is indeed a UCS. Could you imagine one for EV?

  24. I appreciate the concern, I really do. I don't post pics of my other children on public forums because they're cute as hell and I don't want some sicko adding them to his/her wishlist. But she's 40 min old in this pic. If, later in life, she feels that her rights were violated or that she was somehow exploited, I will have failed as a parent because she would be an idiot. And you're right, in this day and age, I can, with a few hours of 'work', find just about anything about anyone that posts anywhere on the Internet. I've been hired by people to do just that. So your sentiment and advice is sound, if not misdirected in this case. Also, sorry to derail the thread, but I just wanted to let you all know that even if you received a 10179, I still had the best Christmas gift this year.

  25. If you buy anything from TRU today buy them in even numbers and do separate orders per sku. Bought a bunch of xmen, superman, hydras and they all end in .98 so buy one get one for 50% off. If you buy all together it will discount the cheapest stuff only. Oh and the tie fighter poly bag applies too so grabbed a bunch of those.

  27. Well, do you have kids? If not then be quiet. Can't stand people w/o kids giving parenting advice. If you do have kids then how do you handle taking them out into a public place? Do you shroud them? What about a school event where everyone has a camera? Based on your comments in another thread I would focus on getting along with your wife first before having kids. You think it's stressful now wait until you have kids and money is tight around the holidays. You can't just run off to the office to balance your check book.

  39. The success of this set as an investment is likely to vary market by market. I drew a line as there are just too many negatives in my market compared with sets of a similar price: 1) TLG lowered the official price a few months ago. 2) The usual resellers all have multiple copies and the only ones sold in recent months have been well below RRP. 3) It was available at 25% off or some time in a major chain and didn´t sell out 4) AA and other Super Heroes sets are among the hardest to move on here - see Chima and Ninjago 5) That retiring soon tag I am sure there will be many places where this set will be exactly the opposite - we can check in in a year´s time to see.

  41. They must be getting a ton of complaints about the JW poly. My returns on those have been very very high as compared to other sets. I think that people are making an assumption based on the price that they are paying that what they should be getting is more than a single polybag.

  42. Built the Temple of Airjitsu and Sensei Wu's Dragon. First, ToA is an incredible set. I can't believe it doesn't get more pub for the incredible display it is. It's truly a breathtaking set, and one that deserves a place among the best of the best. Sensei Wu's Dragon is also a great build. I have built almost all of the Ninjago Dragons, and this one is great. The brick built head really shines, and the minifigures are excellent. Plus, it comes with a husky - an added bonus for an already great set! Both are great sets and highly recommended.

  43. When I first built the 8043 I thought it was amazing and it is, but can it be better? Awhile back I posted the Ultimate 42009 which is a marvel of technic engineering and here is another MOC / MOD (that is what he calls it, but the changes are substantial) by Jurgen Krooshoop. The Ultimate 8043 In addition to 4 included M motors, there is an additional M and XL motor, 2 sets of lights, and an extra IR receiver and controler. All functions can operate at the same time but it is difficult to drive and operate any the other functions. I have to say, this is by far the best playability technic model I have built thus far and the modification from the original makes it easier to operate and a lot more robust. I also changed the dark grey threads to black, the way I think they should be!

  44. Last week I built the 10246 Detective's Office and although I appreciate it, I don't really love it. It's very small compared to other buildings and suffers the same problem that the Market Street and Pet Shop have: By splitting the building vertically, the interiors of the building are too small. My other big complaint is that the building is very shallow. The pool hall is very well done and the detective's part is nice but I would prefer a secretary's office across from it. The barber shop exists and I have seen enough 'S' letters in the modular buildings; they don't look good. This week (and weekend), I built the 10243 Parisian Restaurant. I waited until I built the 10246 because of all the great things I had heard about the Restaurant and I wanted this to be just an ok build because I love the Green Grocer... Unfortunately (for me), this set is a construction home run! The details in the dining area and the kitchen are phenomenal, especially the chain fencing. The external staircase really works well with the 2nd dining patio and the adjoining pullout bed is a clever design (needs a rug!). The art loft/studio is a nice addition and I really appreciated the way that the fireplace was designed. Overall, the Parisian Restaurant is a great size and used nice techniques overall, including for the roofing and the first floor pillars, using food accessories, and to create offsets with jumper tiles. Simply a fabulous build and my new favorite. ETA - My only complaint is that the balconies should be one stud deeper on the modular buildings.
