The remaking of the UCS sets is bad for all LEGO investors. The impact is not only on the original sets that are remade, but on the line overall. Most buyers of the high flyers are speculators, who after getting burned (multiple times now) will certainly learn to avoid getting burnt again. Even the wealthy LEGO collectors (who aren't buying for investment, but for enjoyment) would certainly prefer to avoid making unwise purchases (this is usually a trait which helps to create that wealth). Although it doesn't alter your thought process or methods on investing, it probably should. I know you buy and buy, and do not sell - you have faith in the overall LEGO valuation continuing to rise (which is reasonable to believe). One day when you sell, you will be pleased with the results. Happy to have avoided all the good/bad investing decisions. But you are an exception - most investors need to understand that these re-releases are relevant, and should have an impact on how one chooses to invest. They are relevant and they don't help values long term, I agree. I am also a realist and realize their is a ceiling for many of these sets. Obviously, I am the "whale" collector that likes to stockpile all sorts of sets. My Brickfoilio is widely varied and I have many TMNTs, Lone Ranger, Prince of Persia, Atlantis and other subpar performers because I like the sets. I have all the older UCS sets, but I really don't care because they are keepers to me anyway. I have a few duplicates, but most I have a built copy and a sealed copy. I don't have 10 or 20 of a set like that. Only recently have I been stockpiling sets, but now I have shifted back to my original plan of buying one to build and one or two to save. I buy all themes and intriguing sets from those themes. Yes, the new STAR WARS movies are both a blessing and a curse for LEGO collecting, but as always, pick the right sets and they will appreciate well. The market is still strong, but no way as easy as it once was. But I build a set everyday with my son and see his reaction and my own and realize this is no commodity. It's the best damn toy ever created and there will always be people like myself wanting them all.7 points

To be fair, the UCS snowspeeder was released over a decade ago. Considering how rare it is by now, it might as well have never existed as far as many people are concerned. And they have put out some good new UCS sets recently, like the Slave I.7 points

If we have to rely on Lego Movies to showcase stuff then we are all in trouble! Ciglione will no doubt be praying for a time travel scene where Benny travels to the Wild West and meets the Lone Ranger then goes forward to drive a Unimog through the wall of Arkham Asylum.4 points

patience will be rewarded with this set. its been gone barely a year. there is bp blog article discussing an established pattern of modulars and other large exclusive's taking a price hit at this time of the year when resellers come out of hibernation. there is no doubt that influx of sellers will stretch out the x axis on the growth curve. still, at some point, you get to the seller's market where the people holding don't have to sell, and have figured out how much they want and are willing to wait it out. the seller's market is when there is significant price appreciation in a short amount of time. there will be a market for this set and there will be people paying top dollar. you have to ask yourself are you willing to wait it out and is it worth it to get to goal. given the remarkably short run of this set and sudden disappearance, the answer for me is yes. this recent trend points out that its not always up and to the right and there is likely a seasonal seller bubble more than accomodating any seasonal uptick in demand of what is still going to be a limited demand. only so many folks shelling out hundreds for a lego set. some folks have to sell. the price goes down. no discussion of a bubble over in the taj mahal thread. it will be interesting to see how TH is doing in 2018 when I would imagine we are getting into the seller market phase.2 points

Disappointing that LEGO cannot come up with new and unique UCS sets without rehashing old versions that were done quite well. There are plenty of different vehicles and characters they can be recreated in ABS plastic without having to resort to duplicating retired sets.2 points

That are alot of UCS sets coming next year than. Wonder which other UCS set will be sacrificed. So... 10188 DS for the new DS. Hoth Base for Ewok Village. Snowspeeder for Red-5?2 points

Inventory placement service is going to increase your per-item fulfillment cost by whatever the rate is - $.50, maybe? It's something you can turn on and off once you know where the setting is; it might be worth using inventory placement if you want to send them 80 of one set in a single box. CA to Jersey might make it for the last little bit of the holiday window. Ship Monday, could arrive Friday (and if it doesn't maybe get backorder status with Prime shipping just in time for Christmas). I wouldn't count on it but you could get lucky. And while sales drop precipitously right after the Christmas deadline, in my experience they don't absolutely crater until after the new year.2 points
-
They get distributed all over the country unless you sign up for their placement service ( additional fees included ). And no, you can't just drop it off at your local warehouse .2 points
-
You cannot drop them off. You will ship your product where Amazon chooses you to ship them. After a while you will notice a pattern for the shipping plan destination based on number of units, time of day, time of year and a few other settings so you can more easily get a fulfillment center close by and not a distribution center. Some distribution centers you will want to avoid at all cost. Good news is you can always delete a shipping plan before approving it if you don't like what warehouses they are giving you. After approving a shipment you will want to make sure not to cancel as more than a few of those will get you suspended.2 points

Yesterday morning I saw that AT-ATs are going for a lot on eBay. Probably because they are nowhere to be found in stores. Listed one for $170, sold in 3 hours. Relisted another one at $185 this morning, sold in two hours. I'm pretty sure I wasn't the lowest price on either of these. Decided to relist another at $250 and see if anybody takes the bait.2 points

