poe 75102 sold via CL for $100 paid $56 at ShopKo 10 minutes before the sale. Wish my store had more. Was really my first true QFLL and the feeling was great. The ShopKo shares the same parking lot as the movie theatre and a dad wanted to surprise his son with this after they were done watching the movie.9 points

I sold 5 gallimimus trap polybags (30320) to the same buyer on eBay for $125 shipped! I wish I would have gotten more of them lol. These things put that $10 Dino set (5882) to shame and I owe alpine my gratitude since he grabbed them for me6 points

Just want to add that I've been holding onto these for months for him, and just handed them over yesterday. Awful nice of me not to "lose" these in my garage or charge him the going rate.5 points

I had the pleasure of interviewing Serafin Maranan of Architects Orange and LEGO Artist Christina Griffin Hull about their collaboration to bring the architecture firm's latest building to life as a LEGO model. It was really interesting to learn about how Serafin brought his experience as an architect, and Christina helped translate architectural language into LEGO elements. LEGO Model of "Urbana" in San Diego. Serafin explained that “Urbana is a 6 story mixed-use infill project in downtown San Diego. It contains 96 rental units and over 1,100 square feet of retail. It has garnered many design awards and one of Architects Orange’s seminal projects.” Photo of the real building. I shared some highlights from the interview here, and you can read the whole article at http://brickarchitect.com/2015/urbana-architects-orange/ Serafin: “Christina and I complemented each other. As an architect, I understand and appreciate scale, proportion, accent, color, detail and alignment to make the kit of parts fit my vision of the model. But Christina’s vast understanding of what LEGO parts to use and innate understanding of LEGO building techniques to execute my vision was paramount to the model’s success.” Christina: “Serafin came into the shop with ... blueprints, photos, and drawings for me to work off of. He came in every few weeks to check in on the build. ... The most helpful was when he would mark up the photos of the model and send them back to me.” Some details from the LEGO Model Christina: “We tried to come in with the model reflecting the overall “feeling” of the buildings design while showing “pops” of details that were precise.” Urbana in profile. LEGO Model and Architect's renderings. Serafin: “I would like to use LEGO in our office as a design or presentation tool if the right opportunity arises but I’m not sure if we have anyone in our office who can do that or have access to so many parts.” For the whole interview and more photos, visit http://brickarchitect.com/2015/urbana-architects-orange/ Sincerely, ---tom4 points

I'm getting a serious case of deja blue, here... Holidays are the best time for selling all the "junk" I pick up on clearance 10 months earlier, not for unloading serious investments, as far as I'm concerned.4 points
-
Maybe the price drops on major exclusives around the Holidays are due to the simple fact people need money and will sell for less to quickly obtain it. I would estimate the vast amount of people selling for lower prices are impatient and/or short term types too anxious to wait for the right buyers. The Holidays really put a squeeze on people and force them to react differently than they normally would.4 points

Yeah, you're right. I've never seen a movie where a droid escapes with valuable information on a desert planet, only to be found by accident by a person that has fantastic powers but doesn't know it, and is chased by an army of white armored soldiers lead by a black suited leader, stopping off at a cantina of weird aliens, then onto a weapon capable of destroying a planet by using a giant beam, where a rescue is performed, a mentor is killed during the rescue, and it turns out the weapon has one weakness that can be exploited by flying down a trench. Sounds all new to me!4 points

Spoilers for episode IX After mortally injuring Kylo Ren, Rey (who refuses to turn to the dark side, regardless of her destiny), is in the process of being killed by his master (who has just given up trying). Kylo Ren will then lift the master (up, over his head) and throw him down a shaft, killing him. There will then be lots of dancing, singing, ewoks, and gungan type celebrations (maybe even some smiling Han, Luke, & Leia ghosts).3 points

Christmas Holiday is the worst time to sell exclusives as many sellers are actively looking to off load and not what consumers are looking to buy putting a downwards pressure on price3 points

Hi All- Thank you for the awesome info on this site! I fell into Lego reselling exactly a year ago. This is by far my favorite site for information. Up until now, I mainly have dealt in used Legos. I've been lucky to find some gems on Craigslist. My husband, three kids (ages 6, 4 and 2) and I love building. (4 and 2 year olds are awesome color sorters!) My 6-year old has an insatiable Lego appetite and has already declared he will design Legos as his job when he grows up. I think his favorite build so far was the Tower Bridge. (In one year, we have built Imperial Flagship, HP Castle, many Star Wars UCS, Market Street, Cafe Corner, Fire Brigade, Black Seas Barracuda, etc...) We have fun building and then selling. In my first year, we have profited close to $8k. If you asked me at the beginning of the year, I would have said that I would have been pleased with a few hundred dollars in my pocket. I just started dipping my toe in the water with buying new sets. I kept noticing the plethora of 75919 Indominus Rex' at our Lego store, so I thought I'd purchase some and give it a try. So far so good! I'm an addict to the forum dealing with the fruitcakes on eBay. It is a great forum for laughter, learning and venting. If anyone can recommend good forums for following the deals on new sets, I would appreciate it. Also, any good threads to read on buying new? Again many thanks and happy holidays!2 points

