  1. Forgive me as I may over share, but I think it's about time. 37. Female. Boston metrowest suburbs. SAHM since 11/2009 when I had my fourth (and last) daughter and childcare would have been more than my income. I have loved Lego since my youth. Mostly Pirates, a good amount of City and a few Space and Castle. I remember saving up my allowance, planning my next buy, while waiting for Bradlees to have a 20% off sale. It got so bad that in 5th grade I started skipping lunch to pocket the cash. My favorite, and most expensive set was the Black Seas Barracuda. I built it at least three times, but never managed to use all the pieces as older Lego instructions were more like playing "spot the differences" and a step of adding 20 black plates to various locations often ended in less than 100% accuracy. I still have most of them (and every box), but lost my Caribbean Clipper and Rock Island Refuge in the shuffle. My dark ages went from about 1992 to 2010. How did I end up here? Once I got back into Lego, I got REALLY into Lego. I have brought my kids to nearly every monthly mini build for the past 4 years, and even worked at the Lego store for 3 days back in 2011, but I hate retail. I have roughly 100k pieces of Lego over 250+ sets. Close to a year ago, I was rejected by WPI's grad school program and I tried to drown my disappointment in Lego. I bought close to $5k worth to make up for lost time and buy all the sets I've been eyeing. Now I have "sobered up" and am holding about $2k to sell at maturity (or at least get back what I've spent). I really like the forum so far. I must confess that the root of my animosity towards QFLL's is that they are making enough money to support their addiction while I am shamefully siphoning from the family budget. Nice to meet you!

  2. Below is our Christmas setup for 2015. Someone else has to finish decorating the tree but I finished wiring the buildings tonight so this can be displayed. White lights run across a "train light bridge" and through all rooms and floors of the modular buildings and colored lights adorn the outside of the buildings. The holiday train is setup in the RC style and has engine headlights as well. The closeup photos were taken before the external lights were added. Enjoy!

  3. This is alarming, especially after the internal memo was leaked that they were sticking all the sets together with gum to ensure a safe arrival.

  6. I think somehow the price of the Gingerbread House is tied to this little puppy and chaos for what some described as a boring set with not much return value we could have passed on since it is now only 2 copies away from already being $195 in a matter of weeks http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00J4S9BEA just imagine if they call a movie episode vii and release it and people really start to get star wars fever GH for $250 AT AT for $250 !!!! lol

  7. FYI/YMMV: The 20% coupon stacks with the 10% TRUTH (obviously), however it did NOT stack with the $5 off $25 or the 15% coupon. This was a single item purchase over $100... Hopefully this info will help some of us to avoid harassing some of the seasonal TRU employees with our smartphones... Remember, be nice and smile

  9. These looks fairly easy to smoosh for. The queen, shark guy, knight and the winged creature will be the easiest to identify. I'm guessing once an accomplished smoosher works through the first 20 bags, they'll be smooshing at a rate of 5 seconds per bag and generating an hourly revenue rate of 1 thousand bucks per hour....or something like that. Right?

  11. Only just realised this after someone just bought a Scott Lang minifig off me for almost 28 bucks. I have a grand total of 3 of these, so I guess I will hold onto them for a while longer. I only opened one box and only built Antony (the flying ant) and the scaled up Lego pieces with the catapult; the minifigs were never assembled and zip locked for sale. I am a fan of the film, but I was surprised just how much I enjoyed the flying ant, Once it's built with its wings, it's a decent size and it looks great. A quick substitute of the pink 'ass' plate and replacing his saddle with a 2x2 black brick covered by a 2x3 navy blue tile and he looks like a nature series ( a la Birds style ) here's one of my home-made pics below.

  13. Last week I built the 10246 Detective's Office and although I appreciate it, I don't really love it. It's very small compared to other buildings and suffers the same problem that the Market Street and Pet Shop have: By splitting the building vertically, the interiors of the building are too small. My other big complaint is that the building is very shallow. The pool hall is very well done and the detective's part is nice but I would prefer a secretary's office across from it. The barber shop exists and I have seen enough 'S' letters in the modular buildings; they don't look good. This week (and weekend), I built the 10243 Parisian Restaurant. I waited until I built the 10246 because of all the great things I had heard about the Restaurant and I wanted this to be just an ok build because I love the Green Grocer... Unfortunately (for me), this set is a construction home run! The details in the dining area and the kitchen are phenomenal, especially the chain fencing. The external staircase really works well with the 2nd dining patio and the adjoining pullout bed is a clever design (needs a rug!). The art loft/studio is a nice addition and I really appreciated the way that the fireplace was designed. Overall, the Parisian Restaurant is a great size and used nice techniques overall, including for the roofing and the first floor pillars, using food accessories, and to create offsets with jumper tiles. Simply a fabulous build and my new favorite. ETA - My only complaint is that the balconies should be one stud deeper on the modular buildings.

