I could be wrong and I know I am a lopsided Star Wars nerd though not approaching the level of knowledge of the expert jaisonline or anywhere close (said genuinely) but the level of disbelief I am seeing in the death star, the isd, the at at, and so many other things on this site is breath taking yeah at at terrible perform it goes out of stock, could buy at toys r us for 85 bucks with discounts and it is almost 200 on amazon the death star a few months ago went out of stock on amazon and went to 600 bucks almost instantly and hovered for a while, yet someday when it really is gone it may approach 1.5 x MSRP ? either there are a lot of people putting down lego investing because they want sellers to go away or I live on another planet called Halfus Fullus while others live on Completus Emptius Today is the day to celebrate the Death Star imo it deserves respect and admiration (note this is just my personal feelings on the topic by all means debate, discuss and throw out my beliefs, that is what this site is for, I just want to note that I am genuinely taken aback by the posts) Carry on with the bashing10 points

Sorry, but all I see is a bunch of complaining about a pricing error for a product that was "selling" at 95% off.10 points

The Smyths Tumbler price has been posted on hot UK Deals and as per usual it's full comments from members preaching about how investing in Lego makes huge returns. These people are the type that really grate on me, actively trying to recruit people into Lego reselling without any sense of gain other than spreading the love and trying to accrue some kudos. They're clearly new and inexperienced resellers because if they'd been selling for any period of time they would understand that when supply is larger than demand prices stagnate and decline. All they see is Town Halls and UCS Millennium Falcons. It's downright counter productive to keep preaching the advantages of reselling without any financial gain. Sheesh!6 points

I just want to mention, when I picked up my $27 10697s, I didn't have any trouble getting my $48 10697s price adjusted at the Customer Service desk. Just show your receipts and explain that you want to adjust for the lower price that was 1-2 days apart.5 points

It's that time of year, when you do something nice for someone else, to be generous, to say thanks and take time to appreciate what you have and what you can give. None of us would be here taking advantage of one of the best resources of our new found hobby in LEGO collecting/investing if it weren't for two brothers, our fearless leaders, Jeff and Ed. If you'd like to send them a little Holiday gratitude Pm me. mods: if there's a more appropriate place for this post please move it and add a stickie while you're at it.4 points

I took my $48 set back because I only wanted 3 sets and I managed to order 1 at $30 and 2 at $27. However, waiting in the return line was 20 minutes of irritation and then the actual return was screwy for some reason even though I had the emailed receipt and the paper receipt clearly showing how much I paid. For some reason the computer did not want to refund the full amount so the manager had to come over and she couldn't figure it out either and finally just overrode it. I was contemplating complaining about the ridiculous amount of time I spent trying to return something (it ended up being about 40 minutes total), but then I thought of how annoying their jobs must be what with the guy inexplicably being angry about who knows what, the guy yelling at his credit card company over his cell phone and telling them they could shove the card up their (starts with a ends with s), and the numerous clueless people trying to return $3 items with no receipt etc. My daughter was with me and she was pretty fascinated by the cell phone guy. A teachable moment for sure. :-)4 points

Finished up Sandcrawler after spending a couple evenings on it. Sooooo much brown. Much better than 10144 and way more sturdy. I don't totally love how they filled in the spaces on the sides between the big panels but it worked. I don't know if I was tired when building, but I messed up a few times on the technic stuff and had to rebuild the crane and attached some pins in the wrong spot. The instructions weren't really clear in a couple spots. Really like the figures and the updated droids that came with this. Probably going to crack open a Red 5 next before it gets too expensive for me to willingly break one open and buy one used like I'll likely have to do with 10225 (R2)4 points

I will own up to not having any sealed. I have one that was missing about 100 pieces (I've pretty much taken care of that) and all the minis. I'm good sitting this one out, and letting the rest of you deal with it. I have no doubt you all will be successful, and that you will see good returns on this set. I have no doubt, now that's it's reaching this status, that things are looking up. It just doesn't fit in with my own personal investment strategy.4 points

