  4. If your LEGO investing strategy is built around surprise retirements (TH), it's simply unsustainable. I'm not sure flipping is a sustainable strategy, either. I know it's not for me. My Tumblers are going into long term storage. Years from now, when the kids who couldn't afford these as teen/tween fans of The Dark Knight are making bank as young kid-free professionals, we cash in on their sentimentality. I'm not saying I'll hold them that long if the price is right, but that's what long term investing is about.

  10. Amazon FBM - Someone bit on a Star Wars 3-in-1 Super Pack 66473 with AT-TE, Homing Spider Droid, and Corporate Alliance Tank Droid for $286 plus expedited shipping credit. Fortunately they were in NY so Priority Mail shipping was cheap for me. I was able to net $244 after fees and shipping and my purchase price was around the $100 range from TRU.

  11. Not sure where to post this as this is not an official set nor is it a MOC (as I did not create this build)…but I purchased the Starlight Train Station from BrickBuildersPro http://www.brickbuilderspro.com/ (I need to make sure to give credit to them because they do great work) about a year ago. We were planning on a trip and my youngest had never been to an airport or on a plane. So, we Bricklink’ed all the parts and customized/stole/borrowed others ideas to change the train station into an airport in our Lego city. We were able to explain what was going to happen on our trip to the airport step by step, and I think the airport turned out nicely. (We have not fully customized the entire interior yet, but that work will be done over the next year). I do not remember the number of pieces, the cost (thank goodness) or the amount of time involved. But we enjoyed the process. PS - Sorry for my lack of photo skills...

  12. Let us see we could have - Half a Death Star 1977 updated doll house appear - Half a Death Star 1977 updated super detailed expert collector's set appear - A full Death Star 1977 updated doll house appear - A full Death Star 1977 updated super detailed expert collector's set appear - A full Star Killer Death Star 2015 super detailed expert collector's set appear I am sticking with my original prediction the death star is done: - Death Star 10188 .... All 1977 variations Long Live the Death Star: - A full Star Killer Death Star 2015 detailed expert collector's set will be released I think the old Death Star is going to be gold that being said NEVER invest more than you would put in a stock market with international risk equity investments IE I am not telling anyone to buy the 10188 I could be very wrong. But it is what I personally believe and am choosing to do.

  13. If shipping hurts that bad stop offering it up for free. eBay offers a calculated shipping option, use it. It will even charge the buyer full price while you get a discount so you will make a bit off of it. Instead of just complaining about it do something different for a change.

  14. Wow alot of people have 50+? You guys are my heroes! Whatever! I highly doubt that there are many people here with 50+. I am sure many will claim this though. This thread is getting hilarious. Weird that we see all these claims of MASSIVE hoards but few pictures. Let me guess...50+ of a set can't fit into a camera shot?

  15. Pretty good sample of reviews. Looks like the film will be ranked up there with Empire and A New Hope. Pretty cool. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/star-wars-the-force-awakens-gets-the-nostalgia-novelty-mix-just-right/2015/12/15/c2e8a38e-a365-11e5-b53d-972e2751f433_story.html?hpid=hp_no-name_hp-in-the-news%3Apage%2Fin-the-news http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2015/12/16/review-star-wars-the-force-awakens/77342318/ http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/18/movies/star-wars-the-force-awakens-review.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=second-column-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&_r=0 http://entertainment.suntimes.com/movies/star-wars-force-awakens-review-thrills-strong-one/ note: not that it matters much but Adam F. 17. znj, great point. i'll do my best Ed Mack cryptic post impression. "Some sets will win, some will lose. Some were born to avoid the blues. Oh, the Batman franchise never ends. It goes on and on and on and on. Tumblers driving in the twilight before the frantic chase resumes since remembered it was but alas, no more. "

  18. Don't overthink this set. It's a winner. Batman is always a winner. They need to move inventory for other big boxed sets. This set will be completely irrelevant in the Batman movie LEGO set world in a few months and they need them gone. People will miss it when it's gone.