  15. Am I the only one who, upon seeing the image of the figs, immediately starts to pick out which piece to smoosh for? net/skunk crutch shark head pig/pitchfork mace tutu spear mop trophy sloped legs/crown flag swords etc... This series looks very smooshable, but only a few figs interest me, with the shark guy probably being the most sought after.

  16. Joke, right? The laziest, richest dudes are absolutely NOT going to bricklink anything. Can you image a guy worth $10 million ordering 3000+ pieces, inventorying them, and then putting it together with printed off instructions? No, ain't happening.

  22. this is normal. it took a day for my black friday orders that finally shipped to catch up with the complete status. sometimes it helps to take the tracking number and track it outside the shop at home link. even now, walmart.com internal tracker says my creative towers won't get to the nearby store until next Tuesday. When I track the numbers using the fedex website directly, it says they will be there Friday. no. i have zero interceptb4wife skills, that's why the brush is so worn. that's ok - brushing builds character _AyyND_ on the plus side, the bowl is now so clean i'm using as a holiday chowder serving bowl at the town temperance society gala this coming weekend. splendid times.

  24. Hello LEGO fans.. It’s been a little over a year since Jeff and I started working on our first book, The Ultimate Guide to Collectible LEGO Sets: Identification and Price Guide. Well, after a year and a half, the book is now available at retail and is selling briskly. We would like to thank everyone who has bought a copy and hope you have enjoyed the book. Krause Publishing did a very nice job with our book in my opinion and is seeing strong sales, strong enough to ask us to do a second book. The new book will concentrate on the classic LEGO minifigure (...and maxifigure) and their values and unique features that make them valuable on LEGO secondary marketplaces. The book will be done in a similar fashion as our first book...basically including most major LEGO themes and the important minifigures from each theme. We are looking to discuss hundreds of special minifigures and will have a price guide that covers many of the major minifigures. But unlike our first book which gravitated towards more text and analysis than pictures, this book will make the photos of the minifigures the focal point of the book. This book will be a hardcover book, with higher quality images and page finish. While there will be plenty of data and analysis, the publisher wanted to put LEGO minifigures in “creative LEGO” and “real world” scenes or dioramas, besides having the traditional body shot of a minifigure found on Brickset or Bricklink. The creations of French photographer, Samsofy Pardugato, is an excellent example of mixing real world situations with LEGO minifigures and coming up with a dynamic photograph. Here are a few of his works and you can check out more example here… A person can also create a wonderful photograph with just LEGO sets, pieces and minifigures. Here are examples illustrating such techniques… As I stated above, there will be dozens and dozens of important, unique and valuable minifigures discussed in the book and not all will receive special treatment, but quite a few will and this is where Jeff and I need YOUR help. We need the help of those LEGO fans and collectors out there that have a creative flair for photography and we are willing to offer fame and fortune for it...LOL. Jeff and I are going to run LEGO photography “contest” for any person who wants to give it a shot. We are looking for people to come up with “creative LEGO” and “real world” scenes or dioramas for each one of the below themes: ADVENTURERS AGENTS/ULTRA AGENTS ATLANTIS/AQUA RAIDERS AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER BATMAN BIONICLE CASTLE CITY COLLECTIBLE MINIFIGURES(CMFs) COMIC CON, TOY FAIR & CONVENTION CREATOR DIMENSIONS DINO/JURASSIC WORLD DISNEY PRINCESSES ELVES EXO-FORCE FRIENDS HARRY POTTER HERO FACTORY IDEAS/CUUSOO INDIANA JONES LEGENDS OF CHIMA LORD OF THE RINGS/THE HOBBIT MONSTER FIGHTERS NINJAGO PIRATES/PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN POWER MINERS RACERS SCOOBY-DOO SEASONAL SPACE SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS STAR WARS SUPERHEROES TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES THE LEGO MOVIE THE LONE RANGER THE SIMPSONS TOY STORY MAXIFIGURES VINTAGE PRE 2000 MINIFIGURES MISCELLANEOUS MINIFIGURES and THEME COUNTERFEITS Each new chapter will have one of these creative LEGO minifigure action scenes or dioramas attached to it in some manner, whether it’s in the introduction or later in the chapter. Some major themes might have multiple “special” images. These creations should include one or more minifigures from that theme. That is really the only rule for these images. They have to have theme based minifigures in the photos. Besides the major creative layouts in each chapter, we will discuss dozens and dozens of other important minifigures that require high quality photos. Examples of these can be seen here: These can also be creative in nature, but they don’t have to be. Sometimes, a quality high resolution photo of a cool minifigure speaks volumes. Specific minifigures that will be discussed in the book will be released to those who are interested by contacting Jeff or I. I have a list for each theme and will be looking for quite a few to be honest. Feel free to share any ideas that you have. As for the contest itself, there will be various prizes. First off, each person who sends in a photograph that gets accepted by the publishers to use in the chapter introductions, which focus on real life images & LEGO dioramas, will get a “Limited Edition” book and a special call out in the book. Basically, there will be a small bio for each person who submits winning photos in the book. Each one of these “special” photos will have a title and breakdown of minifigures in the image, so we can make a proper “blurb or call out” on the page. The photographer’s name will also accompany these images. The TOP TEN images (in any form) that we receive will win a $100.00 LEGO or Amazon Gift Certificate each. Judging will be done by the publishers and one person can win multiple prizes for multiple submissions. There will be a BRICKPICKER GRAND PRIZE WINNER of a $500.00 LEGO or Amazon Gift Card. This award will be chosen by Jeff and I and will go to the person who go above and beyond everyone else. Maybe it’s a few exceptional photos. Maybe it’s about dozens of solid images that can be used in the minifigure write ups and analysis or any combination thereof. We will take a look at all submissions and all will be taken into consideration, tracked and figured into the final judging. Lastly, I just want to say that Jeff and I want to make this a special LEGO “community” book. We fought hard to make it a hardcover and upscale, visual book. Here is an opportunity to make some money and gain some recognition as well. Many of you are way more talented than Jeff and I and can create custom MOCs and images that we can only dream of making. Now is the time to show off your creativity and let the world see your creations. This contest will start immediately and run through the end of January at this point. Changes in the schedule will be dependent on response from LEGO fans, but we will need time to sort through the images and put them together for the book publishers. Winners will be announced in late Spring, after the publishers put out a rough draft of the book. The book will be available for purchase next Fall. Please, any questions or ideas, please ask and Jeff and I (and Krause Publishing) will try to answer them. Good luck and happy photographing... ----------------------------------------------- PHOTOGRAPHY SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Camera used MUST be MINIMUM of 5-8 megapixels. 26. Also they had to change the instructions because pieces were setup wrong, queen goes on her own color. Neither of these required a change in elements like Walle, but the set was a design disaster IMO. The chess pieces are supposed to fit inside the base so it can be a carrying case to make the set storable/mobile but they don't and you have to do a partial disassemble for this feature to work. It is an easy mod to fix just add a row of 1x4s and 1x6s but lego didn't fix that so I think they just gave up on the set. And that's why I like it.

