IMO it was the fun AND sophistication that appealed to the girls. In my mind Jungle and Popstar was a dumbing down and regression of the theme. I think they should have built on what they had and it would have also been a great opportunity for some nice large detailed sets that would most likely never be added to the modular line (library, museum, art gallery, hospital etc). Just my opinion.

When you put your personality out there on YouTube for all to see, you lose the ability to control who says what about you and your antics. Similar here. I'm growing my collection / inventory by a fixed amount each month, plus reinvesting sales revenues. I have a short list of specific sets I'm buying currently and the total number I want of each; once I'm stocked up I move to the next one(s) on the list. I've missed out on a couple of deals / steals because of it, but I'd rather stick to a plan and tweak it so it's successful than be impulsive. Time will tell if I'm making good picks, but at least I can have the confidence I'm following a plan that can be improved instead of just chasing what's shiny. I would also recommend having cash on hand for days like yesterday. You never know when days like that will come, sometimes we only get one or two of those opportunities per year. True. But at the same time, those days do come. If you missed out this time, it will happen again. I know I would feel the same whether I bought big yesterday or had already used my budget for the month prior to yesterday. I'd feel the same if I blew through my budget yesterday and didn't have anything left over for this weekend. The point I'm trying to make for anyone that missed out yesterday is that other opportunities will arise, so if you didn't have the ability to participate yesterday you'll get another chance some other time.

Maybe he should try Target next time with a Red Card. Watch the other vids of his buys. He's not that thrifty. Speed Champions is a TRU exclusive so its TRU or shop at home. Personally, I'd rather buy them at the lego store or online and get some promos and VIP. I certainly wouldn't make a video of it and think was cool enough to put on the web.

I think TLG strayed too far from what made the Friends line a success. I think they should have stayed with what worked and also produced some larger more detailed sets in that theme. Jungle made no sense to me and Pop Star fantasies were over 5 years ago. Elves is not selling well and the Princess line is a whole different demographic. I think they tanked Friends all on their own with some poor decisions.

Yep, a flexible cash reserve is something I need to build up so I can take advantage of good opportunities -- I'm looking at these LEGO Shop at Home Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals and weighing whether I want to deviate or put in a little extra this month. I think I've also rationalized the approach I'm taking as a good fit for where I am in my Lego investor journey. I've just started and am very much playing the role of QFLL right now to keep up cashflow and accelerate growth. Buying plan currently is split about 80/20 between quick flip inventory and long term growth holdings. I'm potentially taking smaller returns as QFLL, but the benefits of faster inventory turnover (less storage!), better cashflow, and the emotional relief of making even small amounts of money instead of having boxes and bags sitting on a shelf waiting for someday are worth it to me.

It was really just a friendly jab at TabbyBoy but I think it proves a point that there are dozens if not hundreds of choices of beautiful buildings for LEGO to turn into beautiful sets. Whether or not something is truly "iconic" from a tourism perspective can also be debated ... I've never been to the Lincoln Memorial or the Seattle needle thingy (and know plenty of people who haven't either), but they got turned into sets. So many people visit so many beautiful buildings that I would wager that simply turning on of them into a LEGO set will make it iconic. And I know I'm partial, but you can't tell me that the Canadian Parliament building isn't in the category of beautiful buildings and wouldn't translate into a great LEGO set.

Maybe the success of the iconic Tower Bridge plays a role in making another iconic British landmark a set. Personally, Big Ben translates well into LEGO bricks and I think it would be a huge winner. HUUUUUGE!

London is ranked number one top city for tourism and spending 5 times out of the last seven years (link) Saying that Germany has a bigger market than the UK based on population(?) doesn't give a true indication of what is popular, sells or being most iconic. While I agree that there are many world landmarks that would make great Architecture\Expert Creator sets disregarding Big Ben because it doesn't appeal to you doesn't necessarily reflect on public perception. Big Ben 21013 has been in production for 3.5 years now which would suggest that it moves numbers, same can be said for 21006 White House which has been going for close to 5 years. Parliament buildings like these are iconic the world over and make logical sense for Lego sets. "Big ben is just simple tower with clocks" Simple isn't a word I would use to explain the intricacies and detail of the Houses of Parliament

I actually saw 4 Raptor Escapes at the LEGO Store the other day. I left them alone, since the day before I picked up 10 more RE at Wal-Marts on my way to Columbus.