  21. How can you not care if a particular set is heavily hoarded or not ?
    3 points
  22. I want to clear up this misconception that appears to confuse so many. ALL Lego sets are heavily hoarded. However it's not so much the amount of stock on the secondary market that depicts its price but more the demand.

  23. Here in the US, this set has been widely available at Lego Stores and online at SAH, Amazon, Toys R Us (OOS now), Walmart, Barnes and Noble, and Target. With minimal effort. one can stockpile a dozen plus in a given week so you better believe that It's been, and will be hoarded by the horde. That said, I think this set will be highly collectible but as with any exclusive in the modern Lego reselling market, it will be a slow climb to 2x RRP.

  25. I guess this counts as building. Have to share the story. My grandfather passed away last year. He liked to build model airplanes and things but had never mentioned Lego at all. So I get a package in the mail from my grandmother that I opened today, addressed to my kids. Inside is a note that says grandpa had bought a couple of sets at one point to tinker with, and she thought my kids would put them to good use now. One set is 4095 from the Inventor series (which my son is furiously trying to put together now). Has some sort of battery pack recorder thing we have to figure out. Very cool. The other set was a yellow and chrome broken mess...that I realized was the 10026 UCS Naboo Starfighter. Now rebuilt, 100% complete with nameplate and everything. Unfortunately no instructions - had no idea how expensive those suckers are! Only 3 on Bricklink for like $90 each lol. Anyway I have never liked that Naboo Starfighter, but it certainly will hold a new place of honor in our house now. :-)

  27. The perception around here seems to think if The Lego Group has a retiring soon tag, its trying to get rid of extra stock or that it may be a slow end; especially in this case with The Tumbler & even the Death Star limit 1. I look at each case individually( YOU HAVE TO). IMO Lego is being nice in this case & broadcasting hey everyone, these are available right now, better get them while you can. Take it!

  28. You might expect this from someone with 0% feedback, but not the case here. This person is an experienced eBay buyer. And I quote... "Thank you will mail check this week" sent to me via message regarding an auction that ended. Can I just go ahead and cancel the order? Who still sends checks? Really? I thanked them for their winning bid and said I only take paypal. If they do not pay or respond at 48 hour mark, I will send them a cancel order link.

  29. I've been using a mix of free shipping and calculated shipping for about a year now. There really isn't much difference between the two as far as what sells higher/faster. If an item is priced appropriately it will sell. I have noticed that my items that use calculated shipping tend to sell to buyers that are in zones nearby (surprise surprise) probably because I'm less expensive than the free shipping folks even though I am making more $$$. eBay charges you the same rate for shipping and final value anyway so you may as well make their system work to your best advantage. Or just complain about it. I would rather try and keep a bit more $$$. And the ignore function would block out too many delightful conversations such as this.

  32. It's a little bit of work but just set your BIN with free shipping price to the price you want plus shipping across the country. In many cases, Alaska and Puerto Rico are the same price as shipping from WA to FL or vice versa. The added benefit is that you make a couple of extra bucks when you ship something nearby.

  33. I don't know about that. I looked at Maersk trains and ships from 2010 forward and they all seem to settle in the 200-300. Given that EEE is already there, I would say it is doing fine. Everybody seems to be in the Hum-Drum Vee. Who cares if tumbler gets is hoarded. It is a great, unique UCS set and will do great. If you are worried about tying up a little cash, maybe go invest in Elves sets instead. Even if you just double up on your investment, you are DOUBLING UP! Have fun, make a little money. Ship at half the cost of a DS...

  36. I would suspect that this has been an underperforming set for Lego- hence the retiring soon tag. That said it is an awsome looking model but has zero play factor as the wheels do not move. It will cater to afol's but if it is heavily hoarded which I expect is the case by now it will rise slowly. This kind of set will not be remade, so it will be a 3-5 year hold in my opinion to really start to see the dollar signs. Anyone who thinks that there is not a lot of reseller competition is kidding themselves.

  38. Really depends on how soon is "soon". If it disappears in a week that tag won't make any difference. If it lingers for six months ala' EEE then, thats a bit problematic.