Paraphrasing from another member on the TH thread: The three worst mistakes in reselling: auction, ebay, and Christmastime. I guess that makes R2 auctions on eBay right now the worst decision ever... just putting 2 and 2 together here. There is a season for everything, and Christmas is not time to unload high end collectibles. The people who buy them are busy buying junk for their kids and Aunt Gladys.2 points

exclusive's taking a price hit a christmas is sort of a known trend. people are out bargain hunting for gifts to give to someone else so its not too surprising they turn into a cheapa$$. marketplace is flooded with sellers because of the perception that Christmas is the time to move stock (at a crappier price point) which exceeds the demand for sets and then the price suffers. let's see how any of these retired exclusives are doing in April and May when people are getting their tax refunds.2 points

I think people just love to be miserable. I don't always have a lot of sets that really take off, but with the help of this forum, a lot of research and hard work I can confidently and honestly state that I have never taken a loss on a Lego set (and I'm also not sitting on anything that is already retired that I anticipate taking a loss on). Instead of focusing on the potential missed profit, I revel in every sale I make. I smile when I see a 'your item sold, prepare to ship now'. Life is good, but I'm a Lego Brick Half Full kinda guy, I guess. To get back on track, I'm pretty happy with 10225. I think some of the ebay fee promos (coupled with sellers wanting to cash in for the holidays) has caused a little stagnation on some of the class of '14 sets. That being said, I doubt those that are selling are going to investors, so hopefully end users are opening up, building and displaying R2 this winter. I still think patience is the key here.2 points

Because I bought 3 sets of tickets back when they first went on sale. And I wanted to give it a fair shake. It almost seems like Episode IV reimagined. I saw Episode IV 10 times in the theater in 1977-78, and countless times on VHS/DVD/Bluray since, so that could be why this does not feel new. If I had never seen the previous films, I would say this was a good film, but I just can't get past the zillion similarities to a movie I saw almost 40 years ago. It's as if Disney went back to square one on this one, and used Ep IV as the formula. I wonder how bad the original plot they rejected was (if they did).2 points

Not sure where to post this as this is not an official set nor is it a MOC (as I did not create this build)…but I purchased the Starlight Train Station from BrickBuildersPro http://www.brickbuilderspro.com/ (I need to make sure to give credit to them because they do great work) about a year ago. We were planning on a trip and my youngest had never been to an airport or on a plane. So, we Bricklink’ed all the parts and customized/stole/borrowed others ideas to change the train station into an airport in our Lego city. We were able to explain what was going to happen on our trip to the airport step by step, and I think the airport turned out nicely. (We have not fully customized the entire interior yet, but that work will be done over the next year). I do not remember the number of pieces, the cost (thank goodness) or the amount of time involved. But we enjoyed the process. PS - Sorry for my lack of photo skills...2 points

If you wait a few months, Battle of Takodana will be had for the mid 40's or so. Maybe even lower. It will be interesting to see whats in the summer wave this year, but once those hit, I suspect many of these FA sets through the first two waves will start to fall in price.. I'm going to try and pick up the Droid Escape Pod, and those two battle packs at RRP for the personal collection around January 1st but, i'm going to wait for the others… I think many of the Force Awakens, and these winter wave sets will easily be bought at 25% or less going into next christmas season. The carbon freezing chamber is a bit disappointing. I'm hoping they have some other segment in the plans for the summer 2016 wave that can be added to this set to more complete the freezing chamber scene on cloud city (like jabba's palace/rancor pit), because this set isn't complete in my opinion. The hoth attack set, i'll probably wait until I see the Assault on Hoth set before getting that one. If it works with it, i'll pick some up to flush out that set. The obi-wan set I might buy one as an investment just to put in a longer term investment box with anakin's interceptor, the vulture droid, and the droid tri-fighter. But, that's not a first day buy... The others are all a bit of a pass. After seeing the movie, even Leia's ship isn't a first day buy… to me that's a clearance buy in 2017. Hopefully, the summer wave has some bigger sets with the Force Awakens… who knows what they are cooking up for Rogue One or when those get released.. but with that on the horizon, I suspect the Force Awakens period of merchandise that started last September and probably will start to phase out come July has a limited 18 month retail window, IMO!1 point

Ok... you guys know I am not famous for my positivity about the lego market in general. But concerning R2D2 I cannot be negative. Just a reminder... 18 months ago an MISB Green Grocer could be had for 450 euro. Look at it now! So just give the little droid a chance. There is still some stock to chew. But when it gets down a certain level... up it goes!1 point

I prefer a good force choking rather than tantrums from grown men with daddy issues. The scene where he is throwing his second tantrum and the two stormies hurriedly turn away is hilarious. I can imagine them rolling their eyes in their helmets and thinking "this was not in the brochure".1 point