I did build the new X-Wing and the new TIE-Fighter. Must say that the new X-Wing looks way better than expected and the "bringing my wings into attack positions" mechanism gave me more fun than it should have done ^.^ Also firing these missiles has been fun *g* Thanks to 4 missiles and the rubber band mechanism the x-wing is superior to the TIE-Fighter as a toy. The X-Wing is also worth its money though! Both are very nice builds!1 point

Yup. Mine won't sell some of them in person but my purchases online for store pick up seem to go through. Strange, strange store...1 point

I am totally convinced my closest tru hides all the polys. Website says c3pos are available for pickup but I just got back from the store and I couldn't find any. I wasn't going to buy any but figured they should be somewhere in the store. Stormtrooper polys were not out either. Place was packed so I didn't bother to inquire about the possibility of selling them separate. Looks like I will just wait until they are available online.1 point

Then let us hope the new Brick Bank will put some attention on the other modulars as well. Can't we agree that TH is not as scarce as we thought it was? Most that have been sold after EOL are bought by resellers. Thinking it would go to 1000 euro in a year. So they all stayed sealed. Which is a bad thing. They need to be bought by end-users and get their place on chimneys and cities.1 point

Except for the occasional RE most of my sales have been the cheap junk.... no bueno1 point

Weirdly nothing today, after 62 consecutive days of sales, netting a good profit. Waiting for the panic buyers who want everything shipped express in the next few days, hopefully. If not, hey ho, nothing lost1 point

Had a Amazon buyer threaten to return a Decorating the Tree polybag because it didn't come in a box and the pieces were so old that the white pieces were yellowed. I politely told her that it was sold in a bag and the set was only two years old so it would be impossible for the pieces to be yellowed by age. Didn't hear back from her and she didn't return it. Lots of BS to deal with selling on Amazon.1 point

Sometimes items indicate delivery before delivery actually happens, since the update can happen as soon as the parcel hits the destination post office. Occasionally a package gets misdelivered and the problem resolves itself in a couple of days. And sometimes the carrier left a slip for pickup at the post office that got blown away / thrown away. Asking questions like "is there someone else living with you who could have received the package and forgotten to tell you about it?" can get results. You can also call their local post office and ask the supervisor to check with the carrier. Document this and follow up with the buyer whenever you get new information. And: I don't want to be cynical, and YMMV, but a surprising amount of the time, telling the customer that you're going to file a request for an investigation into the theft with USPIS and asking for their cooperation in said investigation results in a miraculous discovery of the package. Just make sure you phrase it in a way that makes it clear that you're proactively trying to solve a mutual problem, rather than implying that you suspect them of lying to obtain free product. Lastly, issuing a refund or sending a replacement is better than getting an A-to-Z claim, as far as your metrics are concerned. The occasional refund is the cost of doing business (and you're "insured" via the 10-20% price bump you get from selling on Amazon vs other marketplaces).1 point

Thanks. Although nothing to write home about really... When are we going to have Galeria-like discounts...1 point

Walgreens had a crazy deal today. 20% off entire purchase with friends and family code on the app. In addition, if you hit $100 in a transaction then you get $20 to spend on an purchase $30 or more next week. To add to that, you still rack up balance rewards. I hauled in a bunch of microfighters (lots of MF and tie-fighters), Series 1 Simpsons, Series 3 and 4 Mixels sets, and penguin faceoffs to hit $100. I will use the $20 on some The Dungeon sets next week where I could end up paying $10 each set. EDIT: Forgot to mention I used Apply Pay with Discover to get additional 10% cashback.1 point

Interesting idea. Here's what they deployed at Legoland California earlier this year, that's similar to what you describe: There are also micro scenes like this: There is also a trench run diorama:1 point

Look at the buy limit of 1 on SAH all over the world. That is probably the reason it has not gone poof yet. Same for most of the exclusive sets. Lego seem to be holding true to their promise to ensure the sets are readily available to all fans, as the firm is setting limit of 1 at an earlier stage so that all fans get a fair shot at buying at least 1 set. Hoarders and investors have to adapt and buying small batches over a longer period of time, instead of rushing at the last moment. This is new normal.1 point

Sold my highest item ever yesterday!!!! 10182 Cafe Corner - $879.99 (used, no box) Emailed buyer to remind them of signature requirement (of course they haven't responded). And double boxed pieces since every box I receive lately seems to be crushed.1 point

Finished up Sandcrawler after spending a couple evenings on it. Sooooo much brown. Much better than 10144 and way more sturdy. I don't totally love how they filled in the spaces on the sides between the big panels but it worked. I don't know if I was tired when building, but I messed up a few times on the technic stuff and had to rebuild the crane and attached some pins in the wrong spot. The instructions weren't really clear in a couple spots. Really like the figures and the updated droids that came with this. Probably going to crack open a Red 5 next before it gets too expensive for me to willingly break one open and buy one used like I'll likely have to do with 10225 (R2)1 point

I bought 36. I bought about 40 of them last year. Last year, I got about half at $15 and half at $12. I sold all my superboys at $15 and my Lloyds at $11. I've sold about 35 of the Lavertus for $5 each and 20 of the city figs at $4 each. Cost $540. Sales $1320. Fees about $160. Postage and supplies about $388. Profit approx $232. Pretty great roi, and once you make the listing, it takes what, a minute to pack and ship? Price is better this year and the city figure is way better too. We'll have to see if that Ninjago figure is a good seller. I understand that a lot of people wouldn't be interested, but I don't think this investment makes one not smart.1 point