10188 is a great set. I had two in my inventory. Now I have one. Sold the other during some eBay promo that helped it turn a $45 profit. I'll probably keep the other one for a good long time. If not as an investment, then out of nostalgia... the 10188 was born right about the same time as my son. But I don't know if I'll be accumulating more, unless they come with a real discount. I just can't wait on the Death Star anymore. I enjoy this investing game more when there's action. I enjoy the hunt. I enjoy the buying and selling, and making a quick buck. I bought 4 Lego this morning for $200. Put them on Amazon, sold them all, and pocketed $300. I love that. I just might go out tomorrow and do it again. To make 50% profit on a DS, I'm going to have to see $750 - 775 on Amazon, or $725 on eBay. Sure it will get there... but when? How many hundreds of dollars in profit will I have missed while I wait? And of course, it's not just the DS... I'm feeling this way about most big exclusives anymore. Too much money tied up for too long, for too little. There is so much more money to be made playing "small ball". Of course everyone has their investment strategy. I speaking mostly to new investors who are mulling over how many DS's they can get, and how fast. If you don't have a 10188 yet, get one now. It is a MUST BUILD for every Lego / Star Wars fan. Maybe even get another as an investment. But don't go out buying 4, or 8, or 20 unless you just have piles of cash sitting around and no idea what to do with it.4 points

You must be new here (welcome): Past history indicates that Lego's scheduled production runs are set well in advance, as they should be. Previous speculation was that Surely, Lego would keep R2-D2 around until the next movie and Surely, the Haunted House would be around until Halloween. [and surely, the Death Star will have retired by now haha!] Neither survived and the value of each has gone up accordingly.3 points

Went into tru for truth this morning and picked up a Dr. Who set. Shelf price was still showing $59.99 instead of the $64.99. It rang up as $64.99 but they price adjusted and I was still able to use 20% coupon and get 10% truth discount. Paid using Apple Pay to get 22% cash back from discover it card. $36 out pocket plus their last hulk poly.3 points

What about Red 5? And don't worry I have my fair share of that one but LEGO did us no favors by continuing production so far into this year. I'm not here to bash the Death Star (heck I have 6 of them myself) but people have their reasons for not hopping on the DS train which is now finally leaving the station. Not everyone has $400 to invest in a set for the long-term and many probably believe there are better places to put your money. For example, would you rather have 4 AT-ATs or 1 DS at this point? Trek, I know the answer for you is probably both, but some people have to go one route or the other and with the DS being so long in the tooth with a possible remake on the horizon I can see why they are skeptical. It's nothing to take personally though.3 points

You can't pay me $160 to wait in line at the post office. I drop off packages all the time without waiting for a receipt. And yes, it's very common for items to not receive tracking updates. Not sure the reason, but it's happened a lot for me.3 points

(Off-topic) Another statement I probably won't win any friends with, but Baseball and Soccer for me are two of the all-time most boring sports to watch. I just don't understand why they are so popular - which is one reason I stopped trying to understand other hypes as well, like Star Wars or whatever. Having a directly opposite opinion than over 1 billion soccer fans in the world and an additonal "I dont know how many millions" SW fans... but I dont complain, not being part of the majority is fun on its own.2 points

The OG OT was pretty bad but I just watched the remastered ones are they aren't that bad. I know they caught alot of flack for remastering but they had to. They were pretty bad, but kids will never see those ones I dont think.2 points

I'm sorry if I come off as being harsh, but thank you for at least owning it. I'm coming at it from the other side - if I were the one that screwed up my pricing, I'd like to have an opportunity to cancel and not be held to a 95% of sale. And, I wouldn't want to have to offer a future discount or anything along those lines. Sometimes, a mistake is just a mistake and we can all just move on. I'm shocked that they are honoring any of the orders, but, I guess their business model says it's the thing to do. My business model doesn't say that, though.2 points

I don't have any, but plan to get at least two. I figure 2 out of 3 kids will love Star Wars, so I'd like to be able to give each of my kids one a few years down the road without skimping on their college savings to get them.2 points

In one years time I wonder how many people will be saying "I had 7 years to buy that set and didn't pull the trigger, now I'm having to pay 1.5x MRSP..." or something similar. IMO it will be quite a few.2 points

The last time the DS "retired", remember it was announced online by a reputable source, I sold 10 at the risk of loss of future profit to generate cash for shopkins. One observation I made during that period when it was actually just "sold out" on LEGO Shop at Home prior to the red we are making more for you GPB was the amount of sellers, the amount of sets they had, and the slim margins they were willing to accept. Someone on here calculated a burn rate based on units sold per day and price and it was going to be a long time to hit $1,000. If the Tumbler goes this year I think it hits $500 before the DS hits $1000.2 points