  41. Let's talk about this theme, because I think you are 100% correct about it being a "theme." The set that I think is flying way under the radar right now is the Fairground Mixer. By itself, there is pretty much nothing to get excited about - it looks like a glorified City set that should be $89.99 at TRU and garner very little attention even at that price. But what it actually represents is the "missing link" to the whole Summer Carnival theme in about 5 years. Nobody is buying it, nobody is hoarding it, and it might simply vanish in the middle of the night in a poof of smoke. Then, as TLG continues to develop this theme and more and more collectors need to have the entire collection, it becomes the sought after piece that nobody has. Optimistic? Maybe. But plausible? Absolutely.

  42. These lists no matter how loosely translated have been considerably accurate in general looking back at past series but of course a few will change a bit term wise when closer to release. "Steering wheel warrior" sounds hilariously awesome but the "winged warrior" sounds somewhat more logical and may fit within the upcoming Nexo Knights theme. Harpy might have made more sense if mythological unless they are going for a Flash Gordon approach which I see Locutus pointed out. Haha. Only with The Chronicles of Narnia have I heard a Satyr called a Faun except in the case about the female equivalent of a Satyr. Shark Costume Guy looks great and exactly as I imagined, Jewel Thief to me somehow sounds like it will be a woman, everyone knows how much I love my robots so that's a given for me, we already had an Evil Knight with Series 7 therefore this Scary Knight must be different in some way, Astronaut and Kendo Warrior have been done before but I missed Series 1 in the first place as I imagine many others did as well so this will be nice. Still the best Jaws parody skit in the history of ever.
