I will offer this tidbit of wisdom. I returned 4 town halls to target due to some box damage. Seals were all intact. It retired a little while after this and would not matter now. So a completely destroyed box is one thing, minor damage does not matter.6 points

This could go in the complaint thread too. When you are forced to raise the prices on your items just because you want to have a peaceful weekend with the family. I'm going out of town for a family Thanksgiving and today has been a little hectic with fulfilling orders. Not a day off at all. Still churning stuff out into the evening. This gig is a blessing and a curse.5 points

Nice score! Can I borrow your kids next time I go to the LEGO store? I got the evil eye last time I bought two Orthancs and two Red Fives when my son was with me. The other day I took both kids with me. Tried to buy $300 worth of stuff and asked for more than one Train. No go. I put back the Ferris Wheel out of spite.5 points

The ban is a very interesting topic. I've said before, and I'll say again, that Lego wants its products to increase in value after they retire. TLG wants consumers standing there in the store holding that $200 set and thinking "I know it's expensive but these things become collector's items and that justifies the price. So I'm going to buy it." So to some extent, Lego requires a post-retirement secondary market (with much higher prices) to legitimize its MSRP prices and to augment the brand. This drives up sales and drives up profits. TLG wants this - but they want it after they decide to stop producing a specific item. What TLG doesn't want is people "scalping" their products - the QFLL in particular. Lego doesn't want you making a $20 profit off the set that you don't want to open and play with but somebody else does, and, unfortunately that "someone else" wasn't quick enough or informed enough to get it for himself, but you were. TLG doesn't want resellers stealing its profits and frustrating its "playing customers" because it can't keep up with all the demand and it can't keep 100 copies of each and every set on each and every shelf in each and every town on the planet. That's my two cents anyway. TLG wants to protect the people who play with their toys, but they also secretly love the massive price jumps when they retire a product - almost as much as we do.5 points

The thing to remember is to make sure that you're buying things that your family will definitely use. I have the habit of buying games and movies just for the sake of getting a good deal. If you don't get joy out of what you're buying, it's not worth any price that you pay for it. Anyways, judging by the prices that you paid, you're a savvy shopper. Nice job.4 points

last 2 xmas trains, $50 something on Amazon, pocketed $43 I think after fees, shipping. Basically 43% off my $100 orders on Shop @ Home4 points

From my experience if you make a number of orders quickly on the one account then that account will get flagged by a bot for manual review. If an order is over a certain dollar threshold it will also be flagged for manual review. During the manual review they will cross check all of your identifying info to link any other accounts you may have made and take a look at your entire history from the very first order you ever made until present. They will then make a purely arbitrary decision on whether to ban or not. If your orders are not going to "in warehouse" within 30 mins or so then you are getting a manual review. I don't believe they employ anyone to preemptively discover sellers. It is not rocket science to link all of your accounts and order history once a bot flags for manual review. If you must purchase in volume from LEGO Shop at Home then spread it over many clean and completely unassociated accounts. IME it is not worth it to invest your time ordering this way unless it is for a true exclusive like 10241 and even then it is a very marginal decision. Keep LEGO Shop at Home for your personal stash and keep the volume for the other retailers is my advice.4 points

Two sea cows from target deal showed up. Perfect shape in a big box, plenty of air pillows, which will be recycled into my outgoing sales. If they all show up this way I will be a happy exclusives camper.3 points

Yep, this one has been my focus over the last month. This and the sea cow. I've managed to acquire 10 more after it went OOS at lego.com. Managed to buy 2 at amazon before they went, then another few at walmart before they were tossed, and i've acquired 6 from TRU both online, and at in stores. This set was the best of the sets to get over the last month, and is looking more and more golden, IMO. I'm sitting on a nice stack. I'm in this one for the long long term..3 points

Target exclusives all arrived in separate boxes here. All in nice shape. Very pleased. Can always use more boxes too.3 points

OK, I feel like a total n00b posting in this thread, but I sold my first set! Actually, second, 7672 Rogue Shadow was the first in 2011 but that was more spontaneous, I found two on clearance 25% off 2 years after retirement and sold one, CL style, the following day for almost double RRP. But I considered it a lucky one off, little did I know about the business or Brickpicker back in the day. But now, something as planned investment: 75021 Republic Gunship for 130€ excl. shipping. Buy-in was 69€.3 points

I went to the Lego B&M store to buy AT-AT or pirates Chess but both were sold out, but I found one last Red 5 which was inside the counter of the cashier area. I asked if they were holding it for someone but they said no and that it was their last one. I bought it and they gave me two Gingerbread houses because I brought my two kids with me and because the total was over $200.3 points

I loaded up on this set. My last couple orders from amazon came in damaged a bit, as long as Smaug is on the package it will sell extremely well. (Not selling though will trade)2 points

It was really just a friendly jab at TabbyBoy but I think it proves a point that there are dozens if not hundreds of choices of beautiful buildings for LEGO to turn into beautiful sets. Whether or not something is truly "iconic" from a tourism perspective can also be debated ... I've never been to the Lincoln Memorial or the Seattle needle thingy (and know plenty of people who haven't either), but they got turned into sets. So many people visit so many beautiful buildings that I would wager that simply turning on of them into a LEGO set will make it iconic. And I know I'm partial, but you can't tell me that the Canadian Parliament building isn't in the category of beautiful buildings and wouldn't translate into a great LEGO set.2 points

Two things I've come recently are, my 3 year old discovering big boy lego on his own, and tickling him until he farts. Man that cracks me up!2 points

If you already know your partner's response to the spending, just take a photo of the item you planned to get him. Wrap it in a box if you like for comedic value. Then when he opens it and says 'wtf is this?' you already have the response ready. "You'd have told me not to get it for you to pay for all the rest, so I didn't, and paid for all the rest!". He'll understand, and then promptly set up the PS4 to play some games with the kids.... cause I mean really.... PS4 for the win.1 point

Went on a 500 mile road trip to visit family, so used the opportunity to pick up 4 relatively pristine Lonely Mountains at various TRU locations that still had them.1 point

That might be a good blog, "Reseller 101", but some ethics boundaries might be touched on there as well. There's lots of new folks who could benefit from it, to our benefit or dismay.1 point

There were reports of many Target orders delivered with incorrect quantities a few months ago. My guess is this is an attempt to systematically prevent that.1 point

I have zero of these and I just don't feel like I am missing anything. There has never been a time one of these sets were on sale that made me feel like I needed to pull the trigger. If you compare this to the 6211 set I just have a feeling this one will always pale in comparison. I just have not seen a sale on these that made me feel like it was a good enough deal to pull the trigger and when it was close I always picked the AT-AT.1 point
